Winter Snoozings……
Jesus, talk about a boring week of nothing happening (at least, regarding trades). Did a single relevant swap even go down? I see Upton might get dealt in a block buster. Eh, uninspiring. He’s supposedly been about to get traded for months now…….
This week would have been more interesting if the GM’s had sat in a circle and written haiku’s to each other……
Easily the most boring Winter Meetings I can ever remember…..
The steaks and the strippers must have been a churnin’ and a burnin’ this week in Nashville…….
I thought this reference was interesting:
Prominent agent Scott Boras touched on the Giants bullpen during his annual briefing with reporters on Wednesday, saying it was an anomaly for a club to succeed without a stable, established presence in the closer role.
Well Mr. Boras. welcome to BochyBall..
Scott Bor-ASS can go fuck himself. Fucking dickweed asshole.
Well-said, Sir.
I’m sure ownership put him at the head of the speed dial when Boras also mentioned that having the A’s in San Jose would be good for baseball. Like I said on the last thread, if none of his clients are signed this year, I would be laughing my ass off.
What an asshole BorASS is. By the by, I still think that Bourn doesn’t sign until January and possibly spring training. Why? All due to Mr BorASS’s bedside manner.
Seems Greinke holding things up.
Just for fun

On the MLB network, Verducci graded the baseball meetings this year as a C-.
I think the MLB network did a pretty good job of trying to find interesting things to say during the meetings. It was easy to sense their disappointment in the Dodgers and Yankees for being so low-key during the meetings. The network was hoping for fireworks from those two teams.
The Mariners and the Padres are two more teams caving in, and are moving their fences in. And yet, the Giants have won the World Series 2 out of the last 3 years without changing their ballpark; but rather, by building a team to take advantage of their “pitcher’s park.” The Giants buck the trend, and win the rings.
I had noticed that too, Zumie…love it. It is pretty amazing that once Sabean and crew were shed of Bonds, and could truly clear the decks and build the team they wanted for our yard, they did so in a very determined and kick-ass fashion. And as you noted, the results…2 rings in 3 years, baby!
I think sometimes about many of the “Lunatic Fringe” that frequented The Splash, who continually wanted Sabean’s head on a stick, and wonder what tune they are singing now (I rarely frequent the Splash any more – at least not the comments on the blog).
I think if you could measure whose fans are the happiest about what has happened this week, it would have to be the Giants fans, because of the Giants re-signing Pagan and Scutaro. Is any other fan-base as pleased this week? Sure, we were basking already, anyway, but this just added to the bask!
Are Red Sox fans all fired up because the team signed Victorino? I doubt it.
I know a couple of Red Sox fans and they are livid about the Victorino signing. They got a “get out of jail” free card when the Dodgers decided to take on all their dead salaries and they start the *new world* by signing a washed up Victorino and Napoli? Underwhelming…….
I agree. I don’t listen to KNBR that much (usually on the drive coming to work or going home when I am in my truck), and they had a little piece this morning to the effect (and I paraphrase):
First there was Crazy Horse the Lakota chief, then there was the Crazy Horse bachelor parties, and now there is El Caballo loco! Welcome back Angel Pagan!
Or something like that (the el Caballo Loco part is in Jon Miller’s voice).
Anyway, it made me smile and I got my bask on for Friday, BIG TIME.
I am fricking estatic that Sabean, Evans and crew were able to bring back Pagan and Scoots. Yeah, it is for longer than most wanted (me included), but again…given the landscape of FAs, they were our best two options.
I am jacked and ready for some baseball. I have my hotel and airline dialed-in for Spring Training. Individual game tickets go on sale January 10th. GIDDY UP!
Flav, I’m not certain you saw my response to your question about the FL pay league a couple of days ago . . . Yes, let’s do a league where we both draft against each other. However, I had a couple of questions for you with regard to whether the league web site had a test button to see if my tablet would suffice for a draft (i.e., I indicated that I am planning an around the globe trip in mid January through part of May and consequently, I wont have my pc, nor Mac Pro laptop with me – which I know would both handle the test). Also, I asked if you needed the money now or would I handle that with the league (probably the latter I am imagining). Anywho, let me know.
You’d have to poke around at the site I don’t know. Nfbc.stats.com
You have an iPad? If so, it worked fine for me last year as far as moving players around etc. That’s how I ended up with Sandoval in the 1st round. I had played around with it a little bit and then forgot about it. The draft came around and it stayed in place. So I was wrong about Sandoval being the regular season MVP and he ended up as WS MVP. So what?
Dirt, no – I have a Samsung Galaxy 7″ Plus, with Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) 4.2 operating system and 1.3 ghz. dual core Samsung processor. It was one of the fastest processor’s on the market when I bought it last year and I played FL basketball with it while I was back packing in S. and C. America, but I didn’t use it for the draft (I was home when that occurred). Anywho, I need to poke around the site Flav gave me.
With the Phils picking up Ben Revere from the Twins, teams looking for a CFer just narrowed some more. Good luck Mr Bourn, be sure and get your agent a swell Christmas gift.
this could backfire in Boras’ face. Just like last year when Madson had a 4 year/40 mil deal on the table from the Phils but he waited too long and they yanked it and he had to take a 1 year deal from Cincy. I get why he’s being patient, this is his one (and final) chance to score a huge deal. I still think he’ll sign before Christmas……
So, speaking of winter snoozings . . . This is off -topic, but I found it hilarious because I love boxing and Muhammad Ali.
http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/boxing/nfl-great-jimmy-brown-quickly-gave-idea-fight-070258768–box.html
Thanks for the link. Loved the part where Ali and Brown meet in the park, and Ali tells Brown to him him as hard as he can (and he cannot even hit him), and Ali subsequently pops him with a quick combination…talk of a fight was off at that point…LMAO.
Printed the linked article on Arum…will read it later. I used to love boxing back in the day (Ali, etc.), but it has flat out sucked of late. The fight I (and everyone) wants to see (Manny vs. Mayweather) probably never happens. I fucking cannot stand Mayweather and wanted to see Pacquiao whoop Floyd’s ass, SO BAD!
Yeah, I laughed at the same part Chi. Ali demonstrated that he would have cleaned Brown’s clock.
Yep, right about Pacquiao whipping Mayweather’s ass as well. Floyd’s a wuss and I can’t believe this fight of the decade is being held up because of what he says is money (he’s lying in my mind . . . He’s just flat out scared of Pacquiao).
Yeah, even through the 80s with Tomnmy Hearns, Ray Leonard, and Marvin Hagler. The Hagler/Hearns fight is still one of my all-time favorites.
Agree…I loved boxing back in those days. Outside of Pacquiao and a few others, the sport is a farce now….and too many sleazy promoters. Back in the day it was fucking awesome. Loved seeing Ali and Frazier going toe-to-toe, etc.
Chuck, I agree…those Hearns, Hagler, and Sugar Ray fights were kick-ass, too!
Don’t forget Duran (albeit, I am still pissed at him for the NO MAS fight) . . . It was the big 4 back then.
Yeah. the Duran Leonard fights were fun. The hagler hearns fight though was amazing. Mike Tyson never had anyone to stand up to him in his prime, but he was the last heavyweight that resemebled anything like the boxers in the heydays of boxing. Now, it’s all a joke.
Holy shit. Just wandered out into the waters of The Splash. There are a few knowledgeable folks there with good comments…but holy fuck…there are some absolute dumb asses out there, too.
By the by (stole this from Steve…I like it)…where has Twin been? Haven’t seen him here in some time…not to mention some of the other regular Flappers. Maybe they’re just taking some time off and laying low during the off-season.
Yeah, Twin hasn’t been around for a few days? I have his number – should I call (Flav please advise).
Chi, stop stealing my material. Not like I’m frickin’ Loo and have an abundance of it. 🙂
lqtm…
I’ve been around- spreading the love on Chuck’s site. He loves it when I talk dirty to him.I’ve been laid up for over a week, complications from the hernia surgery. I did take yesterday off, so to speak, went to the hospital. All the surgeries and procedures and the hernia has been the worst, pain and post-op wise…now what was it we were talking about? Oh yeah, Alex Smith… did Sabes re-sign him yet?
Thanks for asking.
How is it now? Are you feeling better? A friend of mine had that operation and it was excruciating pain for a couple of weeks. Hope your post op isn’t that bad Mike.
It was awful for a few days-there’s waaaaay more info than anyone wants to hear- I’ll just say that It then seemed fine but I got an infection. Trying a new round of antibiotics now. Will anyone be bothered if I make a brief shout to the Big Guy? “ENOUGH, ALREADY!” Thanks.
Ok, back to my regular bitching…
OK, you’re normal . . . 😉
Love? Well yer certainly spreading something around over there . . .
And yeah, glad to hear you are on the mend. . .
Good to see ya here…I need to get over to Chuck’s site more often. I love the Niners…just have a hard time getting as amped about football as I do for baseball…
Wishing you a speedy and full recovery, Twin…
Cody the clown wants 3/25? Yowza . . .
He’s fucking insane. The only way that makes sense in my mind Chuck, is if he stays with Boston (or a similar band box park).
So glad we didn’t bring him back. I am quite appreciative of what Cody did for us, but he played out of his mind insofar as the outfield, not hurting us. However, he is a mediocre outfielder and I think the Phone park would have eaten him up if we had signed him this year.
WTF…If Cowboy Cody has been doing rodeo clown shit in the offseason, I think he may have landed on his fucking head one too many times…
Tell him that whateverthehell he is smoking, to pass some this way…
Good to hear all is ok TF. Guess we’ll have to sign you to an incentive deal for 2013 😉
My present deal is already pretty incentive laden, Salty…BTW, if may ask in good cheer:
who the fuck are you 😉
Seriously, I love your posts, are you an ex-lurker who decided to join in? You don’t have to ansewer, just idly wondering. You quickly became a favorite, of everyboby here, I’d think..
Thanks!
I second that…Salty brings some good spice to the mix.
During my winter snooze I got to wondering if Arias could platoon with Blanco (he’s only played one inning of LF before).
Which also got me wondering if the Rangers kick themselves in the head everyday when they remember they turned down Cano and opted for Arias in the ARod trade (no offense, Joaquin),
Hey, however he got here, Joaquin carried the team for about 2 weeks in September. And he beat out Rolen’s bobble in the 10th inning of the first playoff win vs Cincy.
It was August, but no big deal- and even when he didn’t hit he gave them good defense ar third, acceptable “D” at SS.If they re-sign Theriot, that’s a good pair backing up the infielders. With the way Crawford came on and if Pablo stays healthy, Joaquin will have a tough time getting playing time, That’s good.
I guess I wasn’t clear on my thoughts. My first thought was that I wondered if Arias could be the right handed bat that would platoon with Blanco, even though he’s only played one inning in the OF. This would also give Arias more playing time.
My second thought had to do with how Texas got him, not the Giants. Texas was offered Cano in the Arod trade and they turned that down for Arias instead. I’d imagine Texas wishes they had gone with Cano. You don’t agree?
Nats getting pretty aggressive with their pitching staff. If Dan Haren bounces back that staff is downright scary.Strasburg,Gonzalez,Zimmerman,Haren and Detwiler can match our own and could even be better.
I thought the Nats were loaded last year, and going in would not have been surprised to see them in the WS. Was equally surprised to see the Cards eliminate them.
I mentioned a few threads back that I was watching the WS video (taped off of ESPN), and it still amazes me all the minefields the Giants had to navigate to win each series before clicking an pounding Detroit. What a story…I’m still in full-on bask mode!
I just watched an entire 2nd half of Warrior basketball. It was laborious. But actually a pretty good game. Green is a keeper.
Yeah, Boras seems to think he’s relevant, doesn’t he. Love this quote, about trying to convince Baer that the Giants need a closer: “As I told Larry, ‘You better make some right moves. You don’t want to be a guy that’s not being known as a winner.’ ” …. If he was joking, that makes him only marginally less stupid than if he wasn’t. And to top it off, he was pitching Valverde to SF? Life on Planet Boras must be very lonely.
I enjoyed the game, too. You’re right about Green. Gotta be impressed with the W’s so far. They may not even need Bogut to make the playoffs.
Pagan and Scutaro on Chron live
at 8 pm
December 1 has been as late in the season to even bother watching over the last few years. What a difference in their bench.
Yeah, love the additions of Landry and Jack.
They’d be idiots to rush bogut. i also think they should be resting curry more. Bochy did a great job with posey and jax needs to do the same. this year is intriguing but it’s probably not THE year. be careful. be cautious. be healthy next year.
