Posey continues his MVP ways — getting that leadoff hit in the 10th.
Vogy overcame some bad umping and got it done to keep this team in the game. Nice job there, and the Pen…

  49. twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 said, on October 9, 2012 at 6:55 pm

Chapman was dominant and threw just 15 piitches. Bochy went with Sergio for two, Dusty went with Broxton. Advantage Bonehead..

  50. Billy's avatar Billy said, on October 9, 2012 at 7:09 pm

Gotta think Leake will be going for Cincy tomorrow. Dusty seemed to indicate in the post-game conference that Cueto was not an option and Latos would be going on back-to-back three days rest. I would think they would want to save him for game five. Obviously the giants needed to win today, but with Cueto injured this really changes the momentum of the series.

  51. twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 said, on October 9, 2012 at 7:15 pm

It wasn’t the same situation as 2010 when he relieved Dirttty but what was similar was how Affeldt totally quieted everything down. Really not a peep…
About Chapman again- if Dusty was thinking about tomorrow, that’s not something you do in the playoffs.

  52. PawlieKokonuts's avatar PawlieKokonuts said, on October 9, 2012 at 7:22 pm

Holy shit. Didn’t say it here but texted Magnus, Dennis, Ted, and local folks the following: WE SCORE WE WIN. I “didn’t stop believin’ ” that. You know, the giants may not win this series but that game brought the ol’ mojo back. We seem to thrive on the #torture. At least we hold our heads high, very high. And just think, they fecking strike out 16 of our fecking hitters and fecking lose?! How’s that fecking feel, Cincy? Sleep on that. It’s like you fecking face the fecking fire fecking squad and fecking come out fecking whistling. Amen to that, Flappers!

  53. chipower9's avatar chipower9 said, on October 9, 2012 at 7:25 pm

Latos threw fifty-some pitches Saturday night. And really, I don’t give a fuck who they throw. They can throw the fucking kitchen sink as far as I am concerned.

I again have a good feeling about tomorrow.

One day, one game at a time. That is my new mantra.

Catch ya on the flip-side Flappers.

  54. PawlieKokonuts's avatar PawlieKokonuts said, on October 9, 2012 at 7:25 pm

POSTSCRIPT: Although I deem it foolishly risky, I say the whole bit of Pence staying in the game, obviously w/ Bochy’s blessing, was a bit of testosterone-oozing chest thumping, as if to say, “Brandon Phillips, you stayed in after your calf injury? Easy. We’ll show you up on that one.” [I’d use poker terms but would screw it up.]

I did get a text from Pawlie at 5:54pm. It said “we score we win”
    no punctuation necessary.
I was coaching soccer w/o my assistant coach and so I was busy managing what felt like 40 kids at the time I got the text.
And it wasn’t a text that sounded promising since the last time I checked it was 1-1 in the 7th……
So hoping we score (and win) wasn’t something I was interested in checking immediately on my phone.
Then I got a call from Pawlie, still couldn’t take it, and was regaled with a typical (for Pawlie) “walking the dog, post win” call. And the best part of the call was the end of it. Pawlie’s daughter’s soccer team tied their game 2-2–and that was the victory of the year, if you ask me (and you wouldn’t have to ask me if you knew how their season was going).
And just when you’re wondering why I’m talking about Adrianna’s tie soccer game it’s because that tie was a huge victory.
And huge victories are tough to come by….
    That’s why they’re huge.
And now I’m asking for something nearly as huge: A shutdown game tomorrow from Barry Zito. That would be almost as huge.
    Maybe huge(er)…..
I’ll leave you all with San Diggity Dawg’s post that I started with this morning:

“SanDawg said, on October 8, 2012 at 8:27 pm (Edit)
Snarkk–I like your point about Zito in today’s thread. Zits taking the mound in Game 4 with a chance to send the darn thing to Sudden Death would be such a good story, that I can’t imagine it not coming to pass. If he delivered on that stage, I would be finally ready to grant him total absolution for past sins. An “Etch-a-Sketch” moment if there ever was one!”

“Make it so, #1”. (star Trek New Gen reference. Maybe I should have said “Make it so, #5”?)

Yup, pawlie called it with a text. Very simple and I quote:
    “We score. We win”
How true it was. Good call, my friend.
But…but…I’ve never been in the doomer area but, frankly, I didn’t like this win. Don’t get me wrong. I’ll fucking take it. But I didn’t like it. Looked to me that the Giants, otherwise known as The Walking Dead offensively, got lucky with a few Reds’ mistakes. Not exactly the “Road to the World Series”

    Bochy says
    “Zito’s good for me”
    Bochy says
“Love my pitcher Zito cuz he’s the only pitcher ready that–that–Oh, God, can’t anyone get a fucking extra base hit?”

Ya know, I looked at some of the highlights on MLB.com.
A lotta guys might have jogged out that bouncer to third and Rolen, thinking it was probably doing to get picked and then a routine throw out. But, not Arias.
He busted his ass running down the line from the get go in the box, and because of that he just barely beat the Rolen throw after the bobble; but he did beat it. I love that. Great hustle. Hustle and respect for the game kept the Giants alive in this series…
