Saturday! (I Think)
Didn’t see the game but the box score looks nice. Panik’s hurt again? That’s not moving the needle for me–I never thought he was much. Smarge’s Launching Pad set to go off today. Remember WIlliam VanLaunchingpad? That was a great nickname.
Six teams in front of us in the wild card. Three in front of us in the division. We need a run at some point this year….
Craw and Panik make hella DP team. Aren’t Giants at tops for DPs turned? Kid sure looked good last night. coming off the mound one inning he seemed pretty pumped after defense turned another DP for him.
Hope getting guys walked ahead of him relights fire under Cutch who as Snarkk said was overdue for clutch hit. He seemed pumped about it too, so hope he can make more good things happen out there. In the field too, pls.
Not going to get into the whole “bad contracts” discussion on day Smrdz returns but…3 guys who had previously been linked to that group as untradeable are likely to be representing Giants at AS game—Crawford Belt Posey.
Yeah, definitely need a good run of wins, this team hasn’t had a big winning streak this season. There’s ample evidence of why, of course, but that’s what it’s going to take to make the post-season. There are 2 teams ahead of them for the division, and 3 ahead of them for the 2nd WC (plus tied with Rox). A week or so ago before getting swept in Denver, they were only 1.5 games out of the WC. Even though there are more teams ahead of them in the WC, over the rest of the season, they might stand a better chance of passing a few of the other WC contenders than they do of passing both AZ and LA for the division. They would have to pass either AZ or LA to get a shot at the WC play-in game, otherwise, they’d need to gain 5-1/2 on the Cubs. A lot of variables, for all teams involved, yet to unfold.
Or something like that…..
No confidence in Smardzxxxx at all.
I’m hoping he limits to 2 dingers and 5 innings with 90 pitches, then out with 4 runs max coughed up.
I heard he’s career 69-91. That’s worse than not good. Given that stat, I don’t know why some fans expect a lot from this guy. Big, strong guys can be lousy pitchers…
Ha. VanLaunchingpad…had not thought of him in some time.
Was cool to see Cutch get the game winner, because his couple of snafus in the OF last night had me seeing red. Like Willie, hope he comes around on both sides of the equation.
RE: Panik, he is a lifetime .278 hitter (.341/.402 OBP/ SLG), and after five years and 1800+ AB, he averages 11 bombs and 61 RBIs per year. Streaky? Oh yeah, but most on this squad are.
They showed a stat last night that Panik leads all of MLB in making contact, so he gets wood on the ball frequently, he just needs to find the holes. He had a good sac fly last night that moved a runner to 3rd. Couple all that with he and Craws DP prowess, I don’t have a problem with him. He is certainly our best option at this point.
Great that, per Boch last night, that Slater and Hanson will be getting most of the time in LF and at 2nd.
Remember Chi, that 11/61 stat that BR gives you (on Panik) is extrapolated (?) to a 162 game season. The most he’s ever actually played was last year’s 138 – a number he won’t approach again this year. And he’s never hit more than 10 homers in a season. He’s a pretty big dude for a 2B – listed at 6’1/200. I had hoped he’d be capable of at least Crawford-type power numbers…
Yep, I get that, Loo. Those numbers are from Baseball Reference, but hey, they are all similar for basic stats. Given his glove and how Crawford and he perform together on the DP, and what he does bring to the plate, that he isn’t one of the main concerns for me with this team.
The boat anchors on this team (IMO) are MINAJ and Pence, and not Panik. Cutch should be better both at the plate and in the OF. Same with Longoria, especially his glove should be better (he has second most errors in MLB at 11). And also, Posey’s power numbers are less than desired.
I’m with Snarkk, I have almost no faith in a good start from Smardj today. So watch him pitch a gem. I actually though Cueto would be much better than he was, but I swung and missed on that one, too. Outside of the first inning Cueto actually pitched OK for his first start off the DL.
1. Gorkys Hernandez (R) CF
2. Alen Hanson (S) 2B
3. Andrew McCutchen (R) RF
4. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
5. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
6. Pablo Sandoval (S) 3B
7. Nick Hundley (R) C
8. Austin Slater (R) LF
9. Jeff Samardzija (R) P
Somebody on the Lurie radio show this morning said a funny thing along the lines of BF’s takes on Rodriguez. The Twins currently have 23 pitchers on their 40 man. If all those guys are better than Rodriguez, the Twins should be on their way to the World Series…
Stratton optioned. Hard to believe they’d give up on the staff leader in Ws.
smart move, imo. Go with who’s effective — now. Rodriguez may give out, I suppose, but right now he looks very competent. Make room for him. The five fives can have a reunion dinner in December.
He hasn’t been very good lately, ever since the kid. He seems like the obvious choice to me.
Anyone else watching the pre-game and see the video on Torres, with the song by Flan? Pretty cool…
England and France both in the World Cup semis, on oppo sides of the draw.
If both made it through, that would be an unbelievable Final, a game for bragging rights after 1000 years of conflict…
Would be sweet. England has a clearer shot, but if France took out Belgium, I wouldn’t necessarily see it as a huge upset. So, could happen.
actual headline today: “English Hooligans Trash an Ikea after England Defeats Sweden”
Brexit pinheads. Vive la France! Liberté, égalité, fraternité! Lop off the Queen’s head and practice penalty kicks with it.
“So, the Shark out of the stretch for the first time . . . .”
I knew we’d hear those words, although I expected Kruk, not Kuip, to utter them.
Couldn’t hold the runner on 1B and thus gave up a run, but it looks like he’s responding tot he challenge by throwing more breaking balls.
K&K keep talking about d’Arnaud being a “big leaguer.” Technically yes, with 49 ML AB over six years. Good to see someone fresh, though. His line from Sacto this year: 292, .393, .522, .915 with 12 HRs in 250+ AB.
Samardzija up to his usual shit tricks. Game over in the 4th fucking inning. These dudes are starting to put me to sleep again.
Prove me wrong Giants, actually make a comeback and get a win and pick up your shit teammate.
San Dawg got jobbed AGAIN with Harvey getting pulled today at 5 2/3 with a quality start looming.
Score some fucking runs, already!
I’m watching Freeland pitch against the Mariners and I can safely say I hate watching this guy throw with that stupid mid-delivery pause. I wouldn’t mind seeing Nelson Cruz rocket a shinburger off his leg. Maybe he’ll rethink the pause.
I’ve seen enough of the Shark. At 80 pitches will Boch trot him back out for the 6th…
This guy walks over 5 batters per 9 IP and the Giants have exactly zero walks.
Well, Samardzxxx did better than I had hoped. He came out after the 5 as predicted, but only gave up the 3, not 4, and no dingers. 6 hits. This is pretty much what we can expect of this guy. Meh…
Wow…damned near fell outta my chair. We scored a run!
Actionless still looking very Actionless…
Ol’ Bochy, you have to give him credit, he sticks to his guns. Austin fucking Jackson, FTW.
All the usual suspects today; Pence, Jackson, Gearrin with a dollop of the Shark for good measure. Season to taste and call it a loss.
Belt comes through…Need another, and another…
Crawford with a blank again.
pathetic.
This fucking team is becoming unwatchable. Trying not to doom, but this team truly gives little hope that they can put some sustained wins together.
Zzzzzz…[snore]
Today Cards 3: Belt 2.
6 outta the last 7 games — SF has scored 2 or fewer runs.
Can’t get into the playoffs that way…
According to the newspaper Baltimore Sun, regarding Machado getting traded:
““The Orioles have received offers from the Dodgers, Diamondbacks, Brewers, Phillies, Braves, Indians and Cubs, and those offers rank in that order.” The source added that all offers are “very close,” but that the Dodgers “currently appear to have the best offer on the table” with the Diamondbacks not far behind.”
Lame offense annoying. Panik hurt means Slater plays more. A good thing imo
Re machado…Go Brewers and Phillys Indians!
This is probably the first time I’ve ever been interested in an NBA summer league game. Kings vs. Suns, Bagley vs. Ayton.
I didn’t watch Bagley in college much. Duke, yuck. I like him, though. Good skill level, good energy.
Something cool about the summer league is the rookies haven’t learned to complain to the refs yet.
William Van Landingham had the longest name in Giants (MLB??) history, longest dong, sang a song, whatever, something like that.
Actually I think 🤔 this guy holds the honor for longest name: Catcher /1B Jarrod Saltalamacchia
The Padres are pretty awful.
