A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

The Panda’s Sad Demise

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 19, 2015

I wish I knew a Red Sox fan. Actually, I do know one. Maybe I’ll call him. I’m truly interested in how the Red Sox fans are feeling about our beloved Panda. Besides sucking this year, he’s now slipping away from games to go check out the hotties on his instagram account. Think about that. So unfocused on the game, he’s not just thinking about the ladies he’s LEAVING THE GAME to go check them out on his phone.

He took some shit from Giants fans but deep down he was always loved and will be forever. But that’s due to the 3 World Series he helped us win. He’s bequeathed the Red Sox no trophies. But he is taking 100 million from them.

Anyone got a pic of the chick he was so desperate to click “like” on? Hope she was worth all the shit he’s getting now……

I am with Sarge. Many times I have said I appreciate Pablo’s contributions to three in five, but with the way he acted out during contract negotions talking crap about his Giant team mates, I could give a flying fuck about him. No love here for Pablito. Fuck him…if he flames-out and is DFA’d down the road, I could give a rat’s ass. Perhaps some would think it sad, but I do get a bit of satisfaction when he is struggling or pulls some dumb-ass shit like this.

Great win last night. Vogey is quite the work of art. One game the dude gets lit-up like a christmas tree, and the next game he pulls out a gem like last night’s effort. I just want to see the boys go take at least two from the bumbinos this weekend. BEAT LA!

Guess it’s out of the question, but any way we can get a moratorium on Sandoval updates etc.?
I really don’t care what he does or what happens to him, any more than guys who did less for SF like AJ.
The $100 mil offer to him was dumb anyway; glad he went to Boston and SF saved the money and ultimately it gave Duffy an opportunity to show what he can do, which has been great. Sando is non issue to SF.

Time for Belt to get back in the groove. He is 6 for his last 40 and batting .170 for month of June, with an OB of .250 (so no walks either) and OPS in .500 range. After a great May he hasn’t been able to sustain production and btw is only hitting .239 off LHP.
He stung a couple up where flyballs went to die in Safeco, but hitting during warm weather in LA should be a lot better, and as has been noted no Kershaw or Greinke, LA’s 2 best SPs by far. With the way Pagan has been going and without Pence, Belt in middle of the order needs to start hitting and producing.
Giants rotation for this 3 game set is Heston Hudson and Lincecum, so LU is gonna need to score early and often.

I find the Pablo drivel old, too, but I do not think we should put a clamp on anyone’s ability to comment on whatever they want (outside of troll action). If you don’t particularly care for a post…just cruise on by, IMO.

Agree with you on Belt, and would add that Pagan needs to get it going, too.

Wille: Belt drew two walks last night, scored both times and was responsible for igniting the initial rally with his BB. See my remarks from last night on that. Agree with you on being fed up to here on Panda pabulum. He’s history here.

Full disclosure, I do not have a cell phone.
People’s fixation with these borders on ridiculous to me.
I see guys and gals walking around downtown where I work totally oblivious to surroundings (or car traffic in a crosswalk) head buried and tapping away in their phones, and customers in store think nothing of carrying on loud personal conversations or conducting business calls for 20 minutes while looking around.

Reminds me of Last Poets, “Jones coming down”.

    • chipower9's avatar chipower9 said, on June 19, 2015 at 7:38 am

Hey, it is a choice, and you are the exception. I have had one for years (was an early adopter, if you will), and I find it hard to imagine life without one (although I do put mine down regularly). They are a great tool, but like most anything, can be abused. I know about what you speak (the way folks are oblivious), and that bugs me. Many people have no fucking ettiquite when it comes to using their phone. I try to be cognizant of how and when I use mine.

But people walking around oblivious to their surroundings are annoying and should be smacked in the back of the head. TIme and place and all that. It is especially annoying when people walk real slow while others are trying to get somewhere. Or people having to read shit and text while walking down a stairway.

He did not like all the rules and discipline the Giants imposed on him. So he left. He comments were and still are childish at best. Degrading to his fellow teammates at worst. Pablo can do what he wants now. He will blow off the Boston fans and Media. He has a MVP and 3 rings. He is still playing strictly to have fun.

The thing I always said that ticked me off about Panda was that his constantly being out of shape disrespected his teammates and organization. Our fear of him going out of control after signing a longterm deal looks now well founded. The main thing is waste of talent. Panda was a very good player for SF, I think he had the skills to be great. For some reason, he’s chosen to largely waste that potential. The Giants lucked out , maybe, that he left. Though I think in the Bochy clubhouse he would have fared better than Boston’s. No way in hell the Giants knew Duffy could do what he’s doing now. What a nice surprise and contrast to Panda’s travails…

I’ve also had a smart phone (Moto X, which I love) for the last year and a half. Great devices, except as many of you have indicated – they are intrusive and rude when you are with a friend, especially on a date. I always turn mine off when I am with the latter and avoid using mine when I am with friends or family.

So the McCovey Chronicle is asking what happen to the rotation when Cain and Peavy come back.
    http://www.mccoveychronicles.com/2015/6/18/8808449/sf-giants-rotation-jake-peavy-matt-cain

When I first thought about it, I thought Heston gets sent back down (damn you, options, damn you) and Vogs back to the pen, but they make the point of Timmy and Vogs to the pen. First off, at the start of the year I thought it was strange to have two long guys but now we’re talking three? When Matt and Jake went down, Vogs and Heston got the call with Petit staying in the long guy roll, which the team rarely used him as (I don’t get that shit at all). It’ll be great to get those two guys back, but this could go strange rather quickly. Timmy is in a contract year, does he want to showcase himself as a starter, or is he good showing that he’s a team guy? Vogs, seems to make a ritual out of his starts, same routines, etc. could he pull off having his game face on 24/7 in the pen? And, what is up with Yusmeiro? Is he a long guy. spot starter or trade bait?

After all that, is it Strickland and Broadway that go down or does Broadway hit the highway with a position player?

  27. Carstie Clausen's avatar Carstie Clausen said, on June 19, 2015 at 3:01 pm

What i didn’t like about it was that they rated Hudson as the #3 and Cain as the four. We all pretty well know Hudson’s limits now ~ five innings/80 pitches, whichever comes first. I’d either send him to the pen or team him with Timmy as a twosome for 9 innings. They would switch roles as starter and vulture game to game. Without knowing where Cain and Peavy are gonna be at here’s my rotation: Bumgarner, Heston, Cain, Peavy, Tim and Timmy duet. Vogie as second long-man. Don’t know if pairing a couple starters has been tried before but it’s the only scenario i find appealing, Who knows, it could even work.

Several Warriors got nostalgic on stage, looking up at a nearby apartment building beside Lake Merritt. They’d all rented places there when they first arrived here. Only three people shot, by the lake but blocks away from the stage, and those folks weren’t hurt badly, it seems. All in all, a pretty nice, sunny day for my hometown.

The SP numbers game does bring up an interesting point: if most of them are 5 inning guys, then there aren’t enough bridge guys like Kontos and Petit. Peavy joins rotation that’s 6, plus Petit Kontos Lopez Affeldt Strick Romo Casilla. My guess is someone, likely Affeldt, gets a phantom DL injury for 15 days.
Or, someone is traded…and imo the guy who would bring the most value back (as in OF help) is Romo

Barry would probably average 40 a game with the 3-pointer now in order, which wasn’t back then. The ’75 Dubs could play some D, too. George Johnson could rim protect, and Johann could get tough on the boards. I don’t know who would win, but maybe I’d go with the current Dubs in 7…

Not sure I’ve ever seen Affeldt bat before…

Affeldt gets his cut. Nice inning.

Blade, I was thinking D2X would save Van Slyke for later, but it ended up not mattering. The Giants kept scoring.

IF Affeldt finishes this he can get a safe, right?

I had to Google photos of Claude Osteen. They ‘re right; he’s a Jim Nabors twin.

    • djloo27's avatar djloo27 said, on June 19, 2015 at 10:22 pm

He could pitch 300 innings in his sleep. Very underrated guy…

I remember having a baseball card of Osteen. I was a diehard Yankee fan as a little boy, so I hated the Dogs even way back then. In the photo on the card, Osteen was wearing some kind of windbreaker material under his shirt. Very shiny blue, looked wet. I always hated that card. Why is that guy wearing a shiny blue windbreaker under his shirt? Ah, the things we remember….

I’m with ya, Paul. This one baffled me as a little boy:

If anybody ought to be able to throw strikes, it should be “Right Down Broadway”, but apparently not. Dude… you’ve got a 4-run lead in the 9th inning, WTF…

    • Paul Sorensen's avatar Paul Sorensen said, on June 19, 2015 at 10:26 pm

Sorry, 5 run lead. Even more so.

  71. Paul Sorensen's avatar Paul Sorensen said, on June 19, 2015 at 10:32 pm

Yeah… all the discussion of which pitchers get *dismissed* when Cain and Peavy (ha, I’ll believe it when I see it about Peavy) come back, I think Broadway just partly answered that one….
