Peavy!
Peavy pitching and he continues to surprise us all. I’m posting today’s thread from inside a poker room. All the exit signs have been taken down.
But there is no goddamn WAY I leave the Flap hangin’ on a thread…..

I think relief help is going to be tough to come by and unlikely to happen. Wow Strick just was lucky D saved him last night. Rags has lot of work to do. Nice outing from Romo maybe helps settle things down, esp since he got dangerous Lamb the LH.
Team that worries me is the A’s. Beane has a hist of doing deals with LA and I hope he doesn’t help them out with Reddick Valencia or some pitching like Hill or Doolittle.
See how Peavy survives in daytime conditions, lot different that night games at ATT in summer.
Relief may not be that hard to come by. Just check out the pair of A-level “prospects” the Snakes received for a rental of F.A. to be, Brad Ziegler. Giants could have come up with a better rotation prospect from Augusta without even dipping into the top 3 there.
I agree. Stix. And with that said, I still think you could see a couple of new faces in the BP after the break (definitely before the deadline).
I predicted last night that A’s ship Hill to LA. The A’s and Beane are not above screwing the Giants whenever possible…
Yep. Billy Beane can go fuck himself. All the more reason I always want to see the Giants kick the living dogshit out of the A’s…
Crawford went to the All-Star game last year, and there’s still a slim chance for him this season, given how injuries happen. Cespides and Syndergaard are out with injuries now. Who will replace them?
Let Crawfish get the rest. Take out his snub on the rest of the league.

Span saved Strychnine’s bacon in the 9th last night with that excellent catch in deep center. That pitch was 97 mph straight down Main Street about mid thigh high. That’s throwing, not pitching. Strick needs to figure out how to pitch, and stop throwing. 2 seasons now with Rags, I don’t know why he doesn’t have more to his game at this point…
Agree. So, is it Rags, or Strick, or both?
Funny article on Belt and the AS game. The kid has some dry humor…
http://www.sfchronicle.com/giants/article/Belt-voted-onto-NL-All-Star-team-8349218.php?t=89a06f4670999e0292&cmpid=twitter-premium
That’s great! “I love Shania Twain. She might be the best looking woman to ever come out of Canada.”
Even though i’ve been a big Bigfoot fan for longer than BigHead has, he admits to have voted for him twice while the single vote i cast in this whole business was for BB9. My way of looking at it is that voting more than once takes something real outta the process ~ at least on a personal level.
Good read. Thanks, snaark.
Snarkk, Cashner was doing a lot of just throwing, too, last night for the Padres. He threw an 0-2 fastball straight down the middle to Grandal, who blasted it for an HR. Cashner repeatedly grooved fastballs to the Dodgers last night, straight down the middle, no movement. No big mystery why the Dodgers scored 10 yesterday.
I think we all hoped Strickland would have turned into the new Brian Wilson by now.
Time and patience might be running out on him.
If I were Rags at this point, I’d tell him to grow a long beard and see what happens…
He’d get traded to the House of David.
I am with you, Loo. Time is running-out in my book.
It’s kind of amazing how rarely batters swing at Strickland’s slider. The word is out that it’s hardly ever a strike. So batters look for his fastball, take the slider, get ahead in the account, and then REALLY look for the fastball.
Yes. I have said for months, that if he could get to where he throws the slider “consistently for a strike,” AND add one more pitch, like a change, that he could also throw consistently for strikes, dude would be essentially unhitable.
Unless you are the woman who was holding the tray of food and drinks, that was flicking hilarious. I would have tried to kick the ball, or head-butted it. No way my brews are going down!
that was one of the funniest fucking things I’ve ever seen at a baseball game on tv
Agree. You know that got a kazillion shares on every social media outlet in the universe. Still LMAO every time I think about it.
You are THE MAN, Flav. Thank you sincerely for taking care of all us wayward Flappers! Good luck…
Tony larussa shiulkd be banned from baseball. I’m sick of his incessant bean ball nonsense. Here’s a man who was never on the receiving end constantly ordering his pitchers to hit people.
Giants-Snakes are MLB.tv free game today.
MLB threw me a free two week bone of MLB.TV for voting in the AS game. I haven’t accepted. Outside of the Giants, I don’t have the time to watch any other games. Hell, it is a challenge catching all the Giant games!
Been out and about, but have seen the updates on the Giants game and am feeling very good about Peavy (who I have in a DFS tourney). Seems like he is pitching well??? About to turn on the game in a few to confirm.
Shutout through three. He threw about 27 pitches in the first to work out of a 1st and 2nd situation.
El Caballo Loco just keeps on hitting. Whatdyasay, Kevin?
WTF is the ump doing coming out there? Was he truly coming out to check on Pagan’s health, or trying to move things along? When a dude gets hit in the dome, you give him as long as he fucking needs.
Belt keeps the conga line moving…
Triple Belted!
Giants second in triples. Could be the ballpark to a degree, eh?
Peavy is toast. Bochy is risking one batter too many.
You should become the manager, Zum. 😉
Sure! 🙂
Kidding. 🙂
*#%@& . . . I jinked it. My bad. Nice DFS tourney going and Peavy pfffttt.
Well, at least he pulled a Houdini act and limited it to only 2 runs that inning somehow. That inning looked like it was heading toward a big crooked number.
Yeah, he did do that.
Dammit! I step away for 10 to handle something out back, and come back to being down 2-1! Sounds like it could have been worse, though. Still a lot of ball to play. Blade, you may still get the win.
I don’t need him for making money . . . I just could potentially win a lot more money with his contribution. Damage was limited, so see what’s what.
Mo money is mo money. Go Peavy!
Oh my!
Sunglasses on top of the cap.
Well, why does the frickin’ idiot have his glasses on his hat? What a fucking imbecile.
Grant Green, come on down!
Greenie!!
Greeny!
blade is wondering, “who the hell is Green?”
Fun fact: the A’s drafted him ahead of Mike Trout.
Ahh, that Green (umm, like I know).
Recall around 1970 or 71 reading a book called “The Greening of America”. Dude pays his dues.
I read that book.
Back in the 60’s Greenie Stickum Caps made big bangs with the pre-adolescent set.
Peavy, picking Blade up!
I wish. Only his pitching counts in DFS.
Ah, shows my lack of knowledge of it all…
That’s hilarious (can’t see the signs, but can rake . . . Say what you will, but Peavy is quite the character).
I dig Peavy. That is one dude I would love to hang out with for an evening and tip a few…
Span is rockin’ a .247 BA now.
He was a rally-killer that inning.
“The beer lady.” She’s been named!
That ball was heading right for her face. Good block!
I would have head-butted it and saved my brews…
It’s curious to hear how other teams perceive us. I was watching the Seattle/KC game on MLB tv while following Giants on Gameday. Seattle announcers stated that Mariners had taken over the lead from the Giants for involvement in one run games. They said that particular stat usually indicates the team is basically poor in taking advantage of opportunities, playing ‘small ball’ and doing the ‘little things’ right. They continued saying that although the Giants — known for their stellar pitching — are perennially one of the “worst” offensive teams in all of MLB, they are actually very good at ‘doing the small things’ and thus their winning record.
The Giants are usually low in HRs, but they’re not always low in runs-scored. This season they are 11th out of the 30 teams in runs-scored so far.
They did not breakdown or specify HRs vs total runs scored. They simply stated Giants to be one of the “worst” offensive teams. As I said at the outset of my post, its curious how other teams perceive us.
They’re wrong. 🙂
But I get your point. People around the country that don’t often see a certain team can get a skewed view of a team.
I agree they are usually very good at doing the “little things” that win games. Bochy sets a standard for success for the team on a yearly basis. Some years it’s too difficult to overcome the injuries. So far this season, the fill-in players have done very well.
LMAO…it amazes me that dumbasses like that even have a job in the game. Ludicrous…
Yes, skewered perceptions and probably an understandable yet unreasonable explanation as to why a player such as Craw gets passed over as an AS. Beyond pitching, Giants are perceived as a team with no real glamour … No Trout, Stanton, Harper, Cruz, Cano types .. just a bunch of blue collar laborers … No, pizzazz.
… but we know better.
Pizzazz is over-rated. 🙂
but pizza is not … There was the pizza place in Rome I used to go to at every opportunity .. Locals called it The Morgue … Huge long marble tables … It was actually a morgue at one time and the tables you ate off of were where they laid out bodies … Or so the story goes …
Terrific play by Craw.
To me, that’s the guy who absolutely got screwed not being selected for the sham AS game. Criminal that Russell is starting and worse, that Story is on the team. No issue with Seager.
Correction – Story was considered for final slot on team.
Agree. Crawford is an AS whether or not he was selected. No fucking brainer.
Flavor–wordpress sucks. That is all.
WTF. WordPress has worked here for years. Explain, please. And what is the better option?
just the sign in process. Took forever, had to create a blog I didn’t want, etc….But it’s fine now
Oh yeah, that was a pain in the ass, pasalon. It was so long ago, I had forgot.
And whether WordPress sucks or not, Flavor has no control over any of that shit.
also, that chick who had beers blasted all over her and her lesbo friend was the funniest fucking thing I’ve seen in a long time
.
Don’t call me Nada Tenada…
Instead of either the bad Peavy or the good Peavy today we got the so-so one. He won’t get a win but he did keep us in the game.
I am good with that in the grand scheme of things, on one condition…our bullpen can get its shit together.
It’s amazing how well the fill-in guys are doing, overall. What a huge life they’ve been!
Yeah, the team has done a nice job of treading water. I don’t think the record is stellar (could be wrong), but I have overall been impressed.
No, please no wave . . .
No shit. It is like when they break out the beach balls at the latrine. Fuck that shit. You want to play that goofy shit, go to the goddamned beach. I just want to shoot fuckers who want to start a wave.
Now, that was fricking funny . . . Glasses had dirt crusted on them like tires.
Severe faceplant. Couldn’t have felt too good…
Here’s the 2009 draft, down to the Mike Trout pick. A lot of teams passed on him. Green was the 13th pick. Hindsight on drafts is always 20/20, of course.

there have been too many funny moments in this game to count. Baseball isn’t supposed to be funny. 1) chick trying to catch a baseball with a basket full of beers 2) Peavy ranting away and catching a ball by accident. 3) AZ LF eating a face full of dirt trying to catch a ball.
You forgot Lopez falling while walking to the bullpen mound.
Did the Giants buy that woman and her lesbian friend new drinks?
Two middle-aged women sitting together have to be lesbians?
I have the same question. It’s like saying if you and I are sitting together at a game, Zum, that we’re gay. Uh, no.
Just wondering … How you can tell someone’s sexual orientation from, maybe but probably not even, a full 30 seconds on the tv? … just wondering … Is she someone you know personally?
I was guessing based on how they looked and the city they were in.
Relievers walking their first batter. Drives fans nuts everywhere.
Just when I praised the fill-ins….
Well, there’s always a reason why a journeyman player is a journeyman….
big error
Fucking Pena. I am so ready for Panik to be back…supposedly he could be ready for a rehab late next week. We can only hope. To be fair, Pena has done a fair job, but he isn’t a starter, IMO.
Fucking A.
there’s nothing more frustrating as a fan than seeing a guy booting a routine fucking grounder
Well, unless he does it twice in the same game. Made me think of that game Brenley had back in the day…
And while I’m at it, bringing in Suarez for long relief after he’s done nothing but start is a bad move by Bochy.
LMAO…after he strikes-out Goldy. Hindsight is 20-20 LJ…I remember making comments like that, and subsequently letting out a big DOH!
Yeah, but walking the lead off batter is a big no-no in a close game in the late innings. I’ll take the K but Goldschmidt helped him out big time. That frisbee the pitch before should have been rattling around in the left field bleachers.
True on all counts. But overall, Suarez has been pretty damned good doing what they have needed him to do. I still think it was a huge mistake when they did not resign Petit.
Petit for the Natty Nats this year:
3-1 in 22 games, 1 start. 2.62/1.097. Just what the Giants have needed all fucking year. Nats signed him for one year at 3 mil. You telling me the Giants didn’t have that kind of coin for him. One of the rare swing and misses by the Giant’s brass…
Nice K by Suarez!
Wriggled off the hook.
Osich came in throwing strikes and got the out. What a concept.
Belt beats the shift.
Man, Belt is having a nice year.
Posey sure is …… Ah, forget it!
Go ahead say it. Very (fill in the blank) that I didn’t take Vogt in all my DFS tourneys today. Posey? One walk good for a measly 3 points.
Nah Blade … Wasting my breath … Or my limited typing skills … Besides, it’ll just make you feel worse because of that DFS selection.
Yeah, if that Posey was doing his job (carrying the team) they would be up by 10 runs today. There, I did it for ya, Lisle. 😉
BRomo .. Just what the Bullpen needs!
Romo, nicely done! We’ve missed this guy.
I went and watched that beer-blast thing again. I could watch that all day. I’d put it at 68% those 2 ladies are lesbian lovers. And if I’m wrong, so be it. Wouldn’t be the first time.
Well, if they were doing this, then yeah, go ahead and make that assumption:

Bad assumption. Why even go there. Again, it would be like you and your brother from another mother taking in a game and the assumption is made guys are gay. Whatever…
Well, it being the city of San Fransissy and all, I guess it is a reasonable assumption to make … 😉 … Yet, in the climate of present day 21st century tolerance, I’d say it is hardly an observation worth dwelling on no matter what the local. However, the attempted catch with beer laden lunch plate .. Now that was something!
I’m pretty sure all she was trying to do was keep the ball from hitting her face.
Like Chi said earlier, I’m taking the ball off the chops before dumping those $15 dollar beers. LOL
She was in a tough spot…
That’s what he said…
The entire 1960s was cruel to the Giants – No World Series wins; No Cy Youngs for Marichal; Willie Mays being aced by Hank Aaron as the best HR hitter ever due to Hank playing in a launching pad and Willie playing in a wind blown dump; Cepeda being dealt to the Cards for Ray “Who” Sadecki; Ground Hog day like 2nd place finishes every year . . . I could go on, but you get my drift. The horror, the horror . . .
Brutally true, and well said.
In an ironic, cruel, teasing twist – the 1960s cemented my undying loyalty to this franchise (despite entreaties by my ex-wife encouraging me to root for the Rockies and Broncos shortly after moving here in 1997) . . .
ARRRRRGGGGGHHHHH!!!!
True. But Three in Five, and the prospect of Four in Seven has softened it all a bit. At least for me…but I do feel bad for those great players…
Yeah, the championships change the perspective on those earlier times completely.
well, it doesn’t matter to me if they were lesbian lovers or not. I love gay people. I just thought their little lover spat they had after the beers blasted all over them was pretty funny.
Sun has been brutal today…
Ballgame! Nice tidy win.
Bullpen finally got it done.
Didn’t Casilia have a clean inning the last game he was in … Suppose we won’t see one of those again for awhile.
Yumm crow, my favorite .. Victory at any cost!
Harmonica player James Harman in a line from his song My Little Girl:
She served me crow, boys
On a silver plate
I did not like the taste of it
At least I didn’t have to wait
Best record in MLB today (again).
def not gay, btw
Nice win.
Belt continues to be a more than solid hitter and all around player. The kid would hit 35+ dingers in Cincy or Atlanta or Houston or most any other park not with a huge Death Valley from right to center.
Green actually looks like a serviceable player.
Peavy lookin a little dicey, Bochy seems to be getting smarter with a quicker hook on him now…
I think Peavy told Bochy he was outta gas today. Bochy went out and they talked before Bochy motioned to the BP. And it was a short conversation.
Arizona isn’t very good. Where is the accountability for Stewart? He just gets to make a bunch of bad decisions, then start trading guys away and he’s gets off scott-free? That must be a pretty good job if you can get it.
You sound like a frustrated Dodger fan.
That is cruel Zum
Ouch! good one Zum!
why would a frustrated Dodger fan wonder about the accountability of the AZ Gm?
Because the D-Backs have just lost two games in a row to the Giants.
maybe because they signed Greinke and LA didn’t?
which likely will cost them any shot at what Giants have 3 of recently?
Rockies franchise is even worse. Dan O’Dowd, the former GM, might as well have been a Supreme Court justice.
Speaking of sucky teams, the Padres.
You can also say that the ’60’s were a great decade for the Giants. About the only thing they didn’t do as a team was win the Series. They had some great teams stocked with some of the greatest names in baseball history. Yeah, the close calls and lack of titles sucked, but they won 90 games 6 times, 100 games once, were known for their thunderous lineups and great pitching, as well as great defensive play.
That’s the silver lining perspective. They were just unfortunate to play in a decade with other great teams and some of the best pitching ever.
They were also known for awful trades that we don’t have to re-hash…
Like I said, silver lining. Some great teams, some of the greatest to never have won a title.
Chi, I agree on Suarez. He’s been a nice surprise as have all of the call-up guys, really. Tejada with a big knock today and he’s playing much better overall since those first few games, Green with the 2-run dinger and other run-scoring hits recently, Pena’s been good. Without those guys picking up the slack the last 6 weeks would probably look a lot different.
For a farm system that gets routinely dissed by the so-called experts, year after year we see these nuggets show up and do their thing.
They might have some tough calls to make when Panik and “Specs” return.
BTW, I could not tell you “Specs” real name right now if my life depended on it…
Kent Tekulve!
As Loo mentions, when Panik, Duffy, Tomlinson, etc. return, some of the guys they reassign will have to pass through waivers.
I had to check to see who got the win: It was Kontos.
