DL Time
It’s time for Cain to hit the DL after he tweaked his knee playing with his kids. Oh, can’t use that one? Right, that’s what *happened* to Affeldt. I’ve never heard of a team getting busted for DL’ing a guy for a fake reason. So it’s time for Cain to hit the DL. For whatever reason they can come up with.If it was me, I’d have fun with it. “Matt Cain was DL’d after he sprained his labia skydiving.” See if you can come up with one better than that…….
Bagg’s put it best this morning, “The Giants don’t have time to wait for Matt Cain.” He’s pretty consistently our worst starter every week. And while I don’t share the love for Petit that our esteemed colleague James shares, he certainly couldn’t be any worse than Cain, right?
This sick fuck that shot the two reporters is tweeting as we speak. He tweeted a video of him shooting the reporter. Unreal.
Have not seen that story, Wilco. Where did it go down?
A news station near Roanoke VA. A man shot and killed a reporter and cameraman on live TV. Apparently he had worked at the station as a reporter and part time anchor and had been let go recently. I happened to see his Twitter account shortly before it was suspended and he was posting live tweets including the video of him shooting the young reporter. Probably the most disturbing thing I have ever seen.
Yes. Just saw the video, etc. What a tragedy. What a dirtbag…hope they catch the deadbeat soon.
Today, the SF Giants placed Matt Cain on the 15-day DL due to a right forearm strain and recalled Chris Heston from AAA Sacramento. There are varying stories as to the cause of the injury, but sources are saying that Cain was a bit overamped while choking his chicken. Stay tuned for updates.
I don’t give a fuck who pitches come Sunday, as long as it is NOT Matt fucking Cain. I am done with the dude, at least for this year. I have never liked the idea of slotting Petit into the rotation, and like him better in the long-relief role.
I would rather see Huddy than Cain. Hell, I would be down with Blackburn or Blach coming up for an emergency start due to Cain’s chicken-choking injury. Anyone…paging Mr. Flavor. Mr. Big Flavor, please report to the SF Giants immediately.
We seriously need to win this series, so that means we need a W today. Come on Peavy…we need your best shit today pal, and we need the offense to score some runs and shut-down the cubbies.
Keep close to the bums until Pence, Heston, and Panik return and rosters expand.
Maybe it’s blessing in disguise that allowed Heston into rotation in first place due to injuries. Cain (and the $20 mil) is just lost for this season. Giants picked up Leake, who looks fine so far, and will likely add one of the kid SPs and one FA in off season, and the old regime will be over and done once with and for all. Pen should look different too.
How you get through this week and Sept. idk., but I’d agree Heston has to make that Sunday start.
LA has rebuilding Reds for 2 more who are going with all-rook rotation and have lost 9 of last 10. LA is 29-20 vs. division despite fact SF has owned them. They are very good at home and 50-25 vs. teams under .500, which would include rest of division, so help from the others seems unlikely.
Guy I used to work with 30 yrs ago who was from NYC and a big partier had his gf call in one morning to say he “…has a tumor.”
Willie, I might have mentioned this story before, but you reminded me of something that happened to me back in the early 80s. Prior to switching careers, I remember getting toasted with other fire fighters from our fire station, including our fire captain (who was a good friend and former Marine gunny sgt., i.e., a hard ass).
Anywho, I was so hung over, that I could barely get out of bed, much less go to work. I called him up and said, “Hey Randy, something’s wrong with my eye” He responded, “So what’s wrong with it?” I said, “I can’t see going to work today.”
He actually laughed, albeit, he wasn’t too happy about me missing work. ๐
Great story, Blade. So, are you posting from Shanghia?
No, but heading to Vietnam and possibly China (Beijing) soon.
Happy Trails, Blade. Safe travels, my friend. Will you be doing a blog during your travels?
Chi, it’s really hard to do the blog . . . Moreover, it has gotten me in trouble with some lady friends. Seriously, half the story is told in my blog and I really have to be circumspect about my activities. lqtm.
Gotcha, Blade. We will look for updates on The Flap…
“Blade storms Bejing…story at 6.” ๐
Help from others (re: bums)…come Friday it is all GO CUBS!
RE: Willie’s post about the rotation (and bullpen) looking different next year, and the distinct possibility of the Giants adding arms…I posted at the end of the last thread about hoping they make a hard run at Leake. For the money I suspect he will get, I see him as one of the best potential free-agents for next year.
I also mentioned where I saw the Giants will be interested in the Natty Nat’s Jordan Zimmerman next year. He is expected to command 9 figures, so not sure I am as sweet on that potential deal. He will probably want four years at a minimum, if not five. He is making 16.5 this year as part of a 24 mil two year deal.
Here is the piece on Zimmerman.

I heard last night on KNBR that Cain has won 12 games in the last 3 years.
12.
Given his $20 million/year, that’s about $5 million/win. Holy Cow….
I’ll always say I have no problem with the Cain contract. If it just ends up being a big “thank you” bonus, I’m OK with that. Cain was the first big pillar of the 3 in 5. Lincecum was the second big pillar. They both ended up getting lots of “thank you” money from the Giants. I’m fine with that.
I agree with Chi — bring another young pitcher up for a look see. Yeah, it’s the stretch, but come on, Peavy and Voggy? We’re going to run out of games saying “well, we’ve got a lot of games left”. This Cubs bunch can hit, and Peavy’s not giving me a lot of hope heading into tonite’s tilt. Definitely big changes for this pitching staff next season…
The remainder of Cain’s contract is $20 million per year for the next two years, with the Giants likely buying out the 3rd year at $7.5 million. These are years that should have been prime years for him, but it looks like that’s doubtful, obviously. As has been mentioned, the Giants have a lot of other money that’s coming off the books next season. Lincecum, Hudson, Scutaro, and Vogelsong, in particular. The Giants are in good shape financially, overall.
Also, Affeldt and Casilla come off the books.
I wish all those folks all the best in their non-Giants’-roster futures.
…
Just saw where the dirtbag who shot and killed the reporter and photographer in Virginia was stopped by police and shot himself. No details yet as to whether he was killed or injured. Fucker deserves to die, one way or another.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled program “Slow Burns with the San Francisco Giants Rotation.”
In regards to Zumiee’s posts…don’t forget Buzzkill…his coin will come off the books, too. Not sure for how much of it the Giants are responsible.
So, lots of coin coming off the books and talk of upgrading the rotation (as it should be).
On a separate topic…should the team pick-up Aoki’s option for next year (5.5 mil)?
I think they’re picking up Aoki-San’s option. For sure. He won’t reach the plate appearances needed to be eligible to exercise his out and hit the open market where he would likely command more. Practically a no brainer IMO.
I agree…just curious as to the thoughts of Flap Universe…
I didn’t see the game last night. I followed it briefly on the MLB app and through the first 2 innings Cain was at something like 19 pitches. I was thinking ‘hey, this is good’. Then ohhhh, not so good. I wonder if he ends up needing more surgery or maybe its just stamina and still getting used to the arm. Regardless, it doesn’t matter. As has been stated, his performance so far this year has been ‘dogmeat’ and the club can’t wait on him.
Yeah, I remember at the time of the contract situation, it was either give a big deal to Timmy, or give one to Matty. Cain’s 28-26 since he signed the deal. But he’s 12-21 the last 2.5 years.
It’s just to the point that you have to wonder if he can get back to any kind of form. I thought he’d have a few rough starts and then settle down and at least be able to go 6 without too much angst. Once he hit the stretch it was over.
Yeah, at some point when will the idea that having guns easily accessible to anyone at any time is a bad thing?
Pagan has one more year, but his health is an issue obviously. I’dd see Aoki getting re-upped.
.
Matt Cain was placed on the DL today after straining his traverse rod while rotating to watch a home run fly past him. A disgruntled Clayton Kershaw has reportedly signed with the San Francisco team saying, “I want to play post season baseball.”
But seriously, folks, one of my main questions at the start of spring training was ‘what matt cain are we getting back?’ As soon as the season started I thought, ‘not the good one, if any at all.’ But my fan brain kept praying. It must have been wishing and hoping because it didn’t come true and the horse never returned.
Don;t know if I shared this one, but, it’s time to get a little bask on.
Must be the firewall here…I cannot see it. Will check it out via my phone…
What the hell is it? Souped-up Vespa???
Why don’t we promote Chris Heston from sacramento?? Do we like consistently losing on Cain’s starts? Much love to Matt but his 2010 and 2012 playoff dominance is in the past. Makes no sense to have him on the roster, especially if he is injured. Any suggestions people??
I think Heston has to stay in Sacramento for ten days, unless he replaces someone going on the DL. The ten days wouldn’t be complete until after Matt’s next start,
Correct on when Heston can return, John, but I fully expect there to be another mystery injury to another pitcher (Cain) so that Heston can be activated prior to August 31st. I believe he will need to be activated prior to Sept. 1 to be eligible for the post-season.
Does this clear anything up? I copied it off something:
All players on a club’s MLB Reserve List (40-man roster), MLB 60-day DL, and Restricted List (extended Bereavement, Medical Emergency, or Paternity Leave ONLY) prior to midnight (Eastern) on August 31st are eligible to be included on a post-season Active List (25-man roster), but a player on an MLB club’s Disabled List (7-day, 15-day, or 60-day), Bereavement List, Medical Emergency List, or Paternity List is eligible to be included on a post-season Active List only after spending the minimum number of days required to be served by a player on that list.
So, Heston is on the 40 man…that makes him eligible?
http://mlb.mlb.com/team/roster_40man.jsp?c_id=sf
Heston has reached his high I n innings pitched. Or is close to it. They are resting him. I don’t think he’s pitching in sacto. He’s cooling his heels (always liked that expression).
Yeah, that scooter on steroids is pretty cool.
I don’t know how good or bad Cain’s stuff was last night, but the two HRs he gave up, for sure, were location mistakes in the strikezone. On the first HR he threw the ball higher than Posey wanted it, and then on the second HR, Posey wanted the ball low and outside, and Cain threw the ball low and inside, right into that lefty power-house type, Scott Spezio, Darrel Evans, location. I guess the argument could be made that if the “stuff” is better, you’re more likely to escape more of the location mistakes. The batters will foul off or miss more of the location mistakes. Lincecum has the same problem. The “stuff” isn’t good enough anymore to survive the location mistakes. Heck, that describes Huddy and Vogey, too. Probably Petit, too.
Start the clock on Tyler Beede. Could get a few wins out of him before the league figures him out. No worse considering the league has our number on are other starters not named Bum..
awesome
That was the most nonchalant throw I’ve ever seen by an outfielder. It’s like dude your really gonna go for it?
Seems like signing The Weasel is a top priority now…
A buddy is in Charlotte, says he’s going to see Charlotte Knights, a White Sox Triple-A team. Just for fun, I looked at their roster, and there’s none other than Brad Penny on the squad!
The Charlotte Knights…..having a Brad Penny season! ๐
The Pirates are a cocky group, but that clip has to make a person smile. They’re good for the sport. Other than the Giants having to struggle to catch the Dodgers to make the playoffs, there’s a lot of good things happening for the sport this season.
1. Nori Aoki (L) LF
2. Matt Duffy (R) 3B
3. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
4. Buster Posey (R) C
5. Marlon Byrd (R) RF
6. Gregor Blanco (L) CF
7. Kelby Tomlinson (R) 2B
8. Ehire Adrianza (S) SS
9. Jake Peavy (R) P
No Craw…not good. Hope this isn’t something that will keep him out too long…
Agent Zero keeps the homegrown infield intact.
Going into the season I thought the club must have an arm in mind that they could plug into the rotation if necessary. At this point in the season I don’t think they would turn to anyone but Heston but you never know.
Well, if Cain is DL’d and Vogelsong continues to struggle in his spot stars, I could see Hudson possibly getting a start.
“sprained his labia skydiving” hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
ha
I miss Tedspe.
Moi aussi
I’m not looking for a beanball war or a bench clearing brawl, but someone should’ve got knocked down last night because:
A) We owe those motherfuckers for injuring Pence and Aoki
B) They’re digging in with no fear and homering us to death
Cain used to be good for that and since he’s no longer good for anything else he had ample opportunity to deck someone since the game was out of hand real early on. Maybe this team isn’t as close as they like us to think.
Can’t diagree, Mr. Bob Gibson Drysdale Marichal.
I was having a similar thought during the game…that this team may not be as tightly woven as previous ones.
I don’t like the sound of something like “Brandon Crawford tweaked his side.” And snarkk’s medicos will be mum. Sigh.
My friend Sam P., a Giants’ fan who is a pharmacist, insists that you don’t hear much about injuries anymore because of HIPAA laws and regs. He and wife Naomi attended at least two games at PNC. This morning he texted: “It’s now officially an odd year.”
good point, although I think you can selectively waive your HIPAA rights. So it must be the CBA that determines the scope of disclosure. Not that I’m gonna go to bizofbaseball and flip through the thing to be sure . . . .
Nice rip, Aoki-san! The whale-spout pillar kept the drive from hitting the Cove, apparently. Anyone remember the first HR that seemed destined for the Cove, in 2000? I heard Jon Miller call it on the radio. He was wetting his pants describing the majestic Bonds blast, destined to splash into the water. Then an enormous gong sounded, and Miller said, with disappointment in his voice, it hit the foul pole. It’s a HR, but it didn’t reach the Bay.
I don’t believe for a second that Craw is only gonna be out a couple of days. He might try to play through it and then get shut down like Panik
ugggggggh….we’re saving our players for when it counts. yeah. right.
In his blog, Craw says he’ll probably be out a couple of days but he’s itching to get back in. He also related a cool Bonds story.
http://brandon.mlblogs.com/2015/08/26/already-itching-to-get-back-brandon-crawford/
Looks like Craw waived his Hippa and CBA privacy rights and talked about his oblique…
Good read on Craw. Thanks, John. I need to get over to that blog more often. Nice to hear a player’s perspective.
That scumbag shooter basically shot himself in the county just south of us, maybe 15 miles from us or so.
Fortunately I heard he had been located and shot himself before I had to leave for a meeting with my kids still home.
Really a sick sick man. I am not a big 2nd amendment person being a Repub, never owned or fired a gun and no plans ever to do so. But as a country we need to find a way of keeping the mentally ill as far away from guns as we can. Even if that means we have to go out of our way to aggressively identify, diagnose and list those with severe mental issues that could lead to violent outbursts and have family and doctors report on those with such mental disturbances. The Colorado movie shooter, the VA Tech shooter and the CT elementary school murderer all had clear mental issues with family members that were aware of such illnesses. I am all for a background check that requires mental screening as well.
Before I get to read for any updates and comments, is Cain officially on the DL? Wouldn’t Heston be the right fit to come back and take the spot in the rotation?
Verlander, three outs away from Kate Upton. I mean, no-hitter.
I think one hitters have become less common than no hitters…
hit off him in the 9th; Kate sobbing
Over/Under on first inning pitches by Peavy: 22.5
21 wins! More dumb base running saves the under players…
Comical…
What the…Peavy made a solid pitch and then that shit…
I still don’t understand O/U tho’ I allegedly had relatives who were bookies, just speculating, totally, um, off the record.
I had an uncle who was a bookie. I got to go to the pool hall with him on occasion and watch the guys play snooker. There was always a table of old African American dudes sitting around playing dominos, too. Those trips were like going to Disneyland for me.
And now Blanco scratched, too…
I don’t understand why the Giants don’t force Peavy to get glasses, contacts, lasik, etc…I get pissed off everytime I see Posey with the painted nails, just thinking of it.
We must be one of the worst teams in MLB when it comes to giving up runs in the first. Gawd.
Bonzai!
Kung-Pow!
Why is Pence laughing in the dugout?
I feel like this game started in July….
All the more reason to like Tomlinson.
East Coasters here are either night hawks, deranged, or just waiting for the 2nd shift to arrive. Or is that 3rd?
Excuse me, East Coasters and Houstonians.
With this name, this kid should be a chef or astrophysicist or butcher at an organic meat market.
referring to Schwarber
Being somewhat Teutonic myself, it sounds like a kind of sausage. As I’ve noted before without prompting, great sausages can be procured in Mountain View/Los Altos at Dittmer’s. The little Nurembergers are highly recommended, taste just like outta the old country…
TedSpe [gentlemen question mark] is alive and well, pursuing work and acting. Sends his best to the Flap.
I wish he’d pursue the dang Flap a little. Miss his missives…
I know, I know. We’ll see him at some point, I dare say.
I miss that guy.
Crawfish and blanco scratches? Shit.
This one may take a while…
๐
We’re running out of major leaguers, and don’t have the dominant pitching to cover for that…
And here comes the dreaded 6th inning.
Huge mistake by the Centerfielder to let that ball get by for the Belt triple and now Posey makes them pay!!
WTF is Wotus yacking about to Belt in the dugout? Maybe the half ass way he left the batter’s box?
That bat was total Byrd Shit..
Way to go Buddy Holly!!!
Huge hit !!
Always count on OOO to end a rally…
Giants new slogan: “We develop white infielders”
I get laid more often than Peavy gets through 7…
Maddon should go to the mound and bring in Strickland…
Red Alert in McCovey Cove…
In Japanese Aoki said: I fuckky uppy the baseball catch…
As Peavy glares back at him and thinks, I’ll see you in the parking lot after the game Hop-sing..
Jake didn’t look too thrilled with Posey either on the botched pop up.
The guy has the emotional maturity of Baby Huey…
longest fucking back2school night in history. But I get in my car and see we are winning. That makes me happy.
What grade are you going into?
Nice one Loo..
I know it worked out, but I think Loo is right, a Cub needs to get brushed back something hard.
I think I would have left Strick in and told him Schwarber gets one in the ribs.
Zum, Adrianza is down to .183 with another 0-fer. Gonna be a long climb back up to Mendoza.
No idea why Sf didn’t at least take a look at Frandsen…he’s versatile and at least has hit ml pitching before.
5 years ago? Shit, I don’t know. We are running out of bodies at this point.
He’s been in Sac for a while…gotta believe he can hit better than OOO.
I can hit better the OOO..
Get an extra run, and drill a Cub for sure, we owe them big time..
Last night was the time to do it – in a blowout.
Would’ve been sweet to get Arrieta on the kneecap…
Ballgame!
Regardless of whether or not he is on, Peavy is a warrior. The dude goes out and battles hard, every time. Great outing tonight to get into the 7th and spell the pen a bit.
YAYYYYYYYY!
Wouldn’t be surprised if Duffy can’t go tomorrow. Cut Maxwell and call up Frandsen.
I was out for dinner and some glasses of Chard.
WTF happened to Duffy?…
Tweaked his ankle sliding into base. He stayed in the game, stole a base. But yeah, that thing may swell-up overnight.
Duff’s a tough Irishmen Loo,
He will be in there tomorrow, book it!
They need him with this patch work LU.
An even better Dirty Al Gallagher reincarnated for the mid 2010s?…
How about that!
Giants win theeeee Giants win!!
Woo-Hoo Ferret!!!
Casilla, friggin A.
That was dominant. 8 pitches, and save booked.
Nice game.
I’d love an NLCS with the Cubs. ’89 NLCS redux, anyone? Who’s going to hit the replicant .625 or whateverthehell Will hit in that series…
cbs site had his fastball at 95 too. Romo is a soft tosser, Casilla is not. All pen guys picked up Peavy after the error. Bum in the daytime, and weather will be nice tomorrow too. Keep ball in the yard, big guy.
I know Cubs have a great record and all, but that LU vs. Giants at full strength: Posey Panik Craw and Blanco are clear wins. Duffy a better contact hitter/Bryant more pop. Giants pen better too imo.
I’d say they are still a year away from making any noise in playoffs. If they were to beat Pirates in the play in they’d get Cards next, so one and done at best.
And batting the SP 8th is just a bad look.
Yeah, Maddon hits his P in the 8 hole a lot. I never got that move. LaRussa used it a lot, too.
Supposedly the rationale is that the #9 hitter (non-pitcher) is freed up from getting tough pitching ( no strikes) in the #8 hole, and he gets treated like a second lead off guy. My question is then how is the #7 guy pitched?…
You know the 12-6 hook is coming when Casilla is ahead on the count with 2 strikes. Did that tonite to end the game…
WOOT!
Cubbies trying to nail the coffin closed and tomorrow the undertaker gets a chance to stop-em.
What a battle tonight. Goes to show even a good, hot team with just a blink and we are scoring and winning.
Day game tomorrow with a good luck charm in attendance.
HOw the F did the Giants win that game with a semi-AAAA lineup?
Nice job by Peavy, and especially the Pen…
Kat – I laughed out loud at the Hop Sing thing.
That is an age demographic deal right there.
OK, who knows what TV show that reference is from?…
I do!!
Well I’m old school.
Let some one else try first..
I know you know…
Bonanza…he was the cook.
Dude, confirming your demographic. Nice.
๐
Buy that man a Hossburger and a draft๐บ
And a toast to the late Little Joe…
Snarkk..Tweaked his ankle going back to 1st base on a pickoff attempt from the Catcher.. Then played possum and stole 2nd, should be ok with ice and a cocktail after the game..
OK, let’s hope the Giants medicos stay away from him, and a fifth of Makers is available at the spread. I often say to the Snarkkettes when I want them to get a chore done: “Hop to it, Sing”. They look at me like I’ve got a hole in my head…
G’night ladies. Time to get that series win tomorrow!
Got that right, Chi. Let’s take this series…
Tomorrow is payback day!
Take the series with Bum, let him drill a Cub, and see if the guy would dare charge the mound against him..
Pav: Duffy has a right ankle sprain, X-Rays were negative. He’s day to day.
Tape that puppy up and send him out there…
