A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Winning With Pitching And No Blisters

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on May 24, 2017

I’ve given up on our line up. I’m back to the *old days* where I just count on our pitchers to throw shut outs or give up no more than 2 runs. That didn’t work out so good last night for ol’ Johnny Blisters.

Matt Moore could step up or he could get blasted again. I’m choosing to pin my hopes on him stepping up, not nibbling and throwing the ball like a boss.

this is such a great story. Either Roger Moore was a great dude or Roger Moore was clinically insane. There is no in between.

That is fucking awesome . . . I liked him in the Saint but not so much as Bond but the guy looked as genuine and classsy as they come.

That is a cool-ass story. I personally was always a Sean Connery Bond guy, but also liked Daniel Craig. Roger Moore wasn’t awful…just not one of my favorites. I agree with Charlie about digging him in “The Saint.”

    Great story.
One reason I still get Chron delivered to my house is to read box scores, always a good story.
Dodgers struck out 19 times last night as they edged Cards in 13. Pederson is hitting .206.
That’s better than Cutch, who after another 0-5 is at even .200 Mendoza line. Yikes

Among other bottom feeders CF, Lorenzo Cain of Royals homered, his 3rd with 10 rbis (?), batting .266.
Phils have dropped Odubel Herrera to 6th in LU, batting .238.
Mariners J Dyson ex Royal batting .206
Meanwhile, Stros Marisnick went 3-4 and while batting 9th is now at .296.

Cueto has to get healthy enough before he could be dealt anywhere. As Flav mentioned before, props to him for gutting it out but he’s obviously not the same dominant guy.

On McCoveyChron site, good news from Minor lines blog in Sac.
Beede wins, Specs 3-5 playing 2b. Slater in CF with 2 hits raises avg to .313.
And um, Hill 2-5 with triple and HR playing 3b.
Previous game Hwang with 3 run HR.
    Gameface 5 innings at 1b 1-2. Hmmnn.
Transactions wire should be heating up soon.

Giants are just most mismatched team I can remember.
IF: Nunez your everyday starter handed 3b job to open season
Arroyo Panik Craw Belt GG plus Posey

Gameface Specs Hill Hwang (what are they gonna do with him?) in AAA

Meanwhile Gorks is still roaming the OF and walking back to dugout with his .160 BA
I was not fan of bringing back Pagan , but no way he would have been near as bad as what Giants have thrown out there. Marrero supposedly being sold off to the J-league, yeow.

I saw the Moore story yesterday. Very cool and a lifetime memory for the kid. Moore was my least favorite Bond, but he did make some good movies and even as Bond you could see he was a decent guy, at least compared to the edgy Connery. Anyway, RIP.

  6. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on May 24, 2017 at 8:55 am

Yeah, with you there, John. The one thing most people miss is that in the books, Bond was much more the flawed anti-hero than the suave quipping Brit. One reason I like Daniel Craig’s version.

blisters are different. Fucking Hepes-hand Hill has been dealing with them for a year and a half no matter how much time he takes off.

      • djloo27's avatar djloo27 said, on May 24, 2017 at 9:20 am

Nolan Ryan used to soak his hand in pickle brine. I think that was to prevent them…

      • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on May 24, 2017 at 9:46 am

Moises Alou used to piss on his hands for some reason.

      • Lurker John's avatar Lurker John said, on May 24, 2017 at 10:42 am

I think both those things are supposed to toughen the skin. Personally, I’d take the pickle brine.

  8. zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on May 24, 2017 at 9:37 am

Krukow on KNBR this morning talked about how tricky it is dealing with blisters. Just resting the hand isn’t good. The blistered area still needs to get regular pitching work to keep a callous above the blister to protect the area. He said generally a blister forms underneath a callous.

      • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on May 24, 2017 at 10:03 am

He’s not sucking, he’s just not dominating. If we sat him and called up *whoever* they wouldn’t do any better and, likely, would be much worse.

  11. chipower9's avatar chipower9 said, on May 24, 2017 at 11:09 am

Moore – nibbler or BOSS. Fuck that, we have no time or need for nibblers. Nibblers are pussies. Just be the boss and get’er done!

A win today would be particularly sweet, as it would ensure a winning roadie, and set them up for taking the series with Smardge on the bump, tomorrow.

  12. chipower9's avatar chipower9 said, on May 24, 2017 at 11:13 am

I saw just bits and pieces of the game last night. By the time I got home, it was 2-0 and basically the first thing I saw was the dinger that made it 4-0. Looking at the box, it appears that Cueto, outside of giving up three bombs, pitched decently: 6 IP, 98 pitches, 64 for strikes, with 8 Ks and only one BB.

So, I think physically, Cueto is OK. When guys give up these bombs during games that otherwise are well-pitched, is it just a brain-fart where they hang a pitch? That would seem to be the explanation for Cueto. Thoughts?

    • zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on May 24, 2017 at 11:32 am

Cueto said it’s hard for him to finish pitches off, so there’s less movement. His velocity has been down this year. He could probably survive the mistake pitches better with more velocity and movement.

Speaking of nibblers, Broxton is brutal these days. Not a power pitcher anymore. He comes into the bottom of the 12th or whatever it was last night, and gets the first two Dodgers out, and then, for some reason, really starts nibbling to Kikee Hernandez, like he was pitching to Babe Ruth. Walks him. And then gives up a double in the right field corner to the next guy. Ball game. A really irritating ending to that game. I wonder if Daniel threw something at his TV set.
