Stretch Grind
You know how sometimes we hear a players name and somebody says “Remember when he was a Giant?” and everyone is like “No. Absolutely no recollection.” That’s what you’ll say 10 years from now when somebody says “Remember when Gordon Beckham was a Giant?” Rich Rodriguez’s only at bat at the triple A level must have been a good one. Anyway, he’s a Brave now and we get Beckham and if I’m Specs I’m wondering just how much the Giants actually hate me.
All of a sudden, they started hitting. Let’s see if they can cobble together 2 games in a row. Someone needs to tell the Giants, before tonight’s game, that it’s ok to hit 2 games in a row…..
Somewhere is a dimly lit cell in the Clearwater county jail, Stix is whispering to himself “to get Belt in the 2 hole, I’d do it all again, I’d do it all again….”
STIX LIFE MATTERS…
I’m praying he some how gets out just to tell the tale here at the Flap
Absolutely! That is going to be a great story…hell, I would even suggest a Flapalooza in Minnesota just so we could all sit around and hear him weave that tale in person.
I wonder if there is a way to turn Stix’s mugshot into a Clint like “knowing dude” head nod GIF?
As an editor, I would say Clint is one of those words whose possible typos inspire dread.
That would fucking rock.
Let’s run the table. 5 wins in a row. #blackandorangelivesmatter
Let’s make it six. If they run the table for the remainder of the regular season, and then lay a turd in the wild card game, that run doesn’t mean jack…
just to get your morning started off on the right foot. Oh, and Wilco, I second your idea of the *Nodding Stix gif*. Maybe Zummie or one of the other gif wizards could get that done. Although I almost think it would be better to have him nodding his head sideways and we could use it after losses. lqtm
I like the sideways nod after losses even better. Great idea!
I wish there was a way we could help Stix. Based on what we know, does he deserve to be locked up?
I dont know Loo, firing at a fed helicopter may be hard to plead down…”I thought it was a UFO….”
It’s more the idea of personal freedom. Unlawful search and seizure even.
Does the Gov’t have the right to buzz your house 5 or 6 times? For a few pot plants? It’s ridiculous. Besides, he warned ’em.
I’m not sure which warning was better, the trigger finger or the hoe-shake. I’m going hoe-shake just cause that’s what Bo and Luke’s dad woulda done, and that dude was all business…..
Did we get confirmation on the hoe? Or was it a rake? Because a rake-shake would be pretty spectacular as well . . .
When a guy breaks out his garden hoe, you know you’re In for some serious shit. The feds should’ve known.
Well maybe firing in the air is one thing, firing at the helicopter ala Terminator is another thing. He could have actually killed someone…
I am seriously LMAO on you guys’ comments here, although for Stix, it is far from a laughing matter. I hope the dude can get out sometime soon. Anyone have an address? I am sure he would love someone to drop him a line. Maybe even deliver a cake with a file in it! 😉
No, Loo, I don’t believe he does. Just more over-arching intrusiveness by the federal government, IMO.
Start a Gofundme page?
All they need to do is take care of business…but if Mets lose today and Cards split the next two and we take care of da business…we will be up a game on the Mets and two on the Cards heading into Friday night.
I think the Stix nodding head idea will make it look like he is passing out…lulz! WORD!
Your right it would. That is hilarious. I think Flav’s sideways, disapproving nod after losses idea is better. Those squinty stoner eyes were made for that look.
Yeah that look would have a Grateful Dead element to it…
If you look at NL B/R batting leaders, there are hardly any Giants to be found anywhere except in one category—Triples, where Craw is tied for lead with 11 and Belt has 8. Panik hit his 7th last night; all these guys are slugs on the bases. Yard really is quirky.
There was blowup of Adam Duvall in yesterday paper about him getting to 30 HRs 30 doubles 100 rbis when they blew out Cards. The AP story said he is ,”…joining the likes of Johnny Bench, George Foster and Frank Robinson.”
Um, no f-ing way. He’s done all this in his bandbox yard for a team in dead last with 91 losses already. Adam Duvall is not going to HOF and won’t hit 52 out with 150 rbis like Foster did.
Just the mention of George Foster, another in long line of black/latin OFs Giant system used to churn out who went on to do great things elsewhere, sets me off remembering guys who originally played here all the way back to Daddy Wags and Jose Cardenal.
and on through Felipe and Matty Alou, Jesus and his neck rolls, Downtown Ollie Brown, Cepeda, Sarge Matthews and Secretary of Defense Maddox, Bobby Bonds, Larry Herndon, Chili…
Nowadays I think I’d settle for a Terry Whitfield or Willie Kirkland.
Something else about Stix and his land—isn’t it getting close to harvest time? Don’t you have to get the weed out of the ground before first chill hits for max potency etc.?
I’ve heard that is true. From a friend. Gotta be careful, willedav. With stix in custody there’s a chance that the NSA is monitoring the Flap.
I wonder if the NSA is fed up with Span leading off…
That’s a great question! Any of you NSA spooks care to chime in?!
So, Stix = Baldy = Carstie Clausen? Wow. Only on the Flap?
No, Baldy was Lisle.
Loo’s line the other night wondering if we would next hear that Lisle “strangled someone with a cello string” still has me LMAO.
Got it.
stix’s story is still unbelievable. Almost as unbelievable as a 3 hit/no walks night for Slumpy Shoulders. It sure brings a whole new light to all of his work out in the “fields” and the butter used in that leek potato hash recipe. I wonder if there’s police footage of the whole event. Eventually that type of evidence is dumped to the public record or can be attained through a Freedom of Information request.
Fun fact:
In the 2014 playoff series vs. the Nats, Span batted .105 for the Nats in that series.
So….Span has already helped the Giants win a ring!
I remember he was awful in that series, as were most of the other Nats.
One of the stories from the 9/24 Stix thread said a review hearing was scheduled for today in district court, wonder if there will be any updates.
Found another video:
http://www.valleynewslive.com/content/news/Reports-of-Polk-County-deputy-shot-389493002.html
Well there’s no proof he fired the weapon…he has that going for him…
Miller last night openly wondered if Span was hurt — when he got into that pickle. What are the odds on Span needing some other post-season surgery?…
Span has been obviously injured since at least July which is part of the reason I’ve wanted to see Gorky called up.
Shit, all Stix has to say is he was firing a warning shot. He wasn’t aiming at the helicopter but it hit it anyway. If cops can shoot unarmed people in the streets certainly he can say his eyesight is bad and he just wanted to shoot across the bow so to speak.
Drug activity my ass.
Good idea, Chuck. And maybe Krukow can testify that Stix occasionally gets a “wild hair up his nose”…
Another thing I’m tired of hearing is that Blanco (or pagan, Panik etc) “has been nursing a broken back all season and tried to play through it.”
Fucking replace the guy already.
I would recommend to Stix to swallow some pride at his court proceedings, and show remorse and contrition. If he goes in there politically defiant, I’m guessing he’ll get a harsher sentencing. His public defender needs to emphasize mental health issues with Stix, and go for a mental health counseling type of sentencing.
A public defender is not necessarily a bad lawyer. I’ve only served on a jury one time in my life, and I was impressed with the public defender’s performance in that trial. He was a fairly young guy who did a much better job than the young DA assistant who was the prosecutor.
I read online somewhere that Duvall was on the Giants 25-man roster for at least one of the playoff series in ’14. Is that true? It seems like a questionable statement. I don’t remember him ever getting into any games.
He didn’t appear in any postseason games.
Don’t know if he was on the PS roster, Zum…
Looks like he was on wild-card game roster:
http://www.mccoveychronicles.com/2014/10/1/6881035/giants-25-man-roster-nl-wild-card-game
I reserve the right to be silent on all matters Stix.
if he breaks outta the clink I am letting him take an entire day here at the Flap to explain himself. 🙂
When I think of Stix’s scenario I can’t help of thinking of the 70’s/80’s band Styx and this hit song:”Man in the Wilderness”
Sometimes I feel like a man in the wilderness.
I’m lonely soldier off to war.
Sent away to die, never quite knowing why.
Sometimes it makes no sense at all.
If one of you guys can pull it up on YouTube I would be grateful!!
I wonder if Stix would care to discuss this here.
He’s a magnificent writer, but didn’t interact a whole lot…
In honor of Stix I will go out and buy some Pixy Sticks candy and a vintage Pixy Sticks pick me up game!!
Whose to say he doesn’t have access to the Internet in the slammer? I guess it’s possible that they have a community area with a shared computer for inmates to browse approved sites. He could be reading this right now.
HAHA, I was thinking the same thing. Back when facebook was first starting out with the general public I had a buddy that I hadn’t seen in a while who was, unbeknownst to me, in the slammer. We were corresponding back and forth and he abruptly stopped responding. I didn’t think anything of it until we were chatting in person a few years later and he told me about how he was violating privilege rights to access FB and got the rights revoked for his whole area.
1. Denard Span (L) CF
2. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
3. Buster Posey (R) C
4. Hunter Pence (R) RF
5. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
6. Angel Pagan (S) L
7. Joe Panik (L) 2B
8. Conor Gillaspie (L) 3B
9. Jeff Samardzija (R) P
Nice song choice, Chuck. “Prog rock” like that is kind of a guilty pleasure for me. Prog rock can get a bit Spinal Tap-ish at times, but I generally think a lot of cool music came out of that genre. I eventually saw Styx in concert several years ago at a county fair. Dennis DeYoung was no longer in the band, which was too bad. I wouldn’t mind seeing Rush in concert someday. I’m a big King’s X fan, who I think were at least partially influenced by Rush.
Queensryche is also pretty good for newer prog atuff. Yeah, Styx was always a battle between the bombasticness of DeYoung and the harder rock leanings of Tommy Shaw. Saw ’em once at the request of an old GF. Not really into them but they put on a good show. Very tight band.
Bands like Yes and early pre Steve Perry Journey were real good. Chick Corriea, Al DiMeola, stuff like that. I couldn’t take REO Speedwagon for whatever reason. Even Rush was a bit too shrill for me. They were another band I saw that I didn’t really care for. I was there to see Pat Travers. That being said, they put on a real good show. Outstanding musicians, but man Geddy Lee’s voice was like nails on a chalkboard. Jon Anderson didn’t make me cringe like Geddy did.
I guess the fact we went and got Glenn Beckham means that the Nooner thing isn’t as day to day as they’d like us to believe.
Thinking the same thing Chuck!
Beckham’s here to get some southern laughs out of Peavy,Posey and Bum.
Duvall dunks a cheap 2 run single off Leake …2-0 Reds (3)
Shit, Mets are winning. Cin 2-1 up on StL.
Reds trying hard to blow it…
Now they’re really trying.
Dead-birds! Better take advantage…
Cards lose after leaving tying run at third with no outs in 9th.
Gameface Gillaspie with leadoff knock. I like this guy actually.
Giants win tonite they’d be 2 up on Cards with 4 to go.
Chatwood vs.deadwood.
Caught a huge break there getting the DP from Arenado.
Shit that guy is lethal 40 bombs,130 ribs, 2 years in a row now. She has to be the MVP winner..
He…
Though he/she hits better then most of the Giants..
mlb.com has a 4 minute vid up and available on the 2002 Giants run to the pennant. Kinda cool…
Another nondescript pitcher shutting us down…Augh…
smaHRdzija’s done without giving up too much, so it’s hard to complain. Let’s get some effing runs.
I think Stix well may be in deep shit. I truly hope his defense lawyers know what they’re doing. Federal public defenders are better than state, in my experience (in CA and WA). More resources, for one thing. The law on aerial surveillance is pretty well settled. Generally, it’s ok. It can become too intrusive with low buzzing or circling or hovering. But the penalty for violating the 4th amendment is exclusion of the evidence gathered (“fruit of the poisonous tree,” as they say). That’s it. imo, there’s no legal excuse for firing a gun at a helicopter unless the copter first blasted some sort of ordnance, etc. at you. Doesn’t appear to be our facts. So, serious shit.
My favorite dope growing song is a work of genius by Steve Earle called Copperhead Road. A DEA chopper buzzes the final verse. I’m also reminded of another work of genius, Powderfinger, by Neil Young (Beat Farmers covered it well).
Anyway, best of luck to Stix–in every way.
I was thinking that, at a minimum, he’d be facing asset forfeiture but it looks like Minnesota made a change to the law in 2014 so that a conviction is required. I guess that delays it a bit. All joking aside it really sucks for him.
And the heart of the order is mowed down again. FFS!
Got to get this one.
If we had the 87 team hitting tonight we would win tonight..
Fuck this.
Giants suck every cock in town…
LET’S GO!!!!
Im up im up…where the f is half the stadium????
Staying up for one night game like last night just kills me the next night…Loo I imagine is going strong after sun set…
If we had the ’77 team hitting, we’d be winning tonight.
If we had Jimmy Davenport’s team we could win…ok a bit of a stretch, but I loved the guy..
As it is,, we have rally killer up.
Fuck Span!!!
Come on, BB! One time . . .
Do it for Stix!
And did they not have a better option to pinch hit for Span????
Lou Seal would have done better
We need some ’89 magic…I just saw the Cards lost. One good thing. Cmon let’s get a 2 game lead with 4 to play…
Got to TAKE ADVANTAGE!!!
That is maybe the one time where sliding makes sense.
Lucky dumbo Belt didn’t dislocate his face…
Win one for the Stixer . . .
Fuck me, I thought that was live for 1/10th of a second.
Can they rally in the 9th one fucking time?
Rally Moth Fucking Rally Moth…
Lulz!
Ill take a walk…
Stayin alive stayin alive baby
The Rally Moth is dead to me….
Same ‘ol shit.
Criminy. Not gonna make this easy are they? There’s torture, then there’s this.
I’m frustrated so have to ask. Has a playoff level team ever gone a whole season with ZERO comeback wins in the 9th or later?? I think we are 0-64 when trailing after 8 innings
I woulda rather seen Beckham up instead of Span.
I am still root root rooting for the home team to make it to the one-game play-in… but they really don’t even deserve it, do they? Not that the other 2 teams seem to really deserve it either.
Disappointing to see Buster get so over-matched in that last AB. He looked lost against that guy.
Looks like the best this wreck of a team can do is go to NYC to face the Mets.
Up against any decent starter, this squad is essentially SOL; the Giants starter has to pitch a shutout or 1 run game to win the damn thing…
If you know your Giant -Dodger history, you know what will most likely happen this weekend.
Do I even have to say it?
