A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

squeeze

Posted in Uncategorized by willedav on October 26, 2012

My old HS b-ball coach, an italian guy who played ball with Curt Flood and Frank Robinson back in the day in Oaktown, had a favorite expression:  “When you got em by the balls, you gotta squeeze.”

This is the squeeze game.  We beat Sanchez or their pen, Tigers are down 3-0 and basically done.  If they can rebound, they’ll be fired up and pointing toward  another Verlander start game 5 monday when (in their dreams) they could go ahead 3-2.  Imo saturday is the pivotal game.  SF had best squeeze the life out of them, now.

I know it’s not over, but someone posted a few days ago that the Giants might be looking at 3 straight WS championships had Posey not been injured last year. My first years as a fan I had to endure those A’s teams . . . . this will be very, very sweet.

The only thing I would change is Hector as DH. I didn’t like it before the game, and he shouldn’t be DH tomorrow. Get Arias in there somehow. I don’t care that he’ll face a RHP. Hector is a wasted AB at this point. Heck, I would even put Nady is as DH and have Pablo still play in the field. Nady might run into one, he’ll take some good ABs. If Detroit wakes up tomorrow, they should be playing like their hair is on fire to win the game. I’m just not sure they have it in them. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Giants kick their ass tomorrow…

I’m telling you guys, as soon as the Giants win this Series, the national media will move on so fast to other stories, it will be like it never happened. Just like 2010. And, I will be loving it all…

Got to see the whole game thank-you. Power went off once while talking to my brother in Fresno. Weird storm, it’s hitting us from the North but coming from the South.
We’re good here and the Giants are up 3-0, I would have never called that.
    Cheers all.

great man, this was first whole game I got to watch in a while too. Gotta figure out a way to catch the espn broadcast–i’d rather listen to gary thorne than the f-ing fox doofs. sutcliffe was the guy I heard a long time ago say Lincecum’s troubles date back to spring training when (according to sut) he couldn’t control his fastball. He sure looks good now; maybe this bodes well for a return to nearer form for next year.
But I said this last night, there is zero doubt Posey is the C for everyone, every day, as long as he holds up. Forget 1b, 3b or any of that BS; you can’t move a guy who dominates the position like he does somewhere else. And I don’t think he’s having any of it, either.

I have a bit of a dilemma here Willie. Sports Center, Weather Channel or bed. OK bed it is. Matt tomorrow, I gotta think, we’re good.

Great game…another nail-biter. Torture 2012. Awesome awesome game. And again, it was so intense, I just couldn’t break away to Flap it…

Been catching up on some post-game CSNBA…Affeldt talking about the ring being the most important thing. That ring in 2010 was stupendous…can only imagine what the next will look like.

I have been feeling for some time that I like this squad better than 2010s…each game just solidifies those feeling that much more.

    ONE MORE!

Damn – I was out running around all day…barely got settled in for the first pitch…just now saw that Posey won the Hank Aaron award. Nice prelude to the MVP award.

Shit…just heard that the Giants have not trailed an opponent in 54 innings! Yowza!

I love this factoid, a combination of the Giants’ current dominance and Dodger futility of yore: “San Francisco threw the first consecutive shutouts in the Series since Baltimore in 1966, when Jim Palmer, Wally Bunker and Dave McNally did the trick to finish off the Dodgers.”

Also, the Giants have given up 3 runs and haven’t even unleashed the loogie on the Tigers.

      Palmer over Koufax…with a shutout. Pretty other-worldly…

Ballet boy, here. Thanks for the texted score updates. Daughter soloed. I caught a few innings on radio as I feared getting lost in the swamps by the airport en route to my cousin’s place. (Funny: local ESPNs came in lousy; picked up 1530am in Cincy! Good sign: their ads for the BLACK&ORANGE Bengals.) Then saw Gregor’s catch in the 9th and the close. I still can’t fathom this and will never quite fathom. Remember, when we talked about the hot team, the hungry team winning it all? This is something beyond that: how to describe it? The laser-focused team? The totally confident team? BEYOOTIFUL. G’night, girls. One mo’ time. Hurricane Sandy? How ’bout Hurricane Gigantes?

Awesome game, and the most awesomest moment, for me, was this scenario:
    A. Oh no! Peralta hit a homerun!
    B. Wait! It might go foul!
    C. Blanco caught it! What an amazing catch!
    D. The Giants’ D is incredible!
And I felt a little bit psychic, because when the Giants were batting in the previous half-inning, I was yelling at the TV screen for Blanco to walk away from the ump after Blanco started arguing the called 3rd strike. I yelled: “Don’t get thrown out! We need your defense!”

Mitch Albom even uses the word “unflappable”: http://www.freep.com/usatoday/article/1663363?odyssey=mod|newswell|text|Detroit%20Tigers|s

He went the first five paragraphs without even mentioning that the Giants were the opponent. Typical…

Pretty good video analysis from Jason Stark with some of those historical, amazing stats.
He’s the only guy at ESPN that actually “gets” the Giants…

Actually, Caple and one other guy (forgot his name) selected us as well in their “experts” picks.

I sincerely pray that Mega Big Flavor Shady archives this season’s blog, it is too valuable to lose.
