When Bad Meets Awful
Today we have the forces of two weaknesses colliding. Two broken titans unleashing the opposite of Hell on each other. A bad pitcher vs an offense that can’t score that’s also missing the only two guys who drove in runs yesterday. I don’t know what our line up will look like but apparently it will require Jarrett Parker to have the game of his life. He’s so unknown to me that I originally spelled his first name “Jarod” until I decided to look it up.
So a weakened, withered and bored fan base turns its tired eyes to Jarrett Parker et al for an unlikely power burst.
Still, Ruby De La Rosa….
time to take the shine off her……
I think a little rough patch like this is where the steady hand of Bochy comes through. No need to panic. Let guys get their scheduled rest and see if someone like Parker or Arias can step up and have a nice game.
I just found out today that Prince Fielder uses a siren sound for his walk-up song. I think that’s pretty awesome.
Bochy has waived the white flag today with this lineup. Reverse pyschology? — send out a capitulation lineup to get maximum offense…
Bochy’s sticking with his substitution pattern, with what’s worked for the “3 in 5,” though the ’15 Giants have less talent than those other teams, overall, in the sense that Father Time and injuries take their toll.
How disturbing that Pence is out again. We were used to thinking of him being indestructible. With one awful pitch from a minor leaguer in Spring Training, his ’15 season got turned upside-down, and now we don’t know what we’re going to get from him this season.
Panda-watch:
He has two hits today so far, one of them a triple, and….the Red Sox are losing 8-0 at the moment.
I’m not really missing Panda these days. Onward, upward…
I’m not missing him either, but I find him a quasi-interesting side-story to the season. He, Han-Ram, and Ortiz envisioned a non-stop party in Boston this season. And suddenly the Red Sox look old and not all that talented. The Blue Jays are just putting a beat-down on them this weekend.
Yeah could give a rats ass about Panda. Zumie your getting to obsessed over fat boy’s daily updates..
I understand your point, but I only post those when the blog is a little slow in traffic.
Point taken Z,
No worries..
The other 3B-3B subplot some of us are enjoying involves Josh Donaldson in Toronto and what’s his name Lawrie in Oakland. Donaldson dared to tweet his dismay over the wintry dismantling of the a’s roster so Beano dismantled Donaldson, too. Pennyball.
Red Sox fans, losing hope:
When do pitchers and catchers report?

Can a whole season get rained out?

No, but maybe we can convince
the MLBPA to go on strike again. Itβs been 20+ years since the last one, itβs high time.

Unwatchable

This is so bad, NESN should go tape-delay the rest of the season. Live is just too painful to watch.

ESPN will probably still feature RSox v. Yankees at every possible opportunity. Yechhhh….
Giants playing second string on the broadcasts, too.
Greenwald and Randy Wynn on the radio? WTF?
I guess after 3 WS wins, the Bcasters are coasting, with Flemm doing ESPN work to keep him interested before Miller retires, and Kruk and Kuip taking the occassional days off “on assignment”, especially with Kruk’s muscle illness possibly part of it. 5 years max, maybe earlier, and this broadcast team will be turned totally, with Flemm maybe leading it. Whatever it will be, I’m not looking forward to it…
As much as I like the K & K team on TV, and all the folksy stuff with the crowd; I’m more convinced than ever that Kuiper is much better on radio broadcasts. He just gets a jolt of energy doing radio, and having to fill in all the commentary. In a sense, it’s too bad he’s not doing the thing he’s better at.
I don’t ever recall a broadcast without both K&K. Very odd. Is it Hank or his son Doug?
Doug.
Guy puts me to sleep even more than his dad did…
Yeah it will be a sad day when Kruk&Kuip hang up the mic( figure they might go out together) and the Giants turn it over to Flemming& Greenwald, I’m feeling nauseated just thinking of that.
The Padres are trying to get back into the division conversation, but they have to prove that they’re more than just a .500 team. They’re a surprisingly dull team to watch, btw. Kemp’s season has turned out to be not very special, so they don’t have a lot of pizazz to them.
Posey out of the LU?
Guess their wasn’t enough chemistry between him and Heston after his no- hitter last start.
And if the kid throws well, we can cross that one off the list. Posey can’t catch everyone all the time for 162.
Johnny Sanchez threw his with freaking Eli behind the plate and Hector was catching Lincecum for one of his.
I just don’t buy that argument, that one C is better for the SP than another.
Hey, you got the ball, you try and throw what you want, when and where.
I really hope that every AL position on the All Star team is filled by a Kansas City Royal. I think this is hilarious what is happening with the voting.
Gee, I didn’t see that coming.
McDP lives up to his name, as if on cue, yet another DP to start off his first start since being called back up.
I ask again, WTF is this guy here? He has earned NO Giants capital to burn, he will not be back next year. He plays only one position. So, it has to be to get some use from his contract, which is a total BS reason for him to be here. The boobirds were out already. I’d have no problem at all booing this guy, it’s the only way to tell the management that this is unacceptable. Is Duvall worse that this guy?
Sheezus…
Something’s never change, you throw McDP a bone/start and what’s he do?
Inning ending DP..
As my uncle used to say when one of us stoners would knock over a beer in his apt where we were partying, “Oh hard to f-ing believe.”
That is just unreal that Macbuzzkill did it again.
Waiver wire, please.
With that desperately depleted lineup who the hell you gonna bat fifth? Well obviously the right wrong one.
Sick of McGoof coming in and hitting into double plays….. Dangit! Put Duffy in (tired Duffy is better than a rested McG). π¦
Can Bochy give McDP the rest of the day- off for mentally incapable to play?
Pfffttt! Gold glove lost on one play. lqtm.
Craw gets back the GG after that play. π
Doug Greenwald — too many “uhs”…
Crawford should just get caught stealing second and get it over with.
Like a Swiss watch.
That every hour rings twice?..
Casey should consider the strikeout the next time he’s in that spot. They all have to contribute as best they can.
driving and listening to the radio when McDP was up. This is getting ridiculous, fucking dump this sack of shit already.
I’m curiously rooting for McDP to hit into a 3rd DP this game. It might hasten his departure. Again…
“Uh”, this isn’t looking good…
with almost nothing to cheer for I guess a standing ovation for Parker is going to have to do
Giants fans weren’t cheering for Parker’s first MLB hit.
They were cheering for ANY Giants hit…
Duffy up, this better be a double-switch.
I’m eating rally pasta.
I was feeling really good about that pasta.
Giants are 9th in the NL in home field BA at .249, LAST in runs scored at home; first in away BA at .289 (and by a huge margin of 21 points, the 2nd best away BA is .268 by Arizona), and 2nd in away runs scored…
With no Flemming on the radio I had to listen in to Randy Winn and Doug Greenwald, I thought they did pretty well together but damn, the radio feed could be a complete batter ahead. I had to switch back to the video, because I don’t think I’ve ever seen this many DPs in one game.
between the announcing crew on the radio and all the stupid s*** going on in this game I declare this the worst game of the year
Second that.
Are the Giants paying attention in this game?
DBacks steal third without a play. WTF?
At this point, I’m glad I didn’t pay for a Club Level seat to watch this abomination…
Team wide suckitude….damn did anyone sleep on the flight back from NY?
If Bochy keeps bringing in Kontos this often, in August he’s going to have an arm that looks like a lamb Gyro…
Zumiee, do you have any error proof wine to go with that rally pasta?
The most logical thing to do after this game is DFA Giggles and bring up Perez…
Missed it by that much.
having to listen to Randy Winn regale us about how he balanced 2 sports in college is like fingernails on a chalkboard
Try listening to F.P. Santangelo, and his buddy Carpenter back here for the Nats. Inane blather at its top.
If the Giants try to bring FP back here when they need a new announcing team in a few years, I’m going to Lourdes to pray for a miracle to stop it…
I don’t know what Lourdes is or believe in prayer, but I might join you on that trip.
I upped for the premium MLB package this year, so I get to chose what broadcast I get. I know I’m a homer, but even if I wasn’t, it had to be worth the extra 10 bucks not to hear all the Yahoos each team had to offer, when the Giants were away..
Lourdes is Madonna’s daughter…
Ok, I’ll pray with ya at the unibrow.
I’d still like to know what Winn started taking after the Giants got him at the 2005 deadline…
Much bigger checks…
This is so bad I looked up Bill Hayes MLB numbers. Derp.
Giants are playing like they want to get this overwith so they can go to the Dubs game…
Didn’t know yesterday that Lamb struck out vs. Broadway.
An early Genesis reference; cool!
As good a time as any to PR for McDP
Been on the road. The Berkshires. I walked a labyrinth at Kripalu Yoga and Health Center. Saw a play about menstruation (sort of). That was Friday. The Giants haven’t won since all this. My fault.
What’s next, a play about enlarged prostates?
That would really piss me off.
Slowly…
Good one, Tom. The play is “The How and the Why.” It was actually very good, to my great surprise.
I’ll call my play “Low Flow”…
Maxwell officially sucks.
The Warriors will save the sports day!
Thanks, Flappers, from sparing me the agony of actually checking the scores and the box score.
Giants so far against Dbacks have scored 2 runs in 3 games.
I’m with James, I blame the pitching…
The scrubinis are playing like scrubinis. Who’da thunk it?
All of us?…
Not sure why Goldy was running.
Hilarious. They have Giggles at bat.
McDP with a man on first, and he walks.
Nice AB…
I guess ending with another DP is appropriate.
The broadcast sucked, the Giants suck at home, I think this night calls for booze and in my case, lots of it.
Get dem Seattle bums tomorrow.
Yeah, Clown, I agree. This one is a top nominee for stinker of the year.
Bad on every level.
8 straight losses at ATT for SF. New record for home futility since the park opened.
Marty Lurie has to be thankful he doesn’t have to talk this POS over for the next 3 hours — the Dubs pregame starts in 20 minutes.
Go Dubs!…
Great 2-out catch by Pederson in the bottom of the ninth. Sold out for it, into the wall.
Extra innings they go.
5 GIDP? In 9 innings? What’s the record?
Not sure, but as Double Play games go, this one was impressive.
I remember a game Marichal pitched, I think vs. Astros, that had maybe 6?
I’m sure Loo’s got this one covered.
I would think that if it was a record (or tied one) we would have heard. So I’m assuming 6 in 9 innings has never been eclipsed but as you said, let’s wait on Loo for an answer
Willie nailed it. It was actually 7. I had to look it up. Didn’t remember…
http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/HOU/HOU196905040.shtml
Month away from graduating HS and still at home, I remember watching this one on TV.
Marichal lost a tough one. Looks like a getaway day LU too.
Same Clyde King that was pitching coach for Yanks?
Wow. 7. Dooley Womack beats Juan Marichal. Bobby Ethridge our 3B.
The single most laughable thing I’ve seen in a long time: Lebron complaining about a thrown elbow by GS and arguing for an offensive foul.
Cavs-Warriors a great game so far.
Like the way Warriors are attacking the basket, gotta finish more and cut down on turnovers (aaarghhh!)
On that double team, Steph can step back with the dribble to get more vision and then maybe cross over or pass without a big in his face.
J R unreal…as jaylen just said he can shoot you out of it too.
Thought tonight W’s would finally blow out them out. Just a heads scratcher to me why this series is even close. W’s underperforming…like
Klay Thompson… 10 pts a game?
Thataboy Klay!…..a few more like that would be welcomed.
You think Steph knows that there’s a 7 out of 8 chance that his wife divorces him when he’s done knocking down those impossible threes?

“Curt Schilling made $112 million over 20 years, but went so broke that in 2013 he begged the Baseball Hall of Fame to return his bloody sock from a famous pitching performance.”
This is the guy who thinks he’s always the smartest guy in the room . . . Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy. π
I had/have some sympathy for him after I read a very long expose on ESPN about his cancer and its aftermath — and Schilling’s different view of the world, apparently, afterward.
OK, I do believe in 2nd chances. Prior to this, I considered him a Republican retard, who had no sympathy for the downtrodden.
Hey, maybe that’s still the case. I don’t know. But reading his own words about his cancer related to dipping, he seemed to be pretty tough on his own failures. Does he extend that to a compassionate worldview? Don’t know. Do I / would I? Sometimes. Deo volente. Inshallah.
I’ve seen the players’ sides in lawsuits against their former agents and advisors. (No divorce cases, thank the lard.) Those guys have many vultures circling overhead from the day they get their first pay check. (“while all about [them] reel shadows of the indignant desert birds”) In general, the players get ripped off.
Bloomsday coming up.
The Warriors did a nice job of going to the rim tonight, in addition to nailing outside shots. They got to the free throw line well (even though they missed several.) They dictated things out there. And the fastbreak 3-point shots have basically disappeared for a while. Their fastbreaks are either going to the rim, or they’re pulling the ball out and setting up an offense.
