A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Getting Shut Out Again and I Could Care Less

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 19, 2011

That one was fairly easy to swallow. The 4th game of a hot ass week in Atlanta–I think our bats were a little flat. Same thing happened last year when Jaime Garcia went through our line up in like 82 pitches (or whatever it was)….

And now, we reach a door that opens to a Nirvana of sorts. The only team we face with a winning record the rest of the way is Arizona. And being only 2.5 back of them, I believe us to be be basically in control of our destiny no matter what the doosh-backs do. In fact, after this 3 game diddy with Houston we start a 12 game home stretch against crap teams….

I’m going to enjoy the furor over this series with the Astros. We are a pretty tired and beat up team right now. Not playing well in Houston won’t surprise me. Then we come home and find the ledge pretty empty. We look around and say “Hmmmm, that’s odd, the ledge should be full right now.” Then we find out it’s because most of you jumped. We’ll give them a few knowing dude nods to honor their short life span as fans of this team and maybe send down a cleaning crew to wipe your asses up. And then we’ll head back inside, grab a beer, turn on the tv, and watch the Giants reel off a 9-3 homestand, cruising past the D-backs by the early part of September….

Romo is coming back. Looks like Beltran is even coming back next week. We’ll probably miss Bee-Wheezy for this series in Houston. But August 23rd is the date to circle. That is the date that we shed all the weight and the sludge we’ve been carrying around the last 3 weeks. You guys can all jump after the ‘Stros series if you want. But you might want to check the schedule before you do. Things are looking up, not down. Violent knowing dude head nod as I type these last words. My head’s about to snap clean off at my neck. Don’t say I didn’t warn you……..

    Atlanta dispatched the D-Backs.

Switched over to Az-Atl to cheer myself up and watch Kimbrel get the final outs, which he did, though not without a little drama.

Upton had a chance in the ninth, but couldn’t get it done.

AZ lost, yummy. Let’s lose 15-0. it’ll lower the prices on the best seats for the Aug 23rd game. Maybe I pick up one of them 5-bucker seats behind home plate that Wilco *enjoyed* tonight…..

Someone was directed to the Flap today because they typed in “why does rodney dangerfield say hey sabu.”

That’s hilarious. “Can you make a bullshot? Can you make a shoe smell?”

That exchange doesn’t get as much pub as many others in that fine film, but it is one of my personal favorites.

Right now, the Giants are mind numbingly bad.
Off to a nice Napa cab, and forget this abomination…

Well, Huff strikes out on a ball in the dirt and just walks to the dugout…Tejada screams about a bad check swing call . I’d sit Huff tomorrow regardless of the match up.

Listeing to Papa on the postgame- how do yoiu fucking bitch about a team that’s so shorthanded? It’s flat motherfucking ignorant…

I’m thinking that all Flappers should use gay ass smiley face adjectives ala’ Flav’s “yummy” until such time we win a game.

    Suggested adjectives besides yummy:

    Delicious
    Peachy
    Groovy
    Delightful
and of course (drum roll please) . . . In my best Billy Crystal voice, “Fabulous!”

Did Crystal use “marvelous” too? It actually sounds better than “fabulous.” LQTM.

I seem to recall it, but maybe it was Martin Short or ?

Totally disgusting performance. DeRosa’s error in the sixth was followed by Vogelsong hitting the next batter. Then the floodgates opened up. Though our ten game winner regained his composure in the 7th and 8th, i think the general fraying of the team got to him there in the 6th.

Shorthanded or not, this one’s at least in part on Bochy for running out worse than useless Rowand and sitting Belt. Brandon has a future with this team and he demonstrated in Florida what he can do. At least he will draw a walk or two most games. If he played regularly like Atlanta played Freddy Freeman after a very rough early spring (worse than Belt’s, particularly in OBP) instead of the constant yo-yo action from BigBrain; chances are at least fair that he would start coming into his own.

Take a look at those Houston youngsters with names like Bogus evitch and something between corporate and corpulence. Astros gave up their two best young hitters and gave these kids a chance ~ and they are PRODUCING. The one big knock on Bochy is that he loves his vets overmuch. Some feel the same is true with Sabean. Keep Rowand around for the rest of the season as a pinch hitter ONLY. Dump one of Tejada/Cabrera and bring up Crawford. A bit of steady playing time and the feeling that the manager may care a bit about your career can do wonders for young players.

Giants can still win the division. Strictly because of the pitching. But tonight’s veteran attack was in one simple word: Horseshit.

      It’s Bochy’s greatest managing job…

Stix, if the Giants had won, the argument could have been made the other way. Remember, we have the advantage of siting in our “arm chairs” and of course, hind sight . . . smiles. I’m not saying that you are wrong, but Bochy has been doing this a lot longer than all of us. He’s also played the game at all levels. Consequently, his desire to play the veterans isn’t something he pulled out of his ass, but is based upon his experience and probably most important of all, he is right there and knows exactly what is going on with each of his players, e.g., strengths, weaknesses, aches and pains, etc. He also has coaches and scouts that provide him information.

Me? I’m a fan and think I know all about baseball too. Sometimes better than Bochy. HAHAHA. Then I listen to you, Twin, Flav, Loo, Snarrk, Chuck, and Willied – guys who really FOLLOW THE GAME and then I realize I know enough to not look stupid (at least most of the time). In short, Bochy probably has forgotten more baseball than I will ever know.

Blade: If you think i was blowing off at Bochy take a wee stroll through the comments on Baggs’ site.

Last time i checked it out, Brandon Belt was rated the best 1B prospect in baseball. Last time i looked, Aaron Rowand has been zero for damned near everything lately. Frankly i don’t give a royal rat’s raunchy rump about right-left matchups when it comes to playing a five-tool rookie versus a veteran who still may have some value as a pinch hitter, as he has at least done that well this year. Currently, that’s Rowand’s level.

Huff’s lack of a lead from second tonight with two outs and then getting cut down at the plate was another reason Belt should have been in the game. Seems like ol’ Aubrey may have spent too much time celebrating the Ring and the Thong and the Contract last winter to keep in shape. In my book ~ and i sure the hell lay no claim to being a Manager, just an observer of the game since ’54~ Belt starts every day, two days of the week at 1B (Ol’ Huff n Puff could use the rest) and five in the outfield.

Bochy is probably best in baseball at managing a bullpen. When it comes to position players he notoriously prefers veterans to youngsters, even if the kids happen to be more talented. If Brucie had showed half the patience with Belt and Crawford as he has with his doddering greybeards i’d be looking at this situation from a whole nother perspective.

Again, if anyone thinks i’m outta order in my comments vs Bochy, check out the screamers on Baggs’ blog, or, shudder, the droolers on the Splash. Haven’t even been there in months but i can imagine what its like there tonight and will be again tomorrow. Hereabouts we’re a bit more unflappable than those chunks of the fan base. Nevertheless, sometimes we gotta call it as we see it. If the Giants don’t take the next two against the worst team in baseball there will be a lot of negative vibe by the fans when the team comes home. Bochy may get booed. More than once. Those guys on the Baggs blog are livid. They may be typical.

      • twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 said, on August 19, 2011 at 10:24 pm

That you’re not as out of order as the meth heads on Baggs’ blog is hardly a commendation. Bochy’s masterful job plugging guys in and out of the LU is universally praised as a huge reason they won last year, not just his pen management. He hasn’t lost that, he just has fewer healthy and/or performing players to plug in. Belt? To progress young guys don’t just need to play hell or high water. They need to learn the right way. With each incarnation, Belt has taken the same ultimately unsuccesful course- he starts looking for walks and, as Henry put it, “spitting” on pitches he should drive. It’s not about being better than Rowand or Huff- it’s about being the best *he* can be. He also needs to lose the hang dog demeanor when he makes out.I imagine he’ll be in the LU the next couple days and he’d better make hay- right now, he’d be on the pine with Gamer when Beltran is back

Parking at a meter a block from Minute Maid: $1.50
Club Level seat behind home plate: $5
Five $9 Jack and Sodas to watch the World Champs lose to a 100 loss team, yet not lose ground: Priceless

I was pleasantly surprised by how many Giants fans were at the game…I sat next to a retired couple from Clayton that had just finished a road trip following the Giants from Miami, Atlanta, and now Houston…For the last several years, they have picked a Giants road trip to follow the team and see the various stadiums…They said the amount of Giants fans at each stadium this year, was about ten times that of any other season…The Brian Wilson beards, Panda hats, and Lincecum jerseys filled the stadium…I have been going to Giants games in Houston for the last ten years, and I had never seen anything like it…The Giants may not get the attention of the national media, but baseball fans everywhere have embraced this team.

    • twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 said, on August 19, 2011 at 9:21 pm

Sounds like you had a nice time….there’s aways something about even a bad game that makes it enjoyable..like five Jack and Sodas

Most of his bashers do think they’re smarter than Bonehead. There is a lack of transparency from Bochy and in this case it’s a good thing. What goes on the clubhouse stays there. Anyway I trust Bochy more than I trust his detractors..

  15. blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on August 19, 2011 at 9:55 pm

Stix – No, I don’t think you are “blowing off” Bochy at all. You always provide a well-thought out position, without getting personal at someone who provides an alternative view. Remember, I didn’t say you were wrong. More importantly, I can’t prove that you are wrong because they did lose . . . However, you can’t necessarily prove I’m wrong in my position either. Why is that? Simply because a baseball season is in many ways a war with many battles (162 games) and similar to a war, isn’t decided by one battle (or game as the case this evening). Perhaps, at the end of the season, we all will have more clarity why we won the division . . . or, lost the division.

Anyway, don’t ever think I’m not appreciative of what you post.

    • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on August 19, 2011 at 9:59 pm

Wilcojoe, the same thing happens at Coors Field. I’m amazed by how many Giants fans show up when they play the Rockies here. Actually, I’m more tripped when the Rockies play the Cubs or Red Sox . . . More than half the stadium has the other teams fans here. It really makes the Rockies fans look weak and band waggonish (Is that a word? Ha.).

Whoops, I meant to place that post up where Wilcojoe posted . . . and I haven’t even had anything stronger than water this evening.
