Swatting Nats
So lemme get this straight: a revitalized Stephen Strasburg comes to town to take on Voggy who’s just been snatched out of the bullpen. Most of our outfielders are hurt. It looks bad.Real bad.
S-Squared will probably get his K’s but he’s certainly not unhittable. And Matt Williams is more than half way to polishing off his WMOY award. I’m not a Williams fan. Liked him (not loved) as a player. Didn’t like him as a D-backs coach. Think he’s overrated as a manager. His players are all hotheads and Williams just stands by and watches. Or models it for them, I’m not sure which.
Washington is -126 today. Seems low.
Anyway, we could easily beat the Nats today because it’s baseball and no one knows what the fuck is going to happen……
Yeah Williams was a lot more stoic as a player than he is as a manager. He lets his emotions get the better of him now. And he has all his managing life.
He may get better watching a guy like Bochy, but maybe not.
Remember when Matt just got up to the show.He had the talent everyone could see that, fielding nobody better, hitting a curve ball down and away nobody worse, which led to him being shipped back down for awhile to work on laying off of it, he would get so pissed off on getting out on that curve ,you could see his face turn bright red, and he would squeeze the life out off the bat turning it into sawdust…
Op wiped them out last night, love to see Vogs do the same. Nats are currently 3 games over .500, 3 and a half behind surging Mets and couple back of Giants–7th best record in the NL.
These guys are at top of my most disliked list. Love to see SF send them further into oblivion and Williams along with them.
Slight mistake on Williams, nobody better playing 3rd for the Giants..
The best all-time is Brooks Robinson no doubt!! The human vacuum , he was amazing to watch, unbelievable reflex, single handily made the Big Red machine look silly with his plays in the W/S, he was special ..
I would especially like to see a poorly officiated game behind the plate. Love watching Harper get kicked out of games.
“Anyway, we could easily beat the Nats today because it’s baseball and no one knows what the fuck is going to happen……”
POTD, in my book.
the national media guys are jizzing all over eachother’s faces because they think Stras has “found his curve ball.” Maybe. But those 12 k’s came vs the pathetic Rockies so excuse me if I want to see him do this again before believing he’s back.
And has he ever really been here? Wouldn’t surprise me in the least if it turns out that he’s a defective cyborg sent to destroy us all. Or himself. Whichever comes first.
As I read this it is the first inning and Jon says: “Stras is having trouble finding his groove”
Good thread Craig, and so true. Love the final sentence.
what’s up with the ads? I thought you didn’t have those.
Ads? I am seeing no ads?
Well, I sure as hell hope for better results today. I left work early yesterday so that I could get home and watch the rest of the game. Pfffftttt…what a piece of shit game. Heston did his part (that is two quality starts in a row for our starters), but the bats failed again. Adrianza has to go back to Sac…and as I have said before, I really do not want to see Maxwell out there regularly. Sure, he plays a decent OF and shows “occasional” power. And no, Juan fucking Perez is not the answer either. Upgrade the fucking bench, already.
Singing to thy choir Chi..
We’re all on the same page with this bunch of misfits on the infield and OF, Bench!! Yet when the time came at the deadline, they didn’t think twice about adding a OF or infielder to strengthen the bench. They did take a Leake on themselves I guess and added a starter, who’s now possibly turning into Beltran 2, sure hope not….
I think Leake will be fine, and will be a good addition when he comes back. I have read that he continues to pass all tests and remains on track to start on Tuesday against the Cards. Tuesday is the first day in which he is eligible to come off the DL.
But I wanted them to upgrade the bench at the deadline. I was all over Parra and Zobrist, to name a few, but notta. So now we will have to go the trade route (for example, the Utley deal), or do the usual Sabevans dumpster dive.
there was some links to other weird stuff. gone now.
Remember 2012 when the Nats had Johnson managing the team and put Strasburg on the shelf for the playoffs? Something about how they’ll be contending so often that it just didn’t make sense to risk it. Given the chance would they do it the same all over again? Strasburg has hit the DL since and skipped starts here and there in the interest of health if I remember correctly. They missed out entirely in 2013, in 2014 Bochy was clearly the superior manager of the eventual World Series Champs and they’re looking up at the last wildcard spot in 2015…lulz, Nats.
Every now and then, wordpress puts an ad up and it disappears quickly. Nothing I can do about it.
Anyone think we can roll deep with Juan Perez and Maxwell in the outfield? Anyone? Bueller?
Would you go for Martin Prado as an inf/of utility guy?
When Bum K’d all 7 Astros in a row the other night it tied team record held by J Sanchez and Marichal.
On ML.Com site they had actual footage of all of the above doing it, man was that great.
Marichal’s leg kick comes all the way up to the glove, and he could do this for 2 or 3 hundred innings a year, just an amazing guy who often varied the angles and pitches he threw them from.
In the post game Bochy remembered “Johny” doing it before and had a nice smile as he thought of him.
I saw Williams play SS as a rookie, at Shea. He was up and down a few times, I recall. I’ll bet Buzzsaw and Loo were right near me on the 7 train.
ICYMI … A couple of curious tidbits: article by Jeff Passan for Yahoo Sports talking about the need to realign playoff system. Specifically, that the ‘division’ setup is not a fair representation. Also in that article, a brief mention of a subject I’ve been interested in; the near double travel miles accumulated by a team like Seattle compared to certain central division teams … I’ve often wondered if it is only coincidence that the strongest teams in both leagues are located in the geographic central regions. I did a lot flying for my work and I found it to be brutal … of course, I wasn’t an athlete.
The other article is Jessie Rogers for ESPN talking about Joe Maddon’s recent early shut-down of Jason Hammel against Brewers … I’ve been wishing Bochy would do some of that … If so, we may have had a few more W’s. Maddox seems to be taking a playoff attitude into the games whereas the Giants seem to be fostering a seemingly lackadaisical “we still got a lot of baseball left to play” attitude. Maybe we do … Maybe we don’t.
Accomplishing 4 in 6 would be an unfathomable dream come true. I’m not seriously entertaining that. I just want to see us defend our championship in an honorable and respectful manner. Still so much talk about how the Giants ‘got lucky’ and snuck in to the WS and stole it from more deserving teams. If we only realized one goal this season it would be to put all that shit talk to rest once and for all.
I know that will be incredibly difficult with all the injuries we have to our starters and the thin bench, etc, etc. Yet, it would be almost tragic not to captalize on the great seasons that players such as Posey, Craw, Duffy, Panik, and Heston (Blanco too) are having.
Go
Giants!
Blanco – CF
Duffman – 3B
Belt – 1B
Posey – C
Pence – RF
Crawford – SS
Maxwell – LF
Tomlinson – 2B
Vogelstrong – P
That bottom third of the order is a guaranteed 0 for 10.
Actually when I first spun threw those ads I thought the eyebrow one was a well trimmed vagina…
I hope you’ve never made that mistake in real life.
lulz!
Giants Have Made Offer To Phillies For Chase Utley
By Mark Polishuk [August 13, 2015 at 8:21pm CDT]
TODAY: San Francisco has made an offer for Utley and is “just waiting to hear” whether it will be accepted, GM Bobby Evans tells Bruce Jenkins of the San Francisco Chronicle (via Twitter). Evans said that he doubts a deal will be completed tonight.
We heard earlier this evening that Utley wants certain assurances regarding playing time before he’ll waive his no-trade rights. It’s not clear what Utley is seeking or what the Giants would be willing to do in that regard, though Evans has seemingly suggested that he is looking more for a part-time addition.
Yeah why start Utley, when you can start OOO?
Any player who’s 36 and batting .196 shouldn’t be dictating terms to anyone.
.
That’ll be the day. Give Buddy Holly a shot.
Panik made rookie mistakes last summer, too. Let the kid play.
Looks like Giants are picking up where they left off in D.C.
Fuckin here we go …
29 pitches 3 walks 1 HR ,
Heading for another early night for a starter not named Bumgarner…
30 pitch first .. What’s Foggysnot got in the tank70 tops? Bullies better get ready for a long night …
Strasburg always looks completely different to me. Maybe he changes over time while he’s on the DL. Either way, dude has like 5 completely different looks
Whaddya bet we don’t get a run outta this?
Fire it up, Gregor.
great first inning, way to go. Fucking gamers.
Gee, Krukow, enough already about Tomlinson. It was not a given that Crawford would even catch it, never mind that it’d be a DP. It’s just Krukow defending a pitcher. A pitcher who was down 1-0 before everyone was seated.
Well .. I’ll gladly eat crow and lots of it … Please sir, may I have some more?
it was understandable to expect nothing based off recent events…….
My boy Blanco! And Duffman! A Syracuse buddy is at the game.
How about that,Blanco smokes a triple, and duffster opposite field base hit to tie it up, 2 batters in ..
I love watching the Nats fuck up. I do not like the Nats……
I have moved in that direction, except for a few players who were in the Syracuse-to-D.C. pipleline (Manny Burriss, Steven Souza Jr.). Strasburg did not win friends in Syracuse for not tipping his cap to the fans, which he corrected this last round of rehab starts.
Well Lisle, maybe we don’t even make an out against overrated Strasburgh, which would be fine with me ..,
Yeah but … we should have had a couple more runs, don’t ya think? … I mean Pence striking out? Then Craw? … I didn’t expect anything from Minwell.
After all that work, maybe Vogs will do better with a lead.
Sometimes the O does make up for shit pitching.
Pick an archway, Craw…
While I _thought_ Vogs was looking good after the first pitch he turned that inning into more torture than ant BW 9th
I think Maxwell would be more valuable to the 49ers than the Giants…
Maxwell has a classic athletic look, that’s true. I sat behind the screen on Tues night. The Giants on deck guys occasionally moved off the circle and obscured my view of the plate. Pence looks entirely different up close. His arms and shoulders are Herculean. Altuve, btw, is not 5’6″–I don’t care what the astros say.
What is then? Bigger? Smaller?
smaller.
oh he’s definitely shorter. great player, though
You should see this guy that the Stros have here in Fresno … Can’t think of his name off hand but the dude is minuscule … Looks to be 5’2″‘in heels.
So do we get a shutdown inning for Vogs? Are more gasoline on the fire?
Amy G looks like she had some work done on her face.
I don’t like it…
I didn’t really like it before this purported *work*
If Strashamburger only has his fast ball working as the game goes on, Craw and Hunter will be on that shit.
If you want me to drop some knowledge shit on you, here goes. Barry’s final splash hit was #45. That was 8 years ago. We are now at 68. If the cove is McCovey’s, *dat ass* is Barry’s…….
Lead off triples are very nice.
Holly shit!!!
Kid sure knows how to cut corners on base running, reall impressive triple for Clark Griswold..
You think Evans just hung up on Amaro?
Lisle you missed your chance at negative immortality by an inning…..
Well, I certainly was gonna say something but Kat beat me to it … but fuck redundancy, right? So here goes … Shit at bat by Blanco … Duffman at least worked the count but the result was still a big fuckin ZERO on the board!
I think Tomlinson should higher in the order hit not sure where? Any takers?
” but not sure where”.
Hey Loo,Kid Tomlinson blew up your 0-10 bottom of the order prediction.
Of course they leave him stranded at 3rd with no outs..
I don’t think there’s anyone else named Kelby on the planet.
His initials are KAT.
That’s enough good vibes for me with initials KAT..new I liked the kid from the get go..
I’m completely off Utley after I heard he was bitching about playing time. Fuck him.
Tomlinson full time? hell yeah, bring reinforcements up in Sept.
Echoing Willie’s thoughts (and Craig, above) about the Nats. Some time ago I posted something about “hating” the Nats, and someone here commented that seemed a bit strong considering the Nats aren’t really SF’s main competitors, etc. But there is just some bad mojo with that team, and having had the opportunity to listen to their homer announcers sometimes when I’ve been back visiting my folks on the east coast over the past few years, EVERYONE associated with that team — from the announcers, to management, to most of the players, to the fans — everyone is annoying, obnoxious, arrogant, and completely undeserving of whatever greatness they all think they are due. F–k ’em all. 🙂
So who do they trade for? Papelbon, who will fit right in with that bunch
I appreciate how the Giants play the game. There is very little bitching to the umpires, even when they’re wrong. And I think Bochy teaches this by example. All of the Nats whine like bitches (or showboat the way the dude who hit the bomb to start the game did). And Williams is usually right in the middle of all of it. You get absolutely nothing by whining, crying about calls. And when you get kicked out of the game because of it, you are just killing your team because of your inability to manage your emotions…..
Paul, I’ve seen SF play the Nats in DC 5 times and we’ve lost all of those games. Fuck the Nationals.
I’m with you … and I’m a former Expos fan … but I don’t sense any connection to that past. I attended a game there around 4th of July week last year (vs Baltimore) … totally forgettable experience other than the family members I went with.
Hey, the Half Smoke from Ben’s Chili Bowl isn’t bad.
They should at least retire Boots Day’s number…
I have not forgotten Jim Riggleman’s exit in 2011 as an example of how the Nats work.
You know Flav, maybe when marketing genius Baer runs out of ethnicities to have a “Night”, he’ll hold a ceremony to retire Bonds number. And I’d bet if someone threw him a BPfastball he could still stick #46 into the water.
Roberto Kelly you are a fucking MORON
A robot with a camera eye would’ve held him. Sheeesh.
oh, it’s Buster running. Let’s send him home. We alway do. wtf????
a tradition, going back to Flannery
Jesus Christ, is Kelly breathing?
Kelly, you fucking moron.
Boy, Posey is s l o w. He is not fat or anything, but slow. I hope the Nats don’t wake up and learn how to play Triples Alley because so far they are clueless. We should have 4 runs at least.
Fucking Kelly is a fucking shitty base coach..Memo from last few years Posey is the one guy you don’t send..
Can a coach get fined?
Wouldn’t it be entertaining to have Bochy chew out Umberto in the dugout?
Kelly is either a fucking dumbshit or he’s drunk or high. How could you possible think that was a good send with Posey running and the ball going into short right field with Harper throwing it in? There is no scenario that explains it other than one of the first 2 ideas I proposed.
Translate his abysmal judgment to a day job that a regular working stiff has: he’d be written up, on the carpet, reprimanded in the corner office. Really.
He had plenty of time to work out the scenarios in his head before the hit. I think this just showed he’s dumb as fuck.
Kelly can join him:
http://wnyt.com/article/stories/s3877770.shtml
that’s a riot
I think he was officially let go today. I’ve known him casually for years. It’s not a shock.
Right on Flav!! … and you know Boch will defend him with his dying breath!
I will agree with your theory Flav. He’s Not only a dumbshit, alcoholic, in a drug induced coma, but he comes out of his coma at the worse times, always flailing his arms wildly,so a competent ball player can’t figure out ,so they run to their death at home plate and look back at the imbecile in disgust…
FINALLY, Amy G. is even annoying me. And I can’t shake the notion that she never was crazy about being at Finnerty’s in 2013 the day after Timmy’s no-no, and even less interested in interviewing me for a bit that never aired, far as I can tell. Whatev.
her ass still looked good during her interview of you. Maybe the best its ever looked. All downhill for that ass after that interview. That’s a feather in your cap, Kokonuts. 🙂
ahahahaha how do you know? did I take a picture? it never aired, to my thinking . . . feather proudly worn!
It was an interview she did with you at Finnerty’s. I saw it, or saw a picture of it.
Voggy, dude. Whatever you think about him or how many times you think he’s been done, he’s just a fucking gamer. I don’t know how much he has left tonight but the dude is just a professional fuck. Impossible not to appreciate him.
He leaves it all on the field.
What there is to leave …
Boots Day . . . he was not as good a PHer as Manny Mota, who was totally overrated:
http://www.baseball-reference.com/blog/archives/5536
Great link, James…
I say Aoki reinjured himself when he crashed into the wall.
not me. He didn’t hit it that hard. He was going back on the ball in a weird, meandering way. I think this is a case of a guy kinda hiding his symptoms until it finally scared him and he fest up. I know he passed his tests but a lot of shit happens to the brain the day after a concussion.
It is truly strange that they still are not more cautious . . . .
It’s a beautiful thing Blanco is reciprocating with concussion advice after Nori completely turned Gregor’s career.
Game making me nervous. Have had our chances. Wasted.
Ryan Foggysnot is the personification of the Giants as team: ya never know what your gonna get from game to game and sometimes even inning to inning. We get a little stretch where we think, okay we’re cool, we gonna win a few more than we lose .. nice & steady like … but no, just as we start to feel good it all goes down the crapper like that last road trip.
I hope Bochy has enough sense to pinch hit for him this inning!
he definitely should get pulled earlier than later. But if Bochy has a flaw in managing pitchers it’s letting his starters go too long
I give credit to the Cubs fans. Every time I looked this past weekend the whole crowd was standing. Standing, cheering their team on, no matter the score.
If you’re a Cubs fan, you have it good. Minus the no winning thing. Everyone is partying and they have that great “go cubs go” song at the end. That was a good touch adding that thing. Great vibe after a win
Escobar, Rendon, Harper … who thinks he makes it through this inning?
More crow please … I waaaaant some more fuckin Croooooowwwwww!!!
to your credit, you were fucking spot on about the inning you didn’t predict something negative. Sliding doors dawg, sliding doors……..
slow fucking game.
Probably won’t see much more, if any, of Vogey tonite, so nice recovery after the walk-fest in the 1st.
Yum!
Vogey under 100 pitches, his iron will gets him the quality start, even if we’re down 3-2 by the end of the 6th.
we are short on quality starting pitchers. If a guy you don’t like pitches well you should honor it, not make fun of stuff that didn’t even happen…..
?
maybe I misunderstood your post.
Took a first inning for the enchiladas to settle in from Nicole, but after that Voglestrong pitched lights out, really nice job and yeah he lays it all on the line, I like the gamer in him( like Flav said,,,
The pen better hold on and get this win for our Ironman starter .. If there ever was a SP deserving a win it is Voggy with his effort tonite!
Amen. Voggy has never been an ace and he’s in the twilight of the twilight of his career, but he’s done the Giants right from the beginning of his career till now. You can’t put a price tag on the shit he does.
Ian-Hunter matchup ends in a K.
One of the better record reviews you’ll read:
http://www.robertchristgau.com/get_artist.php?name=Great+White
Cool website. I’m checking it out between innings.
Half the music in my collection is there because of Xgau. The other half is to prove I’m not completely his bitch. He is an amazing writer and an even more amazing fan of pop music.
Play the game as it always was played.
Foot on bag to turn a DP, fuck the in the vicinity rule at 2nd!! And don’t talk to me about protecting the 2nd basemen or even catchers cause I’m old-school hard nose player in my day,and don’t need to see these players coddled so much now…
I wish I could find the video of this for you, kat…
https://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1755&dat=19740511&id=vHIjAAAAIBAJ&sjid=3WYEAAAAIBAJ&pg=2458,5424675&hl=en
I like Belt in the 3 holes.. at least, tonite I like him there …
Posey’s throwing has been pretty damn good this year. I’m saying that w/o looking at the stats.
So look at the stats James!!!😀
Holy, shit — 49% caught stealing before tonight. Yeah, let’s move fat ass to 1B . . . .
Damn, that would’ve been extra-sweet to see Harper get caught stealing down 2 runs.
Zimmerman’s at bats tonight have just been pathetic… Which is just fine, they do remind of Rowand’s awful hacks on down and away off the plate sliders..
Good game.
Absolutely! Schizophrenic season…
Yeah Loo, the road to October has some ess curves in it.
