Winning With Pitching And No Blisters
I’ve given up on our line up. I’m back to the *old days* where I just count on our pitchers to throw shut outs or give up no more than 2 runs. That didn’t work out so good last night for ol’ Johnny Blisters.
Matt Moore could step up or he could get blasted again. I’m choosing to pin my hopes on him stepping up, not nibbling and throwing the ball like a boss.
this is such a great story. Either Roger Moore was a great dude or Roger Moore was clinically insane. There is no in between.
That is fucking awesome . . . I liked him in the Saint but not so much as Bond but the guy looked as genuine and classsy as they come.
That is a cool-ass story. I personally was always a Sean Connery Bond guy, but also liked Daniel Craig. Roger Moore wasn’t awful…just not one of my favorites. I agree with Charlie about digging him in “The Saint.”
Great story, but how does grandad not know or ever heard of James Bond?…
My grandad wouldn’t have known who he was either.
Great story.
One reason I still get Chron delivered to my house is to read box scores, always a good story.
Dodgers struck out 19 times last night as they edged Cards in 13. Pederson is hitting .206.
That’s better than Cutch, who after another 0-5 is at even .200 Mendoza line. Yikes
Among other bottom feeders CF, Lorenzo Cain of Royals homered, his 3rd with 10 rbis (?), batting .266.
Phils have dropped Odubel Herrera to 6th in LU, batting .238.
Mariners J Dyson ex Royal batting .206
Meanwhile, Stros Marisnick went 3-4 and while batting 9th is now at .296.
Cueto has to get healthy enough before he could be dealt anywhere. As Flav mentioned before, props to him for gutting it out but he’s obviously not the same dominant guy.
On McCoveyChron site, good news from Minor lines blog in Sac.
Beede wins, Specs 3-5 playing 2b. Slater in CF with 2 hits raises avg to .313.
And um, Hill 2-5 with triple and HR playing 3b.
Previous game Hwang with 3 run HR.
Gameface 5 innings at 1b 1-2. Hmmnn.
Transactions wire should be heating up soon.
Giants are just most mismatched team I can remember.
IF: Nunez your everyday starter handed 3b job to open season
Arroyo Panik Craw Belt GG plus Posey
Gameface Specs Hill Hwang (what are they gonna do with him?) in AAA
Meanwhile Gorks is still roaming the OF and walking back to dugout with his .160 BA
I was not fan of bringing back Pagan , but no way he would have been near as bad as what Giants have thrown out there. Marrero supposedly being sold off to the J-league, yeow.
Put them all in LF and see who sticks.
Johnny Blisters. lulz
I saw the Moore story yesterday. Very cool and a lifetime memory for the kid. Moore was my least favorite Bond, but he did make some good movies and even as Bond you could see he was a decent guy, at least compared to the edgy Connery. Anyway, RIP.
Yeah, with you there, John. The one thing most people miss is that in the books, Bond was much more the flawed anti-hero than the suave quipping Brit. One reason I like Daniel Craig’s version.
Agreed.
Again, isn’t it better to sit Cueto and let him heal up rather than trot out his 75% ass to get shelled?
Come on, man. BTW, nice choke job by the Celtics.
blisters are different. Fucking Hepes-hand Hill has been dealing with them for a year and a half no matter how much time he takes off.
Nolan Ryan used to soak his hand in pickle brine. I think that was to prevent them…
Moises Alou used to piss on his hands for some reason.
I think both those things are supposed to toughen the skin. Personally, I’d take the pickle brine.
Krukow on KNBR this morning talked about how tricky it is dealing with blisters. Just resting the hand isn’t good. The blistered area still needs to get regular pitching work to keep a callous above the blister to protect the area. He said generally a blister forms underneath a callous.
Sooooo, sucking is the answer?
He’s not sucking, he’s just not dominating. If we sat him and called up *whoever* they wouldn’t do any better and, likely, would be much worse.
Cool story about Roger Moore.
it’s classic. I can’t think of a single movie star that would do that today and then 23 years later keep the story going.
I bet there’s a few, but yeah, most come off like arrogant schmucks than anything else.
Chris Shaw promoted to Sacramento.
Wow. That’s great news.
That’s a good news, bad news kind of deal for me. The good news, someone coming up from AAA, on the bad news side, I was hoping to see him bat for Richmond when I’m there in July.
Moore – nibbler or BOSS. Fuck that, we have no time or need for nibblers. Nibblers are pussies. Just be the boss and get’er done!
A win today would be particularly sweet, as it would ensure a winning roadie, and set them up for taking the series with Smardge on the bump, tomorrow.
I saw just bits and pieces of the game last night. By the time I got home, it was 2-0 and basically the first thing I saw was the dinger that made it 4-0. Looking at the box, it appears that Cueto, outside of giving up three bombs, pitched decently: 6 IP, 98 pitches, 64 for strikes, with 8 Ks and only one BB.
So, I think physically, Cueto is OK. When guys give up these bombs during games that otherwise are well-pitched, is it just a brain-fart where they hang a pitch? That would seem to be the explanation for Cueto. Thoughts?
Cueto said it’s hard for him to finish pitches off, so there’s less movement. His velocity has been down this year. He could probably survive the mistake pitches better with more velocity and movement.
Speaking of nibblers, Broxton is brutal these days. Not a power pitcher anymore. He comes into the bottom of the 12th or whatever it was last night, and gets the first two Dodgers out, and then, for some reason, really starts nibbling to Kikee Hernandez, like he was pitching to Babe Ruth. Walks him. And then gives up a double in the right field corner to the next guy. Ball game. A really irritating ending to that game. I wonder if Daniel threw something at his TV set.
Classic Broxton – it was “kinda fun” 🙂
Span is back. Feel the excitement:
Span CF
Panik 2B
Belt 1B
Posey C
Crawford SS
Nunez LF
Arroyo 3B
Williamson RF
Moore LHP
I’m happy to see Span who at least is an established major leaguer.
How about a long overdue bomb from Mac tonight?
maybe. Wind is blowing in from left pretty good tonight
That’s the answer, my friend…
Moore-on does it again…
So Span can now play after he could barely lift a bat with his sprained thumb the last couple of days?Giants are so desperate in the OF their doing their usual due diligence with their medical staff and letting him play..
If he does badly, Bochy will say what a trooper he is, etc. The Giants’ cupboard for outfielders couldn’t be more bare.
They just posted on FB that Joe Montana’s dad pasted away, RIP Joe Sr..
Was he hanging wallpaper at the time?
A pasty chuckle,so I’ll just zip it
🤐
Kuip hasn’t shut up about the fuckin’ weather since the came on the air.
And once again: “Get ’em in, get ’em over”…
Mookie had it right, right?
Spam the Man!
no text from Diggity yet. My ph usually blows up when Spam hits a bomb
Yeah no problem with the thumb!
Span launched that one!
We are the kings of solo homers! 19 now..
Might as well break are past big league record of 21..
Big Mac broke that shit up…
Moore is such a dunce. He keeps throwing it right down the middle to one of the best hitters in the NL.
Moore-on does it again…
The vendor behind the plate is selling cups of Bud/Bud Light for $9.75.
Couldn’t make out the cup size…
I can’t stomach Affeldt…
he’s awful. And as Kuip made that unseemly “And it’s OUTTA here” call on the bat, Affeldt laughs out loud. Meanwhile, there is a crowd gathering where the bat landed to see if anyone had been killed.
Giants have to be able to score more than one and two runs per game. This is ridiculous…
This ump is definitely a good reason for a Robot!
Fuck Fuuuuking A
3-1 right down broadway Craw takes it..
3-2 to close to take but not as good as the 3-1 pitch, back to the mound, and this game is over ladies..
I liked Roger Moore not as Bond, but as the Saint. Definitely remember that show. Same time frame as the Avengers…
Avengers was bad ass, too!
Fleming called that right before it happened. He was talking about the AB vs. Miller at Yankee Stadium where he fouled off a ton of pitches and drove one off the wall, best AB of last year for him.
Swing the fucking bat!
Yes, but that pitch was definitely off the plate. That’s on the ump, too. Bullshit call, IMO.
How about the 3-1 pitch? Yesh, let’s walk and leave it to Nick Hundley.
What a FUCKING BULLSHIT CALL! Bring on the goddamn robots! 😡
You can’t hit when the umpire won’t let you!!
Battled back, try to get a split tomorrow..
But you can swing at the piped fastball on 3-1. I mean what are you looking for? Offspeed?
Romo hangs a frisbee, and Yadier hits a 2-run HR.
Romo has a 7.63 ERA now.
rooster getting up close and personal look I hope.
you know Yanks bloggers if you diss them just say “27” or whatev # of how many WS titles they have.
Romo at least has a couple he can always wave in his teammates faces.
Three! 🙂
3 in 5!
didn’t see any of it except for last couple batters but seems like pen guys Kontos and Gearrin gave up insurance runs that wound up being the difference, arrgghh.
Okert gave up the run in the 8th: leadoff triple, walk, sac fly.
Dodgers lost. It was cool.
Marrero, one of the 25 out of Spring Training, is now headed to Japan, less than 2 months later. Another indictment on the Front Office’s total faceplant with this outfield in the offseason…
Chris Shaw promoted from AA to the River Cats…
