Voggy’s Replacement Getting Named Soon
Bochy says he’s going to wait until after Sunday’s game to declare a starter for Tuesday as a replacement for Voggy. That makes sense. See if the starters get chewed up this weekend. If the bullpen doesn’t take too much of a hit they could roll with Gaudin and then decide what to do in the days after that start. If the bullpen does get used a lot this weekend, it’s likely we’ll see Kickham make his major league debut on Tuesday. Santiago needing surgery has complicated this possibility of turning to Gaudin as the starter.
Even if Gaudin gets the start on Tuesday I’d be surprised if he got more than one. We need a solution that lasts at least 2 months, maybe longer, and Chad Gaudin is not the solution. But if he starts on Tuesday that gives Sabean more time to evaluate all the options—and really, at this point, if they dip into Fresno they’re deciding on Kickham or Loux. Do they want to go with the young prospect or the boring vet?
We’re talking about the #5 so it’s not as critical as everyone is making it out to be. However, if Timmy doesn’t start pitching better than a #5 and if Zito starts pitching at home the way he’s pitching on the road then we are now looking at three #5’s and you can’t win a division with three gaping holes in your starting rotation…….
holyshit holymackerel holygigantes!!!!!!!!
Giants 6, Colorado and Umpires 5 . . .
BIG win for my GIANTS!!!! Real big!
. And SU w/ 7 secs left. Exciting game. Leading 9-8.
Hot Damn! Really? Shit, I don’t even know jack about Lacrosse, but I am becoming a convert. 🙂
And congrats Pawlie/Blade: Syracuse wins, Denver loses.
In all seriousness, IMO this is the template that Colorado will be using more and more as the season goes on (see my 3:19pm). Nevertheless, this game was big for both clubs . . . It could have been a big, big confidence builder for the Colorado team. Instead, it will cause angst back in Denver and really question whether they are ready for prime time with that pitching staff.
Did you see that? Just as dramatic as the Giants comeback. Within a matter of seconds, two stunning reversals. SU vs. Duke on Monday. I know some who will go to the game. Crazy. Jojo Marasco, very popular player, was SU’s Angel Pagan.
I just read the article about the Syracuse game . . . Great win by them Pawlie.
in shock
wat a luverly run about the basepaths
the team should get some uplift from that even if the noise is drowning out Tony.
I’ve yet to see the Pagan footage. But I’ll find it. Oh, I’ll find it all right. Did he salute???
The TV feed from Colorado – it seemed like the Rockies announcers were surprised that it was even a possibility. They weren’t even focusing on Angel running the basepaths – he basically came into the picture at home plate at the last second. I think the play caught the camera guy by surprise. Unfrickin’ believable play.
After a face first slide to the dugout side, his big gloved hand crossing the width of the plate, Angel Pagan bounced up to be mobbed by his team. As the group moved back towards the dugout they passed close to a Comcast camera and The Admiral gave a salute.
Watching, you could easily see that the effort of the last ninety feet, in true Pagan style, had taken everything he had to give. It was the salute of a man weakened from exertion, given from the heart – executed for the fans.
Pagan’s game-winner transported me back to a Giants-Phils game I went to at the vet in 2000. Phils won 2-1 in the 10th on an inside-the-park homer by Bobby Abreu. Crushing way to lose, but then again it was a pretty damn exciting finish.
Awesome. And totally cool seeing Vungo being the first one out to hug Pagan. Our three CFers have all had some big hits and this was the biggest. Beautiful.
The footage thrilled me.
I get a kick (mixed with mild annoyance) at the ESPN playoff possibility % they post, as estimated by Coolstandings.com. Means absolutely zero, as we, the defending World Champions, know. It is nonsense. Their algorithim must consist of Cracker Jacks and dice. They give these playoff percentages as of THIS VERY MOMENT:
AZ 55.7, SF 28.6, COL 62.6. Really? Honestly? LAD 1.9.
Colorado will be hurting tomorrow – they used 7 pitchers total today. This cumulative stress on the bullpen is just beginning. I hope our line up can do some damage early tomorrow.
Also, this is the 3rd defeat (maybe the 4th time????) of the Rockies by us where we came from behind to beat them. That has to get into their head.
Chico, I’ve replied to your comments on my blog.
First walkoff inside-the-park HR since 2004 and latest for first an inside the parker in a season since 1996 — sez ESPN. First by a walkoff inside-the-park HR by a Giant since Bill Terry in 1931! [Elias]
My favorite thing was Flan almost beating Angel home, and his celebration.
that was total joy
that was the spirit that powers our team.
Watching Angel, Gregor, and Andres run is a treat in itself. Angel doesn’t appear as fast as he is, he’s built heavier than the other guys, he runs more like a running back, maybe Marshawn Lynch with more speed. Blanco would be that scat back type- the guy you want to get “in space”, LaMichael James. Might as well stick with football, Vungo is a tough one- he runs more like the track man he used to be. And he’s almost meticulous. I’m going to go with Devin Hester…
Yeah, Bozo, always entertaining to watch Flannery. He might send some runners occasionally when he probably shouldn’t, but mostly, you gotta love the aggressive thinking AND the way he ushers the runner all the way home. Great fun. And yeah also, Michael, this outfield is fun to watch run. Of course.. if this one wasn’t a win, it wouldn’t feel as fun, but overall…. a very fun team.
“Amazing ride on the team train today…..very humbled to still run with bulls…” – Tim Flannery FB post.
I’m sure ya’ll saw that Derek Lowe was released a couple days ago. Not sure if he was discussed here. Is he truly done? Getting released usually indicates that… just wondering…
I always liked Derek Lowe and I don’t really know why–never owned him, never rooted for him and I never believed he did his best work sans steroids.
But he always seemed to be an *EveryMan* type of guy who played his ass off every game he went out there, often without his best stuff, not often enough during the cycles that many thought he was on….
He made 110 million in his career, now that I think about it, FUCK *EveryMan*,, lol
But seriously, if he never throws another pitch I’ll always respect and remember Lowe and David Wells and I didn’t think of David Wells until I started typing this sentence–nothing to do with each other, just 2 dudes who I liked, a lot. Gamers. Both of them.
I always liked David Wells too Flav. Him and Rod Beck just seemed like guys I could hang with while sucking down some beers. I loved when Wells bought a game worn Babe Ruth hat (huge BR fan) and wore it out on the mound during his warm-up pitches, while he was with the Yanks. Umps made him remove it because it wasn’t a regulation hat. I hope Wells responded that it was in 1927.
Yeah, me too, tough competitor, I liked him with Boston and Atlanta… I tend to forget the LA stint. When I heard he was released, I immediately thought he *could* replace Voggie… unless, as I asked before, he’s truly done. I haven’t been following his season, so I don’t know… I’m guessing if management doesn’t bring him in, then that likely answers the “done” question.
You learn a lot listening to Lurie interviewing Bobby Evans. Evans actually says something, unlike Sabes, which is like listening to Charlie Brown’s teacher. Evans said it is hard to bring up Kickham since they’d have to put him on the 40 man, which means if he blew up, it would be tough because he’d have to basically stay on the 40 man though he’d go back down. Heston is already on the 40 man, which would give them more flexibility. I get that, but bottom line, who’s better now? Sometimes the Giants seem to think too much on these moves. Pick the guy, take a risk, and go with it…
Padres gettin’ it done so far, 9-4 over the D-Backs. Cool.
Holy fuck!!! The Giants won?!?!?!?!? All this time (daughter’s graduation, dinner w. friends, 2 hour drive home) I thought they lost. I was in the bar when I happened to see Romo give up the homer in the top of the 10th, and then went back to dinner. Drove home, and just now I saw top plays. #1 was Pagan’s inside the parker. Unfuckingreal!!
I don’t know, but Flannery looks somewhat like our beloved world traveler, Steve the Blade. Has anyone ever seen the two of them together, in the same room at the same time? I’m just sayin’… 🙂
Blade runs way faster at altitude…
From New Zealand to AT&T?
Wow. Just saw both the blown calls. Jesus. What a joke.
The blown call at third was due to lazyass moves by the homeplate ump Marquez. He had all day to move to third on that pop because he has to know the other umps are rotating to take care of watching the OF play the pop. If he had gotten there on time, he’d have been near the bag looking in the line towards 2b in order to make the call. He would have clearly seen the missed swipe tag. But no, he was about 10 feet down the line towards home. Totally out of position, he just guessed…
absolutely spot on analysis.
