Still working my way back to CA. El Dorado Poker Room keeping that from happening. Hopefully we get the good Smarge tonight. Best VMI (for hitters) tonight is the Angels. Interesting…..

It’s a little sad that MLB is making the “final five” campaign and pimp for that final ASG spot, to promote the game. Some poor actual lamb got dragged into the D-Backs clubhouse so that Lamb could stand awkwardly next to it.
Did they bring in a baby giraffe for Brandon?
A missed opportunity!
Flav: If you ever get to Missoula, Montana, Stockman’s Bar there features “Liquor up front. Poker in the rear.” Still got the T-Shirt after 36 years. Bit tattered, though.
Belt’s in! Congrats to him!
Atleast their have some defense at 1st base in the late innings of Collins is smart enough which I doubt!
It’s been 16 games since the Dodgers have had a starting pitcher go into the 7th inning. Their bullpen has been good, overall, during that time, so their record is 9-7 in those game. But surely that has to be putting some wear on their bullpen.
I must have placed a few hundred votes for Belt and Springer. I wanted to see how many zip codes (the random numbers you type prior to each vote to prove your not a robot) of places that I lived would pop up. I think I saw two.
Anyway, congrats to Belt and oh yeah, fuck Canada for their unanimous selection of Michael Saunders. They would have elected Justin Bieber if he was on the ballot.
Yeah Wilco you can also “Fuck Canada” for voting the least amount for Belt!! Shit those dumb Canucks were probably voting for Wayne Gretzky thinking he’s a national leaguer..
A more salient term than “dumb Canuck” and one that I, as a Canadian, find to be more accurate in most instances is, “Canknuckle-head”. You could even go with “dumb Canknuckle-head” which is really not as redundant as it may seem.
You NY people . . .Need a call on the Mets/Nats game, i.e., will it be canceled due to rain? Do not give me the forecast. I want your opinion.
I think they’ll play eventually Blade…
thanks
I decided to fade the contest (had Murphy). Nats owned the Mets during their last game. Anywho, I went back to Kipnis instead of Murphy.
Loo, glad I faded Murphy – Kipnis HR . . . Already worth his DFS salary and way more.
The Dodgers brought a rookie, Andrew Toles, up today, and he’s starting in centerfield tonight. Probably a sign of frustration with Thompson, I guess. Thompson has hit some HRs, but his batting average has been sinking.
Pederson is on the DL.
Return of Span!
CF Denard Span (L)
LF Angel Pagan (S)
1B Brandon Belt (L)
C Buster Posey (R)
SS B. Crawford (L)
RF Mac Williamson (R)
2B Grant Green (R)
3B Ruben Tejada (R)
P Jeff Samardzija (R)
D-Backs are throwing a lefty, so no Parker or Gillaspie.
I suppose defensively Tejada & Pie are about equal but I think Pie’s bat is being wasted … Anyone know how T & P’s lefty/righty splits compare?
I could be wrong, but I don’t think Bochy puts a lot of stock in those particular numbers, whatever they are. He’s decided Tejada and Gillaspie are a straight righty/lefty platoon. Both with their own particular flaws.
Remember the “trade Belt” postings here on the Flap? Some of them might actually have been serious. Answer is happening this season with BB9 leading the league in doubles and high on the leader board in OBP and at an NL ranking in OPS. Bochy finally showed the sense to bat him third, his natural position on this team and his runs scored and driven in keep climbing up the ladder ~ along with his XBH’s. For years now i’ve been insisting that he’s essentially a slash hitter with a keen and fine understanding of the strike zone. He’s paid his dues, so now the umpires may finally be giving him the benefit of the doubt more often than not.
Congratulations to Bigfoot Belt for being the final fan’s choice for the All-Star team. He might could have used the rest, but this honor, in addition to a nice longterm contract, will keep him focussed and the Giants winning.
With Cubs fans going bonkers to see their guys get in there and due to a couple other dislocations due to one thing or another the equally deserving Brandon Crawford did not make the cut this year. Another Silver Slugger is likely and another Golden Glove is possible. He could be a shoo-in next year~ particularly if SF goes 4 in 7 or even comes close to such a remarkable achievement.
I have zero problem admitting I didn’t like Belt . . . Between him being injury prone (another concussion perhaps being the end of his career) to his attitude and his so so numbers – I was in the “trade Belt” camp. Fast forward today, I am glad he is doing well and getting rewarded with an All Star appearance. However, before we crown his ass, let’s see if he can continue to produce for the rest of the season and hopefully, into the post season.
I don’t recall wanting to trade Belt, now Posey I have proposed and I’ve taken a bit of shit on that. For the record, the minute Posey is not considered our catcher anymore, I’d trade him. To me he is an AS Catcher or a hell of a DH. and a DH doesn’t work for an NL team.
All that is on baseball-reference, bass but I’m on Bart.
If been on the other side of the belt deal but hey glad to see him do what he should be doing. I think he caught unwarranted shit, mainly because of the gumby shoulders and the shit he caught from K and K and the coaching staff but yeah he’s staying healthy. So far. And will always dig him ft the home
Run I the 18th inning…
Hate fuckng typing on bart
angels have scored 5 thru 2 innings. VMI baby. Got them as well as the over.
San Diggity texted me a pic of IZZy’s in Tahoe earlier today. Nice. I almost texted him the inside of the ElDo poker room but felt it might be incongruent with his vibe. 🙂
6 runs now and the 3rd inning isn’t even over yet. I am headed back to poker room but wanted to tout my call in the main thread from earlier today. Without touting, what’s left? lqtm
I’m proud to be a Belt backer since the get go. Especially during the time he was getting ripped publicly an despicably by his own manager and broadcasters. Getting to the AS game is surely some measure of success for this dude, however idiotic the AS selection process is. I salute Belt for his success after much tribulation, and too, his unwavering supporters. I’m sure my 5 votes put him over the top…
Now, if he could just learn how to run bases, he’d be really top shelf…
If I was Samardzija, I’d start over by cutting off that butt-ugly 1980’s mullet just to try something new, maybe change my fortunes. I mean when this guy goes south he ends up in fucking China.
Take that, motherfucker!!!
Craw Star!
Craw!
I’m following on the computer, what’d Bochy get tossed for?
He argued that the pitcher should have been tossed for throwing two pitches at Posey. The ump only warned the pitcher on the second pitch.
The first pitch was way inside, and the second pitch went BEHIND Posey.
Smarj had hit one of the D-Backs.
He hit Segura who had hit an HR.
Wow, thanks.
Remember a while back LaRussa and the Dbacks were in Pittsburgh and the Bucs announcer mentioned that every team LaRussa has been associated with throws at the oppo hitters as a routine matter, regardless of the other team’s intent or lack thereof in previously hitting one of LaRussa’s guys. And LaRussa stormed into the announcer’s booth to confront the guy about the erroneous statement. Now, LaRussa’s guy throws TWICE at Posey. Nah, LaRussa’s teams never throw at anybody. Nice to see the Giants take advantage of the accidental incident…
Speaking of the Bucs, since the Giants went in to Pittsburgh and took the last 3 games of that series, the Bucs have regrouped, going 11-3 since that time. Good timing for the G’s, figured the Bucs would get it going again….
They took 3 of 4 from the Dodgers, which was very cool.
Span continues to underwhelm. I’d rather see Parker out there.
Yeah, I’d be happy if he would just whelm…
Yeah, Loo, kind of begs the question: if something can be underwhelming or overwhelming, why is there no “whelming”…..
There seems to be lots of words like that.
Is there ever clement weather or only inclement?
And what’s the difference between valuable and invaluable?
Ok, I’m done…
Why do we park in a driveway but drive on a parkway….
This is a bit of a kooky game so far…
Not a fast-moving game.
Hale a cab.
Why is the HP umpire wearing a sky blue shirt?
Is that something new or did I just notice it now?
Good call.
Come on, Smarj.
Nice comeback by Samarge.
Feeling very gruntled now.
lulz!
Funny, Chuck…Can we do this more?
This guy Curtis looks like Timmy if he could grow a beard.
You comin’ to NY, Chuck?
These fuckng unis look like a bunch of umpires running around.
No, DJ. too much other shit happened. Sorry to say.
Padres were trying to catch LA (down 9-6), loaded the bases with 1 out, new pitcher comes in, and Myers swings at the 1st pitch for a double play. Dude…. patience…..
Eeeeep! Here comes the pen.
Crawfish not being on all star team is a joke.
Williamson has been a rally-killer tonight.
He whiffed on a terrible pitch there.
If he could have least gotten the guy to third that would have been helpful.
Kept Goldie in the park
That 3-2 slider was a good one.
Seems to me if Wotus left Law in there to face Bourne because Goldschmidt was on deck, he should’ve run him out there to start the 8th with Goldschmidt leading off.
Oh dear.
That was like the fastball Romo threw Cabrera to end the 2012 WS. Totally unexpected.
Great pitch.
Wow. Very nice.
Blanco!
Gregor gets #1!
Shark night!
Bigfoot sure walks a lot.
Clean innings from this bullpen are a rarity.
WOW!!
Fantastic catch!
Now that was a great catch.
Span-ing the outfield!
Span with a wall-banger catch.
First W at home over the D-backs, so that’s out of the way.
Mac, your little “headline” posts are always just so cool…..
Aw, thanks, Occupational habit.
Strickland not fooling anyone, but good win and kudos to Samardzija for getting things straightened out after a bad first inning.
Along with Snarkk and Stix, I’ve been a Belt fan from the beginning. I think I was the first one to compare him to Snow, another 1B man with “mediocre” numbers. For those like Blade who remain skeptical, I offer this concession: if Belt had been at home plate instead Snow in game 5 of the 2002 WS, Darren Baker might not be with us any longer.
Hey, James, you’re forgetting me too… 🙂
Ha, yes, Paul! I think eddacker is another Belt Believer.
Yeah, I think so too…
eddacker loves him some Belt. Always have.
Great defense always steals my heart and the batter’s eye on that guy. If he lets a pitch go and it is called a strike you gotta question the ump.
I wavered a bit when he was not getting it done in the ‘hero’ moments when a big hit would have been a game changer. And I was shocked and sad with the bizarre and too frequent injuries.
This season I have only had a few chances to see games on tv, but I see a new look in Belts body language. Almost surprised it looks to me. I can imagine him thinking, “damn, I am doing it, things are working.” And it is a look of confidence i am not used to seeing on his face. I am impressed every time he beats the shift. yes, BBelt, you ARE a good player. Work it.
Great post.
agreed…
The D-Backs have just traded their closer Ziegler to the Red Sox, for minor leaguers, I think.
No way they would have traded Ziegler to the Giants or Dodgers for a comparable amount.
I only saw it briefly but one of those minor leaguers is highly regarded.
BTW, who is this Romo person, where has he been hiding. He has an interesting sidearm slider.
And it felt great to hear the announcer say, “As we go to the 8th, Sergio Romo is on the mound.”
3 SO in the third, I am sute there is not a flapper glad to see a Romo 8th.
I see the Red Stockings making the playoffs IF their starting pitching doesn’t get any worse.
I really can’t guess what Sabean and Co are going to do between now and my sister’s birthday.
The sinking of the mets and cubbies changes the tone of the second half.
The Cubs were already planning which day to have their championship parade on.
Tough loss for the A’s tonight. They scored 5 runs in the top of the 9th to go ahead 9-7, and then gave up 3 runs in the bottom of the 9th to lose 10-9 to the Astros.
A’s suck. And, they’ll probably trade Hill to the Doghairs…
Good Morning Flaperica. After a productive day of garden work and then a quick homestead shower with direct solar heated water out in front of the long-parked Blue Whale i decided to do a bit of bar-hopping, first to my local, a lakeside drink n eatery 3 miles down the hill and around the bend. Next to the old hometown trap aswarm with pipeliners and Texas accents and then across the hills and gullies to the bigger kid hometown for a couple more Grain Belts.
Got home to the computer to see the Giants up 5-2 in the Sixth and felt safe leaving baseball to its own devices, figuring that this amazing conglomeration of athletes would be getting over the bullpen heebiejeebies now with Romo back.
You know, Crawdaddy is an amazing RBI man. Some guys seem to have a knack for that. He WILL get his recognition even as the season progresses if he keeps up the pace. LaBumbos have a good and much touted kid SS, but when it comes to the entire game and its crunch time ours is better. Maybe next year he will finally get the kinda recognition his DP mate Bigfoot Belt just earned.
Cool post.
Within his profession, he gets recognition. A Gold Glove and Silver Slugger Award last season.
When real games resume next Friday, the Giants could start Bum again, and why not.
yeah that was the deal about Sunday–extra starts in real games as you say.
Wow Dbax who are totally out of it, start some noise with Giants and Posey of all people. Just one of dumbest franchises in all baseball.
Me today, I start Strick and Segura can walk to first base again if he survives.
No doubt he’ll want the ball, but I wouldn’t be against him and Cueto getting an extra day or two here and there when it’s possible. Especially if that lead is above say 5 games…
I was usually on Belt’s side too. Good to see him cut down the Ks this year. 1b is very talented position nice to see him get some recognition for what he does. J T Snow is very apt; I wondered if he could approach K Hernandez territory but another few years of high OB good slugging (not great at ATT but super on road) and excellent D I can look forward to.
Full House Flav (FHF) has put up a new thread…
McCovey Chron had good column from 7/7. If you just looked at number, they would say many good things about Strick and his heat plus Casilla ERA good stuff and save pct. Bottom line the teams that need help are gonna be all in and SF unlikely to get anyone better than Law, at the cost of prospects. Might just have to go with what you have and Rags can help these guys keep the ball in the yard and rely of defense.
At least AZ sent Ziegler to AL where he can’t hurt Giants til WS. Hope the A’s don’t mess around either and send Dodgers and help like Hill Valencia or Reddick.
Looks like you got that R-Sox vs Giants World Series tool
