A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Puke

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on September 24, 2014

I still can’t get over what a self-absorbed pussy Yasiel Puig is. There is nothing lamer than a guy who mills around waiting for an umpire or a catcher to get in his way before going bezerko. He’s just a joke. And no, I wouldn’t want him on my team. He’s got a golden arm, that’s true. But his hitting is overrated. He’s got one more RBI than Brandon Crawford and he usually hits in a much better RBI spot. His babyish attitude about literally everything makes him not worth the hassle. Now, if he turns into a 30-30 guy somewhere down the road, I would change my tune about wanting him on my team.

Ask Matt Kemp if he wants Puke on his team and I think we all know what the answer is.

Absolutely resigned to the wild card. Without a sweep of the bums it was going to be time to wave the flag re: winning the West. And I really don’t give a fuck if those cocksuckers get to celebrate a division win in front of us in the latrine. Fuck them.

Certainly didn’t want to see Madison ejected early in the game last night, but at some point I would love to see Bum beat the living dog shit out of Puig.

I didn’t catch much of last nights game. I like how Bumgarner doesn’t back down and even instigates a little bit but he let his emotions get the better of him there early last night.

Agree with you on Puig. Sure he’s got a great arm but he’s so in love with it that he makes the wrong play trying to show it off. He’s down in nearly every category compared to last year and acts like a clown. It’s one thing to be a red ass that your teammates can respect. It’s another thing to be openly ridiculed by your teammates and manager. Speaking of the dodger manager. Is it just me or does Mattingly really have no strategy or idea of what he is doing? On top of it he doesn’t seem to manage personalities very well which is necessary in the modern club house. Maybe its hard to do when the clown car is packed full of morons that hate one another.

If teams tie, Cards come here as SF owns season series.
On other hand, SF loses that to Pirates, so they need to finish ahead of them to play here.
Pirates great at home, very ordinary on road, tho hottest team going now.
STL also great at home, under .500 on road.

Greinke had SF eating out of his hand last night. No one could lay off pitches out of the zone, esp the low sinkers. Pence last AB he took first pitch strike, the best pitch he saw and then flailed at 2 nowhere near a strike.
Belt did same—looked at 3 balls, swung at 3 and missed.

As for LA looking different next year, they are still gonna be tough. Kemp isn’t going anywhere and appears to have re-discovered hitting stroke. Puke is Puke, tremendous athlete from neck down. League might be getting handle on how to pitch him. Hanley likely gone as they have younger replacements on IF, maybe Uribe too. Turner has been really good this year, hopefully just a one off.

Haren has been up and down but pretty effective back end guy, and top 3 SPs very good. Even if they score less runs, SPs and Jansen are proven quality.

    • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on September 24, 2014 at 8:43 am

I disagree with Kemp. He will be a big question mark next season. He was putrid in the first half and only a monster September saved his season. However, a big part of his game – steals – is gone forever. Only 8 SBs this season and he hasn’t stolen a base since August 15th. My point being he will be 31 next season and he definitely is no longer a 5 tool player (if he ever was one). I can see him face planting next season easily or worse, going back to his familiar home – the disabled list.

Don’t see the point of throwing all the kids in vs. Kershaw. Vs. Pads, OK. But not into firestorm of Opie in LA while team is still fighting for every W. Gotta go at best with your best. Are Dodgers playing their kids?
I understand frustration of watching guys fail, but vets at least have seen him and know what he is about. How would Hudson feel with AAA LU behind him battling first place team with their ace on the mound?

    • Chipower9's avatar Chipower9 said, on September 24, 2014 at 9:09 am

I agree WillieD. No way I would trot out the line-ups that some respected Flappers suggested last night. With all due respect, the vets need to be in the line-up. If the game gets out of hand at any point, then yeah, let the kids play.

      • Chipower9's avatar Chipower9 said, on September 24, 2014 at 12:12 pm

Absolutely not. That line-up has significantly less of a chance than a snow ball’s chance in hell. And thank goodness for that. But it was an entertaining line-up, snarkk.

I am almost embarrassed to admit it, but last night’s game was hugely entertaining, despite the loss. Bumgarner’s TAKE THAT homer after the fake fight was a gem. It’s a little like Carlton’s Fisk’s famous homer: the Bosox lost that WS but everyone remembers that homer. #letsgo

BubbleGamer’s third-inning AB turned the game around. Bochy didn’t even have to use his formidable bench in the top of the eighth, because he could count on another dinger (well, in the bottom of the inning, at least).

*Gary Brown is wearing a catcher’s mask on top of his head tonight

*I’m sooooo over Pablo. He’s getting 75 mill and not a penny more.

    * Informal poll: Who does Opie plunk tonight? A. Blanco ( get it over with fast) B. Posey ( best real brawl potential) C. Pablo ( who swings at it) D. Perez ( that’s just darn mean, when did he ever hit anything? )

*Some say we should play the kids now. But Duff won’t come out of his boy cave unless he gets to pitch.

Yeah, poor Gary Brown. Only time on camera is when he’s being used as a drum. Kid seems to be taking it all in stride though.

He and Posey show how one draft pick can affect a teams fortune, good and bad.

    • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on September 24, 2014 at 10:34 am

Yep, I think Gary Brown is a great topic, though some don’t. We all know baseball draft picks are a crapshoot, generally. But, this guy was first round. First round. You know, Lincecum, Cain, Posey, Panik that round that we give Sabes credit for being so brilliant. If Giants had picked a winner OFer in that draft, or one not long ago, the Pagan injury would not be so potentially devastating. But, here we are. Brown being used as a good luck rabbit’s foot. Offseason, the Giants can’t possibly, IMO, just figure on Pagan coming back. They have got to go out and get MLB quality OFers. Pagan could be another Scutaro, and not be available, or only available for short stints — who knows? Unfortunately, the FA list sucks. They may need to trade to get what they need — trade with what is the question. Or, maybe it’s checkbook time for Yasmany Tomas…

Flabbyboxxl’s drop about the Giant’s boycotting Baggs is finally a fair, sensible shot. BF said it before, last night. As a Giants fan, I’m embarrassed and disappointed to hear this candy ass move. Baggs is the best beat guy, in a group of beat guys that basically have been fluffers for this team for years. When’s the last time the beat writers really ripped a player? It’s almost always peaches and cream. So, the clubhouse was open, meaning in that world everybody knows anything going on is fair game to report. Baggs reported the Romo-Dunston dust up. So did the LA Times, so it wasn’t going to be a secret. My question is where were Schulman and Pavlovic? Were they there, but swallowed hard and wrote nothing? Where are Bochy and Baer and Sabes to put an end to this embarrassment? The team and MLB feed off media coverage, so you take the good with the bad. This is a tiny pimple on the local media PR face of the Giants. I love the Giants, but this is really weak stuff that puts me in the rare mood of not liking the players (whoever is leading it, obviously not the rooks) much today…

Tonight is a mismatch, so I have to expect the Giants will lose this game. If they do, the odds favor a WC game in Pittsburgh, unless the Bucs overtake the Cards, and then the game would be at ATT vs. Cards. That’s the scenario of choice now. I have to think the deck is stacked against SF in a PNC wild card game. The hope there would be that Bum has been good on the road, and he’d need to shut ’em down hard for the Giants to have a shot at it. I’ll be happy to see a WC wherever it is, but being realistic, this team is so wounded now, I don’t see it going very far, even with Bum and Peavy at the top. The outfield has no pop. They desperately need at least one of Posey, Pence and Panda to get hot, and with power. Nobody’s hitting any home runs. When the Giants hit at least one HR, the win record is off the charts. Otherwise, there’s just little chance to score, IMO. When the manager leaves your pitcher in to hit for himself in the 8th down by 2 (Bum), you know things aren’t great…

    • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on September 24, 2014 at 1:15 pm

If the media was in the clubhouse when the argument between Dunston and Romo happened…Then in my opinion Baggs is out of line for reporting it. What happens in there stays in there unless a “Giant” discloses it. It shouldn’t be up to a reporter.

    • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on September 24, 2014 at 2:23 pm

The clubhouse was open at the time. Bochy cleared it of the other players and closed it down to settle the situation between the two. The rules are that if a clubhouse is open to the media, anything that happens and is said in there while it’s open is fair game to reporters. Baggarly didn’t even report what was said, he said there was a verbal altercation. The players being upset at that is bogus. If that happens in NY, the media probably prints the blow by blow obscenities…

      • wswins's avatar wswins said, on September 24, 2014 at 3:04 pm

There’s a difference between being a reporter, and being a rat. If the players are “boycotting” him, I would assume I’m not the only one who feels that way. Did he report on the reason why they were at odds? Then obviously they didn’t want him to know

  28. Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on September 24, 2014 at 3:05 pm

the one thing i’ll say in defense of the players is that Baggs did kind of a half-assed reporting job. He didn’t say what they were arguing about. If it was about Dunston banging Romo’s girlfriend vs a dispute over an unpaid poker debt vs Dunston thinking Romo wasn’t mentally focused in a game, would it make a difference to you? It would to me. Of those 3 scenarios, the only one I want reported is the one about him not being mentally focused in a game and things escalated from there…….

    • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on September 24, 2014 at 3:21 pm

At least he reported it happened. Reporters have discretion. He probably knew the genesis of the argument, maybe felt it was too personal to report the details. I have no clue. But, he did his job, unlike the other two, apparently, who either were eating a burger or decided not to report it. The LA Times reporter wrote about it in similar general terms. I think the beat reporters need to be encouraged by fans to do their jobs, and stop being frequently no more than mouthpieces for management. As for as Baggs being a “rat” as wswins has said, that’s ludicrous. Baggarly doesn’t work for the Giants. Going with that argument, Woodward and Bernstein were ultimate “rats”…

The fate of most whistleblowers usually isn’t a good one.

Doesn’t Baggarly have more access to the team since he’s with CSN, a part owner of the team, rather than the ‘regular’ beat writers?? Frankly I don’t see what the big deal is, and why the boycott. Has he pissed off players before? The only thing I can remember was the Melky thing, and he turned out to be right.

      • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on September 24, 2014 at 3:29 pm

From the Blogger Code of Conduct Rules:
“2) I will delete any troll poster who is just posting with a goal of irritation and I will delete them much quicker than I will a Flap vet (who gets the benefit of the doubt if arguing with a new player). You have to build credibility here. It’s not that hard to do.”

I must have missed when Phlab built his credibility.

    • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on September 24, 2014 at 3:27 pm

you know, I should have edited that, I wrote that a long time ago. To me, there’s a big difference between someone posting disgusting shit vs someone posting as an irritant. Irritants can be ignored rather easily, if you try. And we really don’t have enough irritants to make a big deal about it (IMO)
I’ll edit the BCCR at some point to update it. Thanks for the heads up Zumie.

      • zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on September 24, 2014 at 3:50 pm

I’m sorry, BF, but I’m just not getting you on this one. I didn’t bring up the rule so you would change the rule. I wanted you to enforce the rule. It’s a good rule, IMO. It’s one of the great things about this blog. A troll is defined as someone’s whose SOLE reason for coming to a blog is to irritate the people on the blog. Flappers are very proud of this blog. The blog is worthy of respect; there’s been some amazing heart-felt things written here over the years, in addition to some hilarious laugh-outloud stuff.
I’m just saying this as someone who holds the blog, and the Flappers, in high regard.

      • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on September 24, 2014 at 4:41 pm

Well maybe I need to hear from all the regs on this. If you guys all want me to delete Phlabby (and those like him) I could see doing it.
But it’s a slippery slope to start deleting bloggers just because they’re irritating. And really, to me, he’s just not that irritating

      • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on September 24, 2014 at 5:36 pm

I have to agree with Zumiee on this issue. This person adds nothing to the Flap discussion. He’s like a mosquito – an irritant. Normally, I would say don’t respond to him and he’ll have less reason to jack off to his posts, but that’s impossible to do. Similar to a mosquito, you end up trying to swat him. Now the MOFO is actually becoming orgasmic when Flappers like Chi vehemently calls out his bullshit. The dude feels he has won. WTF? No Flapper should be put down by some piece of shit troll Dodger fan.

The rule you have was and is still good. Please enforce it.

      • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on September 24, 2014 at 5:38 pm

Flavor, there is a big, big difference between this POS and Rooster and Sandy. As many other Flappers have pointed out (including myself), there is no “give and take” with this fucker. He drops his troll bomb on us and we have to stew and take it – or respond to the imbecile. At that point, he has won.

My feeling on the Baggs controversy is quite simple- he’s a reporter, As a beat reporter who has to establish trust and rapport, it can be delicate balance. Players and coaches should be able to speak to Baggarly off the record and he should honor that. But if Morse slugs Bochy in an open clubhouse, Baggs puts his reporter shoes on and reports what happened. It’s his job and the players should know that- and they probably do. It was an embarrassing incident and they should have just sucked it up and faced the music.

July 22, 2009: Traded by the Boston Red Sox with Argenis Diaz to the Pittsburgh Pirates for Adam LaRoche.
April 2, 2013: Selected off waivers by the San Francisco Giants from the Pittsburgh Pirates.

I don’t get any of this. How does a guy who throws 100 with location not get drafted till the 18th round? And why do you trade him? And why does the receiving team waive him? And why didn’t we hear a peep about this guy (other than the reports from Twin) until AFTER Heath Hembree got traded?

This whole Jetergasm thing seems way more over the top than the Riveragasm last year. And, given the short shelf life of closers these days, Rivera seems far more deserving of adulation — what was he, the top closer for 15 years? What should we expect the shelf life of a closer to be these days — 3 years? Beck, Nenn were really at the top of their game for what, about 5 or 6? Now, the closer basically throws gas and specialty out pitches, so the arm stress has to be huge. The Beard, a case in point. Strickland’s already got a TJ under his belt, so how long can he last? Probably not too long…

Phlabox is on permanent ignore with me anyway, so whatev.

Funny, Baggs never has ad much problem ripping into players and making snarky comments when they aren’t going well. This goes back to his days on Merc blog and still continues with stuff he tweets out (on cbs game tracker). If they don’t want to talk to him, my take is he abused a privilege. And that is their right, even if it seems petty. I’d suspect this will soon blow over if someone takes high road.

Phlabby– I’m shutting down the voting right now. It’s a landslide. Either you start interacting with us respectfully on the blog about baseball topics and cut your normal idiotic posts down to a minimum or your posts will now be edited and that’s assuming you get through the blog filter that I will drop on your ass.
But you still have a chance to avoid all of this.
Start blogging with your fellow Giants bloggers in a respectful way (see Rooster or Sandy’s posts if you want to know how to do this as a Dodger fan) and cut down the dumb ass memes and other ignorant, stupid shit you like to post that bores the fuck out of everyone. Again, no offense intended. Also, this is your only and final warning.
    your only Giants fan friend,
    Flavor

Hunter Ripken is now 3 for 42. I think that is worse than any of Nate’s droughts…

In Blanco’s defense: he hits a 2 out double on Monday night with Susac at 1B. He assumes the runner is being sent with 2 outs and that there will be a play at the plate. Despite his mistaken assumption, he gets lucky and the run scores. He has made more than one mistake on the base paths by being overly aggressive this season. Two nights later, he plays it way too safe in order to avoid looking bad. Ok, maybe not much of a defense, but an explanation . . . .

I didn’t see it, but I am defending Blanco. Let him make a mistake. He’s been hot, plays his heart out, and is STELLAR in the field. Leave my man alone. Dude ain’t no Eugenio.

        James loves Blanco, PK.
And if anyone knows Count Chocula, it is you, my man.

too bad Op burned him there.
Look at this way: SF has held LA to 7 runs total in 25 innings, and they aren’t playing any of the kids in regulation. Giants best has been equal to LA’s best.

He could’ve stole 2nd and 3rd on that pitch.

    • pawliekokonuts's avatar pawliekokonuts said, on September 24, 2014 at 8:32 pm

in Binghamton I saw a pitcher (maybe Bumgarner) pick a guy off fuckin THIRD! how often does that happen?! almost impossible for it to be Bum, though, since he’s a lefty

Phuck. Now it looks as if I GOTTA stay up. It’d be huge if we can steal a win off Hershawl.

Blanco would’ve tagged up on that…
