Season Slipping Away
Melatonin doing his best to put the season to sleep last night. The Giants really should be able to beat the Brewers. They’ve been playing over their head all season. And the fact the win went to that stupid fucking racist bitch Hader made the loss that much harder to swallow.
MadBum tonight. Again, this is a good spot for him. Will his command continue to elude him?
put me to sleep last night. Giants remind me of a team I helped coach for a few years that played spring b-ball tourneys. They were bad and then got to mediocre, which felt good. Getting from mediocre to the top was lot harder. What it took was a improved roster maturity and finding a system that worked and getting everyone to buy in and stick to the plan instead of going off in their own separate direction
Giants are going to have to make better decisions to improve the roster. Encouraging signs this year sure, but ways to go to match talent grit and competence level of those above them. You watch some of the teams they’ve played lately and think wow I’d love to have player(s) like that.
If they don’t pickup a legit power hitting cleanup guy they will continue to struggle. Teams aren’t afraid of their LU with 10-15 Homer guys..
I was lucky that I had a 6 AM spin class this morning, which meant I had to take my ass to bed early. Last I saw was 2-2 with Moranta on the bump…and it looks like it was all downhill from there.
Will be interesting to see if Bum can find his mojo sometime during the remainder of the season.
They have to switch roles with Moronta ,dudes been light outs in most of his innings, he needs to pitch in the 7-8 innings atleast and Melonoma only when their getting blown out..
Yeah, Melonhead was toast before he got warmed up. And there’s nothing worse than cold toast . . .
Then again, football season is almost here! Barring injuries, I think the Niners have a solid chance to win 10-11 games. That may not get them in the playoffs though. The NFC is much much tougher than the AFC right now and there are 8-9 teams that could win 10+ games.
Who on this 25 man would you miss if he got traded?
Me? Duggar, Slater, Hanson. Only because they are new, I don’t know where they are headed in terms of upside. Moronta, Rodriguez, Suarez. The rest, I wouldn’t miss any of ’em…
Until Evans is shown the door, this team will not improve much. He’s a mediocre GM on his best days. The fact that Sabean appears to be signing off on his moves doesn’t give me much confidence in him either. Gut the front office, send Bochy off into the sunset with a ‘fare thee well’ and ‘thanks for the memories’ then start bringing in some young, hungry talent. This is an aging, boring baseball team. If they keep this up, they’re really going to start feeling it in terms of attendance and sales.
one of the problems, and Baer has made many millions of dollars off this angle, is the connection the fans have to the players. Pence, Bumgarner, Posey, Crawford, Belt….man, the season ticket holders love these fuckers. Especially the women. Baer isn’t going to change shit as long as the season ticket holders keep buying tix and all the merchandise with those players faces on them.
We saw a glipse of this in the KNBR poll I posted the other night. Even when a *bevy* of prospects were offered in that ficticious trade there were 60% of Giants fans who voted down traded Bum. Imagine what the vote would be if the offer was much less than a *bevy*
The bevy of no trade and limited trade contracts is a big part of this as well. IMO even a bigger issue than the sentimental ties. ( BTW, count me among those sentimental fans. If they traded Buster or Bum, I’d be fucking pissed)
Bottom of the 8th 2 out your fastest guy on 1st (Hanson) as Boch is sipping on a cup of wine 🍷 won’t send him.And of course Craw gets a hit down the line which would of tied it up but Hanson can only get to 3rd,with his bromance boy Pence up next obviously not gonna get it done.. Maddening as as a Flapper late in the game and this team has no cojones to be aggressive..
Guys on KNBR this morning actually had a good description of fans last night watching/listening to the brand of ball Giants play: anesthetized…
We’re 4.5 games out of the Wild Card and some of you want waive the white flag? Fuck that. I KNOW we have problems and the playoffs are a longshot, but i want to see this thing through with this roster. Sneak into the tourney and who knows what might happen.
PS Had lunch at Red’s today while running an errand into the city. That place is still damn solid in my book.
Exactly how I feel SanD. No way they should blow this thing up. And everything I have heard from Giants brass is that if they can create some financial space they’ll be buyers.
They couldn’t blow it up even if they wanted to. They’ll do mini blow-ups each year as contracts expire.
It’ll take years to see a drastically different group out there…
Who’s waving the white flag? 4.5 games out is great, but this 2 steps forward and 1 step back shit ain’t getting it done. Arguing otherwise is stupid. Until they can start stringing together some wins and keep doing it, they’re going to remain at least 4.5 games back. The offense has been a joke of late and it’s killing them.
No, but we are teetering on the edge of falling into last place. No one is hitting. With even shitty hitting we should have 4 more wins coming out of the break. As it is, they are treading water, but losing the ability to keep their heads above the water.
And it’s the fact that Bochy is sitting on his hands waiting for the home run that never comes. We rarely run, move runners, bunt, or do anything other than swing swing swing. To hell with manufacturing runs. Let’s go one base at a time. Also, trotting out Punter Hence and Smargle is spitting in the face of the players that are actually playing decently. Slater can’t buy 3 days in a row, but Pence’s leash is 3 miles long.
That more than anything pisses me of about this team. Sure we are better than last year. We lost 98 fucking games last year. Pretty hard to repeat that and be up against the Goddamn Lux cap. We are the Phillies of 2013. bloated and floundering.
Charlie – Teetering on the edge of falling into last place, IMO, doesn’t mean shit if you’re within striking distance of a playoff spot. I’m with SanDog on this on. Fuck it…put the pedal to the metal and go for it. Plus, the team has not shown they want to quit…they’re still battling.
They’re not putting the pedal to the metal, that’s the whole point! It’s August in 4 days, chi! “Bloated and floundering” is a pretty apt description.
1. Steven Duggar (L) CF
2. Alen Hanson (S) 2B
3. Andrew McCutchen (R) RF
4. Buster Posey (R) C
5. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
6. Evan Longoria (R) 3B
7. Pablo Sandoval (S) 1B
8. Gorkys Hernandez (R) LF
9. Madison Bumgarner (R) P
thx Loo. that’s about as un honky as Giants are gonna get.
I think just the other night McCutchen was the only non-caucasian in the starting LU…
I think the guys giants should get some input from are the Phils scouting/development group. They regularly start like 6 of 8 position guys(mostly young) that are either AfAm or latin, and the weakest most maligned starter is the honky SS Kingery.
The Phightins are way ahead in the rebuild process and lead the East with 58-44. Far removed from the Amaro days they must be doing something right.
For inspiration, the Giants look to a Kinks song:
This is your chance, this is your time
So don’t throw it away
You can have your day
Time to get something going here. A double with no out is a start.
Double Barrel!
Honky power!
Crawford might’ve hurt himself on that crash landing at second…
Guess he’s ok. Never thought he’d tag on Yelich…
Typical shit.
Not enough juice…
gorks having an awful July…shit must be wearing off.
coming into tonite hitting .213 July with .566 OPS and 1 bomb…Pence numbers.
We all know the Giants aren’t going to *blow this thing up*, no matter what happens the rest of this season, but I’m at least a bit heartened thinking that at least the outfield will likely be completely different next year, manned with the likes of Slater, Duggar, and Mac plus I’ll bet 1 or 2 new younger players, and minus Pence, Cutch and likely Gorks. That alone seems promising, if (big “if”) these younger guys actually have enough talent… which needs to be determined by playing them as much as possible the rest of this season….
Thumbs up.
Whether they win the sweepstakes is one thing, but everything I have read says the Giants will make a hard run at Harper.
Well, that would certainly provide a nice new outfield piece…. I’m still not sure he would actually want to come to SF, though… .
They’ll probably offer just enough to make it look like they’re involved, but not enough to get him…
Yeah, kinda like with Stanton, et al…
Dr. Gorkys in the house. A little more juice and dat ball woulda been outta here.
Dumbass Gorkys too busy fiddling with his fuckin’ oven mitt almost got himself picked off…
Saw this posted on FB…
I hung a Mark Malanceon poster on my Bedroom Door and now it won’t close…!😜😕😩 WILD THING YOU WALK EVERYTHING !
I’m not able to see this game, just wondering, how does Bum look? His numbers look great so far….
Tell ya in a minute…
dealing man. Fastball at 92, off speed under command. In a little trouble here in 6th see if he can get out of it.
Talent aside, Duggar taking 3 steps out of the box and readjusting the batting gloves after every freaking pitch bugs me. He spends more time out of the batter box than in it.
sign of the times tho nobody has buzzed him…yet.
Fuck. They should have walked Braun to set up the DP. Wake the fuck up Bochy…
Nobody up in the bullpen?
Oops, guess I spoke too soon about Bum……..
You know, I’d feel immediately better if Bochy would just retire already. I can’t justify that, I’ve just been thinking it for about 3 years now, fair or not…. Just time for some new blood and new thinking and new big-headedness…
I could be wrong, but the Giants just don’t look like they have much fun playing baseball these days. It’s like they have the weight of the world on their shoulders. I think they feel the shadow of the 3-in-5, and it makes them feel like underachievers.
It’s hard to have fun when they can’t score any runs.
Yeah, well said.
Bum finally pitching a decent game, and no fucking offense to set him up for the W. He’s getting Cained…
Bochy late with the hook….again.
They wouldn’t need the hook if they scored some damned runs. Bum has pitched well enough to win. This is on the lack of offense, not Bum, IMO.
I pretty much agree; I just thought bringing in a righty to face Braun would have been a decent move.
But if the Giants can’t score, it doesn’t matter anyway.
Inspiring inning so far..
2 straight blowing cheese by hitters!
Oh wait a Duggar gets one thru, turning my rally cap over!!
Rally cap starting to work!Way to Hanson!
Fuck!
Sl(hip)ping away.
The lack of run-scoring is mind-numbing. Look at the batting averages of today’s lineup, and the numbers are not horrible… Pablo Longo and Cutch around .250, everyone else well above that. Lack of power severely hurts. When the youngsters play, they seem to inject life into the game, and even look like they’re having fun. But yeah, Mac, if they don’t score, then it looks like the fun quickly dissipates….
Theirs just a lot of suckitude going on with these guys..
The field looks like shit, but I guess it matches the Giants performances lately..
Incredible that they would allow that to happen to their home field during the season..
$$$
Says something about ownership.
You allow a friggin rugby match in the middle of the season to F up the field?
They need the money from that? Ridiculous…
Funny, I said the same thing last weekend and was regaled with tales of how exciting 7-man rugby is.
I don’t think the severity had sunk in here yet, LJ…
Same ‘ol, same ‘ol…
Can’t friggin hit, can’t score.
Put the A’s position players on the Giants and they’re at a .580 clip…
If they go 81-81, that’s a 17 game improvement from 2017.
By some standards, that’s impressive…
That was fucking pathetic. Pfffttt…
Yep, this team is doing the slow post-AS break Pfffffffttttttttt …
Heading towards seller status…
Seller or cellar?
Miller summed it up perfectly…”The Offense is just not there!”
4 days to get a deal for Bum…
It’s hard to take this team seriously as a contender, and not just because they’re back under .500. Just about all the NL teams ahead of them have made big moves in pursuit of a playoff spot, while all the Giants can do is fret over staying under the luxury tax. Loo makes a good point that this team is much-improved from a year ago, and that’s good, but the end result will still be the same: No playoffs.
He’s right and so are you. they’ll likely cut the L’s from 98 to low 80s.
Getting down to low 70s is gonna be a lot harder.
The lux tax shit bugs me, tho I know everyone is doing it. Giants are an f-ing gold mine. This isn’t the Stoneham days.
The term “couldn’t be better” takes on a whole new meaning.

Had Enough
No more bad news
I’ve had enough of the blues
Glad I missed this one.
Just when I thought I finally made it
I found myself back where I started from
I hate to say I’m giving up but . . . .
the great Merle Haggard
When the music’s over . . .
Turn out the lights
Turn out the lights
Turn out the lights
I know LJ mentioned it but I never noticed the missing patches in the field until last night. Has any of press said anything about how the yard looks or is quiet being kept under orders from ownership? Thoughts?
As Mac reported Mous to Brewers. on the B/R WC standings Giants have 6 teams to climb over to get past AZ. All of the top 5 teams in NL (LA CHI PHIl yada yada) have added players at deadline—the guy AZ picked up, IF Escobar from Twins has 15HRs and 63 rbis…both of those figures would lead the Giants.
Same with Cabrera from Mets to Philly: 18 HR, 58 RBI.
