Bay Area’s Team Wins Game 1
This picture is hilarious.

Why are both of these yoked out dudes trying to take a painful dump on the Bay Bridge? Actually it looks like the deuce might drop on their respective stadiums and in Oakland’s case, would they even notice? Baha.
Additionally, the trophy is invalidated by the “NBC” on it. That’s like when Papa John’s sponsors your little league team.
But whatever, I’m in. Gimmie another damn trophy. We’ll try to find some space for it at AT&T….
REALLY interesting game tonight. Brett Anderson sucks and Smargerine is looking to try to hang on to what little glory he may have left. This one could go either way…..
When I was a kid I had a Bay Bridge World Series poster that looked very similar to this hanging on my wall in my bedroom. I am certain that’s the look they were trying to emulate. That ‘89 poster was cool. This is just embarrassing.
My friend (early 70’s) had his bedroom wall completely covered with Playboy centerfolds.
Was so jealous…
And the carpet was crunchy . . . *urk*
Moronta saved the game for bum–cool to see him chatting it up with Cueto in dugout afterward. those last 2 ABs by the A’s Bum had to throw 17 pitches before he ultimately walked them both.
Jackson, who also sucks, held Giants to 2 runs, one on the balk. Talk on MLBTR from Beane about A’s being buyers at deadline. hmmnn
Great night for the kid. like Unc said like to see Duggar and Slater out there together.
Still don’t understand why Duggar and Hanson weren’t stealing 2b last night. Doubt Bochy had the cuffs on; maybe they just didn’t feel right about getting good jump. Shame to waste what little speed they have.
Moronta had big helping hand from Pablo too who made super diving grab to save 2 run double.
Panda’s made Wrongoria’s contract look even worse…
When Pablo is batting lefthanded I would agree. He still needs to be platooned. D’anaurd has suddenly arisen as a good platoon option.
The 1989 A’s were a scary juiced team. They had a few guys who were ahead of the curve on juicing up.
If by ‘a few guys’ you mean 80% of them, then yeah.
And our answer was Bill Bathe…
They also had a lot of talent. It wasn’t all steroids.
Muncy hit his 22nd HR last night, and there’s nothing suspicious about that.
That poster is pretty funny. I think Wilco is right that it’s some sort of homage to the ‘89 Series. The club is looking to move Samardzija so he could at least do his part and put together a decent start to two in July. Anyone know what is going on with Longoria? Has he started his rehab assignment or is he just hanging around the house banging his hot wife on the regular? What about that dipshit Strickland?
Wrongo is10 days from his rehab assignment
Great article IMO on espn.com talking to 3 good lefty batters about how hard it is to “just” beat the shift by going the opposite way. Love Matt Carpenter’s comments.
stricknyne is a month and a half.
Someone should tell that dumbass to just make it the rest of the season. As far as I’m concerned, Smith is the closer. He’s been dominant.
Snag the trophy, weld it to the hood of the lead tour bus for the ride to Oaktown next week.
The Giant in that trophy cartoon looks like John Montefusco on steroids. Love the nicknames. Stricknyne. Wrongo. Wrongoria. Smargerine. Won’t get those anywhere else.
I didn’t watch it but followed the dancing dots on my phone. I saw bases loaded no outs. Pretty tough odds. Wow for Moronta.
I think it’s supposed to be posey and the other guy is supposed to be Kris Davis
Or maybe Jose canseco for some reason
Are they even missing Musclehead?…
His return makes Dyson expendable.
Moronta saved Bochy’s bacon again. Bochy is going towards full-on Dusty mode, pulling starters late. Bum didn’t have much the whole game, he got by pretty much on guile, not stuff. Bum really has not had great stuff since his return, that concerns me, but apparently nobody else…
What’s gonna concern me is if they extend this guy to another 100 mil. Don’t underestimate how much the front office this this guy and probably also think the fans would revolt if they let him walk
That should say “loves this guy”. I’m on my phone. At the mall. Outside of a Forever 21 store praying my daughter doesn’t need me to come in for any reason
The struggle is real.
I feel your pain with forever 21 and Pink and Vicky’s secret.
Been there, done that with my daughter many moons ago, thank goodness that ship has sailed….
I said exactly the same thing last night, snarkk, so count me as one who sees the same thing. Bum has not been sharp at all since his return and was clearly laboring the whole way last night.
Yeah, Bumgarner was clearly fatigued last night. Maybe he needs to run the bleachers or something. When Strickland returns he should go back to the set up roll with Smith as closer imo.
I hope it’s not fatigue. Shit this guy should have been running wind sprints 24/7 when he was on the DL. What the fuck was he doing?
With a maximum fb that’s declining more energy is expended to maint an average fb in the 90-92 range and fatigue sets in earlier in the game.
He looks very fit to me. I’m just holding out hope that he’s still in some kind of extended spring training.
And loss of a bit on his FB could end up being no big deal if he can mix pitches, hit the corners, keep the ball down, etc. (think Maddux).
Or Pettitte…
Or the very underrated, almost forgotten, Jerry Koosman…
No friggin’ way in a baseball logical sense that SF should give Bum some long, expensive extension. As soon as they sign it, he’s got a good shot at going off a performance cliff, like Cain. By end this season, he’ll have pitched 1600 MLB innings, and if healthy, around 1800 by end 2019 when he’s a FA. If they want to reward him, sign him to some kind of 20-year Bobby Bo or Bruce Sutter deal where he gets his cash over a long retirement, but doesn’t hamstring the team’s current salary structure under the greatly feared current LTLL (Lux Tax Limit Line), the de facto GM. It’s not Sabes’ fault that Bum signed a deal that was Giants-friendly, and they used the savings to pay Samardzxxx $90 million over 5 years to stink it up…
Other than the earthquake, I remember almost nothing about the ’89 World Series. I completely missed Game 4 while playing with a softball team that night.
I remember domination. Utter domination. The highlight of the ’89 season was the NLCS.
“Domination” is one of the best Pantera songs.
I’ll spare you the video…
Thanks, Xoot!!!
That’ll keep me out of the barber’s chair for at least another year…
The future of big contracts for anybody in MLB will never be like it used to be. Sabermetrics has hugely altered that.
Everyone’s curious to see if Harper and Machado can buck the trend. They won’t get what people a year ago thought those two would be getting.
It’s laughable now that some people were talking about $400 million for Harper.
He’ll probably get 8 years/$240 million, and even that is an overpay.
Red Sox win on a walk-off grand slam. Pretty magical season they’re having.
It’s only magical if it ends in a championship.
Truth
Pretty well-done photo-shop.

Dump trumpity dumpty. 😜
Let’s beat these chumps, again, because I would prefer to see that chessy-assed trophy grace the confines of the Phone Park over the mausoleum.
1. Chase d’Arnaud (R) 3B
2. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
3. Andrew McCutchen (R) RF
4. Buster Posey (R) C
5. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
6. Gorkys Hernandez (R) LF
7. Steven Duggar (L) CF
8. Alen Hanson (S) 2B
9. Jeff Samardzija (R) P
Duggar and Hanson anyway.
Angels 3-0on the dogs. bottom of 2nd, Wood walked one in.
Course the LAAAs are giving it away.
dudes tugging on that trophy just look like musclehead crybabies. Stop tugging on it, go out and win the damn games
Did you hear the moronic way the trophy (that I love) will be awarded if they split the series?
No. Enlighten us, Loo. Inquiring minds must know.
If I would have told you in March that 96 games in these would be the stats, is there anyone who would believe the Giants would be 50-46 & 3 games out?
Posey – Pence – Panik combined: 9 HR/56 RBI
Bum – Cueto – Smardj combined W-L: 7-9
And I’m not even gonna mention the injuries and various other flops.
It’s a minor miracle.
DOMINATION!!!
Great stuff there Lo, and to answer your question, I would say HELL NO.
I am truly digging this team. Sure, they can be frustrating as all hell when they go on one of those four-game dives, where they score two runs over 36 or so innings.
On the pre-game they are showing the trophy again, and boy did they fuck that thing up by putting the NBC logo on it. Lame-ass shanty-town bullshit…
If they split the series, the trophy goes to the team that won the final game. Brilliant.
The NBC logo is the only thing wrong with the trophy.
Otherwise it’s awesome!
Agree on the awesomeness, minus the logo.
in case you missed it last night. I still think it’s a little overrated, it’s easy to climb a wall with spikes on. Still, a great catch
First guy I remember doing that was Griffey Sr. at Yankee Stadium.
I think he tore a big gash in the padding…
Hellz yeah, robbed Jesse Barfield, who was absolutely incredulous after the play. Griffey must’ve run 40-50 feet before he ran up the wall and speared the ball, leaving that big tear in the wall. I was watching that game on the tube.
Shit, I missed the “Sr.” in your post! Forgot about this one. See below!
Jr’s old man could play some baseball!
Hey, Belt with the aggressive base running. WTF not this early in the game?…
I agree Snarkk! I can even support foolish baserunning if it is aggressive and puts some pressure on the defense.
Belt got lucky as hell on that throw…could have been hung out to dry…
WTF is this crap A’s hitting Giants 3X already with pitches in 10 innings?
Time later for some wildness by SF pitchers?…
How many guys are gonna get (Billy) beaned before we retaliate?
When did the A’s change their name to the Headhunters? They sure have hit a lot of our guys, maybe it’s time to remind them this is an NL park?
Buster could have 11 days of not catching if they rest him tomorrow and DH him in the 5 AL road games after the break…
Krukow: “Samardzija is just a gorilla out there mentally”
Is that a compliment?
Ha. I was wondering the same damned thing, Loo.
lol
Duggar showing-off the wheels…
Hideous throw by Cutch who also took an extra step…
Way to get that run back.
Boom. Got that run back…
Dude is fun to watch run, no doubt about that.
I got your back Hansen–stay aggressive!
Is it my imagination or have they thinned out or lightened up the annoying super-imposed strike zone box?
It seems much less intrusive lately…
maybe that’s why hanson doesn’t steal more. Got the rbi tho.
Hope all the OF legs stretched out looks like one of those nights from Smdrz.
Smargarine’s pitch selection:

yeah way too many of above tonite. Surprised they’ve stayed in the yard so far.
lulz
That was a great catch by Hamilton but he was fooled and took a lousy route to the ball. The thing about Griffey’s catch was how precise his read was. He read it, sprints to his spot and makes that ridiculous run up the wall to grab it at close to full speed.
Right on there, LJ. I just read that Junior and Senior would argue whose catch was better…
Double Duggar!
Duggar the Doubler…
Duggar is making himself right at home in the lineup and in CF.
Welcome back, Slater!
The kid is having him a time.
Short night for the Shark.
I so want to see at least a productive out from Slater….
And that is mo-bettah!
Slater!
Easy as that.
use more of petit as Stix used to say. Slater sighting, nice job.
Good to see you around again, John. WTF is a Flap Universe without a clown…
Once you go clown, there ain’t ever a frown. 🙂 Cheers, Chi.
Hey Chi– did you appreciate our boy Gorks trying to lay down a bunt on ball 3–while ahead in the count 2-0!
Bout time for a bomb from Belt. Have to look up the last one, just seems like a while.
How ’bout a water shot?
Shit call.
Yep..bullshit call on Belt…
Last bomb from Belt was June 28, 50+ ABs ago. He hit 2 in entire month of june, none so far in July.
That’s how it seems to go with him.
Didn’t he also have his appendix removed in June?
yes Dawg. He had that one AB June 1 and came out, didn’t get back til June 16.
May he hit .314 with 5 bombs. june after he got back he hit .226 with 2 bomb .680 OPS.
OPS for July still .800.
Yep. He was out from 6/2 thru 6/15…
WTF
Good for Belt–I only wish he would have gone off while up at the plate, got his money’s worth, and then got run.
the new and improved Brandon Belt is a fiery guy. He was absolutely right, not even close. Down side, of course, is obvious tonight. But he’ll be back. And he has smacked the ball off the bricks in RF recently. He’s still swinging well.
man what a difference a pitcher makes.
Good for Belt. He’s a different guy since that vagecitis surgery.
Mike Matheny fired.
wow
Wow, that’s a pretty rash move for the normally conservative Cards.
Matheny sucks. I’ve said so for years. He finally lost the clubhouse, ownership had to can him. Looking forward to Daniel’s next blog post about this
Matheny can dream about this…

didn’t they re sign him to extension a year ago? Daniel generally stuck up for him but didn’t always seem to have his heart in it especially when it came to pen mgmt.
Holland is painting tonight.
Love the part where the am/pm clerk tells Toomgis “its perfectly normal” to start growing facial hair.
Man, i would love to be in the room planning the next Toomgis commercial. I thnk I could have been a decent ad guy. I used to love the way 30 Something portrayed that business. Seemed accurate to me, but who knows.
Shiot. What’d I miss? Smarglebargle out? Belt tossed? Slater’s IN?!? With Duggar?Be still my heart!!
Oh shit, there Pence.
Belt got tossed for arguing a horrible check swing call. Samardzija sucked from the first pitch, and Duggar’s just gettin’ ‘er done. Slater too.
For once Bochy didn’t wait too long to pull his starter.
Smargle isn’t Bummie. Or Cain . Or Timmy.
Thanks for the update LJ
fuck.
They used to call that a “room service fastball”…
About as no-doubter as you can get.
Should have hit that fucker. Time to drill some of these guys.
Fuck, step away for a minute and it’s 4-3!
Second straight shaky outing by Watson.
