Ace Time
Kinda need the guy holding that ring on the right side of the blog to step up big time today. We’ll see if the bats can step up, too. Did you guys catch the afternoon scores? Red Sox 15, Nats 18, D-backs 20! Now that was some bat porn doing its thing. *bat porn*. Man, good ol’ Twinner woulda given it to me for that one, eh?
I got a long drive ahead of me today. Maybe the KNBR connection fades in at the right moment, we’ll see….
watched some of AZ game. Pads got 2 in first, AZ came back with 4 or 5 vs. Tyson Ross who threw 42 pitches. Then he gave up another bomb and 3 more in 2nd. By top 5 it was 15-4 but AZ SP rob Ray had thrown 95 pitches and given up 3 bombs. He gets 1 out gives up hit and a walk and Lovullo pulled him. Can you imagine? Your team gets you 15 runs and you can’t go 5 for a W.
That’s when you need a Panda to come in and shut the door!
Fun fact from my daughter, who lives in Az but home for the week. Dbacks scored 20, so now the Rays are the only MLB team in history to have never scored 20 in a game…Can you even imagine this team doing that? Not me, and if we did I know it would be quickly followed by another streak like the one we are in now. 2 runs or less 7/8 games:(
Gearrin, Jackson and a minor leaguer traded to Texas for PTBNL or cash. Duggar and Black called up.
Halle-fucking-lujan! I could care less what we got in return. Getting rid of the dead wood, AND the salaries, thereby giving some breathing room around the luxury tax. Now, how the hell do we jettison Pence…
Giants also threw in a pitcher from San Jose, Jason Bahr, 5th round pick last year, looking pretty decent, the other guys aren’t. 27th ranked player in Giants minors. So, trade AKA — take these two dudes, please, here’s a crapshoot prospect for your trouble.
Jackson move conclusion:
a bust, not so much the small money expended, but the roster spot wasted for 1/2 season…
Bat porn…lulz! Giants need a double shot of that shit! RIP, Twin.
Safe travels, Craig.
After they threw him out there on waivers, Gearrin must have been put on ice for that long period so he would not get hurt while they were looking for some team to take him off their hands. Because of this lux tax allergy, they end up giving up a pretty decent single A pitcher instead of just DFAing those guys…
Duggar not exactly ripping it in Sac, but the guy can play outfield, no question:
Line at Sac: .272 .354 .421 .775
Leads PCL in doubles…
well, the single A San Jose guys at least couple years from being called up is price you have to pay for. dumping off AJ to any team that would take him and Gearrin while saving $$$. win win.
Let’s see what Duggar can do. Cutch and Pence likely gone next year so Giants have to get a look at what he and Slater can do vs. ML pitching. This will give them better idea for off season when they have more $$$ to spend.
I still don’t think one end of bench guy means much. Saw more stats today about slumps by Belt ( 9-41 before yesterday) Cutch Craw Sando. these are the guys that are gonna make a difference one way or the other..
Rosenthal on twitter:
“#Rangers taking on rest of A. Jax’s $3M in ‘18 and $3M in ‘19 to buy SP prospect in Bahr. Also like Gearrin in middle relief with several bullpen arms on DL and others likely to be traded. #SFGiants get luxury-tax relief; Gearrin owed balance of $1.675M.”
So, essentially, Giants end up trading away a high round pick (yeah no guarantee of success), because they didn’t trust their minor league OFers over the winter, and felt they had to sign an OFer that was pretty much a bust from the get go. Hopefully David Bell is going to fix this kind of thing…
If Duggar looks like he stays, I would consider trade of McCutchen to get rid of his last half salary, open up a spot for Shaw. Unless McCutchen heats up immediately, I don’t see a big loss offensively, and his glove is cast iron compared to Duggar. Shake this thing up…
I have no attachment to McCutchen, but dumping him would be giving up on the season.
They’re still too close to justify that.
Do you think any contenders could use McCutchen?
IDK if any can use him, that’s Sabean’s job.
I don’t see the production = the salary hit to keep him, plus the guy is gone back to Pittsburgh next season.
All he is doing is blocking younger players getting playing time to see what they can do…
Saw something interesting on MLBTR beside the Bum to the Yankees and who they would give up stuff that will take up rest of month. A blogger guy said, for all the ragging Giants get for a crummy farm system, Moronta Suarez and DRod have looked pretty dang good so far. Even Strat wasn’t that bad and gets chance to go down and work on some stuff and he sounds like focused guy.
Add that’s not counting Slater and Duggar.
One of the main reasons for staying under the tax is that they can make a hard run in free agency next year. There is a lot of talk that the Giants are targeting Harper.
Not even a snowball’s chance.
I wouldn’t want the guy anyway.
They need more than one player…
I shit you all not…I was about to post last night what a waste Austin Jackson has been and what could we get to dump him to an AL team. I was even looking up stats and salaries of people like Dyson and Cain who were possible alternates to signing Jackson and then I got last and did not post. Who was another possible OF who was out there late in free agency???
So apparently Jackson is worth shit…pretty much how he played…along with Gearrin…
The guy I preferred was Carlos Gomez.
He sucks too…
That didn’t take long. Duggar with the start.
1. Steven Duggar (L) CF
2. Buster Posey (R) C
3. Andrew McCutchen (R) RF
4. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
5. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
6. Pablo Sandoval (S) 3B
7. Alen Hanson (S) 2B
8. Gorkys Hernandez (R) LF
9. Madison Bumgarner (R) P
Duggar has struck out over 100 times in 316 ABs at Sac. To me that is a big red flag since he is gonna face a lot tougher pitching at this level. He isn’t a power hitter anyway and hits LH. So in order to use his speed he has to make contact take walks and get on base. D is fine but let’s see if he anything more than AAAA hitter. what is reasonable expectation for someone who hits .270 in Coast League to have in ML baseball? we’ll see.
At worst, Duggar is Actionless at the plate, but far better in the field, better arm. I’ll take that swap…
This is excellent news…
I wasn’t as down on Jackson as most. He was a depth signing that didn’t work out. Glad to see Gearrin go. Like others said, this frees up money for a move.wouldnt mind seeing McClutchen go too. Giants will add to the BP imo but I guess we’ll see.
Black should be interesting. He regularly breaks 100mph with his fastball.
Thank you, Rangers.
Wow, Duggar at leadoff, why the hell not for a team that’s scored 10 runs in the last six games.
Read that Texas told MINAJ not to report – could be on his way elsewhere…
Black’s been the closer at Sac, don’t be surprised if he gets a crack here, if Smith needs a day off..
Guys named Black are usually white.
Guys named White are usually black.
Maybe Sabes& Boch do occasionally take the Flap seriously 😒.Most of us have been relentless on dumping MINAJ, and caveman Gearrin.”Just 2 new faces is a upgrade for me”
Athletic says SF sending two dudes to the All Star Futures Game:
Shaun Anderson
RHP | Age: 23 | Ht./Wt.: 6-4/225
Came over from RSox in the Noonie trade. Now at AA, and doing well as starter. Figures to come up to Sac soon. Now considered top pitching prospect, over Beede. Might get invite to major league camp next Spring.
Heliot Ramos
OF | Age: 18 | Ht./Wt.: 6-2/185
Playing in low A South Atlantic league, with guys several years older.
Doing well. Big upside. Power, speed, smart, coachable.
Figures to be at Single A San Jose all next year.
Tracking to be ready to play in SF late 2020 call up, or by 2021…
Good stuff; thanks!
All things considered, great trade by the Giants. A possible win/win for both teams, which is fine. I don’t feel like there always has to be one team that “won” the trade.
I think Texas is fuckin’ nuts.
We’ll know for sure in a few years i guess…
Texas needed some pitching in the minors, they’ll pay the salaries of Actionless and Gearrin to get it. If Gearrin actually pitches some, that’s a plus, but the Rangers are out of contention, doesn’t really matter. Actionless may be on his way somewhere else, per post above. If so, they’re taking Gearrin to get Bahr, which seems like a good roll of the dice…
Yeah, if the young pitcher turns into something.
And Gearrin might be an upgrade in their bullpen. Gearrin’s not terrible, just terribly inconsistent.
Does this take some of the heat off Pence – or increase it?
I don’t know, but man would they love to be able to trade him. They’d have to pay a gigantic chunk of his salary. But no one’s going to trade for him.
mm Slater Duggar are wave of future and figure to rotate with Gorks for bulk of time LF/CF. Doubt Pence gets much run so yeah I’d say increases the heat.
Trade Pence and pay 80% of his salary, they still are ahead, give themselves more flexibility.
Why pay a guy $3 million a month to be a cheerleader, and an occasional PHer that hits dribblers to 3rd and SS…
Who would want him?
Maybe Cleveland?
And don’t look now but the A’s, who Giants face for 6 games with home away series each of next 2 weekends before and after AS, are slapping Indians around 6-0 and would get to 50 Ws if they hold on.
They have a scary offense. Lots of power.
Giants will be fortunate to take 2 of 6 from A’s.
A’s are playing well. If Samardzxxx pitches an A’s game, they’ll hit 3 dingers off him before he leaves in the 5th…
Per Miller, last two seasons where Bum has pitched 13 times giving up 2 or fewer runs, the Giants are 4-9.
Ouch…
First impression:
A slightly less flinchy version of Parker (who sucked).
I think they even gave him his old number…
Good stuff on the Futures Game, Snarkk. Thanks.
Ramos is supposed to have a big upside with lots of potential, but so far with Augusta: .241, .318, .378, .696 in 294 AB, with 6 HRs.
I guess the worse you do, the greater your upside…
Other teams just have more power than the Giants. The ability of the hitters to just run into one more often
Hanson again with the dive. He’s going full speed, why do that?
As for pressure, I’d say he’s got some if he wants a full time job. Panik might be trade candidate if Hanson shows he can field the position adequately and hit better. If not, then it’s back to couple starts a week, esp after Longo gets back next month.
Where’s the coaching, to tell Hanson to stop those meaningless dangerous dives into first? Bochy could just tell him to stop doing it. Baseball’s weird that way. In football or basketball the coaches are more likely to just tell a player to stop doing something.
Good patience by Bum in the batter’s box.
All right what do you do here—bunt or let the kid hit away? He bunts they probably walk Posey to get to Cutch like they did before.
Duggar, sigh….protect the plate.
as LH speed guy he should already know how to bunt. arrgghh
ha. Cutch whacked the kid’s 96 fastball first time up, now he hangs breaking ball.
Belt got pitched outside first time up and they have nobody over there. They do it again and he burns them on a bloop.
An old-fashioned rally! Stringing together hits, walks, and errors!
wow looked like sure thing. Pablo swung at dumb pitch again but shoulda had a rbi.
Did McCutchen slip?
Hanson swung at ball 4.
The Giants just flat-out blew getting another run.
And now it’s tied.
and now behind.
That happened to Bum last game, little bloop hits.
One of the funnier bad guys in WWF. “The evil clown…”
Also pet name for everyone guy I worked with didn’t like, including me at times.
That Bader kid for the Cards is pretty damned good.
Radio said emphatically that McCutchen should have tagged up and scored on that Panda fly. Ozuna looks like he has an arm problem. So, WTF, did any of you guys see that? Either he or Wotus or both screwed up an apparently sure run…
It was a major screw-up, whoever’s to blame.
Sorry, but not really impressed with McCutchen.
At $14 million, they had to expect more than this…
Baseball is always a mystery. That is part of the appeal i suppose. Why is Hansen still diving? Don’t know. Why did the Rangers make this trade? Lets play a game. I am the rangers GM. I pick the worst player on offense. Then add the worst pitcher on the staff and I’ll take them both!
Why are the A’s playing so well? Why are the freaking Yankees and Red sox developing talent so much better than most all the other teams? Why do the damn Dodgers have ANOTHER guy who could never hit before become an all-star? Mysteries I am willing to get to the bottom of every year:) Go Giants!
yeah man good ones. why are so many of Cards hitters wearing just the one sleeve on warm sunny day in SF, in different colors no less?
The Giants winning 3 championships in 5 years! Sherlock Holmes would struggle with that mystery….. 🙂
Bum’s jamming these righthanded hitters, but they bloop and flare hits.
That S happens when you start losing your stuff…
Giant have to lead the league in not scoring the runner from 2nd on a single to the outfield. I’d like to know, there probably is a stat somewhere for that.
Frustrating as hell…
Boom! This guy ain’t fooling anybody this inning.
Panda Power!
Panda continues to build the feel good story of the season, as imponderable as it is.
Adios Pelota !!!…
A blast!
Can Hanson steal?
Dude is fast. Send him and find out…
so who is in on deck circle?
Bum’s thrown 94 pitches so far…
I luv what Hanson brings to the table in speed and energy.
He pressures the defense.
Who’s the last Giant that goes from first to third on an infield grounder to SS?…
With two outs and oversliding the bag? Wiilllie Mays Hays
Nice day at the park. Everybody digging duggars first hit
Yanks need a starter.
Samardzxxx needs to do another decent start, maybe a good start, and let’s move him…
Yanks are looking for something much better than Smdzj…
So, we have gone from not scoring runs, to not being able to hold a lead? Just gave back another run, let’s see if they can close the deal on a W.
there you go line drive base hit gets btw OFs for double.
PandaMonium!
lulz. Gonna put some King Fu on yo ass…
Duggar with an official BA now.
Nice miss on Hanson’s flyball…
Damn, the bats FINALLY wake the hell up…
Going to need all of that bat porn when the face the Fucking A’s…
Hanson scores from first on the single.
fwiw, Cards are paying this guy Holland $14 mil as FA on one year deal.
Pence getting some mop-up time…🙄
Should see Black if he’s in uniform…
Just a tiny gripe, but with Pence on the roster, Bochy gives him these garbage-time innings that could be used for Slater’s development.
If Gorkys can’t play tomorrow, would Bochy start Duggar and Slater together? I’m doubtful, but maybe he’ll surprise us.
Craw starts the All-Star game, Posey no.
Black’s command so far looks like anywhere in the 94111 …
OK. Get Black the fuck outta there before they give up this game!
We’ve got a new Strickland!
Just thinking that…
Tough to hang that on him in one outing. But drafted in 2011, so what, is he a slow developer???
Hey Black, FYI , this ain’t Sac…
Strickland redux.
yeah first thing I thought of. I got your 100 mph fastball right here.
Strick & Black;
And rent a kayak…
lulz!
oh man that’s gold.
Hey saw shot of much hated Jose Oquendo in 3b box.
Is Elio Chacon still alive?
Died young in 1992. The Mays body slam was not to blame..

thx Loo,. Only you would know that. Classic pic!
Watson, Mr. Calm-things-down.
