A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Baseball in Seattle

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 24, 2018

Hate to have to move on from *The Masterpiece* thread but we do have a game today. I don’t like playing AL ball but we play who’s on the schedule so….

By the way, here is the trinket I uncovered yesterday during the excavation that’s going on at my house right now. As I said last night, the perfect place for this is hanging in San Dawg’s RV so that’s where it’s headed.

Autographed early Cinderella photo. I’m assuming this was 1985 or so and I have no recollection of getting the band to sign this but here it is 30+ years later….

The ONLY way fast tracking Bart makes sense is to lose Posey somehow.

Yesterday I was going through a bunch of concert tickets I’ve saved over the years. Each ticket triggers different memories.
Of course, nowadays, you often don’t even get an actual ticket. You can just download a sheet of paper on your computer. It’s instantaneous; that’s cool. But I have a nostalgic fondness for actual tickets.

    • gianthead's avatar gianthead said, on July 24, 2018 at 12:00 pm

Here here but it has been couple years since I actually went to a venue to buy a ticket…just too convenient ordering online and printing it. Just saw Arcade Fire Friday…awesome show. Only half filled amphitheatre surprisingly. The XX this week..

    • chipower9's avatar chipower9 said, on July 24, 2018 at 12:12 pm

I collect my concert tix, too. For those concerts on which I bought a ticket online, and printed the sheet for entrance, I go to the box office and ask them to print a ticket. Most can and will do so. Also, when ordering online, if there is a “pick-up at box office” option, I do that, and this gets you an old-school ticket.

Buster leaves on his own terms in my book. Put Bart in LF if he is ready quickly with a major league bat.
Posting Cinderella photo in Harvey may be a tough sell for me to my co-owner, but I think I can get it done. He still owes me one for turning our salad bowl into a urinal. (Long story)
If you think Cinderella is an awful band, give the tune Gypsy Road listen and tell me that is not a solid, simple bluesy rock song with a great riff.

Cards are paying Y Molina $20 mil this season at age 35 and the next 2. His last 3 yrs total of 6.5 WAR.
Posey by contrast last 3 over 15 WAR and he has double Molina’s value so far this year.
I happen to think STL did the right thing even if Yadi did issue them an ultimatum.
Cross the what to do with Posey bridge when they come to it; imo he’s least of their problems.

at some point you’d think Buster would WANT to leave the dish. I understand he prefers catching but he’s a smart guy you would think he would value the health of his body and playing more games at first base than struggling through season after season at catcher….

My company has number of locations in Seattle area and we often wound up there for mgmt meetings. These were often in the fall and it wasn’t uncommon for few days to not witness presence of the sun.
Summer months however were when the guys who lived there quite dug it. Weather there now is supposed to be about the same as San Jose, highs in 80s lows high 50s.

we saw the chihully museum which was very cool. But right next to it was (still is?) the Hendrix theatre, something I would liked to have seen too.

  8. willedav's avatar willedav said, on July 24, 2018 at 11:41 am

I notice posey being more involved this year, talking to pitchers more and to the other players on the mound once coach or mgr has left. there is such heightened involvement on every single pitch being the C. Maybe that is what drives guys to play the position and stick with it so long as opposed to position players who stand around all the time.

Lot of noise every day on MLBTR about Z Britton and various teams that might be after him. He hasn’t been elite in a while and coming off major injury.
Watson on other hand has been pretty solid this year, did well for LA after coming from Pirates last year and unlike Britton not a rental. Giants owe him $7 mil for next year with option. Teams like braves phils stros etc in the mix so couldn’t Watson bring back a decent player and or prospect, right now?

I don’t think they are in the sell mode now. If anything, I believe they are trying to shop Smardj to free up money to go get the pieces they want/feel they need.

SBNation: The Giants should trade with the Reds and get Adam Duvall
You might not realize this, but there is a very vocal, very strange faction of Giants fans who complain about the Adam Duvall trade all the time. He’s having a miserable offensive season, but he fits the Giants’ luxury-tax aspirations, and his power and defense make him a strong-buy low candidate.
And it would make things quieter around here.

    • Lurker John's avatar Lurker John said, on July 24, 2018 at 3:04 pm

They should implement a unified DH rule for ALL interleague games, maybe intraleague too, during the upcoming CBA negotiations. Starting pitchers always bat for themselves, after the 5th inning, you can put in a designated pinch hitter in the pitcher’s spot.

Drumpf is known to have a blocked number in his Drumpf Tower office, which is where he was that day, just a floor above the meeting. Were any of those calls you made to blocked numbers to your father? “I don’t know”. The committee did not go further and subpoena phone records to find the ID of the blocked numbers…

FB has a recap rather quickly, it’s more comprehensive, and it’s edited fairly well. Actually, baseball is gaining popularity in China, but of course you can’t get Facebook in China. Also seeing some signs of life for baseball here in Vietnam, nice.

That is cool, that baseball is catching on in more Asian countries. It’s good for the game if you ask me.

Mike Blowers, color man on M’s TV, “Tomlinson was late on the previous fastballs then finally caught up to one.” Bullshit, he was all over everything in that at bat. What an idiot.

you’re right he fouled that last one at 94 straight back off the catcher’s mask.

Shit, just saw the lineup posted , uh up.

This has ti be the weirdest in recent memory. Slater, Duggar, AND Specs? Be still my heart. Pence is the only downer.

Clark Kent getting it done tonight.

Regarding Willie’s 8:14, Bochy did not seem too optimistic about Longo being back by the weekend. Swing away, Specs!

    • willedav's avatar willedav said, on July 24, 2018 at 8:25 pm

I’ve liked a lot of guys over the years that kinda sucked. It’s not gonna be easy for Specs to get a lot of PT but he is fun to watch. good glove too.

My sons and I attended the Barry Bonds birthday game in 2003. It was a great game.

Denard Span no outs with the bases juiced — this is like a nightmare from a David Lynch film.

  59. willedav's avatar willedav said, on July 24, 2018 at 8:26 pm

Suarez seems to have one bad inning where he just loses it. Limit the damage here.

  60. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on July 24, 2018 at 8:26 pm

so much for that shutdown inning. And Old Man Span is up.

  67. xoot's avatar xoot said, on July 24, 2018 at 8:28 pm

there’s no legit argument against it, let Slater and Duggar play the OF

  68. Lurker John's avatar Lurker John said, on July 24, 2018 at 8:29 pm

Suarez has just lost it. Zunino is an awful hitter, but Slater picked Suarez up. Great play.

Slater looks pretty comfortable out there in LF now. He’s obviously been working on his defensive game.
