All hands on deck
One of the more enjoyable things about 2012 Giants has been to watch so many players contribute, in dfferent roles and positions. Hector and X Nady had couple hits each the night before, Crawford a couple long blasts night before that, Sandoval and blanco 3 hits last night and it was Mijares who ended the game on the mound.
You’ve had great contributions from Belt, Pagan, Scutaro, Pence, Arias and even Cristian had a fantastic catch that cost him a couple days injury. Not to mention of course all those involved in the CBC and how spread out Ws have been among the SPs. And I have yet to mention the MVP.
Speaking of whom…..if Tim Lincecum is pitching in the playoffs, who catches him?
Hector should catch Timmy in the playoffs with the soon to be NL MVP at first base. Don’t mess with the chemistry.
I cannot tell a lie, I have always enjoyed contributions from different positions. There, 2 comments in and I have lowered the tone!
I think Buster should catch Tim. Belt is at least as good a hitter as Hector. And both Buster and Belt are superior defensively, which matters in PO games. IMO this is the better team.
Great intro, WD, they are playing AS A TEAM; successfully, exciting and full of opportunities.
Posey catches Tim playoff time,no doubt about it.Need your strongest LU out there. And Hector isn’t it.You don’t weaken 3 postions,Timmy just needs to “Man UP”.
Nope. Belt plays the outfield, Posey plays 1st. Hector’s shown himself to be pretty good behind the dish. Even had a little B Santiago going the other day throwing out a runner
I thought it was interesting that Maddux preferred guys like Charlie O’Brien and Eddie Perez instead of Javy Lopez. Braves accommodated him during their run.
Well, it’s gonna have to Hector because that’s what everyone has gotten used to. But Buster is a better hitter when he’s catching (at least from an HR standpoint) and that’s undeniable. I’m ok with Belt in LF. And Hector’s a hitter. It’s not the worst thing in the world, but we’d all rather have Belt at first and posey catching. If Zito gets a start that’ll be another Hector start So this isn’t a small issue.
I can see that happenning, as Wrongo as it is. A LU that is only very marginally improved offensively and suffers defensively at at least 3 positions is not a good thing. I say “at least” 3 positions because Belt also improves the overall infield defense…
Every game a different look and every game a new hero. Yeah I like it!
Someone said it last night-that was the “A” line up- and the “A” LU is what it should be for the playoffs. That means Hector is a bench player, Arias as well. The only exception that I would favor is Nady in LF against LHers. Kruk or Kuip called Hector the best #2 catcher in the league, and he very well may be that-but NUMBER 2 is the key here- number 2s don’t start in the postseason. So, IMO, this is the postseason LU:
Pagan CF
Scutaro 2b
Panda 3B
Posey C
Pence RF
Belt 1B
Blanco/Nady LF
Crawford SS
That’s exactly how i have it pegged as well Twin. With Cain,Bum,Timmy,Zits, and back to Cain.No way in hell Boch is starting Sanchez a rook in the playoff.Even if their up two games.IMO….
Well, we have had our say, as the time grows closer, October 6th or so, if we all still feel the same way we will need to get Baggs to give us the “insider” info on why the ‘real’ LU is chosen if it is different from what is obviously the #1 choice.
Buster caught Zito the other day . . .
Well I am so busy at work, not much time to post out here, so this is probably day old, week old news? Alex Smith getting fined for wearing a SF Giants hat?? really the NFL and all of sports are so into themselves they can’t let players support other teams in other sports?? I say F’em. Seriouly, not offficial NFL gear!! Puhleezzzeeee.
Yeah I’m with you. Silly rule. Always thought it was cool of him to wear that cap.
Kev – the fine for wearing it is $15,000
Still a stupid rule!! and the cost makes it even more stupid
Approved NFL headware…

I’m not a Niners fan, but this is just fucking ridiculous. And good for Bochy for wearing the Niners hat. The NFL has fans masquerading as replacement refs, but this is what they’re worried about. It’s mind-boggling some of the silly rules the NFL has.
Angel Pagan CF, Marco Scutaro 2B, Pablo Sandoval 3B, Buster Posey 1B, Hunter Pence RF, Hector Sanchez C, Xavier Nady LF, Joaquin Arias SS, (Barry Zito P)
Buster did catch Zits on the 9th,Hector had him on the 15th and now today.
De La Rosa coming off the DL. I have him going 6 shut out. guys like that give the giants fits. oh but there’s the 75 pitch thing so not going beyond 5. this game has lifeless loss written all over it. I just need them to go 8-5 to get to 94 wins!
Giants have fared very well against LHers this year. If he’s back, De La Rosa is very good and he used to pitch well against us. But this team does not play lifelessly…
I was thinking more of a listless offensive performance, especially after 7 runs last night.
You know as bad as Timmy pitched in the first half and has come out of his funk in the second half, I say he pitches and wins the division clinching game this Sunday.
Think about it. The Giants clinched the division against the Padres in 1971, 1987 1997 and 2010. So why not 2012? They may have clinched it in 2003 against the Friars too, but not sure.
I’m pretty sure they clinched 2003 vs. the Padres, too.
Ah, that day game following a night game going for a sweep thingy again. Seem to recall the numbers showed there was no definitive drop off.
i couldn’t find anything on the time of the games, but since Thursday is the traditional get away day, I did look at their record on that day- it’s 8-6. Nothing to get excited about either way A .571 winning percentage vs. .577 overall…
Thanks for the numbers. Thought it wasn’t too bad.
only 4 games left at a decent UK time, so sad.
really great magic number 5 pic:

I can post the pic for you here if you don’t mind.
please do, I have the game on and prime time TV to watch. how lazy is that?
that is to say prime time tv here have no breaks for adverts or anything and it is hard to watch a good program and the game and keep the bourbon glass full.
cool pic; where is it from? I like it.
Pablo again!
I could do with some hot panda. for the next month. yeah, that is it. just what I want.
Nice play, Arias . . .
Last I checked, Giants are 17-17 in day games after a night game this year, so today’s game is a crapshoot.
Oooops!
It’s an RBI line drive base hit on the scorecard . . .
Nice muff by Rosario
How many more times are the Giants going to give up an RBI hit to the pitcher? Sheesh!
At least he gave one back.
Wow. That was another one on a tee . . .
A little torture for the StL team as their closer lets the first batter get to second with the tying run, then SO the next two. and goes 3-1 to the batter with tying run at second before striking him out for the game. I have a dear friend and he is a Cardinals fan all the way. greaat time for me to start giving him some grief as it looks more and more like the two teams may play a 5 game series.
And another ! And another!
Panda power
Red-hot Pablo!
Back-to-back!
Posey power
Bqack to back jacks!! MVP MVP MVVP!
That’sa MY team
woo hoo
They absolutely MUST keep Pablo from going out of the zone…
And Kruk said that Hector was “not just a braindead hacker”…did someone say he was? If so I missed it..just an awful comment, Mikey..
Even in the eighth inning up by seven runs the house is rocking. fans excit_edd and cheering for a single.
dusty baker resting up after a short hospital stay in Chicago. Which means my man Chris Spier is managing the team.
4 for 4!
Speier gets the win! Love it.
It sucks seeing guys like Chris Speier, Robby Thompson, and Matt Williams on other teams. . . They should be here . . .
Agreed–I’m unsure as to why that happens so consistently.
Magic number 4, or just Mel Ott would be enough I guess.
Boring, another win. Contributions from all sides. A Zito start, he almost looked younger tonight.
I love the position the team is in. I can follow other games, size up the playoff teams.
YES! another win. I left my heart in San Francisco.
We can clinch a tie as early as tomorrow night, clinch the division as early as Saturday…
Nats up 4-1. If Bums lose, magic number will be Bill Terry’s retired number. 3!!!
Will the Nats go champagne in the locker room if they clinch a playoff spot tonight, or do they wait for the division title? Being baseball, it wouldn’t surprise me if they do it for both. And I can’t wait to see champagne celebrations for the one-game Wild Card game winners.
Maybe he can find a pic of the 3 Stooges wearing Dodger hats.
It took awhile, and many fingers, but I think Andre is figgering it out..

Regarding “All hands on deck”…..a lot of different things could have happened when Melky got suspended, but the Giants pulled together, became even more of a team, and amazed everyone with the way they bulldozed past the Dodgers to win the division.
The best mgrs. in any sport get the most out of what they have. Bochy loses his AS closer at the start of the season and then the league’s leading hitter after the AS break, and look where his team is now.
Nobody believed in him or his team 2 years ago, either.
We often hear the cliche that “everyone has to step up”- this was one of the truly rare instances where nearly everyone did.The top of the order (Pagan and Scooter, and Buster in the 4 ) rightfully have received great credit, but really only Panda struggled and now he’s raking.
Oh the humanity- the Nats crowd doing a singalong with A-ha’s “Take On Me.” That should never happen.
Threeeeeeee!
And a congrats to the Nats.
And to F.P. He’s nailed down his broadcasting gig there.
Z – He may have nailed down a job but he hasn’t gotten any better. The DC games are considered my local team here and it can get pretty brutal.
Yeah, I have to admit I only get small doses. I haven’t watched the Nats broadcasts all that much.
Menage a baseball TROIS!!
Todd, on the show “Scrubs”: “Last night I dreamed I was in a threesome, but it wasn’t the good kind.”
Pawlie I was following Rays game on cbs site—they scored 6 in bottom of 9th to beat Red Sox after coming in trailing 4-1. Two run single off Andrew Bailey to tie it, and Upton hits walk off 3 run bomb to win it. Stayin alive…
Yikes, I had them dead in that game. Truth be told, by the time I get down there for a book signing at Ferg’s next week, they may be out of it. But wow! And maybe the Jays will erase the Yanks’ late 10-4 lead, which would give me joy.
What are we at? 3? 2? Shit, every day it feels like we’re knocking 4 or 5 games of this be-atch.
3, and can clinch a tie tomorrow
Three, right? Tho’ when my daughter asked, I said four and confused everyone. 3.
It wasn’t very long ago when the “magic number countdown” began…. at that time, I think it was when we broke 20. Magic number of 19. That seemed an interminably high number and would take FOREVER to whittle it down. It amazes me how seemingly systematically and methodically this team just drove it forward. Keep on keepin’ on, boys….
