Time To Show Oakland Who’s Boss

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 13, 2018

I mean come on, Edwina Jackson? Can our luck get any better? This guy threw a no hitter and sucked. Take a look at that walk to SO ratio:

Look, we got Bum going against the journiest of journeymen. Take Game 1 and the momentum and sweep these chumps…..

Stranded in Oakland…LMAO. Time for Bum to put together one of his masterpieces, and the offense to kick some Fucking A’s ass.

How do the A’s have such a good record? I know nothing about them but it looks like a bunch of .250 hitters and a no-name rotation. I guess the pen looks good on paper, anyway.
Hope old friend Petit’s wife and her massive rack show up…

Pen is great. Rest of team is playing over their head. Young hitters will all be traded soon enough.

How? BFM (black fucking magic)? Smoke and Mirrors?? Because stat-wise (I had to look as I pay almost no attention to the Jr. Circuit), they are reallly middle of the pack in the AL, except OPS and SLG, where they are 5th. Time for the Giants to put a Mojo on that shit.

they are hot right now, beating up on Tribe and Astros, on the road no less. I think I heard best record in all baseball over last month (20-5 or some such). Lot of late rallies and they do hit bombs. Khris Davis, the DH, has lot of pop and so do few of young guys. SPs mostly a crapshoot

I’ve watched a lot of A’s games and here’s my impressions:
-Scary power in their batting order
-Lowery is having a career year
-Defense is pretty good; thirdbaseman is Gold Glove level
-Pitching is pretty good; their closer is elite
-They have good team chemistry; no one was expecting anything from them this year, so they’re playing loosey-goosey and just having fun. They’re a dangerous team. They’ll face pressure later in the season when it really gets down to crunch time.

All I know is that the Giants almost always struggle with the AAA’s. So if the A’s are playing above their heads and we should beat them on paper, we probably won’t. Some of the most obnoxious anti-Giants people I’ve ever met were A’s fans. And I have nothing whatsoever against their team. I’ve seen them buy tickets to a Giants game just to root for the other team. Inferiority complex? I don’t know, but it’s a bit odd.

One day I’m going to find a copy of a t-shirt I saw way back in the ’70, with the classic A’s logo that used to say “The Swingin’ A’s” except “Swingin'” was replaced with “Fuckin,'” and the cleats were all worn out. Hilarious. Me and a Giants buddy laughed on that one for days.

  6. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on July 13, 2018 at 9:13 am

A’s have been kicking ass and taking names. I hope for a split at best of these 6. 2-4 I’d take right now. Giants can’t out score them, have to out pitch them…

  7. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on July 13, 2018 at 10:07 am

And their closer is “Lights Out”
So we better have the lead late and keep him on the bench..

  8. Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on July 13, 2018 at 10:49 am

I’ll drop some photos in the bucket later today…..The A’s have a great closer but we aren’t going to see him pitch. We should crush Edwina and once they bag Game 1 they’re going to feel super confident and come on, Brett Anderson? I didn’t even know he was still in the league. We will crush him, too. Manaea could be an issue but let’s worry about him after manana.

This year, Edwin Jackson’s Command Ratio is 15/4. He’s definitely a journeyman pitcher, though that in itself is a virtue. He has enough ability to stay in the bigs for 16 seasons, won in double digits five times.
He IS a member of that “good enough to be bad” club, pitchers who led their leagues in losses. There are a lot of Hall of Famers and former Cy Young winners in the club, as well as Lincecum and Zito. The thing is, the loss leaders aren’t what they used to be. Orel Hershiser (three time loser) is the last member of the HoF to do it.
A hobby of mine is to update ten-year 25 and 40 man rosters for each franchise. The Rays, Nats, and Cubs all could put in a claim for Jackson, but when Verlander comes off the Tigers books next year, his 13-9 season will be in their starting rotation.

If the fuckin’ A’s sell at the break, they are shitting on their fans yet again. Wolff was a tool of the highest order, but who are they trying to please now by killing yet another playoff run? Fisher? What does he gain by crsapping on the team he owns?

I could give a rat’s ass about the A’s but msybe if they trie to build a winning team instead of jettisoning every star player they have ever had, they could get more support for a stadium deal. Something not at the current location.

  16. Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on July 13, 2018 at 3:38 pm

I’m not sure what they’re supposed to do with Posey. If Bart came up at the end of next year, where does Buster play going forward? His obvious best contribution remaining is squatting and basically being porn for these pitchers who apparently all jizz at the mere sight of his pitch selection. Can he signal that in from first base? I’m half serious.
But if you put him at first base you are weakening that position as well as the LU where you now have the weakest hitting first baseman in either league. Plus Belt in LF is a lame idea….

    • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on July 13, 2018 at 3:41 pm

The end of next year is effectively the 2020 season. At that point the Giants are (urk) only on the hook for $42 mill. Maybe someone would take that on (or a portion of that0 for his squatting/calling acumen.

If he’s still a decent hitter, they could move him then. Or even at the 2020 ASB. Ease Bart into the catching job.

I know I am in the minority here but I respect the hell out of Billy Beane. No one has developed better talent while working with less (financial resources) than anyone in the game. Maybe even the history of the game. Why he has stayed in Oakland all these years is worthy of a sequel to the book and movie.

    • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on July 13, 2018 at 7:27 pm

the A’s pocket their revenue sharing, got busted for it at least once, maybe twice I can’t remember. They cry poverty but the bottom line is that they just don’t spend $$$. Not gonna look it up but their owner is loaded if I recall. And the money teams make via rev sharing is enormous these days. Beane never left because he didn’t want to face the possibility of failing with a team full of big salaries. He likes being a big fish in Oakland’s little pond. I can’t prove all of this obviously but that’s how it looks to me…..

      • wilcojoe's avatar wilcojoe said, on July 13, 2018 at 7:34 pm

I do agree with your theory of his “fear of failing” as that was quite evident in the movie. His failure to live up to his expectations as a top prospect had an indelible impact on the rest of his career. At least that’s how it played out in the movie.

      • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on July 13, 2018 at 7:37 pm

also, money ball has been proven to not work if you judge it off winning a championship. Also, all that *fat catcher* stuff turned out to be a nonsense way to pick players. Beane has made some great moves I’m not arguing that. I just don’t think he’s anything special as a GM. Plus, he’s kind of a weirdo. Does he still not watch the games? What the hell is up with that?

the fielder’s feet are irrelevant. If he dove and touched the ball foul while his feet were in fair ground it’d be foul. end of the rule, a ball’s foul when it, “while on or over foul territory, touches the person of an umpire or player, or any object foreign to the natural ground”
you’d think there’d be all sorts of cameras down the lines. Those were some of the earliest challenges implemented.

no. when the ball hit Canseco on top of the head and flew up into the air it was fair and in play, until it landed in the stands. If it had hit him in fair RF but landed in foul territory it would’ve been a live ball in play and then he could’ve screwed it up with a bad throw back to the IF

I had crabs once, in college. Never figured out exactly where they came from, but man that was horrible. But as you’d expect, the school clinic was well-stocked with the special soap.

dunno how to link it but Baggs had a tweet about watching great bomb saving grab by B Hamilton 5000 times.

So reds and Harvey won 9-1 over STL but he got pulled after 5+ 94 pitches. last 6 starts he is 4-1 with 2.38 ERA in 34 innings, 7 BBs 25 Ks 0 bombs.
Cards btw, are now closer to Reds than first place Brewers.

In old days of speed guys running wild, they got on, they went. I can see holding with belt up there but with Cutch up should have gone. that base hit would have scored him from 2b.

Lowrie finally came out of the game. Had they been playing at Sunken Diamond, he would have died on the field…..

    • willedav's avatar willedav said, on July 13, 2018 at 9:17 pm

Piscotty and A’s better hope he isn’t hurt; that should not have happened. Missing the AS game to heal up would suck.
I was playing in a softball game where 2 guys collided on short IF pop up and one got a compound leg fracture.

    • willedav's avatar willedav said, on July 13, 2018 at 9:35 pm

hella start. He has good breaking ball.
btw Moronta is the guy I bring in to pitch to Chase Utley, with strict instructions.

      • xoot's avatar xoot said, on July 13, 2018 at 9:39 pm

I wouldn’t risk a Moronta suspension. Ray Black was born to pitch to Utley.

just to throw 4 inside fastballs btw. arm and knee and make contact somewhere other than his bat.
