It’s Moscoso Tiempo!
Everyone, come in from the ledge. Sabean has worked his magic once again. Guillermo Moscoso has arrived! I had to look back 3 times to mlbtraderumors.com to make sure I spelled his name correctly. Anyway, he’s been pitching for the Cubs at AAA but is supposed to join the big club tomorrow. Come on down?
The Giants have 8 pending free agents this Winter. E-I-G-H-T. Sabean’s got to at least try to move one or two of them, right? Sabes gave up on the season yesterday saying,Β “As we speak, the math is horrific against us,” he said on his regular KNBR appearance on Thursday. “And we’re almost ready to turn the page on this season.”
I’ve accepted the fact that he isn’t going to add anything that could be useful this season. He’s got a boat load of “Culberson’s” down there but for some reason refuses to part with them. Many GM’s have died before him clutching too tightly to their *Culberson’s*.
But what sense does it make to hold on to ALL of your pending free agents? How many will he make qualifying offers to (In order to get the draft pick)? Pence, Timmy and Panda? Ok, so at least CHECK IN with other GM’s about what any of those 3 would bring. And sell the other guys off for SOMETHING. And when I say SOMETHING I’m talking about aiming a little higher than Guillermo Moscoso (got his name right the first try, all I had to do was look up the thread a bit)………
For scoring runs, we can’t pee a drop.
So, hell yeah, bring in another pitcher.
Sabes, no wonder he said yesterday he doesn’t like this time of the season…
Panda’s got another year on his deal. No qualifying offer will be coming this offseason. A one way ticket to Jenny Craig may be in order…
Mrs. Snarkk and the Snarkettes are getting into this English TV show “Downton Abbey” via Netflix. I’ve watched a little. Lots of tea and crumpets, flat chested chicks with floppy hats, and constipated looks all around. I’m not getting it, yet. Hopefully, some kind of turn of the century floozie arrives soon, or WWI, whichever is earlier…
I have a brand new big screen tv and I look at it too. Unfortunately, I disconnected DirectTV, so the black screen is getting boring to look at. π
You know it has been a rough season for our Giants when you even “think about” discussing Downton Abbey on The Flap.
Didn’t we fight a Revolutionary War so that we didn’t have to be concerned with such nonsense? π
There’s a big task of rebuilding ahead, and Sabean needs to be up for the job, energy-wise. Maybe he’s just flat-out burned out from the last 3 seasons. Maybe the team and the whole organization is burned out from the last 3 years. It’s been an amazing ride, and they’re worn out, and need rest. Maybe missing the playoffs in 2013 would turn out to be a blessing in disguise for 2014. Maybe the team will come out in 2014 with the bounce back in their step.
Yeah, I know I just used a lot of “maybe’s.” π
Then maybe they shouldn’t be cashing their checks…
And if my Aunt had balls, she’d be my Uncle…
How about a poll on how many Flappers have given up on the season?
When the GM gives up what’s the point of polling anyone else?
Well, most of us here are staunch Giant fans. Regardless of whether Sabes and Co. are abandoning ship, it would be cool to know where Flappers stand on the season.
I have yet to be on the ledge, but have teetered on whether or not they should sell.
I have not given up…if they can hang tough in August (almost all of the games are out of division…and our boys have SUCKED outside of the West), then there may be hope (almost all of September’s games are in division).
And while the bums have been playing out of their fucking minds (something like 22 of 28)…no way in hell I see them maintaining that clip.
Stranger things have happened…just saying…
Yeah….that’s right!
βAnd weβre almost ready to turn the page on this season.β….
WTF Sabes!… You can think it.. but did you have to say it??.. Why don’t you go down to the clubhouse
and throw in that towel. I got a better idea.. Get on the PA system at the game and tell the 41k how you feel. Jesus, I guess the Team doesn’t have a chance to sweep the Cubs series
(Soriano’s gone that helps) and the Reds couldn’t take the LA series..?….
Don’t tell me all the stats and metrics of the last 25 games that we want to forget….
There’s 61 games left and their out by 7 games….It ain’t over……
Sabes your a dick!
Correction: Sabes is not a “dick!”
Sorry Nip… though the odds are bad… what he said was wrong and didn’t show some respect for the team.
Those guys are playing their hearts out and then have to hear their GM basically giving up on them…
Yeah, now get out on the field with that on your mind and do your best?…. IMO wrong dripple coming out of his mouth….
I beg to differ denniszu…I am NOT convinced that this team is “playing its heart out.” In my opinion, this team is NOT playing to potential…the proof is in the pudding (numbers).
100% agree
Subtlety is not Sabean’s specialty. Remember the “clock is ticking” comment he made about Bengie several years ago? Of course, he did have the “closed door “meeting with the pitching staff around this time in 2010 when he called guys out…He certainly didn’t hold back then, and we all know how that turned out.
Maybe it is all a ploy to light a fire under our team’s collective asses…because if you ask me, it looks like most on the 25 mailed it in a long time ago…and you’re gonna bag on Sabes for doing it NOW? WTF…
Agree Chi. Sabes isn’t the problem. The collective roster needs to look in the mirror – they’ll find the problem there.
Chip , if it’s a fire he created, it’s only burned the players.
I think it’s a little early to say the team has folded and we all know it wasn’t an easy walk for them in 2010 and 12.. Maybe they think some of that magic comes back…. I DON’T KNOW”…..
But I still say Sabes is a dick for saying that… IMO
We can agree to disagree, denniszu. But I think Sabean’s comments (and the timing of those comments) are more a motive to try to “kick the tires and light the fires.” IMNSHO, Sabean is NOT the problem. As Blade said, the team can look in the collective mirror and see most of the problems…
Put down the crack pipe…Sabes is NOT a dick.
There’s no disagreement that the team knows they are not at their potential. However, their not holding back on effort and I just don’t think the GM’s ‘motivational’ comment is the right approach….let’s see what happens.
BTW – I gave up the pipe years ago.
Well, we can agree to disagree. IMO there are bigger fish to fry than Sabean’s comments…Next.
I think Salty said something like this a couple weeks ago—Sabes doesn’t have enough prospects to go out and make a deal for a top flight SP, like a Garza or Lee. Maybe Peavy, but he is battling a lot of others too and doesn’t have enough ammo. Off season, different story.
If you think SF can live without Romo, there is someone other teams are gonna be interested in. Now.
There aren’t hitters out there either–the pirates are supposedly up for either Rios or….Nate! We had Nate for 3 yrs of low .700 OPS seasons and bad splits. If that’s what is out there, I’d turn the page too.
In other words, it is up to Cain Lincecum et al to play better, esp on the road. And I really think Sabes is taking a long hard look at these last two months as auditions for who stays/who goes for 2014.
EXACTLY, WillieD. Like I said…my impression is that many of the players are playing like THEY have mailed it in…Sabean is NOT the issue. This is basically the same team that won it all last year…they need to PLAY BALL.
Willie D says “suck it up!” and play ball!
Doofus just flashed the numbers–SF is like 16-28 vs. NL central and east. Next 20 plus games that’s who they are playing plus 2 series vs. Tampa and Orioles, couple damn good teams. Half of these are on the road, where Giants are 18-31. Make up some ground against these guys and I could see Sabes having some *positive thoughts* about his team.
Is it just me or is Nate much more hunched over at the plate then when he was a Giant? I almost didn’t recognize him.
Hunched over and closed stance. No, you aren’t imagining that
Kruk decides to take a Blanco grounder that Nipper coulda handled to say Barney won the GG last year and if you want to get a hit, hit it somewhere else. Thanks.
As you mentioned the other night, it really is painfull listening to Krukow when the Giants suck so bad…Times like this, I wish they would tell more Frank Robinson stories…Even the ones we’ve heard a hundred times.
Good job Matt.
I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m tired of seeing the folks behind home plate, home or away. Really, I’m sitting at home so MLB thinks I might be interested in some idiot waving, someone stuffing their face or on the phone? Really? Can’t they use that software that Google earth does so it blurs all their faces?
Physically, Junior Lake is the spitting image of Eric Davis
Eric Davis was a cool player. Back in the days when the Braves were the shits (and on superstation every day), he used to destroy them. Seemed like every time he came up with guys on he’d hammer one and Skip Caray would be crying again.
at the time, he always struck me as the most athletic baseball player I’d ever seen…….
Great play by Lewis way back when.
WillieD mentioned the Giants record outside of the Mild Mild West (I mentioned this a couple of days ago, too). If the Giants can hang tough and stay close throughout August, then almost ALL of the games in September are in-division. This season is NOT over by any stretch of the imagination.
One thing I am definitely looking forward to is the Flapalooza Orange Sombrero night. How many have tickets for the game, and where are you sitting?
Time to score some runs.
Black Butte, Oregon, rental condo, circa ~ 2 weeks ago: In case any of you are looking for a little *more* tonight, I uploaded my video of Timmy’s no hitter to youtube. ESPN picked the game up in the 8th, I turned my camera on with one out to go in the 9th. My mom is the woman talking in the background. That’s my cousin watching the game intently with me. He loves baseball. His dad could give a shit about it, You can hear him in the background. He’s the guy I tell “there’s a no hitter going on”. He’s also the guy who says “it’s gone!” on that pop out to LF to end the game. Anyway, they live in Oregon and despite his dad, Jack is a huge Giants fan and this was a big moment for him. Sometimes, Giants fans make themselves. π
That’s awesome Flav…thanks for sharing.
And the final word on the feed…”Anna.”
Dollars to donuts that epic knock from Frenchy will be the extent of his Giants hi-light reel.
Happy for Nate, but I wish he would do his damage against the Bums and Snakes.
Fucking scrub Abreu.
Manny, your comment struck me funny . . . Still laughing. Actually, I was thinking the same thing about 2/3rds of our outfield. π
LMAO on the “multi-talented” comment, Steve.
Yup…that play (or lack thereof) pretty much sums up how the Giants have played (or not) ball this year…
He’s multi-talented – he can strike out too.
Fuck…that little bloop pretty much sums up the 2013 San Francisco Giants…
Kruk: “Nobody had a shot at this thing.” Say what?
Exactly Mac . . . That fucker was high enough that Pence would have had the best shot at it – he saw those fucks coming full speed at him and said, the hell with that (not going to be injured for nothing).
That ball was totally catch-able…I agree with Blade…they slowed-down…no one called for it. IMO this encapsulates the season to date…they just are not playing clean solid baseball. Hard to believe that, by and large, this is the same team that DOMINATED the Tigers in the World Series last year.
Bullshit. Just my take, but I think no one called for it and consequently, they all slowed down when they got there.
belch…..
And the most fucked-up thing is, they are down by only one fricking run. So many of the losses this year are equally attributable to the lack of offense as it is to the piss-poor D, and lack of quality pitching.
Nice play. You have to tip your hat to him.
1st pitch? Of course I have to swing at it.
3rd pitch was right in his wheelhouse. π
If Pablo wasn’t so fucking FAT…this would be a tie game!
And THIS is where the Giants have failed MISERABLY…w/RISP…
Come on Giants!
OK Hunter!…. Thank god Belt is walked…. He’s left an army on base over the last 3 weeks.
Belt needs to be in the line-up regularly…
Right on! FUCK YEAH! About time…
Frenchy!
IMO Frenchy should be in the line-up on a much more regular basis.
If I know one single thing, it is that we can beat the Cubs. We CAN Beat THE CUBS!!!!! Come on now, say it with me!!!!!!!!
Would be sweet to cash in with another run here…
I am sorry…I love Torres for all he has brought to the Orange and Black…but I think he is done. Shit, DFA him and bring up one of the young OFers from Fresneck…
Looks like another Torture night.
Clutch SO.
Now get this last fuck.
One more Santiago…come on!
Money!
Panda!
I retract my earlier statement about Pablo being a fat ass…
Well, no I don’t, but that was a bad ass play to get the Giants outta that jam….
LOL
Panda can still move that tonnage.
And he could move/do more if he lost some of it…
Need a DP, BIG TIME…
WTF…Is this game 7 of the WS? Sure feels that way…
Un-fucking-real…unfortunately, this is Giants’ baseball, the 2013 version…
Fuck me. Baseball Gods have our number this year.
BElt
Oh dear. What a fuckarow.
Season in a nutshell…
You heard it here first – Time to bring up Angel Villalona. π
They couldn’t win with Pancho Villa. (Did he play beisbol?)
Or Esmeralda Villalobos.
Fuck me. I stay up courtesy of WGN from the 4th inning onward to see a clusterfuck of a top of the fuckin ninth? What a fuckup of a fucked-up fuckeroo fuckitation. From the start, Romo wasn’t Romo. Belt buckners it. And if you ask me the third out was a hit. Fuck me. Do you hear me? Fuck me.
Awesome alliteration!
Well Belt will have a chance to redeem himself.
Hi, Dennis. Meant to call you back the other day, fellow Easterner. Bring us good juju.
bad loss and…………………and now we go to sleep at 1:30am…
Hide the women folk.
LOL…
Fuckity fuck. That was close.
pitcher is Stephen King?
Certainly a nightmare of a game.
Fuck Fuck Fuck.
in the fuckth degree
How’s that for our season in a nutshell? G’night, girls.
Guess I’m speechless.

The question I have, is where’s Flannery when the ball gets away from the Cubs catcher? He should be at 3rd with Belt. He should be the one saying go or stay. Yeah, he fucked up, but Flan should be there with him near the bag telling him whether to go or not.
Plus, Belt is not a particularly sharp baserunner, anyway. Earlier in the season, there was that game where he called himself out near second base, and allowed himself to be tagged out, when he stopped running because he thought he had gone out of the baseline even though the ump hadn’t called him out.
Because of Belt’s fielding error in the 9th, in addition to costing the Giants the game, Cain didn’t get the win, and Romo got a blown save and a loss. That’s wreaking some damage on your pitching staff with just one play.

“You heard it here first β Time to bring up Angel Villalona.”
Why not, and how about taking it a step further by trading Belt to the Pirates, Craw to the Cards and Blanco or Torres to a team needing OF depth/bench help. Bring up Angel, bring up Adrianza and let Javier Herrera get his cup of coffee. Should be able to get a young SP from the Cards, maybe a young OFer from the Pirates and a young BP guy for Blanco or Torres.
The Giants new motto could be “Every Other Year, Like Clockwork”.
