Losing Our Way to a Division Championship
Unca’s POTD is interesting. As I’ve said several times, I’m not worried about the Dodgers even a little bit if Kershaw doesn’t come back. And the Rockies? Come on, as Summer’s Warning Track approaches (late August) their ragged, altitude-ravaged bodies will force a fade upon them. What if everyone played out at a 33% win rate? That would put the Giants at a cool 80 wins for the season. But if all 3 teams won 33% of their games the rest of the way, hey, we’d win the division and head into the post season like bosses. Sort of.
Stras today vs Cain and if Dirt’s prediction is going to come true, now would be a good time for it to begin. Maybe Stras will get one of those strained neck thingy’s that has forced him out of starts in the past.
San Dawg we are once again on the same wave length. I told someone in White Butte that my goal was to not watch a second of the Olympics. I was talking to a rich, retired white man on the driving range. We struck up a convo after he told me he liked my Giants shirt and I was blasting my drives out of the range. He looked at me like I’d lost my damn mind when I told him about my lofty goal but he couldn’t stop himself from staying and marveling at the distance of my drives. Anyway, I really don’t think it’s going to be that hard to pull off. I suppose I could accidentally wander into a room with a tv already turned on. If I avert my eyes is my goal still true? I don’t get the Olympics anymore, man. It’s lost its way. Corporate greed takeover. I couldn’t care less about a single event. You give me some Carl Lewis, some Mary Lou or some damn Flo Jo and maybe I’d get back into it….
Think I’m just being a sour puss? The US is a 47.5 point fav today v China. Hmmmm, oh yeah, I can’t wait to watch that great international *competition*.
I’m gonna be pissed if Cain doesn’t come out for the 6th. Our bullpen ain’t exactly lights out and he is getting guys out. Leave him in there until he gives up a rocket or two.
he’s struck out Harper 3 times. What is wrong with that guy? he didn’t do much at ATT either, and his BA is down to .234. Remind me again how much Nats are on the hook for?
It makes his stupid “Make baseball fun again” thing in the pre-season look even more stupid.
He can make baseball fun for Nats fans by playing better.
Blanco with nice work, a triple (3K) sombrero so far…
Parker could be getting these Blanco at-bats, and it would have more upside.
Time to give the Magical Injury Wheel a big spin…
Blanco looks like he has a shoulder strain, needs to be put on the DL, Parker up…
I’m with zum.
Cain gets to throw until one guy gets on. Then done. If the Pen coughs it up, it’s on them…
For me, it’s gotta be hard contact 2X or he stays in there. I don’t trust this pen.
…and I will count that as one!
I don’t trust this Pen either. But, I trust Cain less after 5 frames and moving towards 100 pitches. I don’t see how they can continue this 5 inning stuff with Cain and Samardz consecutively; the Pen is going to get fried by early September…
Well….you guys can’t bash Bochy on this one, he handled just as you wished. Here’s hoping the pen comes through.
Yep.
Hopefully, the Pen can get it done…
Looked up Nats stats, very HR happy–7 different guys in double figures already.
They are 3rd NL slugging 2nd HRs 4th runs scored.
However only 7th OB 8th BA.
Lot of them aren’t hitting for avg but have bunch of HRs. Ramos and Murphy having great seasons.
Zum, I was going to say, that I’d be interested to hear if Harper is still having fun playing baseball, with his BA sitting at .233 as I write this. Some had him pencilled in for the HoF prior to the season. Baseball is a humbling game.
Nunez — on those triples, the dude looks as fast as Count Chocula used to be. I can’t think of a reason why he should not be hitting leadoff instead of Span…
Strick with a nice inning…
We need more runs..
lol. Yes.
Good job by the ‘Can in that inning.
Nunez en Fuego…
Stay hot, Nunie.
Why would they not walk Posey there to set up the DP? Craw is lefty, but still, you’re already down 4…
Very nicely done. You don’t have to see 8 pitches every time up–no sense waiting if you get something to whack.
Now, THAT’s a good example of Giants baseball. Get ’em on, get ’em over, get ’em in.
What the PHUCK was that by Crawford? I swear, Giants baserunning this season has been merde…
Nice outing by Romo.
Werth 0-3 hitting .250, Rendon .264, Espinoza .222 Revere .211. Keep these guys in the yard you can get them out.
If Blanco Ks here, I will personally put him on a train at Union Station in DC after signing the DFA papers. I know where it is…
Looking at the Amtrak schedule right now. There is a Golden Sombrero Special headed for the West Coast, leaving just past midnight…
Well someone will be involved in 27 outs, on Giants side and Nats (hopefully). They’re up 6-0 I’m not sweating it one guy has more than others.
000 with the RBI single, what is this world coming to?…
There’s your back up SS. Guarantee Craw needs a day off, Triple O is in there.
Good deal turn this into laugher and let Casilla rest.
According to Schulman Gearrin is about ready to return. Whose spot would he take if they activated him?
I’d leave him in Sac pending further developments, keep him on DL somehow. If they can’t, and he has to come back, I’d toss Adrianza back and carry an extra arm for a few days. IMO the only other choice is DL Kontos…
Papelbon reduced to mop-up duty.
This has to be a little humbling for Pap…
Dusty took Harper out in the 7th before the lead got extended even more. Hmmm…
He had a grimace earlier on a swing; I wonder if he’s got an ongoing physical issue going on.
Adios gents…
As a reliever, Peavy has yet to get a single out, I think.
Still no outs for Peavy. Pretty embarrassing for him.
I wonder if his heart is even in it.
What the fuck is Bochy doing taking Smith out for in the first place? Boneheaded move.
Trying to get work for Peavy for some reason.
The Giants would be better with Gearrin in the pen than Peavy.
Agree. I wouldn’t have a problem with Peavy being the odd man out when Gearrin returns.
Yeah, the Dodgers ate the Carl Crawford contract to make their team better, and that contract was for about twice Peavy’s.
Some Belt déjà vu for Nats fans.
I was wondering if Belt had ever done anything else there beside the HR in the 18th they keep showing.
Hadn’t he not done jack that night before that?
Nice shot tho…like to see him do that once in a while right down the line in ATT-shortest distance.
Finally, we blow someone out. It feels like every game since the all star break up to now has either been a loss or a game that we barely pull out of our ass. We needed this. Who would have thought it would have come in DC with Cain going up against Strasburg???
Dirt, wasn’t it?
You, I think, SD…
Rockies are slaughtering the Marlins, 9-3.
Just me, but I disagree about Peavy being put out to pasture before his season ends. He’s had 7 quality starts this season in 21 starts. Not great, but nevertheless he has experience, a bull dog attitude and I would trust him much more than some other arms on this club, For comparison, Samardzjia has had 9 quality starts and Cain has had 5 (albeit, he was injured for part of the season). For experience alone, I would rather have Peavy than Samardzjia starting a playoff game.
Make that 12-3 Sherpas.
Yeah, Giants upset Nats!

Go see Stephanie over at Ruby’s and have a few Bud Lights and everything is gonna to be fine.
I think Cain is gonna shock the world and take down Strasburg tomorrow.
Maybe we make Stephanie our mascot?
Ichiro now one hit away from 3,000 after tonight. So if he doesn’t get one tomorrow, there’s a chance he gets it vs. the Giants.
Milestone stuff doesn’t bother me anymore, but I remember being really steamed that Aaron & Mathews both hit their 500th homers off Giants (McCormick & Marichal).
500 homers was a big deal back then…
First time me and buddies saw the Braves, Eddie Mathews just tore up BP. Guys would wind down and take fewer swings each turn before they rolled the cage off the field, but Mathews even if he only got couple swings hit them into the open space where kids would gather in RF behind the fence.
I’d still like to see Belt do more of exactly what he did in that last AB, yank one right down the line and out at home. He does lead the team in HRs with 13 (Craw with 10) and slugging .481. MR. OPS!
Yeah props to SD…10 shutout innings for Cain last 2 outings.
McCovey’s BP at Shea is burned in my memory…
Yeahhhh….I was fishing to see if anyone would remember I posted that.
What a shock- women’s beach volleyball on right now, with the Swiss team competing.
Hey ping pong! I mean table tennis.
K-Rod has officially hung it up. Never really been much of a fan of his. And the way he handled all the steroid stuff really didn’t sit well with me. I’ve never given him much thought. Good for the Yankmees now they can bring up another kid…..
Could it be that Cainer is finally getting it together? I couldn’t tell you, haven’t been able to watch a game in about 3 weeks. My landlord sold her house and we had to get out in pretty short order, so I’m crashing with my brother and his family. They have a toddler and the TV stays on kid shows. If anyone can direct me to a website where I could stream the games from, that would be great.
The MLB app has a fee. I don’t know of any free bootleg sites.
Blade might know.
Friday the 5th anniversary of Stargell hitting a ball clean out of Chavez Ravine in ’69, only guy ever to do so.
Used to be lot of yards had some seat middle of nowhere where he had deposited a ball.
I know it was only BP, but wonder if Giants have a marker where Stanton hit his at ATT?
I thought Stanton hit one out of Dodger Stadium during a game. Maybe it was batting practice.
