A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Tough Game

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 16, 2011

Weird, last night’s epic fail is bothering me more this morning than it did last night. It’s usually the reverse. All I’ve got in me is a “knowing *dude* nod”. But it’s not vertical, it’s horizontal. You want a few heaping servings of bad luck? Not only does our best hitter foul a ball off his foot but he hits a grounder to third that he has to run out as hard as he can! I’m sure the foot felt great after that…..

And now, with great irony, we turn to Dirrrrty to right this wayward ship. Only because I feel certain that he will fail today do I have hope that he will pitch masterfully. It’s upside-down day. And faced with nothing but more injuries, players healing slowly and wins being  ripped away from us, there’s nothing else that can possibly happen except the impossible. I need my knowing dude nod to get vertical again…….

I think we will likely lose this game. But I could care less, it’s been unbelievably entertaining and it showed these guys that they can do whatever they fucking want to do if they stick together. Fuck AZ and their win tonight. We are the World Champions until someone else wins it. And tonight, beaten and battered, we are playing like WORLD CHAMPIONS……..

I totally agree. Atlanta has a home advantage here and all that, but we walk out of this game with a sense of victory — not the same as a W, but we showed something.

With this valiant loss, and the Dbacks win over Halladay, Giants are on the ropes.
They have to gather, and get at least one of the next 2, then limp into Houston and win that series. Do that, and they live to go to the corner to come out for the next round….

    • Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis said, on August 16, 2011 at 7:25 pm

  27. big flavor's avatar big flavor said, on August 16, 2011 at 7:24 pm

Bip: “the Giants have to re-group quickly or this race is over”— Another idiot. They RE-GROUPED tonight you stupid fuck. I don’t even give a shit if we lose the next 2 as long as we sweep Houston. Look, we play 6 more against the Doosh-backs and every other single game we play are against teams with losing records. And yet the COmcast fuckheads completely missed the spirit of this game and say we’re on the ropes, in mid August with shit teams to play the rest of the way. Unreal……..

  28. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on August 16, 2011 at 7:26 pm

They ARE on the ropes. That doesn’t diminish the greatness of this loss.
They can pull it back together, because of the pitching
But, with all these injuries, it doesn’t look too good…

  29. stixwiz's avatar stixwiz said, on August 16, 2011 at 7:29 pm

Snakes may be getting pretty cocky now. Could they be coming into their own or are they peaking too early? So Conrad gets his revenge and the Devil wears Prado. Okay, but this is still August. Helluva lot of heart on this team. One run given up over 9 by the bullpen. What a performance. Who knows what may have happened had the team been at full strength. I’m sure we’ll all be watching to see what gives with the injury list. For a squad with one leg hobbled and an arm tied behind their back, this bunch put up one helluva fight. This could fire up Matt and Timmy. Big ol Southern boy like our Horse would like nothing better than to put down Jair Jurrgens.

  30. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis said, on August 16, 2011 at 7:32 pm

  32. twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 said, on August 16, 2011 at 7:37 pm

There’s a long way to go and 6 with the DBacks. “They can pull it back together, because of the pitching” And defense, and the heart of all.

    1. Brave’s announcer called Cody’s home run trot the “off to see the wizard routine.” Hadn’t heard that one before. Outstanding.

    2. If someone had to come through against us, I was glad to see it was Conrad. Went to high school right around the corner from my house and I didn’t even know if he was still in the league after that debacle in the playoffs last year.

    3. Helluva gutsy performance. We’ve got big balls–they’re such big balls and they’re dirty big balls!

    • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on August 16, 2011 at 7:50 pm

I’m not talkin’ heart, BF. They showed that tonite.
But, all these injuries are for real, they have real consequences.
Giants had trouble scoring when everybody was healthy, I don’t know how they can score with half the team DL’d or limping…

  36. wilcojoe's avatar wilcojoe said, on August 16, 2011 at 7:46 pm

  37. PawlieKokonuts's avatar PawlieKokonuts said, on August 16, 2011 at 7:46 pm

Twitterverse doesn’t get it either. I made my point on Twitter, as I did here. One guy saying “just not our year.” Grow up. I know the feeling (I was guilty of it last year), but c’mon, did you watch the game? Did you really watch it? We may indeed end up out of it, but you just can’t make that call yet. Why would you? And if you’ve heard Bochy, he will not tolerate even a hint of a whisper of that attitude. So, win or lose, I am 100% these guys will play hard until the last day.

  38. big flavor's avatar big flavor said, on August 16, 2011 at 7:47 pm

and while we are going with this “beaten and battered” theme, check this: Atlanta is one of the best home teams in the NL. Last night we were a strike away from beating them and tonight we hung with them like men only to lose late like many teams do when you go extra innings on the road. Come on, with our remaining schedule and the spirit of this team (that they are absolutely feeding on despite the cluelessness of Papa and Bip Idiot) it’s a real stretch to say we are on the ropes right now……..

they’re saying Dirty on crutches; and Kepp and Nate day to day. Is it Nate’s hip? Oh well, builds character. Bochy will tolerate no whining, and maybe even some dark humor will be thrown in.

And the Phils will take the next 2.

  40. macdog's avatar macdog said, on August 16, 2011 at 7:49 pm

Those Comcast guys aren’t the only media dolts to leave the Giants for dead. Reading the game stories today from Monday’s loss, it sounded like Bochy was asked something along the lines of, Is this simply not the Giants’ year? (From Baggs’ story.) Like the Giants are supposed to just throw in the towel in mid-August and down only 2 1/2 games (now 3 1/2). They’re all a bunch of friggin’ idiots.

    • PawlieKokonuts's avatar PawlieKokonuts said, on August 16, 2011 at 7:52 pm

right, and as I said, Bochy — and the players — just don’t approach it that way. They will keep their swagger until the last scintilla [is that the right word] of a shred of hope and possibility

    • big flavor's avatar big flavor said, on August 16, 2011 at 7:54 pm

This is pissing me off. Some douche named Will (sfgigante will, or something like that) @Twitter, whines, “some rookie pitcher we get only one hit off.” Maybe this goes on at the Splash. I never read it. But how narrow a view. Um, the ONE hit? Did you see it? It tied the game. Took out the rook. The guy woulda shut down the Phils or Bosox or Yanks tonight. He was terrific. But, what if we had 12 hits and no runs off him?? How silly a view. You simply CANNOT ignore how tough we played. I am sure the Braves fans and players got it.

BTW, Dirty saying now he might be able to make next start, so we’ll see. And Kepp and Nate were sort of almost quasi ready to PH.

Forgotten: gutsy of Pablo to pay like he did on a very sore foot; you can see it.

As Craig said, it was a game that they were totally expected to lose, even with, or maybe especially with, the kid pitcher going against them. Somehow, Dirty going down just seemed part of the plot. Perhaps the only surprising thing was that they didn’t run out of players and end up with Don Nelson managing.
All of the rot on the TV, I absolutely cannot believe that everyone missed it. This loss was not crushing or fatal- it was perhaps the game that will reverse their fortunes…
If Bruce can round up 9 guys for tomorrow, that is..
