Arms Race
Man, if you like pitching MLB has the slate for you. Kluber, deGrom, Strasburg, Severino, Keuchel…and Manaea coming off his no hitter.
We get Ryu vs Holland and that’s fine with me.
Haven’t heard anything about Mac’s neck but I’m assuming this is something that is going to linger and screw with him….
Just try to get 2 and be done with LA for a while…..
Loo, did you ever discover what was under the tape?
Parker basically ended his major league career by running into a wall last year. These guys need to be wise in how they play the outfield, especially at AT&T.
Also because Parker (who sucks) can’t hit MLB pitching.
Mac the Oaf needs special instruction and training for every phase of the game, apparently.
I hope the nickname “Mac the Oaf” sticks.
It’s got a song and everything. Really like it…
And someone’s crumpled – in our bullpen,
Could that someone be Mac the Oaf?
You nailed it
idk, might be good time to catch LA. They aren’t hitting much, 11th NL in runs and HRs, 8th across board for OB Slg and OPS quite unlike last year.
Seager has 1 bomb in 100 ABs, one more than Puig who is hitting .195 with an OPS of .499.
Taylor is batting .228 with .269 OB at leadoff and Pederson is hitting .217.
Still, their pitching is tough. Dunno how they lost 2 of 3 to Marlins; that’s embarrassing and could fire some payback. Don’t forget !@%& Pads come in right behind them. Pads are 3-1 vs. SF and 6-16 vs. everyone else.
I wondered how long Mac could play without injury. Not long. The dude has been an injury machine over his career. Hopefully this is minor and does not F up his power trend. Last year he got hurt and disappeared the rest of the season…
Agree that Williamson hasn’t stayed healthy but I haven’t seen anything beyond this latest issue being a stiff neck. Gotta hope he’s in the LU tonight because the alternatives aren’t going to provide much. Dude better hurry up and get back and keep hitting bombs or Bochy will break out the Pence love as soon as he can.
Sure don’t need the Pence bromance but with Boch it’s coming again yikes..
Yes, Yes, YES!
No no NO!!
Going to the game tonight. My son bought these for my B’day. Gotta get my 2 Flapps down hat!!
Very cool! I dig the giveaway items, especially hats and caps.
Big Flavor has very generously given me custody of the most notorious Splash/Flap artifact:
The Scott McClain bat originally given to him by Twin.
It feels like an honor to possess it as well as a moral obligation to see that someday it gets passed on to someone worthy. This is what Flavor is talking about in the main thread. The handle is heavily duct taped and I want to get some real bat tape and fix it up nice. I don’t know how badly cracked it is under there yet.
i like that you’re going to fix it with real bat type. I half assed my way through ownership on it. Twin would be happy to know someone is finally giving it proper attention. 🙂
Man, I’d give anything to be able to find that thread from the splash where I got in a huge fight with Twin and threatened to shove the bat up his ass. Not sure he ever got over that one.
I’m gonna make it look real good and hopefully usable (on someone’s skull). If you google “bat tape grip” you’ll be reminded of the potato chip aisle, but I like all the color choices that will look great on a black bat…
gotta go orange
I think I remember that fight. That’s the late night he warned you not to come after him with the bat because he lived at the protected end of a country lane and he had a gun. iirc. the splash was very entertaining in those days.
Ha ha! Shit I looked at some old stuff on my blog and Jesus, I forgot what a huge sactimonious asshoile he could be. This was was back in 2011 when everyone had to kneel at the greatness of Alex Smith.
Yeah I gave Twin a hard time about rather having picked Aaron Rogers over Sir Alex he went ballistic calling me the usual dickwad with no knowledge of any sports at all..
The Fresh Prince is on target for a Summertime return. Suarez with 1 ER & 9K over 7IP, Slater with a bomb yesterday and hitting .358 in Sac, Duggar’s average quietly creeping up. No room for a nonperforming Pence.
I’m not expecting anything great from the recuperated Fresh Wince…
Shea tweeted yesterday: Reliever Will Smith needed seven pitches in a 1-2-3 eighth inning tonight in Sacramento. He has looked good in back-to-back games and is targeting a Tuesday return to Giants’ bullpen.
Mac can show him where it is…
Lqtm
Osich will be heading back to Sac…
When Slater played last season, he proved a serviceable MLB outfielder with a bit of pop. I’ll take him anytime over Pence. Both he and Duggar are heating up at the plate, so I see no reason heading into month 2 of the season to bing Pence’s thumb back over either one of these guys. I’d sub both in for blanco and Gorkys…
Is Parker still out of baseball?…
I think so. I checked online about a week ago. I hope someone throws him a bone as I kind of like that knucklehead. He should just report to SacTown. It would only be a matter of time before he’d get another shot with the Giants as bare as our OF cupboard is.
Down here in Phoenix, the local sports radio (which is way worse than KNBR, btw) is basically laughing at how the Cards gave up little to the Raiders to swap first round picks so the Cards could pick up a possible franchise QB in Rosen. Current 3rd and 5th round picks. Is Raider nation down with how much they gained in return?…
the Raiders are being universally panned for how they got hoodwinked on that deal. I don’t really know any Raider fans but the one who can read should probably be pretty pissed off right now or at least before the 12 pack they’re gonna drink tonight kicks in
No Mac tonight.
1. Joe Panik (L) 2B
2. Andrew McCutchen (R) RF
3. Buster Posey (R) C
4. Evan Longoria (R) 3B
5. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
6. Austin Jackson (R) CF
7. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
8. Gorkys Hernandez (R) LF
9. Derek Holland (S) P
6-9 = phtttttt….
I don’t remember much about the bat-up-ass threat other than I was pretty hammered when I wrote it and Twin was taken aback that I would threaten such a thing, especially considering it was a gift from him. Of course, he was right about all of that, I was way out of line that night
Love him or hate him…I miss Twin. RIP…
ESPN’S draft coverage is a total cringe-fest…
Keuchel had retired 13 straight A’s til M Chapman hit a rocket out the yard. Fosse and Kuiper (the other one) arguing over whether Keuchel gets Darvish type deal.
You kind of just have to shake your head that it took Williamson less than a week to slam into a wall and get injured.
meanwhile guys like Austin Jackson saunter around without incurring even a scratch…
Shit, look at Byrnsie. His whole deal was throwing himself into walls and railings and shit. Rowand, Parker, mac under the knife. Maybe it’s a white thing.
Wonder how ticket sales are for this series…
Friend who I went to opening day with had purchased tix for the original game tonight, club level for a very good price. When they announced the DH, he scored tix for that game at a good price, too.
Why isn’t that little boy Joc in tonight’s lineup?
because he’s left handed Pa. And we are throwing a left hander tonight. Joc can barely hit right handers.
Two criticisms.
1) The game should be in the street (gutter to us) or the schoolyard.
2) The laundry hanging is extremely exaggerated in height and quantity.
lol @ number 2
3) No TV antennas on the roof.
#4 how could all the laundry be nothing but white towels
ABP
nice to see that one is catching on
uh oh, Ohtani just hit a bomb. Better for fire up the Ohtani tracker and see where this bad boy is headed!
Long-gone!
Longo going Longo…
Longo continues to impress.
I feel back to back HRs coming…
More like a 7-10 split…
WTF is he looking at?
About time!!!
Bout time Craw hit a fucking bomb…
Couldn’t have been any fatter.
Charlie – what you think about the draft so far.
I was just a little early. My girlfriend knows all about it.
Two big flies!
Road uniforms should always have the name of the city…
Chuck, I like the fact we got a tackle since T Brown didn’t fit the zone blocking scheme Shanny runs. Which is why we got that RB from Minnesota, McKinnon. He’s a fast outside runner that can catch passes in the flat, and Brown doesn’t cut it as a mobile tackle who can get downfield, I get what they are doing but I don’t know any of these 3rd round guys. The one thing is, they are fast. We are getting a lot quicker as a team. And another WR. Sure, I’m behind that, as long as it isn’t a 1st round bust a la AJ Jenkins.
Yeah, I get all of that and agree, but I really wanted Roquan. I think he has potential to be a “Willis-type” bad ass and leader. But i’m good with their direction. Team is actually starting to show some positive direction with little to no bullshit from Jed and family. I’m optimistic about this year.
And protection for Jimmy G is important.
I’m about ready to DFA McCutchen…
The Amy G of the Dodgers (didn’t catch her name) on the upcoming schedule:
“2 more games here – 3 if you count the doubleheader”
Doesn’t take long for that walk to hurt.
I can’t believe that nobody on here but me is calling out the Giants brass for this Williamson injury. Usually, many of you pounce on any opportunity to call out Bear and company for putting profits over the product on the feld. Mac didn’t get hurt because he is a clumsy oaf, he got hurt because of our bullshit “jewel” of a ballpark. Even the shill Krukow admits he could have easily broken his neck. Is that what it’s gonna take to get them to shitcan the beer garden and put in a MLB caliber bullpen?
With a bit of good planning, I think there is room for a similar bar right behind the current garden. Although I would miss sitting along the baselines and watching the BP warm up (or starter before the game), but from a practical standpoint, they maybe should be moved off the field.
I thought he hurt his ankle when it happened. The answer to your last question is yes.
Just like the kids in the outfield at the HR Derby. When Stanton kills one, that’ll be the end of it…
bullpen phone – ringing
You can see why Holland hasn’t had a ton of success in his career. All over the zone, pitching behind in the count, not finishing guys off in 2-strike counts.
Fucking Holland is imploding. This has all the makings of a huge inning.
Holland just isn’t fucking getting it for me. I know, 5th starter and all that, but come on…
Holland flinches on almost every batted ball like he thinks it’s gonna hit him.
I think he’s afraid to throw strikes…
The funny thing is, the architects that designed the stadium forgot about the bullpens so they didn’t design anywhere for them. It was an afterthought. That’s the story I heard anyway. A guy i used to work with was an electrician on the stadium project back in ’99.
Oh fuck this. He woulda scored. On the hundreds of thousands of times this has happened. Don’t act like this is something new.
That jackass who interfered with the live ball should be shown the way to Willie Mays Plaza.
He saved a run. I’m buying him a beer.
For now.
I hate that shit. You know damn well when you sit down there you’re not supposed to interfere with balls in play. Guy’s an idiot.
I thought it was an acreage issue.
That the park footprint was restricted by the acreage, so they had to put the mound on the field. I agree with Sandog, it’s stupid. Get them the hell off the field of play, whatever it takes.
Put the pens on a raft in the cove
Nice that Bochy decided, finally, that it’s time to get Holland out. Perfect timing.
Maybe fat Ryu tired himself out…
Enough of Holland. Looks like Suarez is going to pitch Tuesday vs. the Pads, if he does well enough, he should stay as the fifth starter.
Agree, Mac. Holland if killing me..Small sample on Suarez, but I like what i’ve Seen, so far.
Yeah, although I guess Holland will have to pitch the Wednesday game vs. Pads.
Puig homerless in 91 PA this season…
Jackson is a complete piece of garbage…
Austin powerless.
lqtm…
Good conference, translator must’ve said Slater can’t hit a big league curve
Gearrin in…could be a long night. sucks that Holland couldn’t go very long the day before they have to play 2.
Wow. Didn’t think they’d drive me back the the draft.
Oh fuck. It’s over.
On a positive note, I’m glad Gearrin did away with the pony tail/bun thing he had going the other day…..
Fun fact (sorta)
In his last 2 ML seasons, Moises Alou batted .341 & .347.
I wonder if that’s some kind of record, even if the last season was only 49 AB.
I don’t even remember him being on the team he did it with…
That fact is totally fun Loo. Keep ’em coming.
Just looked at his stats. Didn’t remember that last team either—or that he hit over .300 both years for us. Or that he was a lifetime .300 hitter.
I’m not nearly as sensitive to player body language as some people on here (Looking at you Flav), but Moises looked to me like he didn’t much give a crap when played for the Giants and that used to bug me.
Wasn’t he on the Mets after the Giants?
I think so…think that is where he finished his career. He always hit commando…no gloves.
Ty Cobb hit .357 and .323 his last two seasons, in a lot more than 49 ABs the last season.
He also had a pretty swank home on the banks of Lake Tahoe ala Michael Corleone.
You’re gonna pull Ty Cobb out on me for this?
Tony Gwynn also hit in the .320s his last two seasons, ha ha.
For once the ball park helps us. Does it just seem like it’s always the other way around?
Bunt-ed!
A disgrace to Jim Ray Hart’s #16 – and nice base running, dumb ass…
OK see there’s my argument. that goes to right side, Belt’s at 3b. Wasn’t a good decision by him, but Jackson’s job is hit the ball other way ground or air.
Loo is right tho, Belt is too slow to do that. He should have froze and held.
Who doesn’t love Specs?
2 nice hits for Gorks tonite.
Cingrani and Baez were the ones that heimliched the first game LA lost to Marlins. And there it goes! Specs ties it up.
So how does Roberts feel? Game tying rbis when your reliever can’t get out Gorks and Specs.
Gorks & Specs!
Ya clumsy cocksucker!
Wow
yeah perfect! :Panik drives SF deep enough in air to get Craw in.
Watson to Strick.
dang/ Posey let 2 hanging changes go by and swung at that one.
Jazz trying to hang on up 3 with 20 seconds left. Love listening to Hubie Brown.
Do the Giants ever get Farmer out?
YES! Jazz hold on wild finish non call.
I saw the New Orleans Jazz play Warriors, with Pistol Pete Truck robinson as a rookie and Stanford big man Rich Kelley.
I did too! With my dad and brother in Oakland. I think maybe even James Hardy from USF was with them at that time as well.
maybe one year later than game I saw but yeah Hardy did play for them. Truck got 20 and lit up R Barry Jazz won night I went. Joe C. Meriweather too.
Sounds right. I think Barry might have No longer been a Warrior at my game. Rich Kelley was there for sure. I remember my brother talking about him being a Stanford guy.
You think Rich Kelley has been to the goose? I’m gonna say yes, many times.
Donovan Mitchell is scary good.
I watched him play a pretty good amount in college and in no way did I see this kind of success in the NBA happening for him.
Happy to hear the infamous Scott McClain bat is still alive and well and now in Loo’s worthy hands. That was a brutal but wonderfully entertaining event, way back then. One of my favorite books is Accordion Crimes, by Annie Proulx, a neat story with historical relevance as it spans 100 years and traces the life and eventual demise of an old hand-crafted accordion as it passes from person to person and hence from life event to life event. Every Flapper that holds that bat has his own stories, to be sure….
This AB seems long as hell. Kind of adds perspective to Belt’s 21 gun salute…
So’s this fuckin’ game…
