A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

squeeze

Posted in Uncategorized by willedav on October 26, 2012

My old HS b-ball coach, an italian guy who played ball with Curt Flood and Frank Robinson back in the day in Oaktown, had a favorite expression:  “When you got em by the balls, you gotta squeeze.”

This is the squeeze game.  We beat Sanchez or their pen, Tigers are down 3-0 and basically done.  If they can rebound, they’ll be fired up and pointing toward  another Verlander start game 5 monday when (in their dreams) they could go ahead 3-2.  Imo saturday is the pivotal game.  SF had best squeeze the life out of them, now.

      ?
imo, if Detroit wins game 3, they regain confidence and belief in themselves, esp with home crowd. Even if they lose game 4, they have Cy guy going monday which they figure he wins–ergo, they are no worse than down 3-2 and force SF to play more games. They have Fister, who shut us down, ready for game 6. Game 7, anything can happen (ask Texas). I just think this is the one SF really needs, to bury them.

Bozo, is Sandy the “test storm” for all the improvements you have made with the house?
Stay warm, my man. I never knew the OBX poked out that far compared to the mainland.

    Vogel-Strong, DH, road
    we score we win
    Go Gigantes!

    Catching up, because I can.

Romo: The thing I have liked about Romo is that his stuff, as displeasing to scouts as it may be, is working. And has been for almost two full seasons now. everyone knows his “dot free” slider is coming and yet? they cannot hit that pitch. #goromogo

Windows 8: Thanx Twin, I eagerly await your take on this. I am testing server 2012 so have no capacity to run 8 up the flagpole. I can see some future worries for the PC version as hardware manufactures adjust to the market and Win8 machines could quickly become obsolete with support dropping as manufacturers move forward. Which has nothing to do with how 8 works for the user.

AL lineups: I guess Bruce is a better manager than I am. I know he likes any flexibility and choices he can get from his bench which may be one reason to not start Arias.
Where is Melky when we need him (DH)?
eddacker ducks out the back dodging items being hurled his way with a spry speed seldom seen in a man his age.

Edd- Sandy will be the first major storm to hit us since Irene fucked us up. So yeah Herr frankenstorm will be our test storm. I know I live in a part of Hurricane Alley, but man, I was really hoping to get thru this hurricane season without getting hit. Almost made it, I think the season ends in a couple of days.
Today is just finishing up securing some things and then just hunker in. The radio is tuned into ESPN just in case we lose power during the game. The station is located on Hatteras Island which will get hit about the same time as me, so keep your fingers crossed that they keep broadcasting the game and not just emergency warnings.

When I had my mountain home, my deal was the white shit, otherwise known as snow. Each approaching winter (Fall), I would dread the blizzards to come. While you spend your time “securing some things,” likewise, I would be spending my time “winterizing my home,” e.g., slurry seal the asphalt driveway, clean gutters of leaves, check for loose shingles, inspect and maintain the HVAC system, etc., etc. Oh, did I grow to hate winter up there.

The March 2003 Blizzard of the Century, where I personally had 8-10 feet of snow in my driveway and had to constantly remove snow from my decks and roof, as well as dig a tunnel to the street almost 70 yards away, didn’t break my will or shake my belief that I was living in “Gods Country.” No, I sold my beautiful house because the cumulative effect of these *$%@!+)^% blizzards over the years defeated me . . . Two of the last three years I lived up there I had lesser storms (from the 2003 one) do significant damage to my property, where I said fuck this shit, selling the house and buying a condo in the city. 🙂

My point? Keep fighting the good fight Bozo and I hope you get through this storm in one piece.

Edd-as widely reported, 8 is built for touch- without it, it’s just annoying-so far. I had go online to see how to shut it down. The good news, as I learn about it’s features, you can basically toggle out of 8 and it’s 7 again!

I understand Willie’s take but the only way I would be concerned about this series is if we were swept in Detroit. I predicted a “heart pounding” 7 game series but I can’t honestly say I expected *both* Zito and MadBum to win, I don’t disagree that a win tonight would all but seal the deal, but even 1 out 3 leaves us in the driver’s seat.
Bozo-as always, I wish you and your family well.

    • Locojuan's avatar Bozo said, on October 27, 2012 at 9:45 am

Thanks twin, we should be OK. For some reason, I’m more worried about being able to watch the game than the storm itself. I’m not trying to trivialize the storm or what it’ll do, just feeling pretty good about our situation.
All I have left to do is secure some porch items and hunker down.
      Cheers.

Nate Silver, of the 538 blog, now has Obama at a 74% chance to win the election. Nate’s book “The Signal and the Noise” is in the top 10 of the NY Times non-fiction bestseller list.
Nate’s “stock” is real high right now. If Obama loses the election, Nate’s stock will take a big hit.

To be consise, it’s actually 74.4% (and 78.6% “now cast”) and is up 6.5% since Oct. 19th. Even nationally, Obama overtook Romney in the aggregate polls per Silver, by a miniscule .2%. gain of .4% since last Thursday. Disregard the national numbers – the swing states are what counts and Obama is clearly in the “drivers seat” and has 295.4 (296.8 “now cast) electoral votes forecast by Silver. Similar to the Giants lead and eventual win in this World Series, I have NO doubt that Obama wins comfortably against Romney.

There’s a bunch of music biographies and autobiographies out these days. A lot of the “classic rockers” are reaching an age where they’re comfortable sharing about their past and their private lives.
Neil Young, Pete Townshend, and Springsteen all have bestselling books. Keith Richards’ book was a bestseller. And there are others.
Of those, I’ve only read Neil’s book so far. It held my interest throughout, and was very poignant is some places, and humorous.

BTW, the way the DH rule works, as I understand it, if Buster were hurt or left the game for any reason and Hector took over, the pitcher would then bat 4th, Hector 8th as now, there would no longer be a DH.

So I guess if they wanted to keep the DH, Panda could catch and Arias at third. Or would that screw up having a DH as well? I really should look up the whole DH thing, because I don’t know a damn thing about it.

      • twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 said, on October 27, 2012 at 4:31 pm

That scenario would keep the DH. The DH is lost when/if the DH takes over for a position player. In the situation you describe, Hector did not do that.

well, as you know, his numbers against the Giants are outstanding—Latos-esque. But look where that got Latos? Upper deck rope grand slam.
I followed A-Sanchez very closely in 2012 and spent the majority of the Summer cursing his name.
But he’s got the potential to throw a no hitter every time out there.
Let’s hope we get some of the *mid-summer* Anibal and and not the *other* Anibal…..

      • James's avatar James said, on October 27, 2012 at 4:24 pm

I will take more pleasure in seeing Sanchez get his ass kicked than any of the other pitchers on the Detroit staff. I was at the ballpark for this game, the day after Posey was lost for the season:

      • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on October 27, 2012 at 4:28 pm

that must have been a little like (I said a *little*) the game after Melky went bye bye. They lost that one, too. Then Angel Pagan turned into Ricky Henderson….

      • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on October 27, 2012 at 4:32 pm

I followed him too, i.e., I had him on a FL team last year, as well as this year – last year he was very, very good, especially in SO (202) and ERA. He never wins much, usually right around .500 or worse. His WHIP is also a bit high, at least for fantasy league.

This year, there were two “Anibal’s” and I traded his ass after his horrendous start in late June, where he allowed 6 or 7 runs in 3 innings pitched. Second time in the month, that he had done that. So, as you said Flav, let’s hope that guy shows up.

      • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on October 27, 2012 at 4:50 pm

not sure what his run support was this year, and it probably wouldn’t have mattered because of how bad he was for 3 months, but he was one of the least supported pitchers (with runs) in 2011….

No KNBR option on mlb.com tonight so I am listening to ESPN gary Thorne and Rick Sutcliffe.
avoiding FOX but there is an option to listen to “in park” while watching. If the game gets boring I will have to listen to that. Should be riveting.

The Tigers must be tired of facing the top half of innings, already.

    LMFAO.

  57. eddacker's avatar eddacker said, on October 27, 2012 at 6:16 pm

then the DP and Thorne says, “oh, my, giants defence again.”

Joe Buck is squirming now. The Tigers are lost and Buck is bewildered with a team West of the Rockies thats bulldozing teams

    • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on October 27, 2012 at 6:38 pm

totally. And he’s probably not wearing pants now. And while it doesn’t make any sense why the GIants winning would lead to Buck taking his pants off as a consequence for being a dumbfuck announcer, I do enjoy envisioning him as a dumbfuck pantless announcer. But hey, maybe that’s just me.
Your bro do ok tonight at his gig?

SF would love a pantless Joe buck…

  64. Alleykat's avatar Alleykat said, on October 27, 2012 at 6:39 pm

Hell of a stat..Giants have not trailed for 49 straight innings. That’s getting it done!!!

  65. Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on October 27, 2012 at 6:45 pm

If Buck had only said, “The Giants gave won 5 straight tonight…” and then followed that up with “and Big
Flavor slapping that skanky fuckin’ GILFY ho up at the BBOTD widget at the flap was quite likely the impetus to this incredible run….”
    I would…..
    celebrate wildly.
And I as much as I’m enjoying this game, I want a check in from the best clown the world has ever known….

  68. Fugazi's avatar Fugazi said, on October 27, 2012 at 6:55 pm

On one of the sites today someone said the giants were getting the lucky bounces. Granted that may be but this team is playing exactly the same way as 2010 when they beat Texas. Dominate Pitching, hits and generating runs in the right spot and Bochy out Coaching the other Manager. The amazing fact that Bochy is doing this with only one position player from 2010 speaks volumes on how he’s the best Manager in Baseball…

    This ain’t no fluke…
