You Say What?
Okay Flappers, over the past couple of days (probably weeks), we have beat to death what the Giants should do with their line-up. We have discussed ad nauseam who they should trade and for whom. And a couple of days ago, we even had a discussion thread on the Olympics. (I was out and missed that one, so I’ll get my two-cents in now…I dig the Olympics!)
The non-waiver trade deadline in now only hours away. Sabes and crew have been relatively quiet (lots of rumors…little action). We know “what” they want to add, but Marco Scutaro (for Charlie Culberson) has been the sole trade to date. The Bums have added HanRam and Brandon League, and the latest is that Shane Victorino will slip into a uni of the Hated Blue today. With that, I ask you to turn your attention to yet another topic and offer your profound thoughts (as only a Flapper can).
So, regardless of whether the team signs a bat (Hunter Pence anyone), or a closer, or even if Sabes does nothing and the Giants stay as they are, what do you see as the top three (or say up to five) things that are most critical for the Giants to make the playoffs? And if you can list them in priority order, go for it.
My thoughts (not necessarily in ranked order):
- Pablo must return ASAP, stay healthy, and continue to be a force in the middle of the line-up.
- Blanco, Pagan, and any of the other regulars who have scuffled of late must get back to being consistently productive and stay that way. Granted, players can go through short spells, but I think the regulars must consistently bring it (think key base hit with RISP).
- The bench must contribute. Nate, Arias, Huff…whoever the hell it is, we need some regular production from our bench (think 2010 and Pat the Bat, Ross or Renteria). It has been so pathetic of late that I almost always cringe any time the Giants bring up a pinch hitter.
- Tim and Zito must pitch somewhere around .500, collectively, or better.
- The bullpen has to be “NAILS!” Shit like we saw from Casilla last night just won’t cut it, and Romo has struggled of late.
I purposely left out the other starters, because I will be very surprised if those three do not continue to contribute as they have to date, and also “team health” because that is a given…the team needs to stay healthy.
And You Say What?!
Can’t argue with your main points Chi. Sandoval coming off the DL and Lincecum returning to form should get the club going in the right direction. Hairston switching clubhouses when the Mets leave town wouldn’t be bad either.
Funny that papa and bip on the post game both suggested Hairston, which should be reason enough right there for that to get vetoed, but whatever. I’d be afraid if we got the guy he’d turn out like Mark Portugal did.
Speaking of whom, I’m reminded of him every time I see Bartolo colon pitch. Minus the stache and plus who knows how many pounds, he has that same annoying smirk on his face–“I know exactly how I’m gonna get you out, and you don’t.”
Nice post my brother. You basically took the words out of my mouth.
I don’t know what’s worse: seeing a hobo sit in his own defacation or watching Casilla pitch. It’s a crapshoot (no pun intended).
Perhaps Sabean needs to take a page out of Beane’s Moneyball tactics. The clock is indeed ticking on the trade deadline, so while the Dodgers are grabbing everything off the sale rack, the Giants might be relegated to the bargain basement. Still, 60 games left, but I think there is a sense of urgency to get their shit together now. I’m not ready for football yet.
Hanley cost LA a young starter, is owed a shitload of money, and after an 0-4 last night is still batting .249. League hasn’t pitched very well in a pitcher friendly yard like Seattle, so he’s a yawn. The last Ramirez signing by LA didn’t end well for them either when they gave Manny $45 mil for 2 years he couldn’t fulfill.
I didn’t hear all of it, but I liked Kruk’s rant from yesterday morning. Out of the break they were playing winning baseball, and lately they’ve been playing anything but. SPs have gotten the team behind early, and the pen guys coughed up 6 runs last night. Just way too many mistakes on the bases, in the field and at the plate equals losing baseball. Time for the 25 guys here and now to pull your heads out and get back to doing all the little things that added up to how you got into first place, and that will help you stay there. And don’t look at Sabean, look in the mirror.
Spot on willed and nice essay chi
in rumour deals: while teams that have checked in on Pence believe the Phillies will wait until the offseason.
The Phillies’ asking price on Victorino is outrageous, Yankees will probably learn early today about severity of Teixeira’s injury, and then will decide whether to pursue Overbay/Wigginton
so it looks like our prospective targets are dwindling
fans on MTR think Pence, Dempster and Lee will go in the next 7 hours.
this latest losing streak makes twice in recent memory that my team has been playing hot only to go cold.
My worry is will fans continue to support management while they don’t support them. Is cha-ching all management wants to hear? The current run of sell-outs was 37.8% on Bow-Tie and the WS win. That could change quick and leave the true orange and black fans grumpier than Denny after a bone-head play.
Don’t look at Sabean, look in the mirror. Willie, that has to be the quote of the year. I agree.
I love my Giants, but until I see fit, I’m changing the channel when Casilla takes the mound. It has become excrutiatingly painful to watch.
Pain is part of the experience.
A lot of things need to happen and areas need shoring up, but none bigger than Lincecum returning to dominance. Needs to start tonight.
Yeah!
I said it in May and started to see improvement. Now we are back to May. This team is going nowhere with the way they play defense. Here is my top 5:
1- Play better defense.
2- Play better defense.
3- Play better defense.
4- Play better defense.
4- Play better defense.
Since we are going nowhere with this defense it is time to develop these youngsters instead of trading away prospects. Let this team learn to win, or not win. I just can’t see a team that is this bad on defense win it all. No possible way. You can not give away outs and win.
Identify who you think is in our future and develop them to win. Oh yes, and play defense.
Berger on the defense!
rotoinfo reporting we have acquired Pence
I see that, but no report of the deal parameters. If it happens, Nate has to be part of it, I would think…
This look in the mirror stuff is a crock.
Melky, Posey and Panda can look in the mirror and see good MLB players.
The rest of the starters and bench guys look in the mirror and see what they see — average to below average players. Over the course of the season, you play to what’s in the mirror…
I don’t usually go off on this team here, I think most of you would agree. But I’m sorry… I’m kinda pissed at the moment. 5 fucking losses in a row, at home, when they were about to achieve dominance in their division? Oops…. Sounds like last year. Unacceptable.
They need to do what they were doing when they made their move into first. As others have said here about looking in the mirror, yes, and I paraphrase from one of my earlier posts, the players just need to do their f-ing jobs. And Bochy needs to change channels on wherever his muse is; he seemed to be tuned in before, but lately he seems to me to have some kind of wtf look with his lineups. IMO. Talking Heads said about 35 years ago “cut back the weakness, reinforce what is strong.” Huff? I can’t believe sound minds in management actually thought that was a good (or humane or politically correct) move. Good god, man, retire already, because we all still love you, it’s ok. And, I’m sure someone here can explain to me why Bochy continues to pinch-run Eli for Buster in late innings, going for the win, I guess, but also taking out your de facto captain if the game goes on, which it seems to usually do… And wtf did Blanco do to end up in the Belt doghouse (besides having his average slump, I understand that, good excuse, but the f-ing guy is your leadoff hitter and excellent outfielder and pretty much sparked the team into contention [arguable, but there it is], let him play, man). The 1B hand-job the team has given itself has been discussed ad nauseum here. The pieces are there, and the missing ones are available, fuck this ownership tightwad crap… I think this next handful of hours is rather important for this team’s chances this year, even more so than other years. And in case you can’t tell, even if you don’t care, I will be extremely disappointed if there’s no news today. Tonight, here. But I probably won’t be up late enough to know.. so…. good luck today, gents! I probably won’t be so pissed off tomorrow….. smiley face. Maybe.
good summary of where most of us are. But tell us how you really feel.
Yeah, Ed, just venting… smiley face. Maybe….
Hey, where is your report on the Vietnam Olympic team?
SF hates Victorino even more than this
http://goo.gl/cLh65
he has gone blue!
Twitter rumors blowing up saying that Hunter Pence will go to SF. Rumors. what happens to their Hunter Pence bobblehead night of Aug. 21?
MLB network is reporting the Pence trade as fact, but no details yet.
but Schulman says Bobby Evans is denying it. So, what is real??
No word on Pence’s bobblehead. (grin)
I’m watching twitter and
Hunter Pence deal with the Giants does not include Gary Brown, Brandon Belt or Kyle Crick according to Philies source
Tommy Joseph goes to Phils in Hunter Pence deal
Giants say there is “no deal” for Pence despite reports. Bobby Evans said club “working through many options.”
Giants – Phillies Pence deal is completed pending physicals
Dodgers very close to acquiring P Ryan Dempster
Andrew Baggarly @CSNBaggs
All heavy hitters say Hunter Pence to Giants is pending physical, Tommy Joseph to Phils. Dennis O’Donnell leans back in chair, smiles.
yeah, multiple sources (Jim bowden ESPN) now saying tommy Joseph in deal
The Pence deal will be done- the denials are SOP. It will be official soon.
Is Pence a rental? #carlosbeltranmemories
Pence would be under contract this year and next. So, no. Or a long rental.
Nate to Philly. The cave is officially closed.
you shittin’ me? #cultofnatesadness
haha, good one Pawlie
Don’t mess wif da cave
somebody tweeted: first time Phils on fire all season….fire sale….good one
If it’s Tommy Joseph that goes to the Phils, it’ll lay to rest (somewhat) the erroneous notion that the Giants want to move Buster to 1st base. I said earlier that if anything, these catcher prospects will give them trading chips.
The point being, it SHOULD be easier to find a good 1st baseman than it is to find a good catcher. Buster is an all star catcher. He’s a fair to poor 1st baseman. He’s staying put.
with you on that one, unca
A light bulb finally turns on for Chuck? BLEEP!
I will check back with you in 2014…
http://content.usatoday.com/communities/dailypitch/post/2012/07/hunter-pence-traded-phillies-giants/1
This has confirmation from a “high-ranking Phillies official with direct knowledge of the trade”…
from bleacher reports July 3rd:
If the San Francisco Giants attempt to make a push for a quality player without having to surrender one of their top prospects (Gary Brown, Joe Panik or Chris Stratton) then expect Tommy Joseph to be the centerpiece of that trade.
Phillies are a bit desperate to do this deal. It’s wonderful he got it done without losing G Brown.
Looks like Bergs is on the ledge with the rest of us . . . Naaaaaate! Don’t go!!!
As far as the thread goes, Blanco is the key. If he can return to form at the top of the order, it’ll help the rest of the lineup greatly. the top of the order has been iffy lately. Ryan The Riot has been cooling off as well.
I guess the Phillies will have a Cult of Nate bobblehead night on Aug 21at . . .
say it isn’t true, if Nate leaves the Giants who will Danville have to brag about?
Adding, for the marvellous thread:
We all *knew* panda would be injured via weight/moving position. I am glad, despite the unknowns of a hammy injury, that it wasn’t a tear and it didn’t happen weeks earlier. He *should* be able to work out and not eat during this period on the DL
Where are you guys seeing that Nate was involved? I knew i should have called in sick…i love july 31st.
don’t think anyone has – there are miscreants about, cave hating bobblehead loving rabble rousers they are.
I see Pawlie is around so I will re-post from yesterdays thread:
does *placing* asterisks around a word(s) make it a metaphor, a euphemism, an analogy, an inference or a *virtual* word?
just asking
just a new Internet thing…substitute for quotes or ital, i *guess*
that is not new, that is old school, before the net got powerful. It was text workaround for italics for emphasis it was underscore. I_love_you.
I am sure BFs usage may differ.
I am seeing NOTHING that Nate was involved. Everything I have read makes it appear to be Pence for Joseph.
I also have confirmation from a high ranking source that the Giants need to get their shit together.
which means to me they do not give up on Broxton, the dogers are not the only ones who can do multiples.
Bums get Victorino…i would love to be a fly on the wall in Sabean and Colleti’s office today…Your move BrIan.
Philly was said to want a ML OF in return, so Nate would make sense.
Glad to see Pence coming, without Pablo, this lineup’s got more holes than Blackburn, Lancashire.
great line, first used a generation ago about a soccer team’s defence. And why the 4000 holes in Blackburn? potholes in the roads:
I have heard that this line was taken from a newspaper. It was part of a story describing how the Blackburn council sent someone out to identify all the potholes in the city’s roads. This they did, but the report cost so much that, having identified all the potholes, they couldn’t afford to repair any of them.
thank you, Sgt. Pepper…really; never heard that, mate
And, perhaps symbolic of the complaints about ownership as compared to L.A., the Giants now have Penny and Pence.
Think Penny’s days are numbered.
Don’t you think the Giants as a franchise are worth at least $1.5 billion since Tragic and his group bought the Bums for $2.1 billion? You would think the Giants payroll would be in the $160-170 million range. I know, I know they still have to pay off the park; which should be 2017. I really don’t want to wait that long for ownership to bump up payroll.
With the stadium, defintely.
my sources say the purchase of the bums raises everyone’s bottom line. when it comes to financial stability the SF team is waaaay ahead, even with the park costs. And the future looks bright for team financial strength in SF for the next decade.
For the bums and people calling them the yankmees of the west, they will have to get on top of their ingo with things like tv rights, ticket prices, the ravine as a long term home, etc. and with the debt LA now has that is a long row to hoe.
Well, it never fails. I drive to Idaho, the Giants make a trade. Based on what Coletti is doing, the current losing streak and the fact that we only gave up Joseph, I will reluctantly give 2 flaps up to this move. I don’t like Pence but the reality is, he’s now our 3rd best hitter (4th when Pablo gets back). It makes our team better…
Well, if you go to Idaho during the trade deadline . . .
Love Sun Valley. Drove up there a bunch of times when I was in HS. In the winter. That drive from Wells to Twin Falls was always a bitch.
BF concedes!
Jon Heyman@JonHeymanCBS
hear pence will be 3 for 1. fine young catcher tommy joseph & OF nate schierholtz r in deal. a pitcher may go to philly 2
BLEEP II
today’s olympics that may be available to watch on NBC.
Highlights and such may be available on bbc.co.uk/2012
all events are finals:
canoe slalom, diving, fencing, judo, shooting, swimming and weightlifting (the smaller people)
another final today is ‘eventing’ where a horse must show training, obedience, submission and discipline.
Yes Denny, they do other things with horses beside race.
Yawn………
not your cup of tea, mate?
A BF/ Twin fight is more to my liking.
Apropos of nothing, I expected to hear a lot of Clash music, or even Judas Priest during the Olympics (Beatles? The Who??). As it is, nothing. More grist for the NBC-will-never-get-it mill.
Strangely, the only Priest I hear is in the Honda commercials . . .
i thought I read they played the sex pistols during the opening C?
What Priest song are they playing in Honda commericals—Headin’ Out to the Highway???
Nate should be in the trade. With Pence he won’t get any playing time here. In fact, I read yesterday that he went to management and asked for the trade. Good for him. I would’ve done the same.
It’s reported he’s part of the deal.
Maybe Charlie M thinks he can slow talk Schierholtz’s swing and get him to lay off the backfoot breaking ball.
Nate should do well there.
I agree. I think Schierhotlz will do well there and Manuel will probably help him as a hitter. Sadly, the pride of Danville no longer patrols RF.
Agree. He can reach the fences (unlike here), and hopefully still spray outside pitches to left to keep his avg up. Maybe he helps us out by f-ng over Atl or reds/pirates in case SF is unable to win division.
Andrew Baggarly@CSNBaggs
The deal is Joseph, Schierholtz and Single-A RHP Seth Rosin for Pence. To be announced shortly.
RT Baggs:
The deal is Joseph, Schierholtz and Single-A RHP Seth Rosin for Pence. To be announced shortly
😦
Are you sad because I beat you to it?
that’s how long it takes a tweet to go from Calif to Derbyshire so it was a tie
lqtm
Good luck, Nate.
The deal went from Brown and Panik to this?
Good for Sabes.
or at the least an interception while the tweet was passing over your area.
If we do in fact get Pence, its gonna be interesting to see how CF plays out. I like the Pagan/Blanco platoon idea. I love Crazy Horse, but if he bitches one syllable about reduced playing time I hope Bochy goes off on him ala Jim Leyland on a young Barry B. Like I said the other night, Bochy has given CH all kinds of rope this year and he needs to deal with this like a pro.
The cave has been sold for 1 Pence, with a Penny to spare. The bidets are quiet.
cave power, go Nate!
I’ll miss ya, Nate. Thanks for the ring. And good luck.
same here my mate Nate, “Play Ball!”
I used to be a Nate defender, but he’s 28 and maddeningly inconsistent. He’ll probably hit 20 hrs in Philly, but it wasn’t happening here.
I must share about a possible bad omen that I encountered last night in the Ocean Beach area of San Diego. (I always thought “Ocean Beach” was a lame name for a beach, but I’l leave that for another time) It was around 5pm and I was walking toward the beach heading out for a swim, when I passed several newspaper machines on the sidewalk. I almost can’t believe I really saw this, but plastered on the side of one of the machines was a sticker version of a Topps 1972 “In Action” baseball card. The sticker was larger than a baseball card, maybe 3 x 5 or 4 x 6. Now, that was the first year I collected BB cards and I still have several hundred cards from that year, but I never knew these stickers existed. Plus who knows how long that sticker has been on that machine. The real kicker though is who the player is depicted on the card. He represents possibly the worst TRADE ever made in the history of the SFG franchise. I bet Loo could guess who I am referring to in one guess—-2 or 3 tops.
Loo or anyone else—-do you want to take a crack at who was on the card? It is really quite disturbing that I saw this on the eve of the trade deadline.
gotta be gaylord perry.
tho cepeda to the cards for ray sadecki is right up there.
Pawlie, in John’s own words:
“I was writing the song with the Daily Mail propped up in front of me on the piano, I had it open at their News In Brief, or Far and Near, whatever they call it. There was a paragraph about 4,000 holes in Blackburn, Lancaster, being discovered and there was still one word missing in that verse when we came to record. I knew the line had to go ‘Now they know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall.’ It was a nonsense verse really, but for some reason I couldn’t think of the verb. What did the holes do to the Albert Hall? It was Terry (Doran) who said ‘fill’ the Albert Hall.” John Lennon
File this under verbs are important
love it, sir
OK, I had the right prospect in the deal. I’d rather have Willingham than Pence but c’est lavie the Twins were not going to move him. Legaue went for a lot less than Belt, surprised that we did not get him. I think we still need a bullpen rightie…
I think League is a big pickup. Am I alone in seeing LA winning this arms [and not just arms] race?
Well, we’ll see. I showed his and Hensley’s numbers this year. League has the big arm everybody wants, but it hasn’t translated into big success.
I think he is a very big pickup from the F-Heads of LA…one of those pieces like when we got Ramirez and Javier Lopez in 2010…
Anyone have a report on Heath Hembree, can he be the surprise arm in the bullpen?
KNBR reporting Giants will get cash considerations as part of the deal. $100 question….will Pence be in the line-up tonight?
He better be! If he’s here in time,Bochy will be rung up a flag pole if.he sits him.
Now we “just” need a closer and maybe a bullpen arm.
Charlie Williams, Dawg?
Schulman reported Pence is leaving for SF ‘now.’
I have an answer for San Dog..no not the baseball card question.
“You’ve Got Another Thing Coming” – Judas Priest is in heavety car commercial rotation. I think my wife and kids are getting tired of me playing air guitar and screaming the words ala Halford when that commercial comes on.
But the best car commercial so far this Olympics is a cadillac one I believe with the ultra hip song “Phenomenon” from the ultra hip Yeah Yeah Yeahs….I dont pay attention to the car, just the music…
Baseball card question..is it McCovey?
WillieDav nailed it: Ray Sadeki. How weird is it that I saw a Ray Sadeki sticker circa 1972 stuck to the side of a newspaper machine at the hippie beach in San Diego?
Wasn’t Sadeki traded in 1969?
Yeah. He was in a Mets uni, but it still kind of blew my mind that it was him of all people.
Ahhh, so the Cepeda trade. I, too was PISSED when the Giants traded Perry . . .
The Cepeda trade was a little before my time.
That is pretty bizarre. Then again, Ocean Beach gets pretty weird at night.
my coaching mentor italian guy who grew up in temescal hood in oaktown, knew ernie broglio from his early days playing PCL ball for oakland oaks…and as all cub fans know broglio was the guy acquired from cards when the cubs dealt them lou brock.
“Sadecki” I should have typed. I ended up half in the bag after going out for drinks with my buddy and I woke up this morning a bit hungover thinking “did I really see that?”
We ended up shooting pool at this biker bar in OB that has a bit of an edge to it. 2 guys were playing on the table next to us and were initially giving us kind of a “what the fuck are you guys doing in here” looks. We finally broke the ice with them a bit when one of them put a bunch of Faith No More on the digital jukebox and I was able to discuss Faith No More with them as I used to listen to some of their stuff. I ended up putting some songs that went over well in the bar—“Nighttrain” by GnR and some Zeppelin and other stuff. Later, I ended up at the jukebox just as the last song ran out and it was silent in the bar and it was all on me to choose the next tune. I’d had a few by that point and was also anxious to get back to my pool game. I couldn’t find anything and went into panic mode and picked “Rockstar” by Nickelback—-a song that I must confess I like quite a bit, but not a good choice for the clientele in that bar. I caught all kinds of shit and the good will I had built up around the pool tables was gone. Later someone played some INXS and I tried to throw that person under the bus, but it was made clear to me that Nickelback was still the worst call of the night.
No Judas Priest? Montrose even? Too funny. Yeah, my friends and I ran into Werner Klemperer is some bar down by Ocean Beach. I had the class to talk about the Trial at Nuremburg before screaming SCHUUUUUUUUUULTZ!!!!! This was after stumbling onto a homeless guy hiding in the rocks on the break. He had a 12 pack of Old Mikwaukee Talls arranged in a semi-circle around him. He told us his story of wrestling with a Mako shark during the last high tide. The shark was trying to take his beer. . . .
Broxton to the reds . . .
I let you have that one, twitter is annoying at nighttime
I think the Pence trade is a clunker. I pulled this from Shea off of twitter:
John Shea @JohnSheaHey
Giants are third-from-last in NL in average with RISP: .231. Hunter Pence’s average with RISP: .238. #SFGiants
He’s better than Nate, Blanco, or Pagan. Which is what matters.
Any word on if pagan is really hurt after punching a wall?
How many times must the random nature of hitting w/RISP be explained?
couldn’t help but to respond it’s not random. It’s sort of like Woody Allen’s new movie “When in Rome”. The guy can sing in the shower fantastic…even in front of people! Take him out of the shower, put him in clothes, he can’t sing a lick.
It’s too bad stoneham was running out of money in those days, but for sheer blind foolishness it’s hard to top giants mgr. alvin dark, who reportedly argued with Cepeda over latin music blaring in the clubhouse and too much spanish being spoken. surrounded every day by the likes of mays, mccovey, cepeda, marichal and the alous, and witness to NL stars maury wills and davis boys, henry aaron, bill white ernie banks and clemente, he didn’t think blacks and latins had baseball sense.
Dark was an idiot. A prodcut of the times, sure, but he couldn’t see what was happening in front of him every fricking day.
Any chance we’ll see this LU?
Belt 1b
Cabrera LF
Posey C
Sandoval 3b
Pence RF
Pagan CF
Theriot 2b
Crawford ss
Pitcher P
not tonight, me thinks
I’d say no chance, Dirt. That’s not to say I think it’s a bad LU. I think this is most likely. :
Pagan (Pagan/Blanco)
Theriot ( Melky)
Melky (Posey)
Posey (Pence)
Pence (Sandoval
Sandoval (Belt)
Belt (Theriot)
Crawford (Crawford)
Mine are in parentheses.
I like your line-up proposal, Twin. You need to get on the horn with Bochy…
I doubt it…
Gee…RH Gaby Sanchez gets traded to the Pirates. After I called he wouldn’t be back for Miami.Would of been nice if Sabean looked at him.Platoons at 1B with Belt and has pop 19HR’s in 2010,2011.And a real cheap contract as well.
Yeah he’s struggled this year, but so what? Has power, and would have strenghthen the bench bigtime.
It sure seems like the profile of a player that Sabes would have looked at. Sure would be nice to know exactly what rocks the Giants turned-over while working the trade deadline.
We have absolutely no idea if Sabean inquired or not.
Huff likely DLed again. Pagan is ‘hopeful’ after punching a wall . . .
I don’t think he can contribute anything more to the club and they should just DFA Huff and let him go deal with his physical and other issues.
They might just activate him when rosters expand. He’s capable of popping one or two..
The only thing he’ll pop is a thong.
At least LA didn’t get Dempster.
Wiow. Dempster to Texas? The Rangers are hearing those A’s footsteps . . .
Wiow???

Pence’s numbers at our yard:
76 plate appearances. .329, .366, .566, .932. 25 H, 3 Triples, 5 HRs, 10 RBI, 9 Ks, 3 BB…
Hope they project like that over the next several months…
Recent tweet from Pence: “Thank you Philadelphia for all your support and passion. Excited to see what awaits me in San Francisco!”
Wonder what kind of reception Nate gets . . .
They don’t like Santa.
What is everyone’s opinion(*not that you guys give them out very often) on how this will affect whether the Giants sign Melky or not.
I saw a Sabean comment over at the merc and he says they have the budget for both Pence and Cabrera. Whether Cabrera decides to stay in SF is another story but it sounds like they’ll make legit run at him and at least Pence is controlled for another year. I like the move for this year and going forward.
Probably not.
I think they will still make a push to sign Melky.
It better not come in to play. These guys cry poverty at every chance while the Panda hats fly off the shelves and the seats remain sold out.
You’ll pay Chuck.
And people keep on drinkiing $12.00 beers.
They love it!
And don’t forget the Parking!
I don’t know that it’s crying poverty to have a budget. We all know this is a very wealthy group and rich people don’t get rich by throwing money around. Considering some of the contracts that have beeen approved, I think a better case can be made that they’re stupid more than miserly…but-they might be both…
The last batch of horrendous contracts were on Magown for the most part. Or even Bowtie and Huff. The anonymous group of 30? Who knows?
Bowtie was booted. Didn’t consult enough?
