A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Racking Up The Wins

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 18, 2018

EXTREMELY stoked that we get an opportunity to shitcan the Marlins so quickly. I doubt we blow them out tonight but, my flapping friends, a *Suarez Shut Down* game is on the horizon.

The Giants have played the most road games this year of any team in mlb. Any time SF wants to stop spinning its wheels and get fat and happy at home, they are free to start that ASAP….

I never liked Phil Mickleson. He was Denny’s favorite golfer, lulz. This weekend he exposed himself as the fraud I knew him to be. That was *muni golf* bullshit. I am loving watching him go down in the eye of the public….

Great point. And also: Had “Stratty” and his wife had that baby in the off season, say in December, he’d have a good chance at 20 wins this year. LOL?
djloo27 said, on June 17, 2018 at 9:23 pm (Edit)
What would he do if there was only 3 games left in the season and they were going into LA tied with them for first?
Stratton on pace to go 18-8.
    Wouldn’t count on it…

maybe I’m old school about this but I don’t get this paternity leave stuff at all. It would make more sense if these ball players were going there because their wife needed the help or something but they have paid help all over the place. There is no actual *need* for the father to be there except to be a part of the *moment*. And with this being Craw’s 4th kid, I’m guessing that *moment* is dulling a bit.
I can support missing a game for this stuff. But 3 games? That’s is a fucking travesty, there is zero argument for him to miss 3 games. Why not 5? Or 10? See how stupid this is?

Giants sign No. 2 pick Joey Bart to largest upfront bonus ($7.025 million) ever for position player. In addition to Bart, the Giants signed the rest of their top 16 selections and 23 of their first 25.

Suarez so far has been lot better at home than on road. Hitters .209 at home vs. .330 on road and slugging lot higher too.

Compared to Strat, he has lower WHIP, gives up fewer BBs and has more Ks. Strat’s ERA is .70 runs better tho. RHs are killing him so maybe he needs better control of an out pitch.

Bochy used 5 guys to close things out so be nice to see Suarez and the other 5s give them bit of a rest.

Fuck…so happy our boys got a W in tinsel-town. Giants now have a 7-6 season series lead on la bumbinos. I was competing with my dog yesterday, so was folllowing on LameDay and caught the final two innings in the truck on the way home.

OK, time for some serious paybacks…and an old-fashioned fish fry. Giants need to make hay of these chumps, as the following two weeks after the Marlins series are key:

    4 against Dago
    3 against Zona
    6 against the Rox.

Time to put-up or shut-up. Are our guys truly contenders or posers…that two weeks could shed a bit of light on the situation.

I still think that when the Giants get healthy (Cueto and Longo), and if they play to potential, they can make some noise.

Strick quietly notched 14th save yesterday in 16 ops. He’s making $1.5 mil and is arb eligible. He’s having fine season and seems settled in and calmer in closer role.

Contrast that with Rox W Davis, who blew his 4th yesterday, retiring only 1 man in 38 pitches, walking 4 and giving up 2 singles @. Texas after entering with 3 run lead in 9th. Davis is signed for 3 yrs at $52 mil. ERA sits at 4.55 ouch

Phil is catching a lot of crap for that hockey goalie move on the green. But, I liked it. The last Open at the same course had the exact same BS set ups and same idiotic results on play. Contrary to promises, the USGA stuffed shirts set up that course stupidly again like shooting for the clown’s mouth at a Putt Putt. So why not play it like that to show how dumb that is?…

    • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on June 18, 2018 at 9:37 am

because it’s the US Open. If they don’t like how the course is set up they can pass on playing. What he did was complete and utter disrespect

Strick has blown three saves, so 14 of 17. He’s been much better after a rocky start, but three blown saves is too many for 17 opportunities. He’s definitely trending in the right direction, though, and his secondary pitches are night and day from years past.

    • chipower9's avatar chipower9 said, on June 18, 2018 at 9:59 am

He’s the best option for the team, right now. He had a rocky May but has looked really good of late. Also, a majority of the top closers have at least two or three blown saves. Strickland is not the problem. Biggest problem with the team right now is we need the starters to go deeper into the games (six complete if not more, IMO. Secondary is defense…need to tighten it up with fewer errors.

  12. sandog's avatar sandog said, on June 18, 2018 at 8:59 am

Koepka is no Andy North—and I love Andy North. North was a guy who hit it short, played conservatively and could putt like hell. A great combo for US Open. Koepka is a stud athlete who looks like he could play free safety in the NFL. (borrowed that line from ESPN)

I’m in the Love Mickelson/Can’t Stand Tiger Camp. For me, you are either a Woods guy or Mickelsen guy, and I love Phil. I have no problem with what he did on the green. Media making way too big of a deal out of it just because its Phil and they are hurting for storylines.

Woods guy, but love the description of being in his camp or Phil’s . . . Accurate in my opinion. Regarding his mini-golf stunt, I actually thought it was hilarious and had no problem with what occurred afterwards – his comments or the PGA penalty.

However, what pisses me off is the insider trading he committed and then throwing his buddy, sports gambler Billy Walters under the bus, to ensure he wasn’t convicted. Billy Walters is quite a character – if you get a chance, Google him. However, I digress . . . the only reason Mickelson isn’t in jail is because of the plea bargain deal he made, where his buddy paid the price and went to jail.

The thing about FIGJAM Mickelson is he KNEW the ball was going to roll into that sand trap. He would have likely taken 3 shots or more. Hard to fault him for knowing the rules, but he wasn’t the only one complaining about the conditions that day. Even the USGA officials apologized for the pin placements and conditions ion Saturday.

And people didn’t freak out when Daly did the same thing, BFD. Sanctity of the game and all that is bullshit When you make the course about playing it safe and not taking risks, it makes for boring golf.

In the entertainment business, in music and theater especially, but also in sports, “the show must go on” used to be taken more intensely than nowadays.
The NBA is a travesty when it rests superstars for entire games. An unheard of thing in the past.
People buy tickets in advance. The Who didn’t cancel a tour when Entwistle died a few days before the tour started. Some people were appalled the tour went on, but Townsend and Daltry were old-school about it: the show must go on.

Giants beat writer Henry Schulman joined Gary & Larry on Monday and said that with Pence and Jackson struggling like this, the Giants know they are going to have to make a change soon.

“They understand that with both Pence and Jackson there’s going to come a point, probably sooner rather than later, where they are going to have to make a tough decision, because we’re getting to the point of the season where it’s not early anymore,” Schulman said. “They need the offense wherever they can get it. Slater has done everything he can to make the 25-man roster, and something you didn’t mention is that with Longoria out, that’s a big right-handed bat that’s missing from the lineup that is going to be out for another six weeks. The Giants know they are more vulnerable against left-handed pitching right now.”

Schulman indicated that in an ideal world, the Giants would like to trade Pence to a team looking for veteran leadership.

“So what and how the denouement is going to be — if I can use a French word — how it’s going to happen, I don’t know,” Schulman said. “When it’s going to happen, I’m not sure. I think with Pence they would love to have him be able to just hit enough so that maybe they could find a team, a young up-and-coming team that could use some veteran leadership down the road. I mean the Giants would have to pay his whole salary, he would agree to have to go, but I agree with you that it can not go on longer with having Pence and Jackson be on the roster, basically half the bench, where you get no production at all. They know it. It’s just a matter of how and when it’s going to happen.”

  54. Macdog's avatar Macdog said, on June 18, 2018 at 9:51 pm

Maybe the worst loss of the season if this holds up.

    Bad loss boys.

  56. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on June 18, 2018 at 9:51 pm

Bochy late on the pull, Musclehead had nothing. Thanks for managing to give up the lead, Bochy….

This just seems to happen too often? Sure seems like it to me…Fuck…

  57. blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on June 18, 2018 at 9:52 pm

Fucking Strickland talking shit while walking back to the dugout. Well played dumbass . . . Go take a shower.

    • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on June 18, 2018 at 9:55 pm

I’ve never liked this dude after wrongly liking him initially because of the velocity.
He is a dumbass. You really don’t want a dumbass as a closer, because in a real tight situation in a big game, the dumbass in him is likely to show up…

      • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on June 18, 2018 at 9:59 pm

You know that most closers are different and a bit off a la Wilson, Romo, etc. However, Strickland is stupid and emotional. Consequently, he let’s his emotions get the best of him, which results in stupid displays as we just witnessed. Disappointed because we had this game in the bag.

      • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on June 18, 2018 at 10:00 pm

        Agreed w all that.
He gets vapor lock in a macho sort of way, and the dumbassery shows up.
        Bad things follow…

  58. chipower9's avatar chipower9 said, on June 18, 2018 at 9:54 pm

I agree with snarkk that Bochy owns this one as much as Stricknine…

  59. xoot's avatar xoot said, on June 18, 2018 at 9:55 pm

Stricknine doesn’t seem to understand what type of “mental” is essential to the closer mentality.

    Pfffttt…fuck this…

Specs was hitting about .150 at Sac, wasn’t he?

    • zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on June 18, 2018 at 10:04 pm

      He’s completely stopped hitting.

      • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on June 18, 2018 at 10:06 pm

That was a great play (saved a run at the time) by him behind 2nd. Too bad musclehead lost a gasket and cost us the game afterwards.

      • zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on June 18, 2018 at 10:08 pm

        Yeah, Spec’s defense was sharp.

      • xoot's avatar xoot said, on June 18, 2018 at 10:10 pm

Specs got called up instead of Calixte or d’Arnaud because he can make those plays. It’s beautiful. But damn you don’t want to see him leading off in the bottom of the 9th when you’re down.

  62. Macdog's avatar Macdog said, on June 18, 2018 at 10:03 pm

    Fucking awful, just fucking awful.

  63. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on June 18, 2018 at 10:03 pm

Now, that’s how a closer works -“Bearclaw”.
To me, this earns Musclehead a demotion. No question.
Not just the result, but the dumbassery (again) that went with it.
And Bochy, if he were in NY, would get a media grilling.
    Terrible loss…

  64. blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on June 18, 2018 at 10:04 pm

    31-0 with lead after the 8th . . . until tonight’s fiasco.

    • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on June 18, 2018 at 10:10 pm

I might have heard it wrong. Sorry, dunno. However, your point is good.

  67. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on June 18, 2018 at 10:12 pm

Told you guys this morning the Marlins are kraptonite to the Giants, and I’d take winning one of three and like it. I’m still down with that…

  70. zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on June 18, 2018 at 10:16 pm

Specs had to lead off the 9th because the Giants are carrying 5 outfielders; they’re hanging onto both Pence and Jackson.

    • zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on June 18, 2018 at 10:19 pm

Two guys that are worthless as pinch-hitters, too.

  71. blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on June 18, 2018 at 10:24 pm

Right now, we’re vulnerable to teams that stack left handers against us (and they will with Longoria out and Pablo only effective against righties). This is where Henson comes in, as he’s serviceable against lefties.

  72. zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on June 18, 2018 at 10:32 pm

Bochy actually could have pinch-hit for Tomlinson, but with the choice being Pence or Jackson to bat for Tomlinson or the pitcher, he passed, like: what’s the point?
Wow. 2 outfielders on the bench and Bochy passed on both.
Hansen could have played shortstop in the possible extra inning game.

    • zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on June 18, 2018 at 10:36 pm

OK, I’m still tripping on this.
Bochy officially gave up on Pence and Jackson. In theory, they were supposed to be guys who could tie the game with one swing of the bat. Pence, especially.
      It’s OVER with those two.

      • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on June 18, 2018 at 10:40 pm

Yep, for Pence anyway’ and it wasn’t like they were down by 2 where a solo shot wouldn’t have tied it; it would have…

      • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on June 18, 2018 at 10:40 pm

Not a good look/message to Pence and Jackson. Might as well release them if he’s not going to use them.

      • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on June 18, 2018 at 10:46 pm

Good point Zumiee . . . I went back to the “play by play” on ESPN and not only did he not pinch hit for Tomlinson, he didn’t pinch hit for Gorkys, who came to the plate with an 0 for 4, with 2 S0s. He could have pinch hit for him too.

    • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on June 18, 2018 at 10:39 pm

Yes, he might as well not even have a choice, Just saw the interview with Strickland . . . To his credit, he maintained his composure and answered the questions.

    • Macdog's avatar Macdog said, on June 18, 2018 at 10:51 pm

Yep. That was a real problem with Specs leading off the inning, the Giants desperately needing to get the leadoff batter on base, and there are no better options on the bench.

  73. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on June 18, 2018 at 10:54 pm

I dunno. I’m not sure at all I’d rather have Pence or Actionless hit for Specs in a clutch moment to get on base, regardless of Specs recent history of weak hitting. Specs has speed, he can get on and then score from first on a long double…

    • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on June 18, 2018 at 11:06 pm

Exactly. He is the choice as Mac and Zumiee have indicated as well. When your options are those two guys, who can blame Boch for going with the status quo?

Sabes and Evans need to get off their asses and start earning their pay grade.

    • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on June 18, 2018 at 11:06 pm

No, I’d rather have Duggar or Slater.

  74. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on June 18, 2018 at 11:04 pm

Went to the game with my son. The wind was howling early straight to LF. It helped Pablo’s HR and the ‘double’ by Posey. Tomlinson was sharp o n D but crap offensively. Fucking Strick looked like shit from pitch 1. What a shitty way to end the game. The Marlins are barely a AAA team the way they played defense. And they still kicked our ass. $30.00 club level seats between home and 3rd were nice, but it was obvious Strick was sick and Boch left him in to crater. I’m about to lose hope if we keep 4-5 auto-outs in the line up every fucking game.
