A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Quiet Bats

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 11, 2018

If you were looking for offense, this isn’t the series for you. We scored 2 runs in 11 innings in Game 1. No runs, 3 for 28 in Game 2. Is Cueto for reals going today? I’m still out of town but am working my way back to California…..

yeah Cueto goes today, weekend very unsettled. Saw something about Suarez, might rest him/watching innings. DRod should pitch vs. A’s, maybe Smrdz. Lot of TBA for next 3 on weekend.
Holland as 6th guy could become a thing too, esp off how well he did.

I see where Flan is doing PA duties at the game today. If he is half lit by the seventh inning things could get interesting.

    From Nightengale (USA Today):
“The San Francisco Giants have let the Yankees know that veteran Jeff Samardzija is available, but he’s still owed $46 million, and the Yankees fear that their short right-field porch would be a death trap for Samardzija.”

Yeah I saw that Zumie, no way in hell that’s gonna happen.

Giants should offer to pay half, and be willing to go higher…

Yee haw, them Texas Ranger fellas have designated Austin Jackson for assignment. Don’t let them swinging doors hit you on the way out, pardner.

Smarglebargle is a rightie. Sure, he gives up bombs, but i don’t remember many of them going to RF. I’m sure there’s a chart somewhere.

Oh nevermind. He gives them up everywhere according to baseball-ref. Roll a bunch of lefties on his ass, and it’ll be the Forth of July all over again.

Re: Actionless. Amazing how SF players leave the Giants employ and immediately retire, get released by the other team, etc. Nice pickup by Sabevans. The guy basically was a bust on arrival, and barely 1/4 way thru a two-year deal it cost the organization a potential starter prospect to get rid of him and his salary…

Glad that I had my 6 AM spin class this morning, as it meant I took my ass to bed early, and missed the snooze fest that was last night’s game. Get the W and win another series today!

Frustrating game last night, but it was fun to be there. The amount of Cubs fans in attendance was disturbing. I’m used to seeing scenes like that at Petco, but not at AT&T. That one ball that Happ? lined off the right-field wall was absolutely scorched. I was sitting down by the plate at that time and the sound was amazing. I haven’t seen anything like that since Barry was around.

His bat flip back toward Holland had some air time as well.Very unprofessional, he later apologized to Hundley in his next AB who gave him the snake 🐍 eyes 👀 on the flip and probably told Hundley to relay the message to Holland that it was uncool..

Not all that good of a performance from Cueto. They gave him a 4 run lead and he pitches 5 innings and gives up 3 runs. I hope we’re going to get more from him going forward.

Better than his last one. He’s been out a while. I have faith in his return.

Technically they’re the 4 and 5 in the rotation, but at the moment they are pitching the best.

    • djloo27's avatar djloo27 said, on July 11, 2018 at 6:06 pm

You’re right, Chuck. I never heard of either of ’em until they were called up.
Let’s not make a list of the lost money guys.

BTW, the idiot Cub announcer actually said that the Giants could re-sign Pence next season at a huge discount from his current pay…

I guess it’s the wrong day to say that Posey rarely seems to deliver in the clutch anymore.
The stats might say otherwise, but that’s how it looks to me anyway…

  30. sandog's avatar sandog said, on July 11, 2018 at 7:20 pm

Only Buster could go 3 for 7 and drive in the game winning hit while nursing an injury and catch nothing but crap on here.
Nice game today Buster! We are hard to find, but there are still a few of us who think you are very good at playing baseball.

    • xoot's avatar xoot said, on July 11, 2018 at 7:48 pm

The visit to the mound as Buster came up in the 13th must’ve been simple. “This guy’s got a bad hip. He can’t turn on the ball. Don’t give him anything he can drive to right field.” Well, that didn’t play out the way the cubs wanted it to. After 13 effing innings crouched behind the plate Buster smacks the bricks loudly with his line drive. Beautiful.

  32. willedav's avatar willedav said, on July 11, 2018 at 8:33 pm

I don’t care how much $$ any player makes and I don’t think you can break down salary hit vs. production as a way to value players or run a baseball club. Even tho it didn’t go well he and Belt were team’s 2 best hitters last year and his D is nothing less than stellar.

. In Posey’s best season 2012 when he hit .336 with 24 bombs/103 rbis and .957 OPS he was making $615 K. B/R rates this as a 7.6 WAR value. At that point Giants rewarded him with the big deal after they’d scored second ring in 3 years.
2013 he was paid $8mil and then things rose dramatically after that. ALL of these contracts come with the understanding that the end of the deal will not be as beneficial to the team as first few years. The team knows this going in. Obviously the team got tremendous value his first few years.

F/G calculates 1.0 WAR as being worth as much as $8 mil. Even if you halve that, Posey is still not overpaid as he is approaching back end of the deal.
