Wednesday!
Short memories are the standard during a baseball season but I think it’s pretty easy to argue that last night’s game was the best game of the year. Coming off The Nightmare in Chicago against a good Houston team, Bum k’s 12, Belt hits 2 bombs, and we cruise to a 3-1 victory.
Now we get to find out if Hest-by-Hest has hit the wall at the end of Summer’s Warning Track or if he’s ready to push through and take his game to yet another unseen level.
Day game today…..
Last night was the first time in MLB history that all 15 home teams won…Heston had his best game of the year (excluding the no-no) in Houston earlier this year. Feldman holding down the fifth spot in the Astros rotation as they rest their young guns McCullers and Vasquez for the stretch run. Defineltly a favorable matchup for the G-men.
that’s a stunning stat, but inevitable, right? what about when there were fewer home teams?
Pawlie, according to this NY Daily News article, the previous best performance by home teams was 11-0, and that happened six times, most recently in 1989.

I read from one of the beat guys after the first Cubs game that Heston has struggled most in bandbox-type parks (Cincy, Colorado, Texas, Wrigley). He’s done just fine at home with a 2.57 ERA, although only a 5-4 record, so get him some runs and we should be OK today.
I was offline and . . . never mind. Let’s say the Giants and I had a good night. (They had a great night.) What a treat to wake up and find Bumgarner had one of his best regular-season games, and the Beltway was a highway to Victoryville. edddddd’s pep talk did it.
too kind, oh wordsmith a’flappin’. Two words:
Go Gigantes!
Great victory last night…let’s add to the misery that is the Stros road record.
Four in Six? Why Not?!
Humm Baby – Let’s Do It Again!
Like are chances today.
Marty Feldman has never won a game at ATT, 0-4..7 plus ERA.. Chris Heston faced the Stros once in Houston and threw a CG…
According to Jenkins in the Chron, Bochy admits Panik unlikely to come off DL when eligible due to continuing back issues; unable to hit for a week.. Not good.
Still not sure I’d be all in on 3 yrs/$65 mil for Shields, but he’d look a lot better than Vogs and Cain out there next 2 games. I’d bet Sabes would prefer younger cheaper in house option/FA (as in Leake) for next year behind Bum Peavy Heston Cain. Hope more he’s out there Cain can get it together.
I still like Max as a back up, and he hustled into a hit last night and came all the way around to score. Seems more like Astro of this year type of player with power but not a lot of contact but plays a good OF.
Not sure any amount of bench strengthening would overcome not having at least 3 good starts out of every 5 the rest of the way. Good pitching could readily overcome the absence of Panik, but adding a bat won’t offset crap starters. 3 out of 5 for 4 in 6.
Excellent point.
Succinctly and cogently put. I hope I can get #3outof5for4in6 trending on Twitter. #doubtful
Essence of season in that second sentence(and in pen meltdowns too)…Giants have been scoring runs all year and moving Aoki back to leadoff instead of Pagan should be blessed relief. Blanco made couple nice grabs last night in CF, fine OF.
Whether they can prevent other teams from out scoring them, we’ll see.
Well, there are no guarantees that adding someone like BG James would provide those three quality starts out of five. Actually, I think when Leake is back you can expect a quality start more times than not out of Bum, Heston, Peavy, and Leake…Cain being the wildcard. I would love to see us add another arm…just not enamored with “that arm.”
I still think upgrading the bench is a priority, especially since Bochy said yesterday that Panik is two weeks away (and we know how backs and 2nd basemen have gone over the past five years…Glass, Scoots, etc.).
heard on the radio this am that Bum has 35 k’s since his last walk. That’s incredible.
And yet, this team that scores runs could not get him wins. Admittedly his era jumped a bit there but my memory says he threw some low scoring innings and the Gmen went limp.
Yeah, for all our fuckups on that last roadie, we really didn’t fall too far behind the Dogs. 2.5 is nothing as it could be a lot worse. The pisser is we keep getting right up to them and then fading back. The rest of August its very important to hang with the dogs, and maybe get some breathing room if possible. I’d feel so much better winning the division . . . . . . .
Yeah, I was looking at the standings after the game last night thinking the club is well positioned. The NL West is there for the taking. Who wants to go into Pitt and try and punk them again? No thanks.
heck, maybe Timmy Lincecum comes back to show ’em all, with a f*ck yeah resurgence AS A STARTER
I noticed Lincecum in the dugout last night, enthusiastically joining in the celebrations. If the PT’s worked and the rotation needs the arm, who knows. Maybe he has a strong month or two in him.
With Lincecum and Vogelsong in the BP (well, Timmy still on the DL), I think our depth is fine at SP. I would look to fill other needs, first (back-up IF and OFer). Damned, Zobrist sure would be a great asset to have right now.
Pavlovic on the Comcast site: “‘It went fine,’ Bochy said of Lincecum’s bullpen session. ‘He’s going to throw another one. We’ll see how he’s doing after that and then maybe ramp it up. He’s not quite ready yet, to be honest. I can’t say he’s close.’
“The timing here is kind of a moot point, because there’s no way Lincecum is in the plans before Sept. 1, when rosters expand. As for Hudson, it’s also unlikely that he’ll return at any point this month. . . . “
With 50 games to play Belt has matched his previous HR high in fewer ABs and is on pace to improve on his 2013 season. Time to break out the saran wrap?
they would love Lincecum in Seattle. Put Belt, Timmy and Crick together and get us a king?
#flightsO’fantasy #nocharge
His velocity is down and no thanks. Tired of all these pitchers who best years are no longer in front of them
Aoki-san back at the top of the line-up…
1. Nori Aoki (L) LF
2. Matt Duffy (R) 3B
3. Buster Posey (R) C
4. Hunter Pence (R) RF
5. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
6. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
7. Gregor Blanco (L) CF
8. Ehire Adrianza (S) 2B
9. Chris Heston (R) P (11-6, 3.48 ERA)
I know he kind of sputtered a bit last time out, but I would like to see Clark Kent get another start…
巨人に行きます
(go Giants!)
スイープ!
(Sweep!)
I’m all for giving Kelby some more starts, too. He’s still batting 50 points higher than the Big OOO.
I am not sure the kid is ready for prime time, but WTH…he can’t be much worse than 3O…
Listening to a game on the radio recently Kuiper was saying that Tomlinson couldn’t handle a couple routine plays at 2b. Maybe Bochy sees Agent 0 as a better player defensively. Plus he’s a veteran now (grin).
Could be. Do not recall the game, but Tomlinson did butcher a couple of plays that, IMO, Panik makes all day long. I just expect more from 3O for as long as he has been around.
Manny Trillo or Renie Stennett could still give us better AB’s then OOO anytime..
Small sample, but Tiburone Blanco is hitting .400 against Marty Feldman Eyes in 5 AB, and Pence hitting a nice .500 against him in 6 AB.
That rendition of the national anthem was the worst singing at the yard since Tony Bennett wheezed God Bless America to the finish line last fall.
The game is on the MLB channel on TV back here, well sort of. The game is on a split screen while a bunch of know-it-alls argue with AJ Pierzynski. Wow, do fans really enjoy this shite? Shut up and show the game.
Seems like a lifetime ago AJ Dickinski was on the Giants
His stint on MLB just now sure seemed like a lifetime.
Yeah, stupid game is blacked out here. Get the audio tho.
Happy 100th birthday Donald Pellmann, enjoying the game. Awesome.

Way to get it started, Blanco.
Heston rolling along with some solid D and a little luck. Gotta put some runs on the board.
What happened to Aoki?
They haven’t said, joe. Pulled him. Possibly dizziness but that is just speculation by Kuiper. Nothing reported.
Thanks
He hit a homerun, so be it. What’s really irritating is that we can’t hit this stiff Feldman.
Win or lose, the Giants almost always seem to sleepwalk through weekday afternoon games, especially at home…
Solid bounce back outing for Heston.
Now let’s make sure to use 17 relievers.
They’ve had 2 days off…
All right, Giants. Get that run back (Crawford).
Utley talks heating up according to Fareed…
Yeah, Just saw that. Philly may take prospects.
I guess we won’t be seeing Panik any time soon if ever. Can’t be giving up much for Utley.
Nice Crawford.
Who are they bringing in to face Adrianza? Dave Giusti?
Beat tweets say Aoki left after feeling lightheaded.
Yeah, Aoki feeling lightheaded. Pulled from the game.
Anybody think Kontos, Duffy and Blanco are all using something this year?
If Kontos was using something, it appears he’s stopped.
Seattle with a no-hitter in the ninth.
Iwakuma completes the no-hitter. Seattle’s season has been a dud, but this is a nice moment for them.
Lucky we didn’t lose Maxwell there
Seems like this game is going in the loss column … Too many wasted opportunities for such a “potent” offense … other teams certainly don’t have as many issues with hitting home runs in this yard as we do … another typical effort against the latest ‘Cy Young’ … now the Doggrells will be slowly but surely pulling away from us.
Neshek is the guy Morse hit his big HR against in the playoffs. When Neshek went to Houston as a free agent it seemed strange at the time, but has worked out well for him and Houston.
Bleh. Fuck Greggie . . .
If my time was valuable, this game would have been a waste of it…
Stupid ass game. Scott Feldman. What a joke……..
What a dispiriting game. 2nd 2-0 loss this week. They miss Panik. Badly.
more interesting than the game, I’m tripping hard on some major deja vu right now. Eh. It’s gone. What a stupid ass game…..
I’m having amnesia and de ja vu at the same time.
We shoulda put Donald Pellmann in.
Get a little payback on the Nats tomorrow.
Or Earl the Pearl . ..
Missing more time pretty much ensures that Aoki won’t get enough plate appearances to opt out at the end of the year. Can Utley play LF?
Chase Utley and Manny Pacquiao were born on the exact same day. I wonder if they know that.
Just finished watching last 2 innings of Bjays v A’s which is going on about two bocks from my hotel. Couldn’t go, had biz dinner. Didn’t miss much, A’s got clobbered, they look horrible. Sounds like SF getting tested with injuries– tough to be consistent with guys going down all the time…
Yeah, and as James said, the starting rotation is probably the biggest *hole* that needs fixing, but if they had strengthened the bench a bit earlier (as most Flappers have been saying for months), the injuries might not seem so devastating. I’m sorry, but it’s pretty pathetic that the team is in a pennant race and Adrianza’s name keeps getting pencilled in to the starting lineup. That should NOT be happening. Not blaming Mr. Out Of Options for tonight’s loss, but it’s not a good look for a contending team and defending World Champion.
I still beg to differ and believe upgrading the bench (IF and OF) is more critical than a starter. Once Leake is back I have confidence that more times than not you will get a quality start from Mad, Heston, Peavy and Leake. Cain is still a wild card…
Fucking get Utley already…supposedly they have gotten specific on the prospects to be a part of the deal. Then go dumpster dive and get an OFer who is an upgrade over the Silver Hammer. I like his D, and he does show occasional pop, but no way I want to see him out there on a regular basis while we wait for Aoki and Pagan to return.
effing Cubs may not lose another came all month long. aim at the bums never sounded truer
Chiefs win 9th in a row, Burriss gets a few hits and RBIs and runs bases, team only 15 games under .500, sweet night at the yard.
C’mon, Nats! (Tonight, not tomorrow.) Hey, anybody going to the upcoming SF-WASH games? My buddy Pat Hogan (ran for mayor) is making the trip to see his Nats play our Giants. Let me know. Maybe I can connect him.
Pawlie – my daughter and I are going to the Sunday game (meeting a 2nd cousin who is living in the City). We are sitting in club level, 233.
I got bad feeling about this series against the Nats … this could be the proverbial nail in our coffin … Even if we get the bats going (which I’m not feeling confident about) I don’t think our pitching is gonna hold up … Peavy is due for stinker but either way it will probably be the ‘predictability of unpredictability’ syndrome: the days we generate offense our pitching will sink us … the days our pitching keeps us close, we may score, but not enough … Fuck, I hate this … It’s too depressing … time to get my forehead tight … wake me next April …
I think you had one too many shots of pessimism, Lisle. Hey, we have to call it the way we see it, right…
I am making no predictions one way or the other…one day, one game at a time. Just need to stay close to the bums.
First we were missing Cain and Pence. Then Aoki and Pagan; now it is Panik and Leake and Susac. Not to mention a struggling (physically) BP, what’s up with Casilla’s focus and our ever valuable 6th starter rotation player(s).
I keep hearing Big Flavor’s 2010 words: “it is amazing that we have not had any serious injury problems.”
and it was.
Well, I am off to a full day of commuting from Folsom to CoCo County, then Alameda, Solano twice and back home. If I am lucky part of this drive will be faster than 30mph. Wish me luck and fuck the Nats.
Edd…I work in Folsom. Give me a shout sometime and let’s meet up for lunch.
