I wouldn’t want to be Sabean or Evans right now. There isn’t a trade out there that could possibly get this team to start playing above .500 regularly. And they don’t have the bullets to fire anyway. They should be sellers but they can’t trade Bum because they think the fanbase would revolt. They’re probably looking at trying to get a guy like Dozier who would be a classic pick up for SF but he’s not going to move the needle enough to make a difference.

Here’s what’s going to happen: nothing is going to happen.

Watching Newcomb lose his no hitter with 2 outs in the 9th reminded me of 1990. I was in my mom’s kitchen on Tennyson Ave in Palo Alto making a triple decker salami sando listening to Scotty Garrelts try to close out his no no vs the Reds. With 2 outs someone (Eric Davis maybe?) lined a clean hit into the outfield and that was it. I screamed out *motherfuck!!!!!!!* and slumped to the ground. Got up. Ate my sando.

I was listening to 95.7 the Game on my short drive home from work and the guys were talking about the over/under on the number of plate appearances for Pence. The other guy said “100”. I nearly drove into a tree. I put it at 25.

Then again, Melonhead should be banished to the hinterlands of Stockton yet he pitches on and blows games.\

Seriously, dudes.
There are multiple arms in the Pen ready to go to hold the 8th with a one run lead, but Bochy goes to Melancon for the 3rd straight time after two massive fails in that same situation just before. In NY, Boston, Chicago, maybe even LA, Bochy gets crucified for that move. Here? Probably Bupkus from the media. I really want a new manager next year. That is insane managing…

  Unfortunately, this team isn’t going anywhere anyway, but Bochy isn’t helping. Also, any *new and improved* younger team next year also is likely not going anywhere with Bochy at the helm. He’s done, man, he should just retire. Glory Days were great but they are gone.

  Black looks strong and smooth, but his injury history suggests that he may not continue so well. Moronta, on the other hand, looks like he’s going to throw his arm into the stands with every pitch, but he seems to be getting better. In any event, for now they’re both good. Best we’ve seen in the pen for a while.

One thing I read that blew me away was that Holland leads the club in Ks and IP. I have all season long thought the dude was invaluable, but this really cements it. He is also a proponent of keeping the club together for the stretch this year and going for it. He has to get some serious consideration for the Willie Mac award, IMO.
