A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Time For 2002 R(even)ge?

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 11, 2016

Ashamed to admit I didn’t make it to the end of that game, not by a long shot. I did what I normally do when I don’t see the end, I opened up my lap top and went to the Flap.

590 comments. Either something really good or something really bad happened.

Or both….

I read through the highs and lows, then went to mlb.com to see it for myself. I don’t really think you can understate this Gillaspie thing. For starters, I can now spell his last name without having to look it up. That in itself is a miracle. Driving down the hill to Safeway this morning I was listening to the KNBR guys jizzing the radio waves and heard that lefties are hitting .122 off Chapman in his career. He had never given up a triple before last night. And had that been a park normally configured his no-triples record would still be in tact (cue: Diggity’s grass roots effort to get the park changed).

I’m just glad we got at least one. I watched the Red Sox game and as it wound down you could just see how desperate and disappointed all those players were. Swept out of the post season at home. Screw that.

I’d like to lather up the hate for Lackey tonight but I just don’t have it in me. That 2002 game wasn’t won by him it was lost by Dusty for starting Livan. And do you remember who are two pinch hitters were that game?

Shingo and Tom Goodwin. We never stood a chance in Game 7.

Instead of talking about tonight’s game I want to bring back and old quote from the past. It was 2012 and the Giants were down 2-0 to the Reds. Hunter Pence gathered the team around him. Retold by Tim Flannery, I’ll let The Reverend take it from here…..

“GET IN HERE, EVERYONE GET IN HERE..LOOK INTO EACH OTHER EYES..NOW! LOOK INTO EACH OTHERS EYES, I WANT ONE MORE DAY WITH YOU, IT’S THE MOST FUN, THE BEST TEAM I HAVE EVER BEEN ON SAID THE REVEREND HUNTER PENCE. ” AND NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS WE MUST NOT GIVE IN, WE OWE IT TO EACH OTHER, PLAY FOR EACH OTHER, I NEED ONE MORE DAY WITH YOU GUYS, I NEED TO SEE WHAT THERIOT (JERRY) WILL WEAR TOMORROW, I WANT TO PLAY DEFENSE BEHIND VOGELSONG BECAUSE HE’S NEVER BEEN TO THE PLAYOFFS..PLAY FOR EACH OTHER NOT YOURSELF, WIN EACH MOMENT, WIN EACH INNING, IT’S ALL WE HAVE LEFT”

Now go out there and do what you do with your Even Year Bullshit……

it is utterly absurd we don’t have a single fucking guy down there who can get an out. Moore pitches 8 fucking god-like innings. Every reliever we have should fucking execute themselves as soon as this game is over.

    • Lurker John's avatar Lurker John said, on October 11, 2016 at 9:12 pm

We’re still going to need one or two productive hitters. Number one defense in MLB this year, Craw’s 2 errors tonight notwithstanding. Bullpen and hitting. Critical.

  56. Lurker John's avatar Lurker John said, on October 11, 2016 at 9:11 pm

The sheer consistency of shit performances coming out of that bullpen is stunning. Just one after another. What is the final tally, 32 blown saves? And I want to know what the fuck Romo finds so funny in that situation. Several of these guys have been great Giants, but I’m done with them. Get them out of here.

There has to be serious questioning of Bochy for this.
Yes, he wasn’t pitching. But, he orchestrated the same BS rote moves that led to the previous meltdowns. Law gives up one hit, he’s gone. And, he’s one of the few with strike out stuff, and has a nasty curve that could draw a DP grounder. Chuck is right — Lopez, what an ignominious way to leave the organization. He’s so afraid of his stuff, he walks guys.
    Arggggh.

2 unearned runs as a result of bad throws by our gold glove ss.
Gillespie and Panic 6/7 tonight. Blanco came up in key situations and continued to fail. Pagan being hurt cost us more than anything…Bochy insistence on playing him didn’t help

Chi, IMO this is not worse than 2002 Game 6. We had never won anything my whole life as a Giants fan until that point so that loss when we had a nice lead was completely heartbreaking. This is just pure anger. We have three titles and no guarantee we win Game 5 or the next series. Cubs will now destory the Nats or Fodgers…Bochy did not seem all that upset even though he fucked around too much that inning. Will Smith was probably the better move than Javier Lopez who I think every one of us said he was done back in June…real pisser tonight…

    • Lurker John's avatar Lurker John said, on October 11, 2016 at 9:30 pm

You’re right, GH, 3 titles makes up for a lot and makes it easier to get over things like this. I would not be so rational if the Giants still hadn’t won one. This was brutal but nowhere near the 2002 Series.

This team has tons of heart. These last two games and the Mets game proves it, as does the Dodger series. They just have holes that weren’t addressed. They had better be this off-season or they may have a fan base mutiny on their hands. Spend the money and get some quality relievers in here and get a couple of hitters who can actually produce. I will be so pissed if some serious effort isn’t made to fix the things that aren’t working. A team this wealthy has now excuses.

The heart will still be there. Plug the holes and this team will contend next year.
