A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Swatting Nats

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 13, 2015

So lemme get this straight: a revitalized Stephen Strasburg comes to town to take on Voggy who’s just been snatched out of the bullpen. Most of our outfielders are hurt. It looks bad.Real bad.

S-Squared will probably get his K’s but he’s certainly not unhittable. And Matt Williams is more than half way to polishing off his WMOY award. I’m not a Williams fan. Liked him (not loved) as a player. Didn’t like him as a D-backs coach. Think he’s overrated as a manager. His players are all hotheads and Williams just stands by and watches. Or models it for them, I’m not sure which.

Washington is -126 today. Seems low.

Anyway, we could easily beat the Nats today because it’s baseball and no one knows what the fuck is going to happen……

Yeah Williams was a lot more stoic as a player than he is as a manager. He lets his emotions get the better of him now. And he has all his managing life.

He may get better watching a guy like Bochy, but maybe not.

Remember when Matt just got up to the show.He had the talent everyone could see that, fielding nobody better, hitting a curve ball down and away nobody worse, which led to him being shipped back down for awhile to work on laying off of it, he would get so pissed off on getting out on that curve ,you could see his face turn bright red, and he would squeeze the life out off the bat turning it into sawdust…

Op wiped them out last night, love to see Vogs do the same. Nats are currently 3 games over .500, 3 and a half behind surging Mets and couple back of Giants–7th best record in the NL.
These guys are at top of my most disliked list. Love to see SF send them further into oblivion and Williams along with them.

Slight mistake on Williams, nobody better playing 3rd for the Giants..
The best all-time is Brooks Robinson no doubt!! The human vacuum , he was amazing to watch, unbelievable reflex, single handily made the Big Red machine look silly with his plays in the W/S, he was special ..

the national media guys are jizzing all over eachother’s faces because they think Stras has “found his curve ball.” Maybe. But those 12 k’s came vs the pathetic Rockies so excuse me if I want to see him do this again before believing he’s back.
And has he ever really been here? Wouldn’t surprise me in the least if it turns out that he’s a defective cyborg sent to destroy us all. Or himself. Whichever comes first.

Well, I sure as hell hope for better results today. I left work early yesterday so that I could get home and watch the rest of the game. Pfffftttt…what a piece of shit game. Heston did his part (that is two quality starts in a row for our starters), but the bats failed again. Adrianza has to go back to Sac…and as I have said before, I really do not want to see Maxwell out there regularly. Sure, he plays a decent OF and shows “occasional” power. And no, Juan fucking Perez is not the answer either. Upgrade the fucking bench, already.

      Singing to thy choir Chi..
We’re all on the same page with this bunch of misfits on the infield and OF, Bench!! Yet when the time came at the deadline, they didn’t think twice about adding a OF or infielder to strengthen the bench. They did take a Leake on themselves I guess and added a starter, who’s now possibly turning into Beltran 2, sure hope not….

      • chipower9's avatar chipower9 said, on August 13, 2015 at 2:05 pm

I think Leake will be fine, and will be a good addition when he comes back. I have read that he continues to pass all tests and remains on track to start on Tuesday against the Cards. Tuesday is the first day in which he is eligible to come off the DL.

But I wanted them to upgrade the bench at the deadline. I was all over Parra and Zobrist, to name a few, but notta. So now we will have to go the trade route (for example, the Utley deal), or do the usual Sabevans dumpster dive.

Remember 2012 when the Nats had Johnson managing the team and put Strasburg on the shelf for the playoffs? Something about how they’ll be contending so often that it just didn’t make sense to risk it. Given the chance would they do it the same all over again? Strasburg has hit the DL since and skipped starts here and there in the interest of health if I remember correctly. They missed out entirely in 2013, in 2014 Bochy was clearly the superior manager of the eventual World Series Champs and they’re looking up at the last wildcard spot in 2015…lulz, Nats.

When Bum K’d all 7 Astros in a row the other night it tied team record held by J Sanchez and Marichal.
On ML.Com site they had actual footage of all of the above doing it, man was that great.
Marichal’s leg kick comes all the way up to the glove, and he could do this for 2 or 3 hundred innings a year, just an amazing guy who often varied the angles and pitches he threw them from.

ICYMI … A couple of curious tidbits: article by Jeff Passan for Yahoo Sports talking about the need to realign playoff system. Specifically, that the ‘division’ setup is not a fair representation. Also in that article, a brief mention of a subject I’ve been interested in; the near double travel miles accumulated by a team like Seattle compared to certain central division teams … I’ve often wondered if it is only coincidence that the strongest teams in both leagues are located in the geographic central regions. I did a lot flying for my work and I found it to be brutal … of course, I wasn’t an athlete.

The other article is Jessie Rogers for ESPN talking about Joe Maddon’s recent early shut-down of Jason Hammel against Brewers … I’ve been wishing Bochy would do some of that … If so, we may have had a few more W’s. Maddox seems to be taking a playoff attitude into the games whereas the Giants seem to be fostering a seemingly lackadaisical “we still got a lot of baseball left to play” attitude. Maybe we do … Maybe we don’t.

Accomplishing 4 in 6 would be an unfathomable dream come true. I’m not seriously entertaining that. I just want to see us defend our championship in an honorable and respectful manner. Still so much talk about how the Giants ‘got lucky’ and snuck in to the WS and stole it from more deserving teams. If we only realized one goal this season it would be to put all that shit talk to rest once and for all.

I know that will be incredibly difficult with all the injuries we have to our starters and the thin bench, etc, etc. Yet, it would be almost tragic not to captalize on the great seasons that players such as Posey, Craw, Duffy, Panik, and Heston (Blanco too) are having.

    Go

Giants Have Made Offer To Phillies For Chase Utley
By Mark Polishuk [August 13, 2015 at 8:21pm CDT]

TODAY: San Francisco has made an offer for Utley and is “just waiting to hear” whether it will be accepted, GM Bobby Evans tells Bruce Jenkins of the San Francisco Chronicle (via Twitter). Evans said that he doubts a deal will be completed tonight.

We heard earlier this evening that Utley wants certain assurances regarding playing time before he’ll waive his no-trade rights. It’s not clear what Utley is seeking or what the Giants would be willing to do in that regard, though Evans has seemingly suggested that he is looking more for a part-time addition.

Some time ago I posted something about “hating” the Nats, and someone here commented that seemed a bit strong considering the Nats aren’t really SF’s main competitors, etc. But there is just some bad mojo with that team, and having had the opportunity to listen to their homer announcers sometimes when I’ve been back visiting my folks on the east coast over the past few years, EVERYONE associated with that team — from the announcers, to management, to most of the players, to the fans — everyone is annoying, obnoxious, arrogant, and completely undeserving of whatever greatness they all think they are due. F–k ’em all. 🙂

I appreciate how the Giants play the game. There is very little bitching to the umpires, even when they’re wrong. And I think Bochy teaches this by example. All of the Nats whine like bitches (or showboat the way the dude who hit the bomb to start the game did). And Williams is usually right in the middle of all of it. You get absolutely nothing by whining, crying about calls. And when you get kicked out of the game because of it, you are just killing your team because of your inability to manage your emotions…..

I think he was officially let go today. I’ve known him casually for years. It’s not a shock.

Right on Flav!! … and you know Boch will defend him with his dying breath!

    • alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on August 13, 2015 at 8:41 pm

I will agree with your theory Flav. He’s Not only a dumbshit, alcoholic, in a drug induced coma, but he comes out of his coma at the worse times, always flailing his arms wildly,so a competent ball player can’t figure out ,so they run to their death at home plate and look back at the imbecile in disgust…

FINALLY, Amy G. is even annoying me. And I can’t shake the notion that she never was crazy about being at Finnerty’s in 2013 the day after Timmy’s no-no, and even less interested in interviewing me for a bit that never aired, far as I can tell. Whatev.

    • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on August 13, 2015 at 8:33 pm

her ass still looked good during her interview of you. Maybe the best its ever looked. All downhill for that ass after that interview. That’s a feather in your cap, Kokonuts. 🙂

      • pawliekokonuts's avatar pawliekokonuts said, on August 13, 2015 at 8:38 pm

ahahahaha how do you know? did I take a picture? it never aired, to my thinking . . . feather proudly worn!

      • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on August 13, 2015 at 8:46 pm

It was an interview she did with you at Finnerty’s. I saw it, or saw a picture of it.

Voggy, dude. Whatever you think about him or how many times you think he’s been done, he’s just a fucking gamer. I don’t know how much he has left tonight but the dude is just a professional fuck. Impossible not to appreciate him.

    • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on August 13, 2015 at 8:43 pm

not me. He didn’t hit it that hard. He was going back on the ball in a weird, meandering way. I think this is a case of a guy kinda hiding his symptoms until it finally scared him and he fest up. I know he passed his tests but a lot of shit happens to the brain the day after a concussion.

      • James's avatar James said, on August 13, 2015 at 8:46 pm

It is truly strange that they still are not more cautious . . . .

It’s a beautiful thing Blanco is reciprocating with concussion advice after Nori completely turned Gregor’s career.

Game making me nervous. Have had our chances. Wasted.

  61. Lisle Ellis's avatar Lisle Ellis said, on August 13, 2015 at 8:43 pm

Ryan Foggysnot is the personification of the Giants as team: ya never know what your gonna get from game to game and sometimes even inning to inning. We get a little stretch where we think, okay we’re cool, we gonna win a few more than we lose .. nice & steady like … but no, just as we start to feel good it all goes down the crapper like that last road trip.

I hope Bochy has enough sense to pinch hit for him this inning!

    • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on August 13, 2015 at 8:45 pm

he definitely should get pulled earlier than later. But if Bochy has a flaw in managing pitchers it’s letting his starters go too long

  62. pawliekokonuts's avatar pawliekokonuts said, on August 13, 2015 at 8:45 pm

I give credit to the Cubs fans. Every time I looked this past weekend the whole crowd was standing. Standing, cheering their team on, no matter the score.

    • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on August 13, 2015 at 8:54 pm

If you’re a Cubs fan, you have it good. Minus the no winning thing. Everyone is partying and they have that great “go cubs go” song at the end. That was a good touch adding that thing. Great vibe after a win

  63. Lisle Ellis's avatar Lisle Ellis said, on August 13, 2015 at 8:50 pm

Escobar, Rendon, Harper … who thinks he makes it through this inning?

  66. James's avatar James said, on August 13, 2015 at 8:58 pm

Vogey under 100 pitches, his iron will gets him the quality start, even if we’re down 3-2 by the end of the 6th.

    • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on August 13, 2015 at 9:13 pm

we are short on quality starting pitchers. If a guy you don’t like pitches well you should honor it, not make fun of stuff that didn’t even happen…..

Took a first inning for the enchiladas to settle in from Nicole, but after that Voglestrong pitched lights out, really nice job and yeah he lays it all on the line, I like the gamer in him( like Flav said,,,

  68. Lisle Ellis's avatar Lisle Ellis said, on August 13, 2015 at 9:08 pm

The pen better hold on and get this win for our Ironman starter .. If there ever was a SP deserving a win it is Voggy with his effort tonite!

    • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on August 13, 2015 at 9:16 pm

Amen. Voggy has never been an ace and he’s in the twilight of the twilight of his career, but he’s done the Giants right from the beginning of his career till now. You can’t put a price tag on the shit he does.
