Time To Show Oakland Who’s Boss
I mean come on, Edwina Jackson? Can our luck get any better? This guy threw a no hitter and sucked. Take a look at that walk to SO ratio:
https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/TBA/TBA201006250.shtml
Look, we got Bum going against the journiest of journeymen. Take Game 1 and the momentum and sweep these chumps…..
#rootedinOakland? more like #strandedinOakland
Stranded in Oakland…LMAO. Time for Bum to put together one of his masterpieces, and the offense to kick some Fucking A’s ass.
How do the A’s have such a good record? I know nothing about them but it looks like a bunch of .250 hitters and a no-name rotation. I guess the pen looks good on paper, anyway.
Hope old friend Petit’s wife and her massive rack show up…
Pen is great. Rest of team is playing over their head. Young hitters will all be traded soon enough.
How? BFM (black fucking magic)? Smoke and Mirrors?? Because stat-wise (I had to look as I pay almost no attention to the Jr. Circuit), they are reallly middle of the pack in the AL, except OPS and SLG, where they are 5th. Time for the Giants to put a Mojo on that shit.
they are hot right now, beating up on Tribe and Astros, on the road no less. I think I heard best record in all baseball over last month (20-5 or some such). Lot of late rallies and they do hit bombs. Khris Davis, the DH, has lot of pop and so do few of young guys. SPs mostly a crapshoot
.
Worth the price of admission for that alone. “Her massive rack.” You need say no more, my friend.
Yeah, Craig, post some trip photos if you can. I’m always down for some pics. Others, too, I’m sure.
I’ve watched a lot of A’s games and here’s my impressions:
-Scary power in their batting order
-Lowery is having a career year
-Defense is pretty good; thirdbaseman is Gold Glove level
-Pitching is pretty good; their closer is elite
-They have good team chemistry; no one was expecting anything from them this year, so they’re playing loosey-goosey and just having fun. They’re a dangerous team. They’ll face pressure later in the season when it really gets down to crunch time.
Then they disappear in the playoffs of they get there…
All I know is that the Giants almost always struggle with the AAA’s. So if the A’s are playing above their heads and we should beat them on paper, we probably won’t. Some of the most obnoxious anti-Giants people I’ve ever met were A’s fans. And I have nothing whatsoever against their team. I’ve seen them buy tickets to a Giants game just to root for the other team. Inferiority complex? I don’t know, but it’s a bit odd.
One day I’m going to find a copy of a t-shirt I saw way back in the ’70, with the classic A’s logo that used to say “The Swingin’ A’s” except “Swingin'” was replaced with “Fuckin,'” and the cleats were all worn out. Hilarious. Me and a Giants buddy laughed on that one for days.
A’s have been kicking ass and taking names. I hope for a split at best of these 6. 2-4 I’d take right now. Giants can’t out score them, have to out pitch them…
And their closer is “Lights Out”
So we better have the lead late and keep him on the bench..
I’ll drop some photos in the bucket later today…..The A’s have a great closer but we aren’t going to see him pitch. We should crush Edwina and once they bag Game 1 they’re going to feel super confident and come on, Brett Anderson? I didn’t even know he was still in the league. We will crush him, too. Manaea could be an issue but let’s worry about him after manana.
This year, Edwin Jackson’s Command Ratio is 15/4. He’s definitely a journeyman pitcher, though that in itself is a virtue. He has enough ability to stay in the bigs for 16 seasons, won in double digits five times.
He IS a member of that “good enough to be bad” club, pitchers who led their leagues in losses. There are a lot of Hall of Famers and former Cy Young winners in the club, as well as Lincecum and Zito. The thing is, the loss leaders aren’t what they used to be. Orel Hershiser (three time loser) is the last member of the HoF to do it.
A hobby of mine is to update ten-year 25 and 40 man rosters for each franchise. The Rays, Nats, and Cubs all could put in a claim for Jackson, but when Verlander comes off the Tigers books next year, his 13-9 season will be in their starting rotation.
Good stuff there, SOAD…
Jed Lowrie, another great Stanford alum, will probably be the first guy they trade in the next couple of weeks.
Edwina’s whip this year is 0.927. Grtanted, it’s a small sample, but has he found the fountain of (juice) youth?
If the fuckin’ A’s sell at the break, they are shitting on their fans yet again. Wolff was a tool of the highest order, but who are they trying to please now by killing yet another playoff run? Fisher? What does he gain by crsapping on the team he owns?
I could give a rat’s ass about the A’s but msybe if they trie to build a winning team instead of jettisoning every star player they have ever had, they could get more support for a stadium deal. Something not at the current location.
Tell me what you really feel Chuck..
Oakland fans at their best:
Did they chuck any batteries? Or chairs? This is pretty funny . . .
That’s probably a $10 piece of pizza. lulz
The Zappizza film…
A’s fans seem to put a lot of weight on these cross town series’. Hopefully Bumgarner steps it up tonight.
Bart with six bombs in seven games. Sort of interesting.
That’s a real good sign right after making the switch to wood bats.
Supposedly his hit tool is what’s questionablebut he’s already advanced as a defensive catcher. It will be interesting to see how quickly he climbs next year.
I’m not sure what they’re supposed to do with Posey. If Bart came up at the end of next year, where does Buster play going forward? His obvious best contribution remaining is squatting and basically being porn for these pitchers who apparently all jizz at the mere sight of his pitch selection. Can he signal that in from first base? I’m half serious.
But if you put him at first base you are weakening that position as well as the LU where you now have the weakest hitting first baseman in either league. Plus Belt in LF is a lame idea….
The end of next year is effectively the 2020 season. At that point the Giants are (urk) only on the hook for $42 mill. Maybe someone would take that on (or a portion of that0 for his squatting/calling acumen.
If he’s still a decent hitter, they could move him then. Or even at the 2020 ASB. Ease Bart into the catching job.
I hate the idea of Belt in LF regardless of anything relating to Posey…
As promised I popped 5 pics in the Flap Photo Bucket. I ain’t no Ansel Adams. Anyway, that page is to the right under the Room B link. Pics not in any order, I started in Medford, went to Black Butte, then Reno….
Look who’s batting 5th:
I don’t like Belt in LF either—just because I think he is a great first basemen. Have Bart play LF or 3B if he has a major league ready bat in the next couple of years.
In other news, DFA’d by Braves last week . . .
Besides me, who’s crazy enough to remember a Giant named Steve Bourgeois?
I don’t really get this signing unless it’s just to fill a AAA roster spot.
waste of time. This guy stood out to me as the fastest guy I’ve ever seen who was terrible at stealing bases. And if he couldn’t steal a base he was nearly worthless.
i can’t think of a less interesting or more underwhelming trophy to put in the case at AT&T Park
No Slater again? Dang last time he started was a week ago when Cards were in town.
more disrespect from Bochy towards a great Stanford man. I don’t think Boch like the smart ones.
don’t get why he’s been sitting for a week.
Hey off top of your head, remember any good black baseball players from stanford?
or just non honky?
Carlos Quentin?
If you’re going to have a trophy that goes along with this series (and I don’t think it is a horrible idea), then I think having one that is actually made out of a chunk of the old Bay Bridge is a good way to go.
I like it, except for the NBC logo…
I know I am in the minority here but I respect the hell out of Billy Beane. No one has developed better talent while working with less (financial resources) than anyone in the game. Maybe even the history of the game. Why he has stayed in Oakland all these years is worthy of a sequel to the book and movie.
the A’s pocket their revenue sharing, got busted for it at least once, maybe twice I can’t remember. They cry poverty but the bottom line is that they just don’t spend $$$. Not gonna look it up but their owner is loaded if I recall. And the money teams make via rev sharing is enormous these days. Beane never left because he didn’t want to face the possibility of failing with a team full of big salaries. He likes being a big fish in Oakland’s little pond. I can’t prove all of this obviously but that’s how it looks to me…..
I do agree with your theory of his “fear of failing” as that was quite evident in the movie. His failure to live up to his expectations as a top prospect had an indelible impact on the rest of his career. At least that’s how it played out in the movie.
also, money ball has been proven to not work if you judge it off winning a championship. Also, all that *fat catcher* stuff turned out to be a nonsense way to pick players. Beane has made some great moves I’m not arguing that. I just don’t think he’s anything special as a GM. Plus, he’s kind of a weirdo. Does he still not watch the games? What the hell is up with that?
It landed fair, how could it not be a fair ball?
That’s the part I don’t get.
that should be how it’s ruled but that makes too much sense.
That’s a terrible replay challenge.
It had zero chance of getting overturned without a camera right down the line.
utterly moronic challenge. There was no way to see where that ball was coming down.
I guess I don’t know the rules. He knocked it into fair territory before it hit the ground.
I don’t fuckin’ get it…
Both of his feet were out of bounds, though.
If part of a foot is inbounds, then fair ball.
I’m with Loo. It’s apparently not the rule, but shouldn’t it be where the ball lands?
Player can’t influence where the ball ends up. Remember the dude who blew the bunt out of play? That was such a funny clip, would love to see that again.
the fielder’s feet are irrelevant. If he dove and touched the ball foul while his feet were in fair ground it’d be foul. end of the rule, a ball’s foul when it, “while on or over foul territory, touches the person of an umpire or player, or any object foreign to the natural ground”
you’d think there’d be all sorts of cameras down the lines. Those were some of the earliest challenges implemented.
Case dismissed…
so great.
although wait a min, if the ball hits the outfielders glove and ends up over the fence that’s a homerun. Maybe Loo is on to something….
no. when the ball hit Canseco on top of the head and flew up into the air it was fair and in play, until it landed in the stands. If it had hit him in fair RF but landed in foul territory it would’ve been a live ball in play and then he could’ve screwed it up with a bad throw back to the IF
Yes, thought of that after I posted what I posted.
there ya go Diggity, that trophy is made of the actual Bay Bridge. I still think it’s stupid.
Yeah, but you also didn’t like the Marvin Gaye/Ratt mash-up…..
So wait a min, that chick wants to fuck Toomgis because he grows a green stash? The ladies have lowered the bar apparently…….
I’m like 5 minutes behind live action and I’ve got details on the trophy AND Toomgis “hit that” commercial to look forward to! NICE!
Not low enough…
I was very happy to see the old east span of the Bay Bridge demolished and torn down. The “trophy” fashioned from that junk pile can remind everyone just how weak this rivalry is. The games do count, though. Let’s get this one.
The guy who just caught the foul ball was high-fived by Marichal’s twin…
How absurd. The A’s shouldn’t even be in the same league.
Lowrie never wanted to come off Sunken Diamond, ever. No surprise that great Stanford warrior is staying in the game.
I’m still pondering that stack of chips in the photo bucket.
Is it a joke or are you Axel Freed?
not a joke, Loo. We were down to 10 left at that point, I went out 4th but remember those were tournament chips, not a cash game
never seen that movie, should I put it in the bucket?
Best gambling movie ever – The Gambler (1974)
James Caan’s greatest performance.
So “tournament chips” aren’t worth what they say on them?
no, that was a tournament with a $55 entry fee. Started with 8,000 chips. I have probably 70K in front of me, something like that. Cash games are just that, you play with straight cash in front of you, no limit with what you bet. Tournaments are paid out based on where you finish in the tournament once you make the money….
I will put The Gambler in the bucket to watch this summer. It was made in ’74, it is just now entering my wheelhouse to watch it…..
It’s a lot more than a gambling movie. An amazing character study that could only be written by a guy who lived it…
In Sac, Slater was hitting his way through the PCL like Genghis Khan tore through Eurasia in the 1200s.
So, yeah, of course Bochy hasn’t started Slater the last 5 games…
wow, the balk makes all the difference. what kind of steal play was that with Cutch running but Duggar the speedster just standing there at third watching the ball being served at 2B like a subpoena? Anyway, the balk saves the moment.
Nice RBI enjoyed by Giants (run balked in).
WTF was that steal try by McCutchen and Duggar just sits on third? Hopefully somebody missed a sign…
My favorite Pinder…

no doubt bomb from Pinder. thought coming in Giants pitching needed to keep ball in the yard.
Difference btw As and Giants is their young honkys can hit the ball out of the yard.
They traded away a guy R Healy who hit 25 of them last year because they didn’t have a spot for him.
First weasels, and then….

I can buy weasels getting violent, but otters? Otters spend most of their time playing. their antics in water are well known, but I once saw tracks swerving down a snowy hill where otters had spent a long time belly sliding. Laughing all the way, I’m sure.
Oh they can be violent at times.
well, yeah, if you fuck with em
Yeah, Tom, if the Giants are going to go through a *youth movement*, Boch is likely not the manager you want overseeing it. But some of us have been itching to see him retire for a couple years now anyway…
“The Gambler” is one of the best movies about addiction ever made.
Some other powerful ones are “Permanent Midnight,” “Requiem for a Dream,” and “Auto-Focus.”
Craig, great pic of you and your Dad. Suspenders, a lost American icon….
thanks. He’s really struggling lately. Doesn’t stand up much. He was holding on to me there.
That makes it an even greater pic….
that does make it a great pic. Best to him.
Like to see Bum shorten up and slap one the other way…
Damn! He tried it…
And then….

I had crabs once, in college. Never figured out exactly where they came from, but man that was horrible. But as you’d expect, the school clinic was well-stocked with the special soap.
There’s some subliminal stuff going on there, wish I knew what it was…
dunno how to link it but Baggs had a tweet about watching great bomb saving grab by B Hamilton 5000 times.
So reds and Harvey won 9-1 over STL but he got pulled after 5+ 94 pitches. last 6 starts he is 4-1 with 2.38 ERA in 34 innings, 7 BBs 25 Ks 0 bombs.
Cards btw, are now closer to Reds than first place Brewers.
it was good, not great.
Nice awareness by Belt…
Those magazines worked their way through the animal kingdom.

Moby Dick castration terror!
In old days of speed guys running wild, they got on, they went. I can see holding with belt up there but with Cutch up should have gone. that base hit would have scored him from 2b.
Lowrie finally came out of the game. Had they been playing at Sunken Diamond, he would have died on the field…..
Piscotty and A’s better hope he isn’t hurt; that should not have happened. Missing the AS game to heal up would suck.
I was playing in a softball game where 2 guys collided on short IF pop up and one got a compound leg fracture.
Hipster!
78 mph exit velo!
Yep, he really smoked that one.
Gerald Demp III, not with the power we would like to see, but getting some key knocks/RBIs of late.
Well said. Just trying to find a way to help the team win anyway he can.
Has any team had more guys named Davis than the A’s?
oh, I gotta guess the dodgers
who was the guy Eck walked–Mike Davis? before Rooster’s last highlight in ’88.
Bumgarner hasn’t looked sharp since he came back. He’s been laboring all night.
Would you settle for getting out of this inning tied? I would.
Maybe Moronto will pull a Rod Beck…
hella start. He has good breaking ball.
btw Moronta is the guy I bring in to pitch to Chase Utley, with strict instructions.
What, to put one under his chin?
I wouldn’t risk a Moronta suspension. Ray Black was born to pitch to Utley.
just to throw 4 inside fastballs btw. arm and knee and make contact somewhere other than his bat.
MadBum looked pretty good tonight, until he tired — my guess. I don’t think he hit 93 on the FB but all of his pitches worked.
wow Pablo! He lays out so quickly at 3B. He did that in the game I attended last weekend. Amazing reflex. And Moronta when he’s right is the best.
Serious Kung Fu Panda agility on that play.
Wow! Moranta showing how it’s done, and a helluva play by Mr. Kung Fu!
Good job.
Mount Moronta!
The Angels are such a lame team. Trout needs to get out of there.
Pablo’s play at 3B has been amazing this season.
Moronta has a 5 star arm.
Again don’t understand why Hanson didn’t steal 2b there. He could have already scored on Gorks hit.
ok, what’s the odds on another balk here?
Digging Duggar! BOOM!
Grave-Duggar!
Good one….
yi yi yi!!! I think we have some young OFs now.
Hot Duggar-ty!
Fuck! Hope Belt is not hurt! Fucking A’s!
looks like he’s ok.
The kids making it happen….
stanford honky hangs a breaking ball to the kid who rakes him and now beans Belt. Nice debut there!
A Giants outfield prospect that might actually be good! I feel like weeping.
