#strandedinOakland
And now my flappin’ friends, we resume the exciting pursuit of the Break Even Trophy. I still can’t get over the tie breaker. Whoever wins last gets it. What are we teaching our kids with this silly rule? You don’t have to win the most, just make goddamn sure you win the last. If the series somehow ends 3-3 they should have one of those bridge workers laser cut a hole in the side of the bridge and weld that bitch in there until next season when hopefully sanity takes over and the trophy is awarded when one team wins the majority of the games in the season series…..
Hot take and I believe this gentleman sets Cove Chatter straight….
Panik and Strick can’t see how Giants miss either of them.
Panik is hitting .240 with .654 OPS. He hit 3 bomb in first 5 games and 1 since. .165 vs. LHP. I thought the power alleys and night games at ATT screwed him but he’s hitting .223 on the road this year. D is fine but Giants can only afford so many non contributing D first players.
Strick can be easily replaced. time to see what offers he’d get once he gets back. Might have to wait till off season but still.
I can’t figure out Panik.
He’s got a repeatable, flat swing that has always looked like he should hit .320. Hasn’t happened…
Rowand had a repeatable swing, too. I think Panik is what he is, he’s just a guy
He ain’t that guy, IMO. What I think he is, is a plus defender who has hit .270 lifetime, and I don’t see that going up, markedly. He has also averaged around 10 HRs and 60 RBI per year.
ouch
Panik probably would not generate much in a trade, so the big reason would be to deal him before FA pushes up his salary. Hanson bumps his defense a bit, he can play second. Energy level between the two is a Grand Canyon wide…
Panik has two years of arbitration left, and has almost no trade value, so I doubt you see him moved anytime soon.
Giants will make a move or two. Won’t amount to much given lux tax. Unless they crater the upcoming game schedule before end July, then maybe something consequential happens…
This SFGiantsGuy on The Twitter is spot on in his assessment imo. At best the club will do some sort of BP add or try to get some prospects. The club could live with Panik’s sloth like speed if he was hitting bombs. Problem is that Hanson is outpacing him in HRs in less at bats and brings more all around talent. I said at the beginning of the year that the club was probably hoping Belt and Panik would post good numbers so one of them could be moved. Other than 2 more controllable years, I don’t see why anyone would want Panik and I don’t know how they can move Belt.
Luigi Rodriguez, just promoted to AA, doubled twice and had three hits yesterday. Concussion cloud might be lifting for Williamson who doubled and homered for the second consecutive day.
We gotta get this Luigi dude on the squad just for the name alone
For sure. Dude was hitting over.400 before cratering to .300 and getting promoted to AA.
more *adding on* from within
Slater will be on the Sac-train. It should be Pence, but that’s not going to happen, of course.
Pence has hit some booming grounders lately so pencil him in the lineup for the duration.
If the Giants even took back 90% of Pence’s remaining salary for the season, would anybody take him? They’d have to do a trade where the other team takes his whole salary, and Giants give up a really decent minor league arm – like Actionless, only better prospect. 2 months left of his salary is still 1/3 x $18 million = $6 million. Sheezus. Otherwise, for lux tax room, why trade Pence if you take back most of his salary?…
Whit Merrifield KC 2B controllable contract is being discussed. Royals probably want players we don’t have. RH hitter, has pop and speed. .292 lifetime avg..
he’d be fine. Like a faster Robby Thompson
Dribblers are Pence’s specialty, even the fielder gets pissed off at a player that can’t make decent contact and hits spinning tops at him..

Put a twenty dollar gold piece on my watch chain
The gang’ll know I died standing pat”

A father and his teenage son have a sports talk show called Baseball and the Boss (Springsteen),on WMRW, a community radio station in Warren Vermont. Kurt is a Red Sox fan, the dad, Mets. So they ask their listening audience (me, Don’s drinking buddy, Mike, and Kurt’s little league teammate Jason. Oh and Nicole, who has a big crush on both father and son) what potential trades Red Sox should make.
I call in and tell them I only care about the Giants, but maybe we can help both. Pedroia is hurt, they need LH relief. I suggest Panik for Heath Embree and prospects. Tell the Kid, after the Crawford for Giolito fiasco on KNBR, he’ll have to take care of things from his end.
Don suggested the Red Sox and Guants by getting Brad Hand.
Ryder Jones sighting
CF S. Duggar (L)
2B A. Hanson (B)
RF A. McCutchen (R)
SS B. Crawford (L)
C B. Posey (R)
1B P. Sandoval (B)
3B R. Jones (L)
DH N. Hundley (R)
LF G. Hernández (R)
This explains Belt’s absence:
And the Hipster is back behind the plate.
Ryder Jones at 3rd? When did he come back?
He may have never left.
That’s how holograms operate…
lulz
BTW, what’s the deal with Jimmy G out in public in Bev Hills on a porn date, and apparently a “B” porn star, at that. I would imagine that’s not a real plus for his endorsement profile, nor makes the Niners too happy. Chuck, got any inside dope?…
Jimmy wants to be president someday.
I noticed a pic of that porn star. I don’t see anything “B” about her.
I could give a damn who he dates/fucks…it is all about what he does on the gridiron, IMO. Curious how Niner brass sees it.
The 8th anniversary of the Donnie Two Trips game is today, according to Jon Miller. What a fine game that was. Lincecum pretty much got shelled in LA and things looked bleak, but nobody on the Giants quit, including Bochy. I’ve always considered that to be the defining game of 2010. They may have been in 4th place, but they weren’t giving up. The record this year so far fairly resembles 2010 . . . .
took a look at BBRef. Anybody remember Denny Bautista? He appeared in 31 games for the Giants in 2010, including the two-trips masterwork.
Pitcher, right?
yes
Nope – and I probably saw all 31…
Man, don;’ know about the porn star except that she’s 41. And has about 14 years of work under her, uh, belt.
That’s a lot of tape left behind. But she was MILF Performer of the Year.
The Hipster did not swivel his hips at all on that RBI single to CF.
Dallas Braden looks like an extra from Fiddler On The Roof…
he talks like he thinks he’s Sonny Corleone.
when he was talking about Indians and acquiring Brad Hand for the penl he said, “Tito Francona…” uh dude he died earlier this year so he ain’t doing any more bullpen moves. His son Terry on the other hand might.
wow kid did something Belt hasn’t done in a while.
that was a great rip
Holo-bam!
Jonesy!
Rydsey!
ha one of my fav songs by Last Poets was “Jones coming down.”
Duggar steps out a lot ugh. lotta readjust the batting gloves like Nomar used to do. annoying.
Bonds (Barry) never ever left the box btw pitches.
Don’t go talking too loud, you’ll cause a landslide, Mr. Jones…
the AS break rest did Cutch some good
I could see him moving on this season.
The trade deadline ain’t what it used to be.
Plenty of deals go down afterwards with that waiver thing…
I like him, despite his diminishing skill. He’s a great one. And his combination of professional discipline and good humor reminds me of Jerry Rice.
A good dude – no doubt…
yes couple nice sliding grabs and near bomb off top of the wall. Just expected more.
In the box he is the calmest guy I’ve ever seen.
Sando again! fosse and the other kuip just talking about how Jackson can give them more good innings, lol.
CC Ryder . . .
Pablito!! Yeah, baby! Using the long ball after the break. The rest did them good . . .
thumbs up
Pablo’s return — what a tale. He’s a great back up 3B/1B PH and god knows what. And somehow he manages to roar this year without hotdogging at all.
so this is your house chump and you popped out to Sando.
the mountain dominates Oak again.
Yes! the Familia highlight I was looking for. I could watch this one all night.
That was a fun homer.
If it’s all the same to you guys, I may start referring to Pudge Jr as “Sport”…
that’s a doom-saying nick-name move, man
Sport gets his brains blown out in that one. Maybe not the best nickname.
Giants beating A’s at their own game with bombs by Ryder and Pablo.
The Braidy Bunts…
OK Boch calls for small ball and Hanson gets the bunt down, job well done.
See how this pays off.
that oughta do. Nicely done Cutch!
Craw!
Crawford is way overdue…his last month brings new meaning to the Mendoza line…
You have a 4 run lead thro strikes, Melancin not good
That is just all kinds of fucked-up seeing Williams in an A”s uni.
Ha, I thought the same thing.
Melancon got the job done, but he inspires zero confidence in my and hasn’t since he returned. There were some rockets hit in that inning.
Ever since he has been here he has been no better than an average pitcher, and the Giants paid him $$$
One lucky hit that should have been a single if Gorks wasn’t standing there watching it and a walk he didn’t deserve.
Weak pop out to Cutch, inning over strands the runner on 3b.
one at em ball to 3b and a flyball to Cutch well within park. Hey trust your D. guy gets a lot of undeserved grief imo. I don’t care what he makes that btw giants bean counters and his agent.
Hey Longo, take your time in Sac.
We want the trophy!
Regardless of what happens tomorrow, if they win Sunday, they win the trophy (on that chessy-assed tie-breaker).
Ballgame! Always love seeing our boys beat the A’s!
Good game. That one works for me.
Canha grounds weakly to Sando unassisted out game over S T F U
Oh Man! That steely, steampunk statue is within OUR grasp.
That’s something I rarely do, use a collective pronoun for a Giants’ accomplishment, but even the players probably don’t care about the BBS or if they do it’s because they’re slumping and think BBS is a nudie magazine for connoisseurs of big butts and stomachs..
If the series ends in a tie, the trophy should remain with the the team that won it last year.
The BBS might not be only trophy Oakland takes home this year. There are bags full of positive buzz about this movie.
Nice win.
This Rodriguez kid is turning into a real find.
Props to the SF front office for picking up this kid…
