A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

“We Don’t No Hit You, We Don’t Win.”

It’s probably too long to put on a sign and it doesn’t have the same ring to it, does it?

Leake was lights out and Cueto has shut pretty much everyone down this year. But now we are in a pickle as the possibility of getting swept (again) at home is a real possibility. Alfredo Simon has been surprisingly good this year. Matt Cain has been surprisingly bad. And then “No Hit” Bailey gets to feast on us again tomorrow.

If I’m coming across negatively, it’s because I’m reacting to reality. If our reality changes, I’ll adjust my mood and attitude accordingly…..

Spot on Flavor. “Negatively?” Sounds like an accurate assessment to me, sans any emotional histrionics. Anyone who doesn’t follow FL, probably isn’t familiar with Simon . . . As you pointed out, he is surprisingly good. Amazing he doesn’t get more strike outs (since he has a good fast ball). This dude will be a load today and with Latos tomorrow, we are looking at a possible sweep. That’s a fact Jack.

I thought we faced Bailey tomorrow. Latos? He’d probably be better for us since he hates us and we need some emotion to rattle this cage….

Bummer. How much of Bumgarner’s melt-down can be attributed to the fact that without offensive support he maybe felt he had to pitch too fine? Speculative, sure. One thing i do know is that counting tonight (why play in SF on Saturday night? No need. Not good for national Giants fans~ particularly for the sufferers on the East Coast.) ~ counting tonight there are only three days left in June.

Belt homered for San Jose last night but also got HBP in his second consecutive game. When an ML player on rehab gets drilled twice in a row it should be axiomatic that the best player on the other team gets drilled hard on the ass. Without both Belt and Pagan the SF offense is a pretty sorry spectacle.

In losing streaks things seem to unravel in different places. Posey is heating up (though he did make poor decision on bunt play) while others (Morse esp) are cooling off. Bum almost no hit the D bax Sunday, gave up 9 last night though nothing off a wall or smashed 400 ft.
Good teams go through bad streaks, including all the better ones in the NL. Detroit got knocked out of first place by KC, but now they are back up 3 and a half. A’s went through a stretch when they weren’t scoring and their pen was giving up games but they’ve recovered.
It’s how you stick together and fight your way out when things aren’t going your way that makes champions…like the adversity of 2012 playoff vs. these same Reds. One of the mgrs. in the AAA Int’l league book I read had a sign in clubhouse that said, “If you don’t like it here, play better.” Advice doesn’t get any better than that.

  4. James's avatar James said, on June 28, 2014 at 7:48 am

Last year, the team was 38-42 at this point. Despite a terrible stretch, the team is still on pace for ~90 wins.

Those two Billy Hamilton flares probably pissed off Bumgarner more than the team’s crap production. Shouldn’t Hamilton be hitting the ball on the ground?

Yes, we are 6-0 this year in games where the other team didn’t score. So that’s the formula.
One of the starters made some comment about lack of run support to Randy Johnson when he was a Giant. If I recall correctly he said, that means you have to pitch better.
    Get em today.

I guess it’s the way the season was going up to now that has everyone coming up with a *fix*, but seriously, if anyone had said coming out of ST that end of June SF (halfway through season) would be 2 up on hated Dodgers despite injuries to Belt and Pagan and Scut still not on active roster, you’d have been pretty fired up. And deservedly so.

  12. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on June 28, 2014 at 11:16 am

Bingo. If we don’t start winning, we’re done. It’s the whole numbers thing all over again. Like yesterday, if you’d say early on that we’d be 12 games over .500 on July 1 with a 2 game lead, it sounds great.

But it’s terrible news when you understand that we were 9.5 games up and 21 games over .500 on June 6. Average out the season, and it looks ok. But when yer 4-13 in your last 17, well the trend is what? Free fall.

Sure they can come out of it. Hate to point to Pagan, but really, there’s not much difference other than him being gone. We weathered Belt and Casilla’s absense until Pagan went down.

    A tale of two seasons:
Before June 9th, the best record in MLB.
From June 9th to now, the worst record in MLB.

The highwater mark of the season, so far, is during the first game of the horrific melt-down series with the Rockies. Morse had just given the Giants the lead with an RBI triple, and standing on thirdbase he smiled and yelled out: “So fast!” There seemed to be no stopping the Giants.

Regarding the Sac Kings, I’m hoping Nik Stauskas is a better fit than Jimmer turned out to be.
I’m not sold on Isaiah Thomas as a starting point guard, but the Kings are, so the fans just need to hope he keeps developing, and cuts down the turnovers.

Going 9 – 8 over that stretch would have been good enough to prove the point. So, let’s get a win today, though with Cain up, I’m not sanguine about it. BTW, these night games on Saturdays suck.
