A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Houston, Just Win The Damn Game

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 31, 2017

If it’s going to happen, it must happen today. And it must be Justin Verlander, in all his glory. This is why they got him. As a “10 day” Astro fan I feel like I’ve waited my whole life for this moment…..

And me thinks Roberts isn’t going to yank Hill after 60 pitches. Brandon Morrow might tackle him on the way to the mound if he tries anything.

Thirty years is an awful long time but 31 is longer.

Cheers to streaks continued…..

Yeah they either win tonight or have a monumental task tomorrow. We won our game 7 in the road in KC but we’ll see.

I think Verlander shuts them down. 2-0 CGSO.

Interesting ESPN article where Hinch was asked about his outstanding (not) bullpen:

Asked about the state of his bullpen heading into Game 6, Astros manager A.J. Hinch responded, “Well, we have two innings of bullpen left,” before correcting himself and saying, “I’m sorry, two games’ worth of bullpen left, and our guys will be ready.

Of course, that first answer might be the more accurate one. In 19 innings in this World Series, the Houston bullpen has allowed 16 hits, 16 runs and five home runs. For the entire postseason, it has a 5.94 ERA with 13 home runs surrendered in 53 innings, and that includes a couple of stellar outings from guys who spent most of the season in the rotation.”

This series makes me appreciate even more the Core Four in their heyday…

Same article had this line . . . Giles was a top-five closer in the regular season, but after allowing runs in six of his seven postseason appearances, he appears to be buried so deep right now that he’s not even in the doghouse, but sleeping out behind the fence with the feral cats.

If Kate was in town last night with Verlander, that’s not good for tonight…

I don’t have a problem with it. As Pence said, it was a chance to help a family have some closure after a death.

    • alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on October 31, 2017 at 11:55 am

I don’t have a problem with that either.
If anything it makes me hate the Dodgers even more for not doing something positive for the family..It takes a True Giant to come thru in that situation..

No shot. The guy dies IN THE BALLPARK. ANd they deny his family?

I just have a funny feeling Verlander is going to get shelled. He’s not in his prime and the Dodger bats have awakened. And I totally agree that if the Astro’s don’t get it done tonight, they will be toast tomorrow—like we were in Game 7 in 2002. That’s why I think saving Verlander for tomorrow would have been worth considering.

As for Giles, I wouldn’t be surprised if seeing every other pitcher that takes the mound get blasted–including one of the all-time greats—actually helps him get his mojo back a bit and maybe he can get a few outs before this thing is said and done.

  5. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on October 31, 2017 at 10:44 am

Dodger stadium is usually pretty hard to hit bombs out of at night so I think Verlander will be fine. Hill? If anyone is due a shit outing, it’s Mister Blisters.

  6. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on October 31, 2017 at 10:44 am

I don’t see Verlander getting hammered tonight ,he’s been Nails since joining the Stros.
It’s not like he has to face Panda tonight.
4-1 Astros Verlander gives them 7 plus innings..

This morning on KNBR, Kruk was giving excuses for Kershaw bad outing, he even went so far as to compare him to Cain! Unbelievable

Here’s hoping Verlander has the game of his life.

    • zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on October 31, 2017 at 4:27 pm

His playoff legacy is on the line, too.

Reddick is such an automatic out in the Astros lineup.

So, if the Stros win it, is Springer MVP?

    • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on October 31, 2017 at 6:11 pm

depends. If Verlander goes the distance here and they win I’d give it to him.

Nice slider to Turner for strike 3.

  16. zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on October 31, 2017 at 6:34 pm

Verlander’s pitchcount is OK so far. 4 innings/58 pitches.

  17. Macdog's avatar Macdog said, on October 31, 2017 at 6:40 pm

Why does Reddick even bother using a bat?

    • zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on October 31, 2017 at 6:41 pm

Reddick should be a platoon at best.

      • zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on October 31, 2017 at 6:42 pm

It was predictable he can’t hit Hill.

      • zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on October 31, 2017 at 6:46 pm

Reddick looks done as a hitter. There’s no lower body in his swing. He’s just a Rowand trying to make contact at the end of his career.

  18. wilcojoe's avatar wilcojoe said, on October 31, 2017 at 6:45 pm

Reddick had a fantastic regular season and hit lefties extremely well. He just completely lost it this possession. His defense is still as good as any in the game.

    • zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on October 31, 2017 at 6:49 pm

Ah, I didn’t remember his regular season. Is there no decent option off the bench?

      • wilcojoe's avatar wilcojoe said, on October 31, 2017 at 6:53 pm

Yeah, they have Cameron Maybin a righty who I would have preferred seeing tonight. I guess Hinch thinks he will breakout any moment. I don’t see it happening.

    • xoot's avatar xoot said, on October 31, 2017 at 6:50 pm

Reddick was one of the a’s best players for his time in Oakland, although his defensive heroics did ding him up sometimes.

As a 20 year old rookie, Bumgarner pitched 8 shut-out innings in his first World Series start.
None of the stiffs in this Series can do that.

ph for Verlander made no sense esp with a runner on first. He could have bunted him into scoring position. That would have been better than what Gattis did. And now we are into the bullpen. Fucking dumb move.

Buck and Smoltz going on and on about Koufax’s heroics but they wouldn’t mention that he destroyed his arm in the process. He was out of baseball at about the same age as Cain and Lincecum.

The peeing on the football, the hide and seek, the football swing and miss,Now the Ol getting in back in the day coaches like Lombardi should of cut that player but now it’s all about trying to keep the ratings strong even it a blowout..
