The Longest of Odds

Somehow I missed this yesterday: The Span Man hit a home run. Did anyone see it? This is incredible. Also, a championship was won at Dodger Stadium. Therefore, I will declare yesterday to be “Miracle Day.”

Seriously, a Span bomb and a championship at Dodger Stadium. I’m still trying to calculate the longshot odds of that bizarre, unlikely exacta from coming in on the SAME DAY.

Also, left field. WordPress has upgraded something and now, of course, I can’t find where they put the polls. So let’s go “old school” and you can just put your preference in the comment section below. Would you like to see Pagan signed and inserted into LF or would you rather see Parker out there?

 

I’ll cast the first vote for….Parker.

    Zum is right, time to find out if Parker is the answer. I think he could hit 15-20 HRs, and once Williamson’s leg heals he should be in there too.
    Pagan could probably help LA, and just like Romo he can wave his rings in their faces as someone who has been a part of winning a World Series, something they know nothing about.

    Colin Kaep thought for the day: I don’t get why people are wondering why he hasn’t found a job. Blackballed? Absurd. If he was an elite QB he’d have several offers. He stinks, he’s an absolute SHELL of what he was in 2012. And NFL owners shouldn’t be forced to hire back up QB’s who come with a lot of baggage…..

      Disagree. There are a lot of crummy QBs that will find work in the NFL somewhere, including one already on board here. I read yesterday Geno Smith signed–end of story.

      There is significant fanbase in every NFL city I imagine that hates him with a passion regardless of talent level or respect of his peers. I was surprised at what I read from bloggers on football sites; how many absolutely revile him and their level of vitriol. Any team known to make overtures will face a severe backlash, and this has everything to do with how he has expressed himself.

        my point is that all he is is a back up QB and a borderline one at that. So why deal with him if you are going to get backlash from your fanbase about him? He’s simply not worth the hassle.

        blackballed would be what happened to Barry. Barry couldn’t find a job and he was still very productive. In my opinion, Kaep is below replacement level (possibly at it). Owners shouldn’t be forced to pay someone to be at or below replacement level.

    LMAO – Those ARE some long odds. Maybe not as long as the odds for Leicester City to win the 2015–16 Premier League (I think they were like 2000-1 or 5000-1 odds)…which they did…

    Zumiee – I get the team trying to get younger in the OF. Parker is a good start. But when you look at the current possibilities for OF help this year, it looks grim. If Pagan would take a one-year deal, I think the team would be foolish to not jump on that. I recall your post a couple of days ago about Tanner Roark starting last night’s game (you were underwhelmed, I believe). That kid pitched the game of a lifetime last night. That was a pitching clinic if I ever saw one.

      again, if the task is to pick a player from a pool of shitty players you pick the player who isn’t going to help you much but you need to fill out the rest of your team AND who isn’t going to cause problems with your fan base. If the task was to pick a player from a pool of studs maybe you pick Kaep because he’ll make your team better and the risk of turning off the fanbase is much less.
      Guys like Kaep, at this point in his career, are a dime a dozen. Owners shouldn’t be forced to have to sign a guy who’s a dime a dozen.

Again, hiring wife-beaters and guys who kill people while driving drunk is AOK to the NFL (Budweiser, anyone?). Come on down, Pacman! Greg Hardy? Welcome!!! Donte Stallworth? No harm, no foul (since you can afford to pay off the family).

      My point is, he would be a lot better than a few starters out there, let alone the backups. Kappy has had a dogshit team around him for 2 years now, the coaching has been awful, and he isn’t as bad as what has been shown. take a look at Alex Smith for an example of a guy who had shitty coaching.

      He’s not a 3rd string guy hanging on. He’s a decent QB on a dogshit team. If he was on the Broncos last year they would have made the playoffs.

    Kind of ironic 7 yr anniversary of O Care. Doesn’t look like Ryan and T are going to get anything done since their own can’t agree on what is proposed and this in the House where they have control still. Those who helped put the T in there are pissed at what he’s come up with and won’t back it. Their own constituents realize they are going to get screwed and T isn’t able to do what he promised (a little too late,lol).

    too many issues—they’ve taken away taxes on rich (who save a ton of $$ on their plan) and don’t want to cover poor elderly disabled without taking away profit margin of insurers or drug companies. so less will have care ultimately, and others will pay more for it as they age and have more health issues.

    Unless govt gets involved in a big way and ignores deficits, and not by cutting state subsidies, no way health care in America ever works for everyone. we won’t pay taxes like they do in Scandinavia, and we won’t cap profits of those who make out like they do in Switzerland. Lose lose.

      Citizens United and unfettered lobbyist access to those in Congress are the 2 biggest impediments to any meaningful change.

      Term limits would be a big first step to holding these guys accountable.

      I emphatically feel that Citizens United is the single biggest threat to our democracy. When people like the Koch brothers can throw unlimited amounts of money at a campaign or candidate, that is NOT a true democracy. We are drifting further and further away from being a government of the people, by the people, and for the people. I am a huge proponent of having all elections being publicly financed. There needs to be true transparency from where the money is coming for elections.

      On health care, the ACA has major issues, but the AHCA is a fucking train wreck waiting to happen (unless you are very rich). I am a firm believer in universal health/a single payer system. Here in CA state senator Lara has introduced legislation for a state-based single payer health care system. Given the dems control both the house and senate in CA, and with Jerry Brown as governor, I think the bill has a true chance of passing.

      The ACA has its problems, no doubt, but it is a whole hell of a lot better than what is being proposed by Ryan and Trump. And the kicker is that Trump during the campaign, on 60 Minutes, insisted that he would institute a health care plan where everyone would have insurance. Yeah, right…

      If Obamacare is not replaced and not sure they can pass a replacement, Obamacare will financially collapse in the near future because most providers will pull out and it becomes financially unsustainable. Any insurer who offers health insurance in any state should be forced to compete in every state…

      I had to go on Kaiser out of pocket (1099 contractor) about 14 years ago. It was $1,200 a month. can’t imagine it being cheaper should anyone have to pay for their own these days without the ACA. Or even with.

    Just saw where the vote on the AHCA has been delayed. Ultra conservatives and moderates both have issues with the bill. Big blow to Ryan and Trump. Doom Da Doom Doom…

    They are saying it may come up for vote in the next couple of days…

    Per the Associated Press piece I read: “a Quinnipiac University poll found that people disapprove of the GOP legislation by 56 percent to 17 percent, with 26 percent undecided. Trump’s handling of health care was viewed unfavorably by 6 in 10.

    The survey was conducted March 16 to 21 with a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.”

    All about March Madness for me right now Zumie..Ok except for Giants W/S Championships which all of us waited a eternity to have the satisfaction to finally do the “Fuck yeah Knowing Nod” starting in 2010!!
    But March Madness which I participate with Buddy’s 16 people (Mostly guys, but a few ladies as well get 4 picks(all drawn out of hat 🎩 for your start number.16 then back down with 16 gets 2 picks in a row back to 1 who then gets 2 back up the picks.for years and you sit around drink beers&smoke a real good cigar (Had a few Cuban’s Romeo Juliet’s illegally) is undeniably the best as you try to 1 up your friends in the tournament, furiously checking out stats and RPI ratings & strength of schedules, it’s a chess match at times as your hoping for a checkmate.Thing is you have shitty W/S at times, Football SB’s,Pro Basketball,Hockey etc.. But these College games are incredible usually coming down to a buzzer beater are OT just fantastic every round!

    In the “how many HRs will Belt hit” thread I already predicted that Parker will lead the team in HRs this year, so, yeah, he’d better be starting in LF…. 🙂 Pagan as a one-year backup might be better than anyone slated for 4th or 5th OFer at this point, although I’d still like to see Marrero make it.

      bigs unable to defend inside. X ran better sets and got better shots.
      Didn’t care for Miller’s O vs. zone either—too much dribbling not enough ball reversal to set up shooters.
      High post should have been in middle of FT line for a pass/shot instead of trying to screen one of the guards, out of which they got nothing.

      Backing up Craw at SS has to take up one of the bench spots, right? This sounds like an issue to me.
      Hill is 34-35 and hasn’t played there in 10 yrs, and Gillaspie obviously can’t either. Nunez has been a SS back up since Yanks days. Specs (with the dreaded options) doesn’t seem is even going to make the club so who gives Craw a day off?

    One of the latest adjustments to the Ryan/Trump healthcare bill is to cut coverage of maternity, and “wellness visits,” which I guess means what used to be called “an annual check-up.”

      When he went for the MRI the other day, and there was discussion on what they already knew…I am not surprised at all.

      Will be interesting to see who gets plugged-in. I am guessing they try to put Osich there, but he has been so damned inconsistent, plus I always saw Osich as more a lefty-specialist.

    Keeping O88 around this long just about confirms he sticks! Really pathetic the Giants continue this maddening pattern.
    Rollins like a lot of overcooked vets taking a roster spot(hmm Cain comes to mind, but his is all about the coin, the G’s will try a squeeze something out of nothing before his release)it’s frustrating cause most geriatric players look at the Giants 1st for a tryout knowing their bite first on the bait due to their track record of vet signings..
