2013 Draft Re-Cap!
The Giants drafted two really smart guys….
And that’s all we really know. Two high school kids who blew the bejesus off the top of their GPA’s, both are verbally committed to going to college—Christian Arroyo to the University of Florida and Ryder Jones to The Farm.
The only thing I can surmise about these 2 picks is that the Giants didn’t really like this draft. There is NO other reason to take a guy ranked 102nd with the 25th pick unless you’re pulling a coup on the rest of the league–and there was no secret coup, the Giants don’t have an agreement in place with Arroyo. If either fails to sign we get a compensatory pick the following year.
And super smart people tend to want to go to college and do something with their brains other than bash baseballs around. Of course, they could also knock college out in a couple of off seasons, too.
Ryder is headed to Stanford so I’d be totally fine with him snubbing us for them. Of course, I’d be fine with him signing, too.
The Giants have had some pretty spectacular drafts since Sabean started paying attention to the process back in 2006. I have to trust and believe that they know what they’re doing with all of this and I pay very little attention to who Keith Law ranks in his top 100 draft prospects. It’s the first high school position player they’ve taken in the first round since they tabbed Tony Torcato in ’98. And we all know how that turned out.
So Arroyo is no Tony Torcato. Or maybe he is, and he’ll be playing for Florida next year……
I like your take on the Giants attitude to this draft. Good perspective. Compensatory picks next year will be fine. btw: Did you mean first HS position player since Torcato? They drafted both Cain and MadBum out of HS in the first round.
yes, thanks for catching that.
I’m okay with these picks, as long as they don’t decide to party with a posse at some bar in the D.R.
Flav must have meant position player…Wheeler was drafted out of HS, too.
I like your spin on the draft, too. Bring on the compensatory picks.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, the boys start their longest roadie of the year. And we all know that the road has not smiled favorably on the Orange and Black this year. There are no “must win” games in this series, but being 2.5 back of Zona (and they being the first stop), it would be nice to take at least two of three there.
I have said often that they need to start playing better ball on the road (around .500). The way they have played on the road, I would take 4-5 as a mild success. Also time to see them string-together a number of games where they are clicking on all cylinders…starters going at least six, solid error-free D, and some timely hitting.
Good post Chi on the Giants upcoming road trip. Concur that they need to go 4-5 . . . However, even more important is to play Gmen baseball, with good pitching and defense (which usually results in wins).
By the by, I have 2-3 spare parts on my Flap team (Ramirez, Cain, and Jennings), they will be gone in the next few days come hell or high water, as I have a few trade proposals in the mix. Come one, come all – send me your offers.
Maybe the biggest bust overall #1 pick was Brien Taylor (sp. is correct ), selected 1st in 1991 by the Yankees. Said to have 100 MPH fastball, he suffered control problems, then wrecked his shoulder in a fight after the 1993 season. He was out of baseball after 2000, after several brief efforts to return after the injury. He never pitched in the bigs and is currenty serving a 38 month sentence at the Federal Correctional Institution, Fort Dix for selling crack cocaine in 2012. He has five daughters..
SInce Torcato keeps finding his way into the lead post, I can’t resist asking the following trivia question:
What do San Dawg, Tony Torcato, Dustin Pedroia, and Charles Schwab all have in common?
They all attended Woodland High.
Fight on Wolves!!!
Pretty awesome Fresno game last night-down 11-0, they won 15-13. Juan Perez had a grand slam, Kieschnick homered in a 10 run 7th, Abreu was 3-3 with a sac fly… as to Perez, they obviously want the guy to become an acceptable middle infield reserve option, they keep trotting him out to SS, with brutal results- 8 errors in 10 games. I’ve wanted to see him here, but as a 5th OFer…
Wow! Agree about Perez, but maybe they see him now as more than a 5th and want him playing everyday?
Hey, I knew about Pedroia. Until a few years ago I attended the 4th of July fireworks extravaganza in Woodland every year with a bunch of academics. Some of them lived in a quiet Woodland neighborhood, but one night per year they ventured down that street, past the ballparks and the barbeques and driveway-based roman candles launchings, to the HS stadium. Lots of infernal smoke and fire and noise in the hot valley evening.
Nice Xoot! We Woodland folk always got really into the fireworks aspect of the 4th of July. I remember some guys in the neighborhood making a homemade “bomb” by filling a Campho-Phenique bottle with gun powder and somehow inserting a fuse through the cap. It was an incredibly stupid thing to do, but as a kid I was quite fascinated by the process. They eventually got the thing to detonate and it was quite an explosion.
Campho-Phenique! Whatever happened to that stuff? Dried up zits like nobody’s business. My Snarkettes get zits now and have a bunch of Mary Kay crap they use. It’s like putting on paint — first a cleaner, then a base coat, then primer, then the paint. It all works, pretty well. But, I tell ’em — hey, dab that zit with some Campho-Phenique. They look at me like I’m deranged…
I heard the kid Arroyo interviewed on KNBR last night. Smart kid. Erudite for a high schooler, heck he speaks better now than most MLB players. Sounded like he was jazzed about the first round, but if the Giants don’t knock his socks off with some money, I think there’s a good shot he’ll go to Gatorland for a year or three. I like drafting position players, but they’ve got Panik and Crawford, so I’m not sure what their thinking is for Arroyo. I would draft outfielders and more outfielders, given the lack of home grown ones the past two decades…
G,s say they look for the best player avail regardless of position.
They have little choice. Get the best or die.
It’s great Snarkk is not the GM.
They’d have won rings with Bonds had I been the GM. I would have surrounded him with good players, not broken down, washed up guys. Instead, Baer & Co. watched the cash register kaching. How’s the van?…
Twin, I just sent you an email about DSL internet service, bundled packages w/land line, etc. Thanks . . . Steve
How interesting!
Flav, enjoyed your draft preview yesterday and a good analysis today. BTW, is it just me, or is Ryder Jones kind of a funny name?
No, I am dyslexic – so I read that as “Ride her Jones!”
Question just occurred to me. Is this the most significant mid-season series with the DBags since June 2003, when AZ came to town contending and left after a four-game Giants sweep (concluded with flourish in the Barry Bonds birthday walkoff game)? That series sweep seemed to cut the head off the snake that year.
Y’all may have noticed that I tend toward hugely negative feelings about the Dodgers, but Puig’s story kind of grows on me, for nostalgic reasons. Young 5-tool player, playing rightfield, and batting lead-off? That’s Bobby Bonds during the years when I was becoming a life-long Giants fan.
So…..it pains me to say this, but…..Puig is good for baseball. It’s unfortunate he’s a Dodger, but I can’t hold that against him personally. Hopefully, his impact will still not be enough for the Dodgers to turn their 2013 season around.
Those are the 2 things I like best about you Zumiee—-your dislike of the Dodgers and your love for Bobby Bonds. I’m right there with you on both of those.
I hope we don’t have to wait too many more years for the Giants to develop a 5 tool outfielder. Its been a while. A long while.
Yeah, Bobby Bonds was the dude!
Some pundits would rip him about his strikeouts; but nowadays, folks wouldn’t hold the strikeouts against him, other than folks like Vin Scully.
Last night, during the Dodger game, Scully mocked the SABR-believers, talking about this very issue. He mentioned Bill James and called him “the numbers guy” or something like that, and then said that SABR folks believe that the strikeout is basically no worse than other kinds of outs. Then Scully said how can that be? With a runner on third and less than two outs, how can a strikeout be the same as any other kind of out?
Scully doesn’t get where SABR is coming from. The point is that a lot of times batters don’t get that runner in from third because they pop out, or ground back to the pitcher or whatever. All that matters is, how often does the batter get that runner in from third when he has the chance. I’m going to guess Bonds did well on that; he often had good RBI numbers, even batting lead-off.
Scully was saying all that in regard to how often the Braves strike out. Yeah, those strikeouts are killing the Braves this season. Their firstplace lead in their division is only 7 games so far.
I didn’t hear Scully, but I kind of get his point. He’s likely seen/broadcast over 10,000 MLB games over 60 years. He probably knows a little bit about it…
Well, he’s no Ron Darling !!!
The last one near Bonds was Bonds. Well, Chilidog was solid, Jack the Ripper, uh, uh, uh . . . Mike Aldete? Marvin Benard? Sheesh it has been a while.
This team used to have OFers falliing out of the sky. So many that George fricking Foster was expendable.
The all Gary OF, the all Alou OF. the all barcalougnger OF.
You’re not going to get OFers falling out of the sky if you don’t draft good ones. The Blanco/Torres LF is adequate, but seriously, why can’t this organization develop a really good corner OFer internally. Why is it THAT difficult?…
Roger Kieschnick will get his chance at some point. He’s putting up good numbers in Fresno.
Until they perform at the MLB level, they’re nothing but potential. I’m talking about an everyday, dependable prototypical corner OFer that hits .275 or better, has speed, has a glove, can hit 15-25 HRs and can SLG well above .400. Pence is doing that for us, but he’s costing $13M a year, too. A cheap version developed internally is what I’m looking for…
Bobby was close to a 5-tool, but lacked the “hit tool”. He hit over .300 just once and over.280 just three times. .268 career BA. And Barry lacked the arm. We have never had a 5-tool player.
Blade, I got your Email. I’ll get back to you..
What is Baltimore, Alex?
Snarkk, I hear ya, but the Giants were not developing Shit during the Bond years, except for pitchers. Until Bonds retired/let go whatever. The Giants Farm system was very poor on position players, just look at how many hasbeen 2nd and SS have gone through the SF. Some have been good for 1 or 2 years but nothing long term. Now the Giants have, Belt, Crawford, Pablo. Hopefully outfielders are being groomed, and not just 1 or 2. As far as the wo draftees, KNBR this morning was talking about the Giants draft Atheletes. Someone who is versital. Good for trades. so we will see.
I kinda thought Mays was considered a five tool player.
Yeah, I kinda did forget the greatest player ever. Of course he was.
Dave Kingman was a major league tool. 5 times over. He lost game 2 of the 1971 playoffs w/Pitts by knocking a foul ball fair for a 3 run homer. IIRC.
How many 5 tool OF’s are there in the game today?
Trout easily comes to mind.
I’m not talking 5 tool. Gimme 3 tools and a coupla nails, or 4 tools and some duct tape. Get me an OFer that can hit 20 HRs, has speed, and flashes the glove. Everything else is gravy…
so .215, ton of strikeouts and a wet noodle works? 😉
“Dave Kingman was a major league tool. 5 times over.”
You gotta love the Flap.
The top 3 hitters in the D-Backs lineup are having “career” type of seasons. After that, the lineup turns into a bunch of scrappy .250 hitters. So, I’m calling the first inning as Cain’s most pivotal inning. Get through the first inning, and go on and have a nice game. Give us 7 solid innings. Go Affeldt in the 8th, Romo in the 9th.
And hang a loss on Mr. 9-0.
Last time in Az, Cain was cruising up 3-0, then gave up 4 in the 4th on 2 blasts.
1. Andres Torres (S) LF
2. Marco Scutaro (R) 2B
3. Buster Posey (R) C
4. Hunter Pence (R) RF
5. Pablo Sandoval (S) 3B
6. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
7. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
8. Gregor Blanco (L) CF
9. Matt Cain (R) P
Giants OF, as part of Top 30 or 50 of NL OFers, per MLB.com. As a combined OF, the runs scored looks pretty decent. If Pence stays on pace in these categories, or gets into the top 10, he’s gonna get a payday…
1. BA: Pence 10th, Pagan 21st.
2. OBP: Pence 18th, Pagan 24th.
3. HRs: Pence 11th, Pagan 39th, Torres 46th (ties)
4. Runs: Pence 11th, Pagan 17th, Blanco/Torres (18th combined)
5. OPS: Pence 11th, Pagan 23rd.
Either Pagan is a big pussy who can’t play in any sort of pain or the Giants trainers need to stop praying for a miracle. DL him already, they should have done it a week ago
Snarkk: Why did you leave out BA, OBP, and OPS for Torres? He leads Pagan (slightly) in all three. Plus wOBA and wRC+. I posted previously that I don’t expect that to continue, but Torres has hit better than Pagan this year.
Not according to the webstats on mlb.com for the first three stats you mention. The other stats I didn’t check at all. Check it out…
Torres BA .270 Pagan .262
Torres OBP .315 Pagan .314
Torres Slugging .402 Pagan .372
Torres OPS .717 Pagan .686
Torres wOBA.314 Pagan .302
Torres wRC+ 103 Pagan 94
That’s from Fangraphs on all of them, confirmed on first four by Baseball Reference, and the team website. If you have different numbers, I’m sorry but they are wrong.
http://tinyurl.com/n2oyh2r
MLB.Com also has BA, OBP, slugging, and OPS as I list them. I’d be interested on where you got different numbers.
I think we’re both right. I looked at it again. The mlb.com list in the stats I cited defaults to “qualifiers”, which gives a top 30 or top 50 in the NL, so that must be based on number of ABs. So, Torres doesn’t have enough ABs for that comparison, apparently. If I toggle out of default to the “all players” list, the stats show as you say. I didn’t mean to slight Torres, I included him where I found him. I didn’t notice the default toggle…
Pagan out of the LU again.
I continue to question why this guy wasn’t DLed. What is this, about 8 games played or so with his roster spot worthless? Does Bochy think we’re good enough to let the other team play using one more guy than we do? To quote Rick Barry, “That’s craaaazy”…
Correction, looks like Pagan’s been out 11 games, nic tonight. Tonight will be 12 games playing with one man down on the roster. I don’t get that. Thats 7.5% of the entire season’s games. WTF? Are we trying to win here, or what?…
It’s spooky. Maybe he’s working covertly for the NSA (Not Saying Anything).
Well, they do have to rely somewhat on what the player reports. I’ve seen at least one day where he was to be ready to go that night and then wasn’t. It’s also been said he could pinch hit. Bochy relies on the medical people and the player. He’s been told time after time that Pagan was ready that day,., or the next day. I don’t know who it’s on but it’s hard to see where it’s on the skipper.
agreed, I don’t think Bochy or Sabean have anything to do with it. They’re listening to the trainers as well as what the player is saying.
Just to throwing this out there, but would Pagan have gotten back into the LU already if this was last year (ie, contract year?).
It’s a decent question to ask though I’m aware the answer can’t be found here…….
Hey, the buck stops at management, whether its Bochy or Sabean. But, seriously, does anybody disagree that this is ridiculous to play 12 regular season games with a man down? Once they saw he wasn’t healing quickly, use the retroactive DL move. I don’t think I’m being too hard here, this is friggin major league baseball, and NL style. One man less on the bench could decide a game with late innings double switching, PHing, etc. It clearly gives the other manager an advantage late in the game. I don’t need to tell anybody here that. It’s just bullshit, especially when they’re playing tough teams…
no, it is totally ridiculous. I just don’t think it’s on Bochy. It’s not like he can call Pagan a pussy and write him into the LU anyway. And if the medical staff is saying “just….one…more…day” I think it’s hard for him to ignore that. Maybe Pagan’s a *100 percenter*. Especially with his new contract…….
If we had Peguero up here instead of Pagan’s towel, maybe we might have won one more game, I dunno. This is just so — Giants, on the medical side of things. I’ll get off the soapbox now, unless he’s gone for another half dozen games…
Maybe it’s an indictment of Pegs or Kieshnick— like, an empty spot on the bench is less of a risk than what they could give us. No, I don’t think it’s that. But if they had Wil Myers in AAA, we would have seen him about a week ago with Pa—GONE to the DL…….
Snarkk, you can also look at Bryce Harper, since running into the wal in LAl. His knee is still fucked up and now after starting, resting, starting, day-to-day, he now gets a visit to Dr. James Andrews office. I don’t think he was ever put on the DL while recovering/playing through his “bursitis”. Should he have been on the DL instead of trying to play through it? Tough call, the Team tries to protect their “investment” while also trying to win.
Well, Bozo, I sort of get that. However. I have always been a proponent, in any sport, that if you can’t really play close to your regular effort due to injury, then don’t. Get well, then play. In football, guys play with injuries, they get shot up, I get that, but it’s one game out of 16, there’s a premium on every game. In baseball, there’s 162. If you’re hurt, get better, then get back in. Meanwhile, let your teammates pick up the slack. If your replacement sucks so bad that he’s worse than you when you’re really hurt, that’s on management…
I agree snarkk, what I’m saying (and I didn’t do a very good job at) is that it’s not just the Giants. After what the Nats did with Strasburg last year, I can only think that Harper’s say had a lot to do with it and Pagan might be the same thing.
Posey batting 3rd. #whateverworks
Well, I’ll be. They must have heard me braying about this the past few days.
I just saw a tweet that the Gyros have put Pagan on the DL retro to 5/28, and bringing up Juan Perez. I guess 11 games played being down by one man was enough. Since he plays 3rd, not OF, I wouldn’t doubt he might sub in for Panda with his bad paw…
Baggs tweets Pagan out at least 5 more days, hammie tendon swelling per MRI today…
I guess the rest didn’t work and he started pushing it and now we have swelling. That actually sounds like more than 5 more days to me……
Bingo, you know that is likely BS. How ’bout Perez, and not an OFer?…
Perez plays all OF spots plus 3rd and 2nd.
Perez has mostly played OF, Snarrk ( over 400 games). Until this year, he’d played 72 games at 2b in 2008, other than that exclusively OF. They’re trying to groom him as an all around utility guy this year. I referred to SS because that hasn’t gone swimmingly- 8 errors in 10 games.
Well, at least they brought up “my guy” 😉 Don’t play him at SS and we should be OK.
Oh, they called up Perez. Very interesting, I hadn’t bothered to check, I just figured it was one of the regular retreads. He was a fascinating interview with Lurie in Spring Training. Easy to root for him…….
I’m going with a 5-4 roadie.
More wishful thinking than logical. But, they’re due to play solid defense, and they’re due to hit better on the road. Panda hits in Ariz very well, so maybe that will help get things started…
OK, thanks for the info. I was going with what’s on the Grizzlies’ site, they have him as an IFer.
His last 10 games he’s got BA of .194 and OBP of .216. WTF? Why not Peguero or Kieschnik, their last 10 games’ stats are far better. Is it an options thing?…
Well, they may be looking at more than a few days and they need to get better than they’re getting from Noonan. Perez has a bit more versatility than the OFers. And hey. he had a slam last night..
The other day I mentioned the South being another world, and also mentioned Jasper, TX, east of Houston about 40 miles, being part of it. Here’s a video I just happened on. The first two minutes you’ll see the cops in Jasper beating on a black woman. About 1:35 in, one cop hilariously falls backward trying to pull this woman by her legs. This stuff goes on all the time in these kinds of areas. Think of what the Congressmen must be like that represent these areas, and that explains a lot of what is happening in Washington…
http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/lookout/video-captures-jasper-texas-police-officers-beating-woman-204501776.html?CMP=OUTUS
I called up local Gigantes fan Sam P. asking him to head out to a North Syracuse sports bar to taunt them about their boy Corbin. But Sam is working until 2am. But maybe it gives me an excuse to to do it anyway; that or some other Trouble. (The other night my girl spotted a car in front of our house with a Giants license plate holder, two cars up from my car w/ my new SFG plate holder bought in Cooperstown, from the place that will let me hawk WORLD SERIOUS June 22-23.. I was gonna leave a note. Chickened out. Am I losing my touch?)
Wow. 2 foul homers on each side. Cain looks like he doesn’t have much to start this one…
Those first two pitches to Cody were strikes, called balls. WTF is it with these umps?…
WHATTHEFECK IS IT WITH FIRST INNINGS AND OUR PITCHERS?
Matt “31 Pitches” Cain. Escape Artiste.
WTG Torres.
Trying to quit smoking while watching a Giants game is, stupid. I just caught myself trying to find one of those tourist metal AZ ashtrays that I have somewhere.
Find the ashtray and use the butts from the STL game. Simple.
Aha. Not a bad idea.
What kind of self-respecting man allows himself to be called “DiDi”?
Good play by Belt there.
Didi Idiocy
What, we got a Spahn-Marichal contest going on? #toetotoe
The Rockies have been Gyorkoed.
Kuiper got a little excited there.
About time. WTG Blanco.
Help yourself out Matt.
Good to see the lefties getting it done against this guy.
The Puig-ster hit HR #4 tonight. On what date does he pass the Giants HR leader? (grin)
The Dog leader has fewer than our leader.
Game temp, 106. But it’s DRY. As are ovens.
helluva effort from Cain. Needs to bottle up whatever he used vs. Golds.
You are fucking kidding me.
fuckmeblackandblue
Utterly stupid.
well, you walk willie f-ing bloomquist, and that’s what happens.
I doubt golds was supposed to get anything near the zone…and that’s why.
give me the gas pipe
Weak.
Uh, I was in a restaurant bar watching this more off than on. In the middle of a sausage and spinach calzone and a Racer 5 with the younger Snarkette, I see Affeldt walk a guy, then Rags comes out. Younger Snarkette says — “who’s “Ricketti”?. A: He’s the pitching coach. He’s telling this guy to keep the ball down and don’t throw a home run pitch. “Oh”.
So, why was Affeldt left in — we don’t have any RHP relievers? Just wondering…
he was supposed to walk golds if he had to and face Montero the lefty next. I wondered why Machi was up, but I guess after he walked bloomquist that was the plan–let golds go and go after the lefty hitting Montero. what a f-up by affeldt.
I wasn’t really aware of the whole situation, but weren’t there guys on first and second? Why would you intentionally unintentionally walk another runner, the go ahead run, into scoring position?…
They missed Casilla tonight.
BOO HOO
I just read some post game stuff. Bottom line is I think Bochy had no confidence in Ramirez or Machi to get Goldy out. Casilla is missed here, no question…
getting goldy out wasn’t gonna be easy for anyone, so bochy’s plan was to pitch to Montero lefty vs. lefty. And I think he might have done that even with Casilla healthy.
I was waiting for affeldt to get bloomquist out so Romo could face goldy in the 9th, bases empty and maybe with an insurance run or two.
The horse us back, gave up an infield hit that was turned into an earned run. Walked Bloomquist? 106? didn’t they close the roof? The engine continues to sputter, but I see some positive re-direction.
Good, God, Go Gigantes and keep that gas pipe far from Kokonuts lips.
I pray the team unity rises up in clubhouses both home and away..
I didn’t see the game, but I am with Ed mostly . . . Cain’s effort tonight was excellent and I see many positives from this game, even though they lost. It seems like the heart of the pitching staff is beginning to jell and that can only mean good things in the future for this team. Go Giants!
Goldschmidt was 0-5 against Affeldt, Affeldt has been pitching well, and he had been equally successful against both RHers and LHers. It’s debatable whether pitching around Goldschmidt was the best stratgegy, and Affeldt, in his words made “a dumb pitch to a dumb location”- but walking Bloomquist was the real sin, and Pablo misplayed Pollock’s grounder. Goldschmidt never shouild have batted. Tonight is a the perfect time for MadBum to show why many think he’s CY material.
The draft? It was a terrible draft. Harkens back to the bad old days when we decided that everybody else was wrong about the guy we picked. Arroyo was a third round pick at best.
Absolutely dead-on about Bloomquist. All the focus has been on the Goldschmidt AB — and what exactly was the point of it I don’t know, if they intended to pitch around him, then at 2-0, they should’ve just put him on and take their chances with Montero — but the 4 balls to Bloomquist were dumber, dumber, dumber and dumber.
Awesome take by Flavor on the draft. Giants didn’t score enough, they lost. No worries.
It was a bad loss. It isn’t the case often, but last night 1 run should have been enough.
Bum has drawn some outstanding opponents and gotten hit hard as of late (his last 2 starts). However, in his last start against the Snakes, he did quite well (although only getting 2 SOs). In fact, the start before that, he also did well against the Snakes (this time getting 7 SOs). So, in 2 starts against AZ, he has pitched 14.1 innings with 1 earned run. Outstanding! Expect the same thing this evening.
Have a nice day, guys. It’s going to be 109 here and my cooler is on the fritz. I’m going under the bed.
I’m with Oracle’s comment on the first round pick Arroyo. After reading a bit, looks like everybody had this kid ranked down below the top 100. So, we get him mid-20s? What do we know that the others don’t? That doesn’t sound like the “best player available”, especially when Barr says he’s a middle infielder, and we’ve got Crawford, who should be SS for the next 7-10 years, and Panik supposedly is going to take 2nd. Only ONE of SF’s 10 picks was an OFer. ONE. A LFer they took in Round #8. (Tyler Horan out of VA Tech, look at his video below, I don’t like his throwing motion at all). After the first two picks were high school IFers, they took college guys — 5 pitchers, and another SS, and a 1B and Horan the OFer. 6 of the 33 first round picks were OFers, 4 of them taken before the Giants’ 25th pick, with Oakland taking a CFer right before the Giants picked Arroyo. Is the Giants minor league teeming with top OF prospects? Not that I’ve heard. Kieschnik, Peguero, Brown? Come on, these guys are not difference makers from the looks of it. This tells me the Giants don’t care about the OF anymore, at least in the US draft. They’ll use stocked pitching talent to trade for OFers, or apparently “develop” OFers from Latin America. That has to be their plan, if they have one for the OF… http://tinyurl.com/me3tasm
Please allow me a moment to grieve. It’s one thing to lose a game in the late innings, but it’s almost as tragic to lose a PREDICTION that way. So close…..so close…..

I’ll pop a thread up for the game. With only 2 more till 1000 I didn’t want to just slap something up this morning. Still don’t have anything but maybe the Belmont winner will inspire me. I like the 2,6,9,10 in that one but not enough to bet both lungs.
1. Gregor Blanco (L) CF
2. Marco Scutaro (R) 2B
3. Buster Posey (R) C
4. Pablo Sandoval (S) 3B
5. Hunter Pence (R) RF
6. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
7. Andres Torres (S) LF
8. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
9. Madison Bumgarner (R) P
One thing I know about the Belmont: DJ Loo isn’t there. Or here. He hates crowds. Two mins to go, should be an exciting race
Noonan down, Abreu up. Vogelsong moved to 60-day DL.
I thought that Noonan would probably go down when Pagan came back, but now it might signal the end of the Pill era. With Belt showing ( again) that he can hit LHers, I don’t see any reason to keep Pill…
I agree about Pill. I was ready to replace Noonan the first time they tried Perez in the infield. I know Perez kicks the ball in the inf (although. some scouts have him way ahead of Brown for defense in the OF), I didn’t care, I wanted to see the kid up here, and Noonan was just a nice ST story to me. Good moves in my opinion.
There are days when I’m grateful for choosing the Giants over the Mets, and this is definitely one of them.
marlins win in 20 2-1
