Have a Slice of Cake. And a Contract
Maybe this has been reported elsewhere already but I was loling on the ride into work this morning listening to the KNBR morning guys retell how Morse got his deal.
He was at Hunter Pence’s wedding and was talking to Bobby Evans over cake. Evans asked him if he had anything left in the tank and Morse gave the thumbs up. They hand shook the deal. So I guess the advanced analytics were off the table for this signing.
Also: we have signed Aaron Hill to a minor league deal. I like this move a lot. Right handed power who crushes lefties. He could be a great utility guy or a PH who could, cover your ears, HIT A PINCH HIT BOMB TO WIN A GAME.
Bombs? Bombs? We don’t need no steeeenking bombs!
Shit, why not? Dead pull hitters can do some damage at AT&T
Uh oh.

I don’t see how a guy like this (or Morse) makes it.
Bochy keeps 12 pitchers, leaves 13.
8 regs (including whomever in LF which ain’t gonna be Morse)
Hundley
2 backups in OF one of which has to be able to play CF (again not Morse)
2 backups on IF one of which has to be SS (not Hill hopefully not Rollins either)
That’s 13. I’d be surprised they axe Gameface Gillaspie and someone has to back up Span (and Pence) and defend the huge OF so hitter only types I don’t see.
Other than Cain and who gets final pen slots don’t see dramatic movement to roster out of ST.
I think you are right, and regardless of how it shakes out, WillieD, it is gonna be interesting.
one of my fav players of all time

Giants hired Vince Coleman (!) as their new minor league roving baserunning and outfield instructor in minors.
I was hoping for Reuben Rivera. . .
Speaking of bombs, didn’t Coleman throw cherry bombs at NY fans or some shit?
i think he called it a fire cracker.
It was the other way around at Yankee Stadium one day in 1970.
Ask Ray Fosse if he remembers Ruben Espada…
Had to have been later than that. 1980?
Huh.It was at Dodger stadium in 1993. 3 people were injured.
With all the infielders invited to camp, does this mean Specs is getting traded?
Better not trade specs, he’s the only guy that can run to 1st without a walker…
I actually think Specs will be one of the ones who will be evaluated thoroughly as a utility guy…
Sure whether see Specs in the OF(LF are CF) any day and twice on Tuesday over Morse…
From Heyman: SFGoants (!) sign slade heathcott to minors deal. Big league camp invite
Former Yanks OF
What’s a Goants?
“Giants Outfield And Not Terribly Speedy?”
As for Coleman, maybe he can light a fuse under the baserunners . . .
The grounds crew must be excited about training with the tarp.
They need to keep Specs. The dude is clutch…
I like Specs a lot and think either him, Panik or the great and all knowing Nunie will eventually go elsewhere in a package with Strickland and the loser of the Mac/Park derby for a big name vet at the deadline – if we’re not dead. Specs wasn’t clutch vs. Cubs (0-6/3K’s), but I don’t read anything into that small sample…
Specs is listed at 6’3″/180. If he fills out and packs on some muscle – who knows what he could be?
I had no idea he was that tall…
He’ll be 27 in June. He may be done growing…
If he eats his spinach..Specs could turn into Popeye…
Per Baggs in the Merc, Pence is not taking batting today — he came into camp with “mild irritation” on his side. So, they’re not taking any risks. Injury to, I guess, his left side. How can he have an injury like this essentially as he rolls into camp, after a 5 month offseason? The OF is looking dicey and thin and headed for DL stints already. Apparently, Parker has the leg up on LF just because he’s older at 28 and out of options, compared to Williamson (26 with options left). Another story — I’m not convinced Rollins even belongs in camp…
Guaranteed it’s a girlfriend/wife related injury.
I hope he’s happy. She destroyed his career.
Yoko Pence…
It still just baffles me like I’m sure other Flappers that this cheapwad organization ( yeah I’ll say it even with a decent top 10 payroll I assume?) would just say :Hey we picked up a closer so that’s it,enjoy your Christmas&NewYears everyone!
When you could just once go “Balls Out” and think outside of the Box and get a big time LF with power! But nooo not this ownership with sell out streak intact / wiping theirs asses with 💯 dollar bills of are money etc etc etc! Bobby Evans is still just a puppet with no strings imo and will always be second fiddle to Sabean and Baer and of course the ownership to make any trades happen, which won’t happen till the trade deadline again as usual if hopefully we’re still in it and not be sellers..
As much as I (along with some others here) have wondered aloud that the front office hasn’t done enough this off-season, I can’t even remember the last time the Giants were *sellers* at the trade deadline. Not too many other fans of other teams can say that….
The big mistake was not going after Cespedes after the 2015 season…
agreed
Giants have tons of non roster infielders in camp in their mid to late 30s. Their infield is pretty well set before any one of those geezers sets foot on a practice diamond. Yet, the OF depth is a total question mark, IMO. Why don’t they have a throng of non roster OFers in camp — guys that actually could add something, and I don’t mean Morse…
The Giants owners are kind of a weird lot. They exist as some kind of mysterious star-chamber. They axed Magowan over the Zito contract, and they axed Mr. Bow-tie over having to eat the remainder of Rowand’s contract. They hired Baer to speak to the masses, and be their public face. Who knows what goes on behind their closed doors. Maybe it’s like the Hotel California, with beasts being stabbed by steely knives.
Kyrie Irving. The guy can hit a jumper, but he also believes that the earth is “flat”…

Jesus, Kyrie. Look out the window of the airplane you are flying in 3 times a fucking week.
Shit, they can’t trade Strickland. My wife just found him a place to live.
Big loss for Cardinals- young pitching prospect Reyes needs Tommy John surgery.
I hope Irving was joking when he was talking about the Earth being flat. If he’s that delusional, he needs help.
That would be as clinically insane as believing 3 million illegal votes were cast in the last election.
wow bad loss for Cal men last night even tho 2 best players both did well. Stanford (which had lost 5 of last 6) got some scoring from one of guards and cashed in on turnovers and free throws to score more than they usually do. Cal (who doesn’t have a really good W vs. top teams in league) has Oregon here next week and then road trip to Utah and Colo. Colo is hot right now and might sneak in at Cal’s expense.
Not good.
