Where Have All the Good Hitters Gone?
Nice win today, great pitching and good hitting. Gotta see more of that to avoid the sun setting or the Bad Penny or whatever I keep babbling about here…..
Just took a sneak peak at tomorrow’s starters to see if there are any daily fantasy angles. I keep marveling at the SP’s ERA’s this year. Anyone else noticing this? Tomorrow there are seven games and seven of the 14 SP’s have ERA’s in the 2’s. And the monsters aren’t even going tomorrow. It’s really shocking to me how many good starting pitchers there are out there these days.
Personally, I attribute it to less steroids taken by the hitters since the steroid era ended. And we all know the pitchers took them too but you take that advantage away from both of them and pitching beats hitting all day long.
How many players do you think are still taking steroids? If you strike off Canseco’s idiotic number of 80% and guess that maybe 40% of them were taking them during the steroid era, what % do you put it at today? 20%? 10%? 5%?
Seems like a fun poll question. I’m sure I’ll fuck up the answers as I usually do but here goes:
Greinke is getting greinked. Josh Hamilton of the size 18’s must also have a heavy stick. He just popped one out and the LA ALers are up 5-zip in the top of the sixth.
Am I hearing that MacDog and Loo hung out together at a Mac-a-Looza and no pics were taken? If this is true, I’m literally devastated. Or did you try to take a pic of Loo and nothing showed up?
I second Wilco’s post, the 2 flappers I never, ever thought would get seen in public by other fellow human Flappers were: 1) Loo 2) Nipper
And one of us has actually physically interacted with Loo? Pawlie’s been wanting to do this for literally years. MacDog swooped in and scooped his ass…..
I need to know one thing: O/U on the height is set at 60 inches. Go…….
new thread
After 14-plus hours since leaving home, I’m back from Citi Field and a side trip to Lawrence NJ (north of Trenton). Here goes:
I went to the game with a buddy and two of his friends, one who went with us on the train from Jersey and the other from Manhattan who met us at Citi Field. Mets fans all, except me, of course.
And what a bad start, Murph hitting a 2-run blast before Huddy could get an out had me anticipating yet another losing visit to Flusing in a long string of ’em.
Then came the top of the 3rd. After Huddy struck out (I had no idea he was batting .050, now .040something), I turned to my buddy and said it’s time to start hitting this chump Gee.
Shortly thereafter, this guy with shades in a road Marichal jersey came over next to me. At first I thought it was someone with an assigned seat since none of us were sitting in ours. But because I was dutifully wearing my “We Score We Win” Flap shirt, I head “Macdog” and knew: It’s DJ Loo!
The rest of the game was a fucking blast, and not just because Pablo banged a double right away to tie it up. DJ bought me a couple of those promised tall beers (Corono Light) and everyone got along famously, to the point where DJ thought he might be able to convert one of buddy’s friend, who was wearing an almost Giants-like orange shirt, into a Giants fan.
Yes, we talked of Flappers past and present. So when the Mets brought in their closer in the top of the 9th, I didn’t hesitate to mention to DJ a certain Flapper from bygone days who constantly bitched about bringing in a closer in a non-save situation. And wouldn’t ya know it, Pablo blooped in the winning run.
Here’s what made this such an extraordinary day. It’s rare for me to take in a Giants road game in the company of a fellow Giants fan. That I got to do so today with someone as personable, knowledgeable and fanatical as DJ made today’s game a truly special experience.
Actually, fanatical is too strong a word, but it sounded nice in there. Passionate is a better choice. Believe me, DJ is into it, and I loved every minute of it.
I have absolutely no doubt that I would’ve experienced a similar vibe with any one of you great fans here. I already can’t wait to do it all again with DJ sometime next year.
Thank you, Big Flav, for making all this possible.
What a cool post. I am with Flavor and a few others…if there are no pictures, it will be devestation on the scale of…of…
Very cool, you 2…..
