Parade Pic Compilation
It’s going to be easier for me to just upload them into this thread. Starting from the bottom, the last 4 are from Snarkk, then 8 from Chico. After that, there’s about 9 or 10 from Chi. his top two are of him and his daughter and then of them with Demp28 and his wife. The 3 at the top are from Sarge who looks like he was way back a the civic center. He said his 6 year old took most of the pics so that’s why there are only 3 good ones, lol.
Great pics guys! That’s a pic of Chico wearing the Fresno Grizz owner’s ring (I guess he sat next to him yesterday and the dude let him take a pic with it. Chico, you either have some pretty big stones to have asked to wear it or that owner is the coolest owner on the planet). Oh, and I think you should send the one of Posey to his wife. She can crop it and use it as her facebook pic. That one is classic! The tickertape raining down on City Hall says it all. Thanks for sending these in you guys! If you have anymore keep emailing them to me. bigflavor77@gmail.com
Let’s keep this thread up for a few days……..

all my pics are off the comcast broadcast of the parade.

one of my favorites
Krukow may live in the SoCal hinterlands, but he is SF through and through. Would be even if the Giants had not’in’ to do with his life. Somehow, someway, he would have found us.
Peace, Mike
We-Are!
Great photos, Chico. Edd, I thought it was an awesome idea to have the whole team and a true kodak moment with the trophy.
Cheers all.
Wow, what a day yesterday. I was up at 1 A.M. to get to my daughter’s house by 2. We were on the road shortly after 2. Caught the 5 o’clock train out of El Cerrito and met my bud (Demp28 and his wife) on Market (they spent the night at a hotel half a block off Market). We were on the barricade at the corner of 3rd and Market at 6 A.M. I got home last night around 7 and shortly thereafter poured myself into bed, spent and exhausted.
Great pictures…not sure I have any that tops some of these. I was torn between being at the Civic Center and on the route, and am happy with my decision.
By the time the end of the parade made it by us, my phone battery and camera batteries were basically spent.
I will go through my pictures and send those I feel are worthy to BF. Regardless of the pictures, this was one of the absolute best experiences I have ever had in association with the team we all love and cherish. It was just one KICK ASS DAY!
I set Comcast’s coverage of the parade up to record last night…am looking forward to seeing it. We did stop at a Chevy’s on the way out of The City, and saw a bit of the parade while sitting in the bar area there. Awesome!
cool stuff. Some of this has stay up permanently, somehow, imo. And all props to Romo, a kid who’s family came here to california in hopes of a better life, worked hard and endured much, and have been fortunate enough to see their son prosper. He’s a great story, as is the whole team.
continued full on bask, which changes your prospective of just about everything. Even the warriors looked good last night…insert one of zum’s grins.
Sounds like a great time was had by all who attended. Wish I could say the same. We just got into the city too late to get a spot where we could see anything. My 6 year old was perched on my shoulders and I let her use my DSLR to take some pics and they’re all blurry. I was able to catch a glimpse of Will Clark when he passed by and that would be my highlight of the day. Didn’t get to see anyone else,
Fabulous up close pictures… !
Craig – I have quite a few good picts of the players, coaches, Mike Murphy, Mays, McCovey, etc. from right on the parade route. I think the easiest way for me to get multiple photos to you in one shot (from my iPhone) is with a text. If you know of an easier way, let me know (for some reason, my iPhone shows up when I plug it into my work machine, but it does not see/recognize the pictures). Shoot me an email with your phone number and I will get the picts to you.
2013? Back-to-Back?? Why the FUCK NOT???!!!
you can email me them individually to me from your phone. You can text them too but then I have to email them to myself and I’m not going to get to uploading anything till I get home from work later this pm
I’ll just wait until I get home to see if I can email the bunch of them to you in one email. I have quite a few up-close of the players in their cars, Mays, McCovey, etc.
Check back later Flappers for more picts.
It really was an unbelievable day! WOW!
YOU have to change the setting on the iphone from “phone” to “storage device” to see files in the memory.
emailing is good or put them on a shared drive ‘in the cloud’ you must have one?
http://osxdaily.com/2010/07/10/transfer-photos-from-iphone-to-computer/
on work computers external devices and usb connections may be protected, email the pics to yourself, if work allows that or to your home email addy
Great pics. I wasn’t expecting to see Nuke there.
I was surprised he didn’t get a bigger ovation but then again there were a lot of band wagon chumps at city hall that probably don’t know he was shoved out the door
Caught some of the parade at the Giants site. Was it just me or did Pagan strinke anyone else as already out the door?
it’s just you, I think he likes being on a winner and being part of the team’s success. With his family he is very relaxed, daddy Angel instead of lead-off Pa-Gone?
Let’s leave this thread up at least another day or two to all Chi and others to send me their pics. I can’t tell you how cool this thread is, love it. I’ll dump some of them (all?) into the flap photo bucket at some point
I turned Chico’s city hall ticker tape pic into my Facebook cover page
Great photos, all. Love the famed Beat poet, Michael Krukowski…
hahahahahaha
many smiles, michael
Craig and Michael – sent you four emails…each has 10 or 12 picts, each. These are the choice ones from my iPhone…I will go through the pictures on my camera tonight (there are some on it that I did not get on my iPhone…like The Dominican Dandy, and Baby Bull, to name a few).
Loving these pictures, this thread, this team…that awesome fucking day yesterday…WOW…
These are fabulous pictures! I agree with WillieD – We need a link to these pics, so they can be viewed in perpetuity. Great job you guys and it sounds like everyone had a blast . . . I’m glad everyone give first hand info on the parade celebration, albeit, I’m a bit envious of you SF bay area folks (sigh).
I’m trying to decide what “swag” I am going to purchase online, e.g., I love those black sweatshirts the GMen are sporting at the parade.
I gave you alink to mine. And, I believe, MAGNUS will save all these on the fotobucket
memories, you guys, this team, priceless
Thanks.
It was a perfect blade serrated on both sides.
What kind of blade is serrated on both sides?
you are welcome, my brother.
The wife gave me a gift card to the dugout store last week and i’m having this same problem.
I might do what I did last time and wait until I visit the bay area sometime after the 1st of the year . . . I did that in 2010 and scored a couple of quality T shirts and a sweat shirt at Sports Authority. Big 5 wanted twice that amount for the same swag.
The one complaint I would have about the parade, and that’s been pretty much the one big one in the blogs, is that they put the players in cars, for the most part. Don’t know why, maybe to focus more on them individually? Whatever. Last time they were in the Cable Car mock up mobiles. We were only about 3-4 rows back yesterday, and could barely see the players, and I had to hoist the smaller Snarkette up to see most of ’em. When all the cameras went up to shoot, if was hard to see them. Giants should put the players back up on those Cable Cars or similar so that they’re high up enough off the street for everybody to see them. FOR THE NEXT Parade… 😉
snarkk – on the Comcast broadcast they said it was done so people could see them better. The cable cars are taller but if your favorite player was on the other side you’d miss em. So if the cars didn’t work maybe next time they’ll roll on monster trucks with a bench seat in the back.
I thought the cars were fine.
They did move to fast. Or, in Romo’s view, not close enough to every single member of the worshiping crowd.
Maybe managers should have seen it as 2 parades. The one, and then the players in their cars?
Yeah, I think they would have been more visible in a cable car. What really pissd me off was that the media was out in the street and many times it was tough getting an unobstructed shot without some fat-ass media fuck being right in the way.
This was especially true when Romo came by (He said fuck it and jumped out of his car and was on foot). I got one decent shot of him that was not obstructed, and it is in one of the batches of pictures I sent to Flavor and Twin.
And you are right, snarkk…I keep referring to “the NEXT PARADE” too.
2013? Back-to-Back? As you like to say…”Why the Fuck Not?!”
how right you are, the interview creeps, getting access we could only dream of, and interfering with our only view.
Hopefully we will have a next parade with organisation for the real team with the real fans at a real pace?
OK, Bozo. I get that intent. They just really didn’t think that one through. The first row or two on the parade route got to see them well. After that, they were so low to the ground, it was not cool for everybody else in the crowd. Maybe there is no good solution for everybody, but I think up higher in a cable car is the better of the two choices for more people to see…
I think the only solution is to get up real early to ensure you are up front. We were on the street (3rd and Market) between 6 and 6:30, and were right on the barricade. We also found a spot in front of the row of paper machines (highly suggested) so that you won’t have a bunch of dumb fucks pushing up against your back side. Only thing I do differently next time is take a chair, and a couple of thermos (mimosas, baileys and coffee, etc.).
And, even though it was set up as a TV parade, the camera locations I viewed suffered mightily.
But isn’t that the way wild, live events like this are? Chaotic, dissonant and “once-in-a-lifetime”?
IMHO, not completely well managed. As a former manager and now at a distance I can say that.
🙂
I thought they should just each get their own standing electric 2 wheel scooters that Mall Cops jazz around on
Well, Huff is entering the Mall Cop phase of his career now, so that does seem appropriate for him…
I’m telling you guys, Monster trucks are the way to go.
walking, Romo style, with display ramps to climb, with mics to yell at the fans. human paces and super-human players. Wifes and kids on cable cars sorted by parade order. At the display ramps players can choose to bring their families on board. Video feeds could show the families for those members that choose not to be on the ramps?
“jazz around”?
Edd, if they’re walking, it’s even worse. Only the people watching on TV and the first row or two in the crowds will see them. No reason for the rest of us 990,000 to go to the parade if they all walk and we can’t see them at all…
I know today’s thread is dedicated to the parade (Flavor will post mine later today…keep your eyes open…hope you enjoy them as much as I did being there to take them).
But I was going through some old emails the other day, and found this email from my friend Mike (Demp28 on The Flap) sent the morning after the Giants won it all in 2010. I thought it worthy of sharing…
>>> On 11/2/2010 at 7:57 AM, in message , wrote:
Good very morning my brother. Whew! Where to begin. I may jump around on a few subjects, but there is sooo much emotion going through me right now, I don’t know where to begin, but here goes.
From the first Giants game my stepdad’s dad took me to the ‘Stick back in 1975, I was in awe of the ballpark. Sitting in the upper deck in front of about 5 or 6,000 fans watching the likes of Matthews, Maddox, Speier, Halicki, Montefusco, the Giants were my team; even in the lean years, they were my team.
Fast forward to 1987, and there I met, in the reserves, a very fanatical Giants fan named Chuck Marchant. Little did I know that we would become the very best of friends and it was Giants baseball that brought us together.
I remember the first game we went to together; in 1988, followed by Opening Night 1990, the year after the Giants won the pennant, and parking on the hillside parking lot at the ‘Stick.
We cried when we heard the Giants were moving to Florida after the ’92 season, only to be saved by local investors; who would kickstart the process of a new downtown ballpark, and signed who we thought was the greatest player of our generation.
We were there on the final night game and last game at the ‘Stick, met Larry Lush and Boomer Berman, and saw the ballpark groundbreaking, as well as watching it become fruition.
We were there when Pac Bell Park was officially opened, watched Bonds launch balls into the Bay, witnessed Snow’s homer in the playoffs in 2000, shared season tix, met new Giant fans along the way, went to every Opening Day, collecting pins, shirts, etc.
We witnessed a new home run king, an All-Star game, a very forgettable WS in 2002, and we said goodbye to Bonds in 2007 and ushered in a new era of Giants baseball.
We suffered through 4 losing seasons before seeing an amazing transformation of what would be a pitching rotation that not even the great Giants teams of the ’60’s could compete with.
They say hope springs eternal, and Spring Training 2010, no one had a clue as to what was about to take place. We had the pitching, the hitting was suspect, but as watched on Opening Day, the Giants got hits at the right time. They took a flier on a long time American Leaguer; who would lead the team in homers, a player who toiled in the minors for so long, he wound up winning the coveted Willie Mac award, took faith in a rookie catcher; who would wind up with a 21 game hitting streak, a rookie pitcher with balls of steel who would dominate on the road, a bald headed player from Florida that the Giants really didn’t need other than to block a team from getting him, who would become the NLCS MVP, and a GM who has been criticized for making some bad deals in the past made all the right moves in piecing the puzzle together. A manager who had the Midas touch at just the right time, an owner who believed what baseball was “The Giants Way”.
We watched with much torture how this team came together, won the close games, played as a team, played for each other, played for the fans, played for their city.
It all came together in September of 2010, when this band of misfits and castoffs defied all odds to win on the final day of the regular season, and carried all of us on a magical ride through Atlanta, Philadelphia, and finally to the Dallas metroplex. There, a shortstop who wasn’t worth $18 million dollars over 2 years and thought about quitting in mid-season hit a pitch that was worth $18 million.
Brother, we have been through marriages, births, divorces, deployments, and new jobs, and even death of loved ones. One thing that has stood the test of time through all that: our love for Giants baseball.
2010 WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS: YOUR SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS!!!
Love you like a brother!!
Sent on the Sprint® Now Network from my BlackBerry®
how cool is that?!?
Very cool…
what they said, thanks mate for sharing that
I won’t lie boys (and Ferret)…I still get all misty-eyed every time I read that email. Thanks Mike (Demp28) for being such a great friend…and sharing life and the love of the Orange and Black!
What a great email Demp! Thanks Chi for sharing.
double what he said, that email/letter/story? Better than just about anything I have ever read!! no joke, magnificent you two.
Link to good Baggs article on 3 players who will be FAs after Saturday, and prospects to re-sign them. Affeldt, Scutaro, Pagan. I think Affeldt will be priced out of the market by the idiot rich dudes running Chavez Latrine, and he’s not coming back — he’s got two rings here, and this is his last deal, so he’s going to cash in. I would. Scutaro, same thing. This next contract is his last. Ka-Ching. Though I’m leery about his age, I’d love to have him back, I think he’s good for the rest of the squad, a coach on the field, good guy to show the young guys how to take ABs. If I had to pick one of the 3 to come back, I’d focus on Pagan. Giants have nobody to leadoff if he takes off; Blanco is not a starting leadoff guy. http://www.csnbayarea.com/baseball-san-francisco-giants/giants-talk/Free-agents-Scutaro-Affeldt-Pagan-keenly?blockID=795963&feedID=2539
Well, with anyone it’s what it will cost in years and bucks. My guesses on those 3:
Affeldt 2 years 6 million per
Scutaro 2 years 8 million per
Pagan 4 years 8 million per
Remember that there would have been rioting in the streets if Sabean hadn’t landed Huff after 2010.
I think they keep Affeldt, opt for Theriot over Scooter ( 5 years younger and he’ll be about 4 million per year cheaper). Scooter is great but when he reverts to his non-unconcious numbers, he won’t be worth what will take.
I think they’ll try but fail to land Pagan. He’s only 30, I feel pretty sure he’ll get the 4 years and that Sabean won’t go for it. The missing piece is Pence- if they don’t offer him arb, I think they’ll go full bore for Pagan. Don’t think they will keep both. So do we want Pence for one year or Angel for 4, maybe 3 ? OR: I’m wrongo on all..
didn’t we get Pence for 2013? so that is one worry out the window. Pagan? had a pretty unconscious season just like marco. Who has the dis-passion to see those two in the harsh light of “next year”?
I couldn’t get any decent pics except for ones of confetti raining down and a few pics of the random peeps on the cable cars and floats. Whoop-dee-do. Every other pic is of folks in front of me taking their own pictures. The irony is that the best Chronicle picture of Posey and his wife is the one where they’re riding idown Market by the Palace Hotel and the dude who was taking those was actually the main man who was in my way. But, all in all, I had a blast.
The bad news for me is that, because of the effects of Sandy, Halloween, the first of the month, and the parade I have about a week’s worth of work to get caught up on in the next day. Gahhh!
Bummer. What line of work are you in?
I’m a facilities/mail service supervisor and when the east coast get fucked by a big storm a lot of mail and package deliveries get delayed for days and then suddenly everything shows up all at once. Couple that with everyone in the office needing to catch up on shit as well because of the parade and things get pretty hectic–but it’s not stopping me from taking breaks and continuing the basking of 2012.
Shaman138 – what is the significance of the “138?” Are you a season ticket holder from Section 138?
First three years in the new yard I had seasons with my pal Mike in 138. We were row 24, seats 23 and 24 (on the aisle). Had to give up the seats…was right after my divorce and needed the money to buy a house…Great memories.
It’s from that Misfits song “We are 138”.
Ahhh…gotcha. Dig some Misfits.
Really great pics by the Flap Nation !!!!
That one pic of the Powell BART station looks like hell on earth–I’m sure it was worth it, though. I didn’t even bother trying to deal with getting home on Muni and just walked the 4-5 miles home in the drizzle. I arrived home tired and wet, but with my sanity intact.
Actually Sham, it wasn’t too bad. We got there pretty much right after the parade ended. The crowds were pretty cool, no pushing/shoving. The BART people actually were doing a good job; they let enough go through the ticket gates until the platforms below were full, then closed the ticket gates. Then, when a train came through and the platforms emptied, they then opened the ticket gates again to let the next portion through, and so on. For safety reasons on the stairs and platforms. And, they shut down (on purpose, I think, ha ha) the escalators to avoid falls, etc. and injury. Most everybody already had their tickets. All in all, a pretty good commentary on humanity, and everybody seemed to be in a good mood for the hassle of it all…
That’s cook, snarkk–guess it looks a lot worse than it actually was. As a regular commuter on the N Judah, I long for the days of timely and effective subway systems.
Err, cool, not cook.
The N-Judah used to be my line. Great memories living in SF as I am just a bay area boy. If I wasn’t on the trolley I rode a bike. Had two vehicles, a pickup and a car, and almost never drove them unless I was headed out of SF for the weekend or something.
Besides the obvious, one thing I’m really going to miss are the White Shark and the Brandon and Brandon blogs. Those were icing for me in this Championship season. Following those three young dudes experiences through this season was really fun for me. I’ve already looked twice to see if one of them had written about that plane ride home or just the win itself (they haven’t). I can only imagine the feeling of what that was like.
Bring on 2013, I’m feeling greedy.
Loved the way scooter was with the white shark in the group snap. Marco has to be a fine leader/mentor to the other players.
OK, I give, who is the man with the ring?
The owner of the Grizzlies was awesome.. He sat next to me, we shook hands – a little introduction – Him: Owner of the Grizzlies – Me: Just a huge fan who happened to get lucky with the seat I got because of someone I know, I’m nobody special.. I think he sensed that I was just a huge Giants fan.. He took off his ring (I didn’t ask) and handed it to me.. I put it on and he asked me to give him my iphone and he snapped a few pics of me with it on..
The dude was just awesome.. Put it this way, where we were seated he either had the option of talking to me, or to Ross Mirkarimi. . . I don’t think he had a choice 😉
As for the pic of Posey and his wife, my wife actually got a kick out of that too.. She mentioned to me that there was a girl on out USA gymnastics team who had a similar photo take of her (biting the inside of cheek) that went viral..
I just wish I had gotten one of Will Clark (my favorite player) but Snarkk took care of that. Great photos all around folks!
Chico, Snarkette #2 may actually have the copyright on that Will the Thrill shot. Not the greatest, but she had the little Canon in her hands while I hoisted her up (I’m sore today from that) and she clicked whatever she could. Will really got the crowd going while his car stopped. Waving arms, “Let’s Go Giants”, etc. He’s got the ‘ol recessed hairline going now, and a bit of a gut showing up — makes me feel old remembering that young guy yelling Fbombs winning the division back in ’87. But, time marches on. I’m glad he’s back as part of the organization. The belly is bigger, but there’s still fire in it…
Your daughter took a great pic! A month ago or so CSNBA had a special on Will Clark looking back at his playing days.. I was just flipping through the channels when I came upon it – I was glued to the TV. . I was 11 years old in ’87, but I have fond memories of that year thanks to my father who got me into baseball and the Giants. Just like his father introducing him to the game in the mid 50’s..
Off topic Snarkk, but Tedford needs to do the honorable thing and resign at the end of the season. He’s lost the program.
Chico, as a Cal fan and alum, I can easily agree Tedford has to go. He won’t quit, nobody does when they’re owed about $6 million over the next two years. The fat walleted alums just need to step up and take care of it. Real Bear fans know he needs to go, and we thank him for his service, he brought the program back from worse than nothing to great things mid-program, but has been going down hill the last 3-4 years. Time to move on. If they don’t let him go; that’s just another year that good prospects won’t come, because they’ll know he’s not going to be around soon. Why would you commit to a program knowing the HC will be gone when you’re a sophomore or junior, and you’ll have no clue who the new HC will be, and whether he would be good for your showcasing as a NFL prospect. I wonder if Greg Roman would do it — probably not, he might get offers for HC for NFL teams. But, Roman would sure be able to recruit some QBs and offensive players into Cal, and surely has good organizational skills to get the program back on an upswing. Roman’s recent time at Stanford with Harbaugh shows he understands the college game at a high level…
Agreed.. I post on BI from time to time.. I find that site has the best info from people “in the know” – Hopefully the donors come through… A buyout is nothing compared to what would happen if people don’t buy into the ESP thing next year.. Spending 300mm on Memorial had to be done. I see it as an investment into one of the most beautiful places in the country to watch a football game. I think getting Tedford out of there would be an investment to protect the bigger investment.. That’s a lot of dough on the line for a university facing brutal budget cuts… Spot on about the recruiting too. Couldn’t agree more.
Chico, is BI a Bear blog? Link?
I’ve seen/been on some, strikes me a lot of posters are pie in the sky youngsters, though the tone has been changing recently…
http://bearinsider.com/
Just go to the forums/chat area. . . For football it’s called “football growls”
You can keep track of all Cal sports there including olympic sports. There are chat boards for each sport, too.
This site is very diverse. The ages range from students to old blues. More old blues than students though.. It’s by far the best site/blog for all things Cal, including football.
Thanks Chico.
Yeah, I have been on that blog before, but not for a long time. I got my password sent and then rechanged it, so I can get back into the forums now. A while back, certainly over a year ago, I think I got temporarily banned from it or something for getting a little strong with some criticism of Tedford, and some “see no evil, hear no evil” Bear backers… 😉
Yeah, there were a lot of guys that got the boot because they were criticizing Tedford… Now, if you stick up for Tedford, you’re ridiculed.. How times change.. The ‘negabears’ were right all along.
great pic, I did notice the ring was not fitting and thought it might have been you!
excellent parade day, props to your friend.
Chico
It took me 20 seconds to get the damn thing off…. I started to panic there for a moment but did manage to get it off. If it went past the knuckle, I would have been fucked. “Anyone have any hand soap laying around”.
big smiles, thanks dude
Great stuff. Hard to absorb it all. But that’s a good challenge to have. Thank you, all.
Something not so great:
http://www.sfgate.com/sports/article/Dominican-former-Yankees-pitcher-slain-at-home-4000289.php
“Yankees pitcher” is not the first description that comes to mind.
And, I would be remiss were I not to mention that one of the first few cars in the parade had HacMan rockin inside. Anybody else see him? There was another guy with him, but I couldn’t see well enough to recognize him. It was cool for the Giants to recognize HacMan. I could do without a bunch of the ex mayors. I swear, I thought they were going to roll out the dead mayors after Frank Jordan’s car (they did have Mrs. Moscone in a car)…
and the comcast announcers, Vida Blue include_edd, gave the “one flap down” salute.
History, dead mayors and all, this was the parade to go to next year.
Loved the line by Mayor Lee, I was head of public works and I know about sweeping.
classic
As mentioned, I was torn. Civic Center or Parade Route. We opted parade route (3rd and Market), and I am happy with that decision. Next year…who knows…
Yeah, saw the parade on TV and I was happy to see hac man. Was waiting for Kevin Mitchell, but didn’t see him.
Any further word on the odd and conspicuous absence of Ryan Theriot owing to “family emergency”?
Haven’t seen anything out here yet. Hope whatever it is, it’s not super serious…
Heard Riot was absent due to a family emergency…hope all is well, whatever the incident.
I feel a lot like a hawk. Scanning to find other teams. They are like gulls, so plentiful, waiting, why git them now?
In August 2013 they will be so fat. Dare I be so brave?
Dare I feed on the fat of digital teams? Why not?
Would to name them now diminish the joy?
Fist pump, jump, losers
Re-post from Snarkk’s thread.
If you aren’t already convinced that Matt Cain is awesome then this vidoe should do it.

Watched it again…un-fucking-believable. Love it!
I grip to my bed
It is late night over here
my partner knows naught
she feels it and now!
Jason Stark video recap of the sweep. Pretty amusing, and pretty darn accurate. I wish this guy had a higher profile at ESPN. Instead, you have idiots like Schilling, and simple dolts like John Kruk blathering on. Asked about how the sweep happened, Kruk said: “The Tigers didn’t hit. But, give the Giants credit…”. Emphasis on the “but”. Tool…
http://espn.go.com/mlb/playoffs/2012/story/_/id/8568168/san-francisco-giants-second-world-series-title-three-seasons-rare-accomplishment-mlb
Stark is smart and witty.
I am not totally against Kruk, he bedded some fine women when a MLB player!
No disrespect to Mike Redmond, just hired as manager of the Marlins. But, he’s managed just two seasons of Class A ball in the Bluejays organization. Unless he told them to get lost, I find it weird that any team in MLB looking for a manager wouldn’t at least interview Wotus. The guy has been a bench coach in MLB for well over a decade. He’s now been directly involved in managing two WS champ teams, and been in on several years of stellar management of a pitching staff and pen that has been lights out. Why would you not even want to talk to a guy like that before choosing a new manager? Darth Al used to interview coaches from other teams that he knew he wouldn’t hire just to steal their information and ideas….
Isn’t a done deal he will be managing elsewhere next season?
I haven’t read that anywhere. Rocks are supposed to interview him, Blade can probably speak to that. But, the Rocks already have interviewed just about everybody but me, including Giambi. They’re so messed up, they’ll probably hire Giambi. If Wotus doesn’t get a managing job after this post-season, I don’t know if he ever will…
My only hope is that he runs that scumbag Miami baseball team right into the ground the way Valentine ran the Sox into the ground.
Wotus recently (not sure if it was the past off-season or 2 back) interviewed for the Bucs job. I have heard him say that, while he would like to manage, unless it is an ideal situation, he is not interested…that he is very happy in SF.
Also, Wotus managed in the Giants minor league system for 10 years, and was twice PCL manager of the year.
The dude definitely has the resume. I hope he sticks around. In addition to being “bench coach” he also coaches infield.
that is what I heard, Colorada, for a yeehaa Giants guy
You? Manage? Could you take the pay cut?
Still haven’t got my WS swag, it is going to come in waves and I am going to be waving “woo hoo Giants baseball”
I could go freak and get my name in the news, but that is not my style.
Come to think of it, two WS wins in 3 years is not anyone’s style; maybe I should go for it?
So all these great photos and none of Jose Mijares and his girlfriend? Damn.
I have one Bozo… You can get my email addy from Flav.. I’ll send it to you.
You are the man.
She definitely won Best Breasts. Or if you’re a leg or ass man, largest anyway.
I noticed. But that’s my predilection.
They might to let Affeldt go to keep Jose but it’s for the common good, I’d say.
I probably have one on my camera…if I do, I’ll send ya a copy, John. Not sure I have your email. Get mine from BF, too.
Loving the pics, guys. I couldn’t snap a good pic yesterday for shit but I was there and in spite of the crowds and having to walk home in the rain due to the suckiness of Muni, it was well worth it.
well, as long as you didn’t burn down a Muni bus, fine…
Yeah, shaman, what was up with that last night with MUNI? I expected it to suck in the morning but not the P.M. I waited over an hour in the rain and missed taking my extended family niece trick-or-treating. She stayed up waiting for me anyway, though. Very cute as Zombie Katy Perry. I can only see edd’s pictures here at work, the others are blocked. I’ll have to wait till I get home. Looking forward, gents
Yeah, I left for work an hour early, ate a big breakfast, and got to work with plenty of time to spare. I knew it’d be fucked in the evening so I didn’t even bother–just walked out of the office on to Market and just kept walking until I got home. It was actually fun seeing the decorated houses and kids trick-or-treating along the way. It started to really come down by the time I got home and I was so tired that I just stayed home for the night. No big loss–I like Day of the Dead in the Mission (happening tomorrow night) a lot better anyway
This is pretty cool . . .

BTW, Huff offer declined, being paid off for 2 mil.
Oh well.
We’ll always 2010
NO!…
Don’t want to ignite a Fangraphs or Huff storm but his “win value” in 2010 was 24.8 million, behind only Pujols, Votto, and Miggy Cabrera among 1st basemen. Last year it was MINUS 1.7 million. This year it was minus 0.5. So by my math using Fangraph “Win Value”, they’ve paid him 27 million counting the buy out and he was worth 22.6 over the 3 years. So they lost $4.4 milion.
That new math fucked me up every time! I’ll take your word on it, Michael.
Clearly Sabean came up a winner for getting Huff’s production and team inspiration for only $3 million in 2010. However the Sabre stats can be computed, obviously Huff didn’t come close to earning the $22M contract covering 2011-2012. Wherever the net value ends up for the three years of Huff, he’ll be fondly remembered for 2010. But, time for the Giants to say thanks, good-by, and see you at the 10-year championship (2010) re-union. He should feel more than a bit sheepish when he puts on the 2012 ring — he didn’t do much to earn it…
he did look a bit sheepish coming out at city hall, already!
maybe he should have had a sign w/ red thong: remember 2010!
The Fangraph figures look totally reasonable, IMO. And I don’t know of anyone who thinks he should be back. But if we’re taking rings away from guys who we think didn’t earn them in 2010 and 2012, maybe I can get one- I’m a world class rooter.
Nobody’s taking away rings, or asking for that. Shit, they give a ring to Renel.
But, I would venture to guess Huff will wear his 2010 ring more proudly than the 2012…
I hear he’s going to wear it on a toe as a sexual stimulant.
sounds like it worked, are you stimulated?
🙂
Ed, thanks for the E-Mails.I’ll explore Windows 8 slowly. For now I’m just running it as 7. Obviously Microsoft figured on that- it’s almost like running the parallel Windows for Macs without the cool revolving screen..
Yeah, I tried it back a few months ago. I think win8 may push win7 into Xp type longevity.
I love XP and maybe it is my lack of savy on a Win box…but so far, I am not a fan of Win7…Win 8…give me a fucking break…
Huff told both tales of his 2010/2012 seasons at each of the last 2 parades. In 2010 he was a rockstar, running all over the stage with a thong held triumphantly above his head as the crowd went wild.
In 2012 he came dressed casually, tossed a few high fives and sat down.
Both years he nailed it.
Absolutely, he stayed well in the background this year.
I noticed that, and the same for Wilson, more or less, sort of. To be honest, I’ll tip my cap on that. I can’t say I always have the right “social regard,” if that’s the right term. (Hey, Magnus, I’m maybe two-thirds through with my chapter on 2012. It will need your review as a reality check, as in, where the feck did you go after I got your blessing to buy the scalped ticket? I’m still confused! Were you w/ me at the ATM? My hands are still shaking. p.s. I’m glad you’re six foot six.)
Upon reflection, Renel had a better year than Huff…
Without the Facenda Voice Transplant, Renel has no chance of acceptance. Or the Kate Longworth body transplant..
SF Giants, still “YOUR 2012 WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS”
YESSIRREEBOB!!
WTG my freakin’ team, I know my dad is up there with a big smile.
My 15yo daughter and I both observed simultaneously that the so-called investors on the stage, presumably the richest, were the worst-dressed. They looked like they came over from the trailer park. It wasn’t even shabby chic. (It was, though, VERY gratifying to see Mr. “Bow Tie” Neukom.)
next to Mrs. Baer, whom I seem to have a thing for *blush*, he was my favorite. In my pics there is a ‘Mr. and Mrs. Bowtie’
I don’t remember if I shared the link on the 10 richest baseball owners.
Numero Uno – Charles Johnson – of YOUR San Francisco Giants. Estimated worth – 4.9 Billion (cue Dr. Evil voice).

BTW, where is Zumie? we gotta stay on him to organise the flapper group ticket experience. I will be at ST in march, avec vous tous?
Edd – you should have my email from the Stable Boys emails…if we don’t get a group thing together, call me with exact dates…and I will make sure we take in a game together.
Zumie?
Edddddd, when can we expect you to start speaking in tongues again?
I thought he has been… 😉
Me too… 😉
Just before turning in and saying good night to you girls, let me remind you today is the sweet anniversary of The First Time. (I’ve been tired for a week; am I the only one so wrung out?)
Nov 1 2010 – Oct 28 2012
how sweet it is
I cannot believe it, 4 days later and I am still tired in the evening and waking up at 1am
Go Giants!
Reports out there that SF will not make qualifying offers to Pagan, Scutaro and Affeld. Admittedly I don’t know the ins and outs of MLB payrolls but why wouldn’t the Giants make qualifying offers at least hoping to get compensation picks? I suppose they could sign them before the deadline but that seems unlikely.
word was they _never_ gave any offer to beltran; just let him move on.
The Giants are still said to be wanting to sign all 3. As expected, Pagan would be the toughest to keep, there will be a lot of interest. According to Killion, Affeldt wants a multiyear. Henry says Scutaro is the most likely to sign quickly. All this is from MLBTR..
Affeldt – give him 2 for 12…14 if he pisses and moans…
Plus I have my Broken Headed-Rich Aurilia Bobblehead and some other of my Giants gear coming soon.
woohoo UK? it is Giants and it is real
edd – Besides being my idol, I’m pretty sure you’ve reached God status, in my eyes at least.
Cheers my man!
From World Series Championship parade to:
the Memphis Grizzlies in to play the Dubs. Ouch…
Don’t be too down on them- good shot to make the playoffs this year according to Steinmetz, hardly a polly type. I watched the Suns game- a win on the road with Curry and Lee going 4 for 30 is a nice start..
As long as Curry can stay healthy for more than a week, it’s a good possibility.
KNBR now playing an hour’s worth of 2012 and post season highlights…
Night girls…gotta go get some much needed rest…all this basking is wearing my ass out….
What? No Barry Bonds in the parade? (kidding)
Awesome awesome photos, folks! Great stuff.
My bask is in full-on non-stop mode.
Too early to look at next season’s schedule? Ah, of course not. The roadtrip that just kind of jumps out at ya is in late September when the Giants play the Mets and then the Yankees.
And, of course, how cool is it that the Giants will be getting their rings during a Cardinals series in April? Well, the Cardinals, if they wanted to, could take that as a good omen for themselves, because the Giants got their 2010 rings during a Cardinal series in 2011, and then the Cardinals, of course. went on to win the World Series that year.
I’ve already downloaded my schedule for 2013 and added it to my diary.
Every time I look at the photos, and I could do this forever, the one that doesn’t fit is wilson. I know this word has been bandied about before, but imo it is an *act*. It’s something he does consciously to set himself apart from everyone else and be noticed. Same in the dugout.
Hey , it’s his own trip, and whatever anyone thinks of it is completely irrelevant to him, I’m sure, but the idea that he can’t go unnoticed is not an accident.. Maybe it’s the old Haight thing, where the “freaks” would hold up mirrors to the tour buses from iowa going through the hood.
And?
with affeldt, lopez, romo, casilla, mijares and kontos, did you miss him this year?
That’s not relevant to your comment at all, Willie. Even pro athletes have a right to be “different” and have an “act”. Sergio’s act on Wednesday would be even cooler, IMO, if spoke out about the law, What he said:
“Am I for it? Not necessarily. Am I against it? Not necessarily.”
As to missing him, Wilson is 171 for 196 in SVO, 87%. If he does leave, I think we’ll need a little longer to see how his successor(s) work out.
The “freaks” are still in the Haight, believe it or not–older and not so wiser. So, IMO, it’s not really an “old” thing and is part of what helps the neighborhood stand apart from, say, Cole Valley…and Wilson’s “act” is cool with me–that’s part of what makes our Giants stand apart from the rest of the stiffs in MLB.
Edd – do you have exact dates when you will be at Spring Training (assuming your ST in your post at 7:33 PM)?
should be Mar 14 – 21 as my mom’s b-day is the 16th
I looked at the package from SF Giants that includes a dinner with the players, but as a single traveler and with the experience I have booking my visits I can go for half. I miss the dinner though.
never saw a stable boys email.
You can get my email address from Flavor. We’ll keep in touch. I don’t have specific dates yet, but my daughter and I will be going to ST, and it would be awesome to meet you there.
I saw the schedule and am already planning on being in NY the week the Giants are there in September….why not? Good weather, games with probable playoff implications, and baseball in NYC.
I can definitely see Wilson not returning because of the money. On the other hand, I really don’t believe he’d have been in the dugout not only doing his act, but so vocally supporting his teammates if he didn’t think he was coming back.
But here’s what he’s said about being a teammate;
““Being around their story has been encouraging, and being a part of their trials and tribulations this year has given me strength. I’ve been more involved with other people, and the further I stray from myself and focus on my teammates, the better off my proverbial self gets.”
Preacher Pence said: ” “He pumps me up every day. I’m serious. His mentality feeds into us. When I say he pumps me up, he gets me locked in. That’s the main thing. He’s affected me majorly.”
From everything I’ve seen and heard, his teammates like his act..
My guess is they do not offer him arbitration, and then try to sign him later for a lesser price.
Minimal offer would have to be at least 6.8 million (80% of last year’s salary).
Given that he has less than six years of ML service, the team can decline to offer him arbritration, but still negotiate with him.
How hiw elbow responds as he heals, can throw, etc. will drive a whole lot of this.
Agreed. I’m sure they respect his work ethic and commitment. I also think that whatever he does they figure is just wilson being wilson, which is far removed from *manny being manny*. I’m just at the point where anything he says and does puts me into yawn/ignore mode.
Until he is actually playing.
“Rhode Island’s economic development agency on Thursday sued former Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling and some of its former officials, saying they committed fraud and other acts that misled the state into approving a $75 million loan guarantee to his failed video game company”
http://t.foxsports.msn.com/mlb/rhode-island-sues-curt-schilling
What was that line from Vogelsong at the City Hall celebration…something like you’re going to jail, sucker?
“You’re going to jail, now!” From a viral YouTube where this woman is being a dumbass, and the bus driver ends up giving her an upper-cuty (you can hear the punch on the video)…I don’t condone men hitting on women…just saying that is the source of the line. So, I believe his comment was that they gave the other teams a stiff upper-cut….
I read a bleacher report commentary suggesting the Giants made a mistake not making a qualifying offer to Pagan, since the offer would have to be 13.3M for a year, but he would reject it anyway since he’ll get multi-year offers on the FA market, and the Giants would still be able to negotiate a multi-year deal with him. Upshot: Giants lose out on the potential draft pick for no good reason if they can’t sign him. Seems like a fair assessment. Anybody have any ideas otherwise?…
I thought the same thing and posted on it last night. Doesn’t make sense to me. The more picks SF can acquire the better.
Anyone think that 2 World Series championships in 3 years has any affect on the FA market? Players sitting at home watching SF sweep Detroit have to be impressed. Not a hitters pak. Whatever? With the same staff coming back and a core of young players in place the chances of a return to the post season are good. The fans are awesome. Whate else could a player want? I guess we’ll see who wants a shot at winning.
Actually, by not offering him a qualifying offer they made Pagan MORE appealing to other teams (since they now don’t have to give up a draft pick) thus furthering the likelihood that he will sign a better deal somewhere else….
I’m ok with Pagan leaving. I think he performs best when he’s motivated, like in a contract year….
Scoots, I definitely want back on a 2 year deal.
Affeldt, same thing…….
Bee-Wheezy? As long as they non-tender him and bring him back for a couple mil a year (with lots of incentives) I’m fine with that. No WAY do I give Wheezy 6.2 million. Either way, Romo is much cheaper and I think he’s going to be great next year…….
You think SF will target Bourne? He’s younger and Sabean has made not secret of his interest and he often telegraphs his FA moves. I think Belt in his second year will make up for the bombs lost with Pagan and Bourn is younger. He potentially blocks Brown but maybe they intend to just plug Brown into CF and look for a LF with pop.
I’m leery of Bourn and hope we DO NOT sign him. He’s 29, I don’t like the idea of giving big speed guys big deals as they are about to leave their 20’s.
bourne would look like an alternative to Pagan and if he came on board brown would be traded
I agree on all the above. You hear all the chatter about the coin coming off the books (and this IS true). Giants are committed to $80.03 mil next year.
But not only is it the free agents (like Scoots, Pagan, Affeldt, etc.), but the others who are AE (Wilson just one of them).
Others who are arbitration eligible and their current salaries:
Casilla – 2.2 M
Romo – 1.575 M
Buster – 615 K
Blanco – 516 K
Hensley – 750 K
All except Hensley are no-brainers, and all will probably get a raise.
I would try like hell to buy out Buster’s arbitration years (through 2016)…he is FA-eligible in 2017. What kind of coin would it take to get that done? 5 years 75 million? 100 million?
For all of Wilson’s supposed schtick, what these guys on the team see is a guy who is busting his ass to get back out on the field of play as fast as he possibly can. A guy who supports the team the only way he can. By being there. Sure, he faded into the background this year, and rightly so. To call attention to himself while not really doing anything but cheerleading would be heavy-handed. Even for him. I think he understands that.
Dirt, if anything appeals to FA players, it’s Hunter Pence. Here’s a guy who came in and didn’t really do a hell of a lot, but he was immediately accepted as one of their own. Every time he talked about the team, he talked about how great the clubhouse is, and how much fubn it was to play for this organization. Same with Scutaro.
I think this year brought it inot even more focus, especailly with the packed house game after game all year. Power hitters may still balk at coming here, unless they are dead pull righties, but still and all, players see what is going on and have to be somewhat jealous. 2 rings in 3 seasons, packed stadium, loving fans, and living in SF? Shit, where’s the downside? You miss a few home runs?
If Tommy Lasorda had somehow ended up here, he would have weighed in at 500 lb every spring training.
When Scoots initially was traded, he was bumbed, and was talking about how he really wanted to get back to Colorado next year. Didn’t take long for that tune to change…he has empatically said he wants to be back with the Giants next year. I say offer him 2 at 15.
Or even 2 at 12…(same salary as this year).
I think Wilson is 100% schtick but I think that’s just for attention. That wouldn’t make him a bad teammate necessarily. And based off what Twin posted earlier I think it’s clear that his teammates love him, schtick or no schtick.
Wilson seems like the one guy on the team that Lincecum connects with. They probably hit the gravity bong together or something. I would like to see Wilson back.
Gravity bong?
Duuuude, I’m out of touch . . .
Now they have ‘vaporizers’ chuck.. Seriously, the pot smoking industry has been more innovative in the last decade than the tech industry.
I want to see Wilson back, too…but not at the minimum AE figure (6.8 million). So, non-tender him, and negotiate a lower rate. You know he wants to be back here…
I understand that Wilson rubs some the wrong way.And I don’t dispute that he a has a schtick- my thought on that part is simple- “so what?”. By all accounts, as Chuck notes, he’s busting his ass to get back. He’s always been known as one of the most physically fit players, we all know he’s a tough competitor, he loves his teammates and they seem to love him- I have zero problem if he’s weird or whatever. Whether he will or should be back is an altogether different matter. I hope he proves to be healthy and does return. Romo was great, I just have doubts about him as *the* guy.
Yeah, anyone who throws 80% sliders is destined for at least times where the slider don’t slide, and blammo. It’s a very touch pitch on the arm, and even at one inning per, I’m not positive Romo can hold up over the long haul. I mean shit, he’s smaller than Timmy.
As far as Wilson goes, you know he’d love to stay. His antics wouldn’t fly in most other cities or clubhouses.
Not sure I shared this…read it the other day. Some good press from ESPN (although Keown did previously write for The Chron).
http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/8573782/giants-played-smart-not-lucky-baseball-win-title
Gotta think Sabean and Evans know what they are doing with regards to Pagan. Perhaps this means they ARE going to make an honest effort to keep him and didn’t want to publicly place a $13m a year tag on him.
I would tend to agree with ya, Salt. If there is one thing I have learned over the years, Sabean is one smart son-of-a-bitch. Sure, he has made his bad deals (who doesn’t, really). Overall, I think he is one of the more crafty GMs in the business today.
Love the photo album in these spaces.
Was thinking; Wilson. NOT wearing Black&Orange. Something I could see myself doing, just to be fecking different.
Love Pagan. I do.
But maybe B.J. Upton??
