8 Straight and One Day at a Time……..
Quite a game delivered by our ticketless beauty yesterday. During the 4th inning, most of the patrons at First and Main were slapping themselves on the forehead and their buddies on the back as the Giants smacked bomb after bomb out of Coors Field. I must have heard “Where has this been all year?” about 15 times. I just smiled and quietly toasted each bomb to her royal highness…….
I’m not thinking for a second about how many games back we are or how many are left. The goal should just be to make up a game on at least one the teams in from of us (Braves, St Louis and D-backs) every single day. We’ve been doing that for over a week now. If we keep winning and make up a game a day on one or more of them, this will all take care of itself……..
Perfect time for a day off. After 4 games in Colorado the bullpen could use the rest. Actually, we didn’t get too chewed up but a day to re-charge is welcomed. And what a fantastic surprise to see Bee-Wheezy out there. Now he doesn’t have to wait out all Winter and into ST to see how that arm feels. I’m not certain about this, but I don’t think the bullpen blew even a single save in his absence. I’m sure someone will correct me if I’m wrong……..
She’ll spend the day dancing barefoot in a meadow dreaming up new ways to make us smile…….
Flap Fantasy League Standings
(extending my lead, Blade wills his way into 3rd place and then there is….the rest)

I think Casilla blew one from my fantasy memory…I fear the phillies are going to screw us and lay down against the Braves to avoid us…
I think we need to get to a game out by Sunday, hopefully both in the wild card and the west…
yeah, I wondered about the Fillies laying down in the final week, too. We can only hope that they want to get us in to exact revenge. Either that or they keep us out by laying down like pussies. We’ll see……
I honestly see no laying down by the Phrillies. not in their nature, or their city’s ways. They’ve lost too much in their history (10,000+ games, I believe), so if nothing else this particular team wants to set a franchise record for wins. At one point they were 42 over .500 for the first time ever, not sure where now. Plus, Charlie Manuel does not want to see his guys develop losing ways. PLUS, no one wants to lose to the Braves.
Go, Giants. Yes, I concur: if we win one game at a time, everything else will take care of itself favorably. I’m not delusional, though; still a tough road.
Excellent take
Absolutely one game at a time. Everyone keeps talking (of course) about the 3 games in Phoenix, but these next few against the Dogs at home are just as important, one at a time. We all know how well Kershaw and sometimes others as well throw against the Giants. If the bats bring their new-found mojo home, then it will be boding well.
A team isn’t necessarilly “laying down” if they give a banged up player a day off or two, pull a pitcher after 5 or 6, etc. Of course, the Phls are good enopugh to win games like that anyway. One thing for sure- Unca Goober isn’t going to be worried about the “integrity” of the pennant race, nor should he be.He’ll do what he thinks is best for his team.
Should be fun scoreboard watching tonight. Let’s go . . . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWszM3-C4gM&feature=related
Criminy, since Pittsburgh was in 1st place July 19th at 51-44, they’ve gone into a tailspin of epic proportions.
17-41? Holy shit. They were the darlings of baseball for a while there.
Holy BLEEP!
I only mention that because Pitts is in AZ for a 3 game series. Coming off a 15-1 loss (and losing 3 of 4) at the hands of the Dogs . . .
They’d better find some magic quick.
Relax, Chuck. The SDG will handle it…
Did you send her pic to the Pirates dugout?
Fed Ex overnight?
Hey I asked this a couple of weeks ao, but forgot to check the replies. If we can finish tied with the Braves for the wild card do we get a one-game playoff or do we get screwed by comparing head to head matchup between the Giants and Braves? I think we went 1-6 against them this year…
OK, that was easy to find…automatic one-game, Braves get home field…
Man-child Stanton with 2 bombs already. Florida up 2-0 on braves. “pick up a game a day on somebody” and we are all good
Back when there were 16 games to go and folks here were saying we could be ok if the team goes 14-2 (or even they might need to win out), it was one thing to have the hope that a dear fan always has but so tempered by the somewhat grim reality of the situation; it’s been quite another to see them reel off 8 straight wins to confirm that a dear fan’s hope can be further stoked and rewarded. The AZ series obviously is key, but this set against LA is, I think, more key, so I hope while we’re all scoreboard watching, the players are focused on every pitch and every play, forget about the scoreboard. If the bats go silent again, it all could be over before the team even goes to Phoenix. Take 2 of 3 against LA or, better yet, sweep, and we’ve got a photo finish. Great stuff.
Florida’s bullpen sucks…….
actually, that was mostly on Nolasco. 3 innings left. Stanton could hit 2 more HR’s in that time frame……
What kind of a charmed life is John Lackey living? He’s getting lit up again tonight but will probably still get the win since the Red Sox are leading 11-6. He still isn’t through the 5th though so maybe he gets pulled. If he DOES win he’ll move to 13-12 on the year. Lackey has a disgusting WHIP of 1.62 and a hilarious ERA of 6.37. And yet he might have the exact same record as Tim Lincecum if he manages to wobble through the 5th inning tonight. *Wins* are the most overrated stat in all of baseball………
Red Sox may lose that game yet, now 11-8.
Maybe I’m just being ignorant here and feel free to call me out on this. But I don’t understand how a state supported institution like the University of Oklahoma can hand out a 35 million dollar/7 year deal to Coach Stoops. I understand they have almost no academic admission requirements and maybe all they care about are the number of wins their football program hauls in every year. But with players making nothing and the financial aid structure bursting at the seams for students who have to pay for their education entirely on their own, I just don’t understand how Stoops hauls in another 30+ million dollar deal and their isn’t an outcry of outrage…….
There won’t be a big outcry in Oklahoma because their beloved Sooners are their whole identity to the rest of the nation. The outcry will need to come from outside the state. Meanwhile, Oklahoma continues to be one of the most poverty-stricken states in the U.S.
Don’t coaches get paid from budgets separate from the academic? That’s how Kentucky pays its Basketball coach.
Flav, I agree with you. These salaries for coaches are unbelievable and a make a mockery of the institutions and university systems. Then again, I don’t follow college sports.
Well, if it has to be AZ we gain on tonight, if that’s the only one, then so be it.
I DON’T BELIEVE WHAT I JUST SAW!!!!!!!!!!!!!
help me….what happened??? I saw Marlins somehow won stop urgent stop
tell me stop bulletin stop urgent stop exclamation point
Kimbrel krashed 2 days in a row???
2 out nobody on…..Chipper loses a chopper in the lights (really!), and Infante homers off Kimbrel…
destiny . . . cheers in STL and SFO
Unbelievable finish. With two-outs in the bottom of the ninth, Chipper lost a high bouncing grounder in the stadium lights. Then the next batter hit a walk-off two-run homer.
Ah, Omar Infante homers! Wasn’t he a Brave at one time?
I went to dinner and saw we were losing both those games late (Cards/Braves) and come back to see we WON the Braves game? Insane. She frolicked in the meadow all afternoon and decided this was the way to put a smile on my face. Today. We’ll see what she has in store for tomorrow…….
SDG may not be done with her beneficence today.
Just watched the highlight at mlb.com— what an awesome thing to be able to access. I swear to God, I don’t know how we lived on boxscores alone pre-internet…..
There might have been 12 people ANYWHERE in left field or the outfield bleachers when Infante hit that bomb…….
If they skip Surkamp, it looks to be Saunders/Cain, Lincecum/Kennedy, Vogelsong/Hudson. I’not bailing on the Surkmeister, but if they’re alive, I wouldn’t throw the rookie in there. Everybody would be on normal rest. MLB.COM has it as Collmenter, Saunders, Kennedy but unless they’ve put it away, I think AZ would want Hudson pitching that series.
The Cards don’t have the P to hang for the next 10 games. Too bad we don’t have any games left against the braves. Honestly, it feels like anything could happen right now.
Bucs had a shot in the 9th- runner on third, one out. Walker grounded out, no advance. McCutcheon struck out.1-0 AZ.
3-1/2 out of the wildcard and 5-1/2 out of the division. Obvious statistics show the wildcard more in our grasp; the 3 games against AZ even that out a bit. But it seems for the division, SF really needs to pretty much sweep LA and AZ; 2 out of 3 in both series could certainly gain ground but only depending on how AZ does in its other remaining series. Feeling more hopeful about passing St. Louis and catching Atlanta. That’s ok…
Ferretball should get some type of prize…….at least for consistency!
