Losing in San Diego
Any loss is disappointing but there were encouraging signs. Both Longo and McCutchen homered. I am not worried about Longo being unproductive this year. It takes time to adjust to a new league. His contract sucks and the Giants will be eating a lot of the back end of that deal but he will be productive this year.
A win would be nice today although not expected. Beede (who sucks) will have his hands full facing off against one of the Padres better pitching prospects. Will Belt continue to sit vs these lefties? The Giants are near last in the league in walks this year, they aren’t going to improve on that number with Belt sitting out…..

William Nack died on Friday. A brilliant writer, he captured the essence and beauty of horse racing and what it meant to be a fan of the sport. RIP.
“The gift of reverie is a blessing divine, and it is conferred most abundantly on those who lie in hammocks or drive alone in cars. Or lean on hillside fences in Kentucky. The mind swims, binding itself to whatever flotsam comes along, to old driftwood faces and voices of the past, to places and scenes once visited, to things not seen or done but only dreamed.”
this guy is awesome
It’s time to rid ourselves of Pence and bring Mac Williamson up from AAA. I am tired of watching Pence waving helplessly at pitches out of the strike zone. Trading him for a player to be named later works for me.
We all want Williamson up he’s knocking the cover off the ball. But theirs 18 mil reasons this organization and especially the investors are not gonna part ways with Pence (sadly) and theirs not a team in baseball that will take him unless the Giants pay all of his contract.
So you can hope for a Pence injury for a Williamson callup are a Blanco,Gorky,Jackson demotion which is unlikely also..meh
Giants next 2 opponents, on road, are couple of baseball’s hottest teams. DBax are 11-3 after stomping LA again last night and Angels are13-3 and have won 7 in a row.
38 bombs hit last night, including 7 in Seattle btw. M’s and A’s, despite 2 rainouts. AZ hit 4 last night, so I don’t think dodgers would tell you humidor making much difference.
oops that game was in LA. See if Giants hitters feel any difference hitting in AZ, a place that used to be friendly.
Sucks Bochy had to use so many pitchers out of pen last night with Beede going today. Unless he can be more accurate and use fewer pitches Giants will need as many guys ready as possible out there.
Maybe Mrs Beede makes this game now for whatever inspiration he can get. She’s in Arizona doing some dumb western lathering up some cowboy’s face like Jennifer Montana use to do🤠
Beede is now beyond the Kruk “amped up” excuse for first MLB start, which was OK, but wild.
Today, the hype needs to show something, some control, some command.
Giants really need this one, they are headed into a buzzsaw with the Dbacks and Angels back to back.
The way they are hitting, they’ll be fortunate to win one game at each venue…
I probably shouldn’t say Beede sucks. He’s obviously got talent.
Here is Nack’s obituary of Secretariat.
Great writing. Have a coffee while you read it. Long, but worth it.
I can’t claim to be a fan of horse racing, but I used to read Nack when he was with SI. I had a subscription for about 30 years. I devoured that magazine every week, cover to cover. He and other great writers stuffed it with crystal content when SI was the place to go to read about sports. They were great writers, not just great sports writers. Rick Reilly (before he turned into a shadow of himself trying to convert to TV), Ron Fimrite, Dan Jenkins, Curry Kirkpatick, Rick Telander, Paul Zimmerman, and others, including Frank Deford, the greatest sportswriter of modern times.
I remember watching live on TV, probably ABC with Jim McKay, that Belmont that Nack describes. Secretariat was a phenomenon then. Those were the days of 3 TV networks, no cell phones, no internet. The horse was all over the media for months, a demigod. Nack captures it. I do remember that even without a whit of knowledge of horse racing, I realized as Secretariat came down the stretch winning by seemingly a mile, that something transcendent was happening.
Halfway through this article you’ll see that great track level photo of Secretariat steaming down the stretch at the Derby, with Turcotte up, but mostly hidden by the great horse’s head. The crowd is in unfocused, background color adding their lay witness testimony to the holy event. The photo is by Neil Leifer, hands down the greatest ever sports photographer. Perfectly framed, the legendary horse is alone in his magnificence, with all fours above ground. He’s flying …

6 games cancelled today. Woh!
At a minor league game. They didn’t open the gates until an hour before game-time. Lots of restless kids and cranky parents in line.
Looks to be a big crowd for the ballpark.
Who the hell scouted Beede in college? None of this wildness was apparent then? Lack of command might be the single biggest red flag when it come to pitchers. The just don’t succeed inMLB.
They thought they could fix it, I guess.
Longo starting to hit a little bit. Going the other way is a good sign.
Longo looking more like real hitter.
The usual can’t get the job done by Pence!
“When he gets hot he can carry a club for a month.” ROFL
too bad that club was 2015 Giants.
Belt carried the club for a month in 2015?
nah you’re right. He was better 2016. I think Pence was good that year with 27 bombs that got him the $$$.
btw thx for that pic of young Lincecum.
Absolutely. That was a fun night. The lad had ridiculous stuff.
Is that from Mr.Homer Krukow?
He really is getting delusional..
Pence striking out again. Over 1/3 of his ABs…
Wow Belt got that just deep enough
Nice AB by Belt, great hustle by Hot Rod Hundley.
Stripes:
Where your Drill Sergeant men?
Bill Murray..Blown up sir!!
That changeup is filthy. Looks like a split.
Pence so far is just about clueless at the plate.
Not sure how long that can continue without making some kind of move.
He has to get it together…
Kruk..Ithink Beede’s more comfortable in the stretch.. Well doesn’t that mean he has nothing but runners on base? Not a way to succeed..
Both Mrs. Beede’s are kind of hot.
Williamson must’ve had another big game last night. Tearing it up.
Beede — so far, he’s getting it together, w good change…
Galvis kills us. And starts the rally that gives them the lead.
A walk and 2 ropes later Beede trails..
well, unfortunately this is lot like last one. It took him 75 pitches to get 12 outs/4 innings.
He’s at 54 with 2 outs in the 3rd, 8 outs. Pen game again.
Godley is pitching lousy against the Dodgers. 4 walks already. Gift runs.
Godley, 6 walks now. Total choke-job. Came up small today vs. Kershaw. Similar to what happened when the D-Backs played the Dodgers in the playoffs last year.
Changing my opinion back to him sucking. Beede (sucks).
Beede is reminding me of Ryan Jensen but atleast Jensen won 13 games one year.Beede doesn’t have enough Beede’s in the gun to finish this inning,as Boch mercifully had to go get him..
This team really isn’t very impressive. At all.
Osich has to go.
After this game.
Period…
Beede was obviously laboring. IDK why Bochy did not put Maronta in, he was ready. Instead he left Beede in to give up another run. Day off tomorrow, so WTF?…
Once again, Rotundo Reyes Moronta’s moment on the mound is the high point of the game for Giants fans. It’s not going to be easy to finish April at .500.
I switched over to look at the LAA v KC game last night and thought something was wrong with the video. But no. That was actual snow swirling around in the air. Mike Trout wore a hood that snugly covered his head and neck but, with a a circular cutout, left his eyes and nose and mouth bare. Yes. He looked like a fish.
Pads stealing bases up 6-1? Uh huh. Interesting…
Might as well Oshit can’t hold anyone on and once their there he will give up the hit like he did for a easy score…
It’s hard to comment on today’s game without sounding like a troll.
I’m tired of Oshit. Don’t need to watch his bullshit anymore
Bochy wanted Osich to prove to him that he needs to go down to Sac.
Consider it proven…
seriously, why is SD still stealing bases? lol
Because they can off of dumbass Giant pitchers.
The Giants apparently haven’t heard of the unwritten rules that call for a fastball in the ass for that…
Think Boch should plant his hardest boot 👢 up Oshit’s ass before he ships him out for Williamson.
Pence, man
The dude is a K machine…
Giants now likely staring at a 3-7 roadie…
Cutch down to .203 at the moment.
and Longoria UP to almost exactly the same
Good stuff on Nack by Flav and snarkk, I gotta check out that Secretariat article, a much better way to spend the time than watching the Giants lay another turd at Petco.
Snarkk, you might like this article I saw a couple days ago about how far SI has fallen from its glory days:
https://www.theringer.com/2018/4/11/17220176/sports-illustrated-future-meredith-sale-history.
Good article.
I had no friggin clue SI had gone last year to twice a month publication.
Sad. Probably not long before it sinks under the waves…
Pads came into this series having had their butts kicked essentially since opening day.
Then, got healthy on the Giants.
If SF keeps up like this for the rest of the month, they could be 10 games out or more to the Dbacks by May 1…
Nuts and Rawhide are all tied up, 1-1 in the 7th in a riveting battle.*
*Well, sort of riveting.
And MadBum turns over the clubhouse spread with his good hand.
The Dodgers will still end the day in last place. There’s that.
Wow, Law is just awful.
This one is an absolute stinker, an embarrassment…
Lincecum to the 60 day DL.
Have we started the Mac Williamson countdown??? At this point, give him the starting job and give him to the All-Star break to prove if his new swing is MLB caliber…we are going nowhere fast with the current lineup…Pence on the DL with “bone spurs.”
It worked for Drumpf…
Why don’t you assassinate him if he bothers you so fuckin’ much?
He’s doing a great job of getting rid of himself…
Insert name of Giant ___________ to phantom DL and bring Williamson up.
Pads have outhustled us, played harder. Embarrassing series for the Giants
The Giants are moving as fast as they can.

Nuts and Rawhide still tied, in the 8th.
Oh, a chance to have the designated runner in extra innings!
I hope I’m right about Sabes not putting up with this BS for very long.
If it continues, it doesn’t matter what pitchers come back.
Sellouts aren’t going to watch this kind of ball for a 3rd straight season. I’m not sure I will either…
Wow, pounded out of town on get-away day. Bochy’s ongoing bromances with Law and Osich continues to baffle. Not much to say. I’m rapidly losing interest.
And the Giants pen has done that in 2018.
Unfortunately the kicker is Bochy has said: no reason to bring Williamson up,he’s played a handful of games just like the big squad and he wants him to get his AB’s everyday since he’s happy with both Blanco&Gorkys production.
Another dumb reason why this team suffers scoring runs..
This is how we lose interest. This is how the team loses fans. Butts leave seats. Trot out the same shit that isn’t working and hope Pence gets hot in June for the push to 4th place. Fuck it. If this goes on for another 2 weeks, we’ll be hopelessly out of it. THe problem isn’t the pitching. It should get better. Hitting one out of 4 games isn’t going to cut it.
Nuts and Rawhide go to the 12th inning. Both teams’ designated runners scored in the 11th.
Score is 2-2.
Rawhide score a run in the top of the 12th and the Nuts score two in the bottom of the inning to win the walk-off.
I ate a ballpark hamburger. It was pretty good.
Nice…
We don’t score
We lose interest!
well, yesterday SF had the lead despite Holland not being very good until Gearrin gave it away and NY took away Panik’s run.
Today Beede was awful. How many times did he have hitters down 0-2 and either walked them or gave up a hit? He’s clueless, and when he did come in the Pads raked him.
So yeah to me the pitching sucked.
Cueto back Tuesday. They gonna need him to get back in W column.
But Flav’s right, Pads looked good. Ugh
Everyone knew April would be tough, especially with the injuries to the pitchers. The pitching staff may well sort itself out once the injured have returned and the lousy performers can be sent down or reassigned (starting with any reliever whose last name begins with O). But scoring 0 or 1 run in more than half your games played obviously isn’t going to cut it, nor likely will this offense *sort itself out* without some changes. Williamson up and Pence to the Bench would be a bitter pill for management to swallow, can they do it? Remarkably, the Giants actually won some of those games scoring only 1 run, or the W-L tally would be looking pretty dismal.
Astros get a walk, first baserunner off Colon.
Reddick breaks up the no-hitter.
we all know some fluky pitchers throw no nos and otherwise are pretty ordinary, but Bartolo Colon almost ho hitting World Champ Stros unreal. Gad he made Altuve look silly couple times.
Nice job to pay tribute to Nack who I knew casually for years. No energy to type about him, but he was something else…
Mr. Nack and I became friends when we agreed that Military Plume was the best horse in the ’62 Travers that is only remembered for the incredible Jaipur-Ridan duel. We had to be separated when I told him the great Canadian filly La Prevoyante deserved HOTY over Secretariat in ’72…
Nack was both revered and mocked behind his back by his peers. He was a bit of an egomaniac, but I think a lot of it was jealousy. Secretariat people can get on your nerves. They all act like they owned him…
Right on pace for 64-98 again…
So 15 games in and we’re reduced to hoping a proven piece of shit like Williamson is going to save the season?
I doubt he’ll save the season.
At least he’ll look different than Pence when he strikes out…
