Bad Pitching
I can’t believe the season has sunk so low that Matt Moore getting into the 7th inning and *only* allowing 3 ER’s is seen as a step in the right direction. Still, he walked 4. There is ZERO excuse for this guy to have a 5.74 ERA while pitching HALF HIS FREAKING GAMES at AT&T Park.
Everyone complains about how the park factors hurt the hitters but it cuts both ways and I don’t understand how our pitching has been so consistently bad this season. What would these chumps be doing if they had to pitch in Colorado? Or Arizona? Or Atlanta?
Ok, I’m out of town for a week so new thread uploading may be interrupted. But I’ll do my best to get one up every day. 🙂
Doghairs in last 43 games are 37-6.
That’s pretty good.
Once in the playoffs, their record means squat…
Yeah it’s all about getting hot down the stretch. I predict either the Cubs or Royals, two teams who had terrible starts, making it to the World Series.
Somewhere Booby is lamenting “but we scored 4 runs”.
Haven’t heard a whisper of any deals involving the Giants.
Maybe there’s a big surprise in store…
Yeah, for all his aw shucks demeanor, Booby definitely holds his cards close. Seems like we didn’t hear much about Nunez last year either until the deal was basically done.
To Booby Evans,,To bad you don’t have any cards to play!
“You’ve got to know when to hold them
Know when to fold them,
Know when to walk away,
Know when to run!
Any Flapper could call your hand and take the pot..
It’s a day game. Good to get it over with early, like a trip to the dentist.
Which lineup should win this one today?
1. Denard Span (L) CF
2. Miguel Gomez (S) 2B
3. Hunter Pence (R) RF
4. Buster Posey (R) C
5. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
6. Jae-Gyun Hwang (R) 1B
7. Gorkys Hernandez (R) LF
8. Kelby Tomlinson (R) 3B
9. Ty Blach (R) P
1. Chris Taylor (R) LF
2. Corey Seager (L) SS
3. Justin Turner (R) 3B
4. Cody Bellinger (L) 1B
5. Logan Forsythe (R) 2B
6. Yasiel Puig (R) RF
7. Yasmani Grandal (S) C
8. Joc Pederson (L) CF
9. Rich Hill (L) P
Giants shuffled rotation to have Bumgarner pitch tomorrow night. Dodgers 20-3 in last 23 games vs. LHSP.
If Kontos is not traded, and I think he would not, he needs to go on the DL. The guy has nothing. The switch to the 10-day DL was made for this type of thing. Pitcher needs a respite…
Yes I know regular season performance means zero when it comes to playoff time, but the craziest stat I’ve ever heard of is the streak of games the Dodgers have won if they take the lead at any time during the game. Any inning, doesn’t matter – if they take the lead they’ve won 50 in a row. The old record was 43 games 111 years ago set by the 1906 Cubs. It’s freaking mind-boggling. DiMaggio territory, to be sure.
Hundley not catching, has concussion like symptoms from foul ball last night. Donger to first. Posey behind plate. If Posey gets hurt, who catches? You have to bring up a catcher if Hundley has a concussion…
I think Gorky is the emergency catcher. Just another of the many things that make him so indispensable…
Giants latest dumpster dive:
Casey Kelly, career bust as starter, to Sac.
I guess they needed to replace Beede, and they didn’t want to bring up a AA guy.
If he shows up in SF, we’re at a new low…
Dodgers had a 42-8 stretch in 2013, didn’t matter in the playoffs.
Panda watch:
0 for 4 last night.
4 for 23 in seven games with SJ / Sac
Hey, he should fit right in to the SF lineup…
Hundley took a foul off his chin last night. I was wondering about that.
Pence now 3 for last 26.
OBP over last 7 games heading into today, at .185.
Why not DL him with coffee exhaustion, and bring anybody up from Sac with an outfielder’s glove?…
The main goal today is to not get no-hit.
Wow- serious Houdini act there.
The Dodgers have a lead.
The game is over.
The Donger is not awesome playing firstbase.
Yeah, the ball hit his glove. Made a bad dive, that was a doable play…
Rag-arm is generous for Span.
If there is a regular CFer with a worse arm in MLB, I’d like to see it…
This has the early look of a no hitter, to follow up on zumiee.
Just from Flemm: “Amazing that Span can’t beat that out”.
Shoot, I wonder why SF is having trouble trading Span…
Pence with the dinger on 3-2 curve; breaks up the early no-no !
OBP now spiking up towards .190. There goes my DL wish…
Pence goes yard. Well, the no-hitter won’t be happening today.
Every fuckin’ game on the bases . . .
Yeah, Craw picked off cost them the tying run on the Gorkys double+one base error.
This has to be one of the worst base running teams in baseball…
Giants 29th in OBP at .305. No wonder they can’t run the bases, they don’t get much work at it.
Hi all,
I wasn’t drunk posting! Read the post more clearly…
Last line..”The ONLY guy who has had a better year than his average year is Nunie.”
The only thing is I typed ave short for average, vs spelling it out. I also stated Posey has a “great average but is down in power” in the beginning of the post..
Lets fact check. I play fantasy. SADLY… Every regular and every starter has achieved lower than projected stats or dollar amount. Actually the only one close is Span. Every Starter is lower, and closer Melancin is lower.
The fact is unless you really value BA vs OPS etc every guy on our team is having a bad year. Everyone.
I’ll drink to that…
Giants crap lineup is hitting like what you’d expect — crap.
Offset by nice performance by Blach…
Posey’s arm is better than the commercial he does..
Just before, Miller on radio ripped Gearin a new one for totally ignoring the runner…
Thank you Hunter for being the SHITS!!
Back to form with the tailor made DP grounder, swings at the first pitch, too. After Gomez had actually made Jansen work…
Pence sets MLB record for fastest killing of a rally.
I guess for the Giants a man on first is a rally…
Where’s James so he can blame the Giants pitching for this 2-1 loss.
Actually, a good baseball game.
But, 3 hits is about what you’d expect from today’s horseshit Giants lineup.
Oh well, onto face the inevitable sweep tomorrow, even with Bum in the saddle…
Their idea of a rally now is who will be the guy to beat Pablo to the post game spread when he gets back?
Nobody is that fast.
Panda has great footwork and quickness around a spread.
Besides, they don’t want to get a concussion colliding with Panda near the cold cuts platter…
Pence hit an HR today, but, man, he hits a LOT of dribblers and weak grounders. It was getting bad last year, and now it’s worse.
The Donger was embarrassingly overmatched vs. Jansen.
I can’t even bear to think of next season with one more year of Pence and Span, and other players who seem in decline.
They’re going to have to do a big rebuild but they don’t want to start it yet. They’re hoping to be more competitive next year. How is that supposed to happen? They need to give that idea up and just start the rebuild. I’d keep Posey and Bum, and everyone else is available for whatever can be gotten for them.
Well I thought we would be killed so not a bad game…Donger had a pitch that was hitable for a gifted major leaguer…question is of the Donger is one or not….
Insightful comment by Orel on SNLA (Dodger network in SoCal).
“When a guy like Posey struggles he is working from a stable / traditional base in terms of baseball mechanics. A fix is often a simple tweak. When an unorthodox guy like a Pence struggles there is often no fix because no one knows where to start. Those players often decline quickly when they start to decline…”
Pence is 4 years older than Posey.
Let’s see where Posey and his stable base is in 4 years…
Seager and Bellinger.
They’re looking like a coming decade of new Russell and Garvey…
Yeah throw in the pesky little pip squeak Ron Cey the penguin 🐧 as well, dude always irritated me.
Seager is better than Russell overall. Way more pop, probably just as good glove, better arm…
For sure. I used to be critical of the LA front office. No longer. Amazing stat Dodgers extended their own MLB all-time record.
Today 51st consecutive game that if they have led at any point in a game they won it. That is insane. If they blow a lead at any point in the game they ALWAYS come back to win. Crazy. Hope their streak end just in time for October.
It’s just a fluky statistic.
Like our 3 World Championships…
I heard a stat on KNBR this morning I’ve wanted to know.
Giants Pen owns the worst inherited-runners-allowed-to-score rate in MLB.
38%…
And, in my opinion, it’s the #1 thing that sucks the life from this team.
The Dodger front office was overhauled a few years ago and has put together a formidable team on the field (obviously.)
They made some tough and questionable choices. Allowing Greinke to slip away and not trading for another ace to help them over the hump. Granted, a lot of teams were asking for Bellinger.
Their starting pitching for the playoffs has been the question the last few years. The Dodgers have nailed down how to succeed in the regular season.
I really don’t believe the wife ruined Pence, but the timing is uncanny…
To me, he’s never been totally right since the broken arm. Maybe the arm hurts him with chronic pain now. I don’t know how arm pain could lead to pulled hamstrings, but he’s such a whirling dervish, maybe there is a connection. His whole mechanics got out of whack.
Or he just got old. It happens.
Nunie hit an HR today. That’s alright. He gets a chance to be in the playoffs. I’m all for any of the 2017 Giants escaping while they can.
A few weeks back, I posted on here comparing Seager and Bellinger to Mantle and Maris—-and I don’t think that is far off. Those 2 are on track to be way better players than anybody on those 70’s Dodgers teams.
And its not like they are going to leave via free agency. We could be dealing with them for 10+ years.
They are so loaded. Anything they get from Pederson or Puig is gravy. What is Adrian Gonzales’ role on that team? Pinch hitter extraordinaire?
Thank Goodness they didn’t keep Greinke—else they’d already have a ring or two and would be even more of a favorite to win it all this year.
You couldn’t dream up a worse case scenario for me in terms of the fortunes of the Giants and Dodgers. Hell yeah, those 3 rings were awesome, but its gonna be a rough ride for the next 5 years at least.
“Winter is Coming.”
Nunie. 2 today. Fucking awesome.
Ah, you scooped me. 🙂
Nunie just hit his second HR of the game. Instant Red Sox hero.
If the Dodgers go 44-14 the rest of the way, they will break the regular season win record. Very possible, but still seems like quite a task. Plus, that kind of record isn’t all it’s cracked up to be if you want to rest players for the playoffs.
The Giants need 23 more wins to avoid losing 100.
Where was that with Giants?
I think there’s bad juju in the Giants clubhouse, and nobody will come clean with it.
Multiple sleepwalking games, consistent bad base running, Strick going off reservation, that supposed no-story story about Melancon, there’s bad juju smoke in this clubhouse. Nunie gets to a new team, immediately he’s the energizer bunny with power. Why would that be?…
Nunie just made a costly error. He’ll even out a bit.
If the Red Sox lose today, they’ll be 0-2 since they started playing him, which is kind of amusing.
He was doing well with the Giants too.
