A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Nice Start to a Road Trip

Three of 4 in New York? Plus an actual DJ Loo sighting? MacDog = the New BuzzSaw? Wither RealBuzzSaw? Is that even possible?

I’m blown away right now. I’m going to put this forward right now and stand by it till the end of the season no matter the outcome: a DJ Loo union with another Flapper is equal to a rally thong or something better. And I don’t know what that means, but it might be found gold. Baby.

The Dodgers are getting killed again as I write this……

We are in such an awesome spot to bounce forward. It’s almost like the next 2 series are a joke. Milwaukee and their bowling pin bullshit we never win in their house of horrors. KC is literally DH Hell for our hitterless team. I dunno, normally I’d be negative and pissing on myself with the sun setting and shit  but DJ Loo was a found and seen man tonight.

Anything is possible……

Damn, Machi looked like he just didn’t care with that pitch that went to the backstop

Didn’t want to give Panda anything. If ever there was a time for Morse . . .

    Come on Morse.

Bozo sure was right about the chick behind the plate…

And, she was scoring the game (no pun intended).

What a crappy way to lose.

  7. James's avatar James said, on August 5, 2014 at 8:06 pm

That is inconsistent with the way these have been called.

Didn’t look conclusive by the angles I saw. Tough loss.

What a fucked-up way to lose. It was close, but I can see where maybe the throw beat Panik by a whisper. Get ’em tomorrow.

The good news is that the Bums might lose tonight . . . with Kershaw pitching. Tied score, 3-3.

Still 3-3 bums and Angels, bottom of the 6th. Come on halos…

Tough loss. Guilt managing? Fuck that. Put Morse in there till we have something better, which we clearly don’t.

    • chipower9's avatar chipower9 said, on August 5, 2014 at 9:23 pm

Not sure. I saw Jame’s post earlier about pitchers, and the impact they have on the score. But if Pence, Posey and Panda are going good, I might opt for a good defensive OFer too. Perez, Blanco or Morse have all sucked-ass of late at the plate, so why not have an OFer in there who can field…

Bums up top 7. This is the game feed out here for MLB on the boob tube.

I really like the way Scully calls a game. He lets the background noise fill-up much of the telecast. Just really like the almost minimalist approach he has to calling the game. But still, fuck the bums.

Yeah – that was one of the weakest walk-off wins you’ll ever see. I’m not digging this new *Catcher can’t block the plate* rule at all. Not to say Uribe wouldn’t have been safe without the new rule (he could have barreled into Ianetta and dislodged the ball) but you could see how Ianetta was too far inside the 3rd base line to be able to catch that bad throw cleanly. Sure, Posey might like the rule, but I hate it.

    • Chipower9's avatar Chipower9 said, on August 6, 2014 at 7:46 am

Yeah, I have mixed sentiments, Rooster. I am sure any catcher who has been “blown-up” at home plate on one of these plays appreciates the rule change, and probably even a few catchers who have not.

Another change this year…the review process. I overall am a fan of the process, but it sucks when your team loses on an overturned call to end the game.

    • zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on August 6, 2014 at 7:46 am

The catchers can still block the plate, as long as they have the ball ahead of time.

The new rules have lowered the number of collisions at homeplate, and that’s a very positive thing, in regards to the players’ health, especially given what we know about concussions now.

Posey never advocated for the new rules, and in fact has said very little about them. He’s never wanted to be the “face” of the new rules.
And I’m sure lots, if not all, of the catchers appreciate the new rules, even if they don’t say it publicly.

      • Chipower9's avatar Chipower9 said, on August 6, 2014 at 8:04 am

Well aware that if the catcher possesses the ball, they can block the plate, zumiee, and I have never said anything about Posey being the poster boy for the rule change. And you are right, he has said very little on the subject. And it is hard to argue with less collisions, and even more so, less concussions. The players’ health should always be at the forefront of all discussions.

Vogey against Gallardo tonight. Hope Nicole cooked-up a tray of winning chicken enchiladas. Today is key (hell, they’re all key at this point in the season), as a win would set-up the proverbial rubber-match tomorrow for a series win.

Gallardo is 3-1 in his last 10 starts with a 2.63 ERA where his BBA against RHers is .268 and against lefties it is .214. His WHIP for the year is at 1.19.

We all know about Vogey. He seems to have picked-up Cain’s lack of run support bug and a lot of that has lead to his 2-6 mark over the past 10 starts. He is sporting a 4.45 ERA over that period and has a BAA of .243 against righties and a .286 against lefties. His WHIP for the year is 1.28 (this probably more than anything shows the lack of run support in comparison to that 2-6 record over the past 10.

Let’s see a win today, boys, and hope that the halos can pin another loss on the bumbinos!

As far the new rules, did you guys see the play in I think it was Miami that got overturned on review because the C was ruled to have been in the baseline illegally? The guy went up the 3b line in front of the plate to grab the throw (coming from RF), tagged out the runner and then NY freaking overruled it.
Mgr and players went ballistic, and ultimately mlb confirmed it was the right call. WTF? Even if you get in position and tag the guy out, you still get screwed.

As for Posey, this isn’t fantasy ball. The guy does need a rest, and Bochy’s plan to rest him on regular basis from catching Lincecum is in Posey and team’s best interest, short and long term. As has happened before, come playoffs it’s completely different, and results have been fine.
And I find it pretty hard to believe Posey (like any other ballplayer) wants to come out of the LU, so it’s on mgmt. and coaching staff. With Belt out he played more 1b, and 9 innings of that as has been pointed out many times is not a *rest day*. I’m not going to ? Bochy for giving him a periodic day off that hopefully keeps his legs and his bat fresher.

I thought last night would be our best shot at a win this series. The base hit to the pitcher is just such a pisser. because of course Timmy then hangs a slider. Boom. I know shit happens, and he pitched OK, but it seems like a lack of concentration to just groove a FB to the pitcher.

Then you got fucking Parra, that little shit.

Ahhh, well. Yeah, I think that’s the 2nd time the Giants have lost a game on a reversed call. Another new pisser that we’ve never been pissed about before.

Vogie? I didn’t realize he was putting together a season similar to Bummie.

Although his ERA and WHIP at home are MUCH better than on the road.

    Home 2-6, 3.28 era, 1.11 whip
    Road 4-2, 4.70, 1.51

No runs at home will do that though.

    Score him some runs!

He’s coming off his complete game shutout, so let’s hope he keeps up his roll and keeps the ball in the yard. 102 pitches is his usual for 6+ innings.
