More Than Surviving April
Cueto is incredible. He throws 40 pitches in the first two innings but still niggles out the win. And his ERA is still well below 1.
Fun fact I read from Baggs this morning: Panda is one of two major leaguers to ever hit 3 world series home runs AND throw a pitch in a game. The other: Babe Ruth.
This DJ Snelton fella has got a lot going on. Looks like he’s injuring himself multiple times per pitch.
Panik gone for 6 weeks. We can survive that. It’s a nice opportunity for Specs or even this Hanson kid.
For everyone panicking about the *brutal* schedule to start the year: We are guaranteed of at least splitting vs LA. Win tonight and we go 6-4. Hovering around .500, we are in great shape as we await Bum’s return.
Here’s a pic of San Dawg continuing his attempt to circle the globe and meet every living Flapper. He met up with Mr SportsDude last night. I think Rooster said he wanted to go to but he’s disappeared lately. Could be that 4-5 April record that’s discouraging him. Either that or another long ass dinner keeping him away…..

And no mention on the Flap of the incredible, incredible Sharks victory!!
Dubs going all the way…couldnt Longoria play a little 2nd when we need an extra lefty bat in the lineup and play Panda at 3rd???
I am looking forward to seeing Snelten pitch live….
hockey talk is strictly “room B” shit, at least for me. I’m rooting for Vegas or whoever they’re playing, I forget
The April schedule was definitely a concern. To be near .500 is a strong accomplishment. We are 6 1/2 games behind the D-Backs; but, yeah, to be ahead of the Dodgers at the moment is a very pleasant surprise. Kershaw at 1-4 and Wood at 0-3; who saw that coming? No one on the planet.
We are only a few games behind a Wild Card spot, which is probably the more realistic goal.
Nice photo of the two Flappers!
At or near .500 is fine to close a brutal first month. For the last year and a half the team seemed to have forgotten how to win. How many times last year would they have just layed down with no fight in games like the last three? Now they seem to have found their footing and the club is fun to watch. Start the Gomez watch for second base.
Where’s the pickled eggs in that pic?!?
At that point, they had yet to be purchased! But there definitely were pickled eggs involved in the festivities last night.
Fake news.😏
Don’t underestimate Sandoval’s contribution to the morale of the team.
Nice picture of 2 fine Flaps…
Totally agree. He turned the end of that game into a good kind of laugher
The Hanson guy (who I never heard of) is from the DR and was lighting up PCL. Anyone remember him from ST?
Turns out Panik got injured trying to tag out Puig on pickoff attempt Friday. Anyone see that play? Supposedly Puig went back in standing up.
NOT gonna bash medicos/mgmt. over what happened with Williamson. If he says he is fine, and he was fine enough to hit a bomb later, how do you tell the guy he has to sit? Should they have taken him out immediately?
This isn’t Steve Young running onto field without his helmet. One day he feels fine and takes BP, next day he’s light headed. Do you really think it’s team responsibility to automatically sit him for a week after potential (key word) injury?
I don’t remember Hanson. I do remember Rutledge was in competition for an infield spot during spring training, and wondered about him. He’s been the opposite of Hanson at Sac, hitting .059 (1-17), and his current status is “Disabled 7-Day.”
yes, they should have pulled him from the game. He smashed his head into a wall without a helmet on. You don’t think that’s a risky thing to do to your brain? Come on, this isn’t 1978, we know a lot more about head injuries. We saw what he did. The prudent and right thing to do was to take him out not leave him in and be surprised and shocked that symptoms showed up later. This didn’t happen in a vacuum. The Giants have had this happen over and over to guys and keep being surprised that they show symptoms later on. It’s beyond idiotic and they need to become more professional as an organization when it comes to head injuries…..
Giants only a game-and-a-half out of second. It’d sure be nice if the Snakes started to lose a few. Robbie Ray just went out in the 2nd inning with an apparent oblique injury. Not good for them.
And Weiters just hit a homer off Ray’s replacement. Go Nats.
How much do we really lose with Specs at second? Defensively, maybe, but he already has almost as many ribbies as Panik (2 to 4) and he’s played a lot less. Truth be told, Panik has done squat with the bat since the early part of the season. Specs will probably be a capable fill in.
the only thing I’m a little worried about is that he’s a pretty slight guy not used to the rigors of playing every day. He could easily hurt himself. But I’m kinda interested in seeing what this Hanson guy can do so losing Specs wouldn’t be the end of the world
Well, he certainly has come pop. That was a bomb he hit yesterday and he was jacking them in Sac Town too.
Hanson got a decent run of playing time last year between Pirates and White Sox, so he’ll probably see some now, too.
Myers for SD back on the DL so he’ll miss a chance to duplicate that HR feat at ATT he had last year.
Skinny kid comes up from Sacramento and knocks one over the 421′ sign in his first game. That’s got to turn some heads. Grandal tried that shit and spent the rest of the game scraping egg off his face. lol
Puig to 10-day DL.
nice finger roll finish there from Oladipo. Probably ain’t gonna be enough
Collison’s wide-open missed 3 from the corner with about 2:00 left was a killer. Too bad, Indy had a nice season post-Paul George.
Hansen gets the start.
Matt Moore is pitching a mop-up 8th in relief vs. Jays, haha.
“Rich Hill’s finger is infected. Won’t be activated tomorrow. Stewart could start in Arizona Monday.”
Sometimes it’s just like reading an old fashioned ticker tape machine around here…
“Archduke Ferdinand has been assassinated in the Balkans.”

Awesome, ain’t it?
Kruk breaking out the standby scouting report “He’ll throw anything at anytime…” Thanks, I guess.
The old Buster puts that one in the 15th row…
I think he topspinned it more than anything. Ball was hit hard.
Longballia!
Longo heating it up!
Kuip is not seeing the ball well…
Gonzo Longo!
I’m with everyone on the back end of Longo’s deal being a bummer but for this year at least he’s going to be a big part of our success.
He’s sure as hell swinging it now. Lot of barreled up pitches.
That probably doesn’t go out last night.
Posey Belt Longo looking good in the middle of the LU.
Cool shot of Sandawg and Mr. Sports Dude. Looking good and represnting.
i still don’t understand this directtv commercial. This chick looks to be throwing all this guy’s shit out the window just to simplify her life electronically. Could that be?
She needs to be tossed out the window for fucking up that guitar.
I do grieve for that guitar.
He has to make an effort to save it, though.
His quiet acceptance of what’s happening is classic “guy caught cheating on her.”
Yeah, probably, just don’t take it out on the axe.
It’s a stupid millennial fantasy. Richard Pryor would’ve talked her down. “Come on baby, who you gonna believe? Me or your lyin’ eyes?”
I’m with xoot on this one. Great call, brother…
lol perfect
Giants making Maeda pay for those walks.
Man Belt can hit a baseball hard. That baby was smoked.
Sock it to Maeda.
whoa, that’s a stretch. I guess Pryor’s fiction movies were generally ok.
effing Schulman. Yesterday he confidently tweeted about Mac’s CDL stint being back dated, but now he backtracks. CDL can’t be retroactive. Makes sense, I guess. So Saturday’s the first day Mac can return (if Schulman’s effing right this time).
The SFGate shills are pretty sad across the board.
I read in the Merc, and posed last night, that Mac was eleigible on May 2nd. Who fucking knows….
Does make sense it would not be retro….
Wow, GG play by Craw.
Inexcusable for Bellinger not getting a triple.
Blanco’s triple sort of made that point a bit sharper, too.
Blanco shows him how it’s done.
On a ball that didn’t even reach the warning track.
Blazin’ Blanco…
Fucking Hernandez…
Bummer to waste that triple.
Posey needs to pick his shit up. That was a terrible AB.
I’m shocked they’re not PHing for Maeda.
Bullpen please. Now would work…
Get him out of there Bochy!
Bochy’s old school. The starter has earned the right to crap out at the end.
Craw’s hitting .193 now.
really surprised to see him try and bunt for a hit. Couple years ago he had what 17 bombs and ton of rbis?
He has a lot of swings and misses now.
I think the shifts have really fucked with his head…
Muncy with IF hit.
Something I had heard about Chuck Muncie’s family made me look this up. He had an older brother who was a DB in NFL for Colts, Nelson. But he and other siblings spelled name differently, Munsey.
Apparently their Dad used to do this to avoid paying bills and spelled Chuck’s name that way at Hospital when he was born.
wow, where’d you hear that?
I thought I’d read Nelson was his cousin but turns out he was actually older brother. It was part of a trivia thing, about NFL running backs with cousins played DB . Other one I know of was Mel and Miller Farr.
wiki was the only site that provided the info on the different names so I’ll look into it a little further maybe. Kinda weird tho huh?
Miller Farr was older brother, not cousin, of Mel Far, from Beaumont Tex.
Unlike the Muncie/Munsey bros, he’s still alive.
And Cutch is right behind him at .200…ready to dip into the Mendoza zone….
It’s gotten so it doesn’t even faze us when he and Jackson aren’t in the lineup.
as Loo said last week, imagine where he’d be without that 6 hit game
No shit…
Fuck you Joc.
3 of the most well connected words in the English language
I’d say same thing about Utley.
and Puig
I’m not in the mood today for Dyson’s bullshit.
You just have that nagging feeling not scoring Blanco on the triple affected the momentum of the game.
Utley seemed distracted by Pederson running.
Couple more runs, please…
And the bullpen needs to slam the damned door closed on the bums…
No mention of why Bellinger left?
yeah that’s a hmmnn.
Doesn’t seem like anyonne wants to see more of him, but blanco is having decent season so far.
as he gets picked off lol.
Maybe that’s why.
That looked like a balk
Watson is a bad ass…nice DP. Just what the doctor ordered…
That Togo’s commercial has it all. Drones, cute dogs, food I like.
where do you stand on that Direct TV commercial where the bitch is throwing all the dude’s shit out the window?
I have no emotional reaction to that one. If anyone’s shit was being thrown out a window in my world, it would be hers.
lol nice. In fact, that one’s getting fast tracked to the POTD
I’m not in the mood today for Strickland’s bullshit either, let’s go.
So today’s start time was pushed back an hour because of the DH yesterday. I’m sure that made a huge difference to everyone. More lame, overthinking, nonsense. Just start the fuckin’ game when the ticket says so.
So Strick can’t throw the breaking ball for a strike but the heater is heading right down broadway. I am feeling unsafe about the ending of this inning..
man that curve was a beauty
sweet. Back to .500. Feels good.
Gettin’ ‘er done!
.500!
Three series wins in a row.
Win series regularly and the stats become irrelevant.
Nice win. Now it’s payback time on the friars. .
Pretty amazing to be where they are with basically nothing from Bum, Pence, Jax, Cutch and Craw.
Is Bochy doing a good job?
It’s all those Rivercats settling in from Sacramento…😉
Overall, yes, I think. Mostly the offense has woken up and the pitching has remained solid, outside of a couple of notable hiccups.
The pitchers are. And Longo has.
wow that was impressive.
dodgers solidify hold on 4th place.
The good news? 3 of 4 from the Dodgers.
The bad news? The Pads are coming to town.
Got a free ticket from a vendor for tomorrow’s game. Let’s hope we can finally take these guys.
He’s been throwing some nice breaking pitches lately. Still inconsistent with it, but some of those things are snapping. That’s encouraging.
Clint in 3…2….1……..
Damn, missed him!
Finish April about .500 with a lot of things working well? I’m feeling optimistic.
To celebrate I will now go watch Taxi Driver. It is time…
LOL. Look forward to the review.
Now, I see it clearly. My whole life is pointed in one direction. I see that now. There never has been any choice for me.
the famous garbage strike in NYC contributed to the street scenes, right?
Didn’t know that, Xoot, but I’ll bet the apartment Travis lived in goes for $3,000/month today…
Someday a real rain will come and wash all this scum off the streets. Then these closet sized apartments will be worth a fortune!
You looking at me???
One of the great all-time movies…skipped Westworld premier last week after I consider the first season one of the worst pieces of crap I have ever seen. Why am I being sucked in to watch the premier right now???
Shit, I liked season one.
.500 with a bullet.
Wow.
David Vassegh
@THEREAL_DV
Dave Roberts benched Cody Bellinger for “cruising into second base on a ball hit 421 feet”
Roberts: “I felt there wasn’t hustle on the ball he hit 421 feet into right center field. He cruised into second base. For me I feel he’s too talented of a player. For a team that’s competing every day and grinding. You have a right fielder out there who had chills the day prior and throwing up, diving around out there. For Cody not to be on third base — it’s something we talked about before — I wouldn’t be doing him or the team any service by not acting.
“We’ve talked about it before. He plays every day. There are certain expectations in the way we have to play the game. When you don’t abide by that, we’ll get somebody in there who will. It’s pretty simple.”
Bellinger: “I’ve always played the game hard, I took a big swing, ended up on my knee and we’re down 4 runs, I’m not trying to make an out on the bases trying to go to third.”
you’re not trying to win, asshole. siddown
Wow, wrong answer.
Alanna Rizzo
@alannarizzo
Bellinger was removed from game for not hustling in the 5th inning. Roberts said he’s had conversation with Bellinger about this before. Won’t tolerate lack of effort.
This gal (dodger reporter) has bunch of tweets including Roberts live explanation. Then she sticks up for bellinger, saying,” he’s22. People forget that” and that he answered questions with “great maturity” and didn’t disrespect mgr’s. decision.
Sounds like the reporter babe is the one who dissed mgr’s. decision. Wow. Doubt Billy Martin would have tolerated Bellinger standing on 2b either.
