Rooster Coop Quiet, Empty
The only thing that sucks about last night is that the Nick Hundley hit had a chance to rank right up there with the Brian Johnson bomb (well, below it but up there) but with our dire place in the standings it’s just a nice win against a team we all hate. And there’s nothing wrong with that. Fun win.
Also wasted this year: Nick Hundley. This guy has been so important to so many wins this year. He’s the type of grizzled vet Bochy loves and he’s been the back up catcher we’ve literally never had. It’s just too bad we aren’t going to get to see some magical moments from him in the post season.
FUCK! That’s a fuck of mixed feelings!
One of joy for seeing that we beat the fucking bums’ asses.
The other a bit of agony for not seeing it.
I came home yesterday. Splitting headache, scratchy throat, a bit of a cough, etc. Took a couple of aspirin after dinner and headed to bed with our boys trailing 1-0.
Damn…sure hate missing these types of games, especially when it was Opie against Big Country.
Cock a Doodle Do motherfucker…where oh where might that rooster be?
Hella W last night, great game. gotta see more of Black who was awesome.
giants(especially minus Craw) aren’t going to outslug teams so they have to have pitching like that. I have less problem watching a low scoring torture game even in an L than I do an SP getting lit up for 3 run bomb early and putting team in hole they can’t climb out of.
Suarez last 5 starts–1-3 with 7.43 ERA. Is he burnt?
Vs. Wood, slop thrower who seems to baffle Giants. Not having as good a year as last year, with ERA up almost a run and giving up more hits and striking out fewer guys.
One good sign—he’s only pitched 17 innings last 3 starts so maybe that gives SF longer look at Roberts managing his pen. Lay off the off speed slop in the dirt and make him throw strikes!
In my eyes, this year has been a smashing success. I believe I predicted 82 wins for this team. If I had known about all the injuries and sub-par seasons, I would have predicted somewhere around 67 wins. Somehow, we are on track to still hit 82 and that is incredible. I think Bochy/Evans/Sabes deserve a lot of credit for that. Plus, we have given an extended look to a lot of young players along the way. I know it took longer than we all wanted, but Pence is pretty much buried on the bench at this point. No way in hell did I think we’d see this much of Duggar and Slater. I mean, its 3/4 through the season and we’re 5 games back. That is pretty amazing.
Hard to argue with that, SanDog. I have been hard on Evans, and still cannot give him a pass. Look at the names who were available as FA OFers the last off-season, and we ended up with Austin fucking Jackson. Looks like Joey Bart may be the real deal…but only time will tell. Outside of Evans getting credit, solid post.
Just want to thank Dave for not even considering Opie for the 9th. Brilliant.
Got that right Chuck!
No way we pull that game outta of are ass if Opie was still in there ..
Thanks Dave!!
Man, checked-out the box, and after seeing the Giant’s line, thought well, “Bum got fucked/Cained, again.” Then I saw the bum’s box score. Kershaw REALLY got fucked. Agree with Charlie on Robert’s swing and miss on going to the pen in the 9th. Atta babe!
Fun to read the comments along with the box score. Lotta fun to beat the bums. I’m back at Garvey’s to get out of the Galway rain and have a pint. Seems the owner is a Mets fan. The TVs show mlb games every evening. Nice place.
This is in Ireland?
Right next to Eyre Square
Same question as LJ. Galway as in the city in Ireland? Safe travels and happy trails, Mike. Tip a pint for me!
Oh yeah—Ireland. And I’ll do that Chi!
Kershaw was at 110 pitches, so I can see why he took him out, given his recent history of injuries.
with all of the injuries, this year has exceeded expectations. It’s still disappointing to have such a terrible offense.
I don’t recall Rooster making any appearances here all season, not that I’ve read every single post. The sting of the World Series chokage must be lingering. Last night certainly won’t help.
He made a cameo appearance when they got Machado.
It was basically ignored.
He’s a good dude and knows his stuff, but if he’s only going to show up when things are going well for his Bums, then why indulge it?
I keep hearing this Bryce Harper nonsense on the radio.
Yes, the Gyros need a power hitter, hell, they need more than one.
But, why would you pay outrageous coin to get a LEFT handed one, even if he agreed to sign, which there is no chance. ATT is death to left handed power hitters not named Bonds. You need a right handed one…
100% agree. And that dude doesn’t seem to handle the shift too well. If it doesn’t go out he’s not worth much
Last night was so much fun, lets do it again.
The Giant is alive.
A’s are 37-12 in last 49. That’s pretty good, and they don’t have very good starting staff…
The A’s are one of the best repesentions of the direction MLB is going with pitching staffs (focus on guys who can get you through the rotation twice and hand it to the bullpen). In that world, having a staff loaded with overpriced aces just doesn’t play.
Speaking of the fucking A’s…they have won three while the Stros have dropped their last four. A’s two games back of Houston…
Problem with this team is their lack of emotion, their dugout is like a morgue “DEAD” but atleast last night I dug the shit out of Hundley not only the key hit but he Freakin went ballistic in a good way High 5’s to every player on the bench, they need a lot more of that out of the rest of the corpses..
It’s the honky factor. Pablo needs to be in the dugout.
Someone mentioned Panik and platooning; I’m sure he’s not digging it. D’Arnaud played some SS last night and Hanson isn’t near as dangerous hitting RH.
Panik homered twice in LA start of season (and only has couple since unfortunately) so wonder if he gets any starts next couple days. Also wonder how 2b plays out offseason. wouldn’t be surprised Panik gives them the play me or trade me ultimatum. He’s a really good 2b, and having off year at the plate. How many off year at the plate guys can Giants afford to keep around?
San Dawg, the main reason we are still close is the rest of the west isn’t running away from us. Any other division, we’d be 8 to 23 games out of first.
I also can’t call what the front office did good because our big acquisitions have been meh to awful. Cutch is doing zip, Longo is shit, MINAJ is already vaporized. Throw in Melonhead and Smargle and you have 5 signiongs that flat hurt the team. Some of us were saying before the year to play Slater and Duggar and let the chips fall, but nope, we have those albatrosses around our necks (minus Cutch) for years.
Bochy should get credit for keeping these guys going despite all the injuries and weirdness, but even he has had a lot of brain farts this season.
D-Rod was found money. Dumpster dives like Dyson and Smith have worked out, Hanson has been great, and even D’Arnaud has helped, but those guys were all gotten on the cheap. The splashy signings are the ones that are crippling the team.
Yes to the splashy signings overall sucking, but they do get credit for the dumpster dives, etc. too. Evans gets a failing grade, IMO. And yes, Bochy has done pretty damned good considering the hand he was dealt, but he has had quite a few instances of being asleep at the wheel.
I will say, I’m very glad they have basically hologrammed Pence. He’s’ beyond awful.
Gorkys is also found money. He was zip last year and he’s priven to be solid.
And a birthday shout out to John Brodie! 83 today. My favorite QB as a kid.
If you have 16 minutes to kill, check this out. I was at this game. South end zone where the final TD was scored with 25 seconds left. It put us into the playoffs in 1972. We all know the tragedy that befell the Niners (and he who shall not be named) the next game . . . Brodie should be in the HOF . . .
very cool thx man. Vikes had cool team and the tough D line; always liked Tarkenton. Great unis and helmets back in the day.
Of course the Chiefs manhandled them in SB IV…
Chuck, my dad was a CHP and worked the Saturday Stanford football games a lot. He would get a friend and me these ribbon field passes for the games. The first time I saw Brody he was a Sophomore. My friend knew of him and coined the phrase “Blooper-boy Brody”. For a Blooper-boy he sure went a long way. Great Niner.
Last nite I went to bed stoned and quite drunk for me and turned on the TV just after the Giants tied it in the 9th. Then watched “thunderstruck” as they keep hitting and scoring runs. Cannot believe Gorko. Better test him. I know, I have given up this year- -but still watch- -and come here. (Sick?)
Stick around, Seal.
You should know by now anything’s possible…
If you are sick, what about the rest of us?
Sick? Fuck that! I am sick and TIRED of our pathetic offense.
Hey, Belt is coming back tonight! Don’t worry about the fact it usually takes him a week to get back on track.
If the Giants really want to get rid of McCutchen, I have to think Cleveland is now on their speed dial.
That infers new technology. I think they are still on rotary phones.
Hell the Giants still use “Fred Flintstone Carved out lettering and have a prehistoric bird fly it out” to other GM’s”
Interesting that not one of us has brought up the possibility of acquiring someone to help the team right now.
The Giants are in the middle of a pennant race in spite of themselves…
True, I know they could strengthen multiple areas but I’m at a loss on what position they would/could trade for right now. I guess depending on Crawford’s concussion test, they might be in the market for some backup there,
Does Belt come back today? If so, who goes?
They would first have to dump some salary, if the prerogative is to remain under the tax threshold. Sending Cutch back to the Bucs while they were in town would have fit the bill.
Casey Kelly sounds like the guy to me..
He was just a call up from Sac, Kat. Everyone remembers Cody Ross, but guys like Nady and Byrd were picked up after the deadline to help out. Are the Giants even rumored to be looking at anyone?
1. Andrew McCutchen (R) RF
2. Chase d’Arnaud (R) 2B
3. Buster Posey (R) 1B
4. Evan Longoria (R) 3B
5. Nick Hundley (R) C
6. Austin Slater (R) LF
7. Steven Duggar (L) CF
8. Alen Hanson (S) SS
9. Andrew Suarez (L) P
On paper this team would struggle in Triple A…
Hanson at short is gonna be a hoot. Over/Under on errors is 1.5.
When the Pads traded Adrian Gonzalez, the 2 big pieces they got back were Anthony Rizzo and Casey Kelley. Rizzo was awful in a short stint for San Diego, so they traded him to the Cubs for Andrew Cashner.
Yeah………..that whole episode didn’t work out too well for them.
Slater & Duggar combined: 228 PA – 1 HR
Still better than Pence under the Fence. A day without Pence is like a day without hemorrhoids.
Great video, Chuck, thanks for posting that. I remember listening to that game on the radio with my dad. 7 turnovers! 7! Unbelievable that they won.
I seem to remember another big game, a playoff game, in which the Niners coughed the ball up 6 times, including 3 picks by Joe Cool. That one turned out a lot better than the ’72 NFC title game. You just don’t win very often with turnover numbers like that.
I should’ve said the ’72 Division game.
One of the Astros beat writers mentioned Cutch as a viable option, especially if they continue to miss the bats of Altuve and Springer.
Astros have talent in that farm system.
Cutch for a decent outfield prospect.
Make it so…
Agree..
Yep. I have talked about a deal for some of that Astro OF talent the last couple of years. I might begin to have some faith in Evans if he pulled off something like that.
Chuck—the Niner video is cool! Love a piano being on the sidelines next to where Brodie was warming up.
Anybody hear that recorded interview with McCutchen on Marty Lurie’s pre-game show last Sunday? He mentioned clearly that he had and still is having problems in RF at ATT. Just seemed like he was not with it out there, and sounded like he has little confidence out there. His D sure reflects that. Plus, he said something like his wife and recent baby meet him on roadies? No details of how that works, but that’s clearly what’s happening. How is that working for focus on the road? I just think this guy is not all here and is cashing checks. Not much evidence other than that, and his play on the field. But, criminy, nobody will miss his play much if he’s gone soon…
Ditto to Pence as well, just cashing checks for Lexi and wasting a roster spot till the very end..
FWIW, I think Cutch leads the team in Runs & RBIS…
With this squad, that could be considered an ambiguous achievement…
But you don’t trade that in the middle of a pennant race that no one seems to notice they’re in…
Never liked Steve Spurrier!
He couldn’t throw worth shit, his passes always fluttered like he was throwing knuckleballs. Hell even George Mira threw a lot better tight passes then Spurrier!
Brodie was very underrated, guy had plenty of guts, should be in the HOF put up good numbers on usually shit teams..
I liked Brodie, too, but head to head against Roman Gabriel, it seemed like he was about 2-10…
Roman was great in his appearance on Gilligan’s Island as a visiting Pacific Islander. I believe his lines consisted of Hut, Hut, Hut-Hut !…
Brodie was before my time, but the very first professional golf tournament I ever attended was the Senior Tour stop at Silverado in the early nineties. I had just taken up golf in high school and the first golfer I saw hit a Drive was John Brodie. I still remember being in awe of his effortless power. I followed him around a couple holes and he was extremely hospitable to the crowd. I had him autograph my program, and would also get Lee Trevino’s signature later in the round. I am sure my parents threw it out along with many other cool sports momentos that I had collected as a kid.
Not sure about Cutch’s effort on Turner’s hit. I replayed it several times. Still not sure.
I did the same. It wasn’t great. Miller did everything but come out and say he made a poor effort.
It’s looking more and more like Suarez is outta gas…
The last few starts he just hasn’t had it….
Nice easy 1-2-3-4-5-6 inning…
Nothing like having a high stress inning to start the game. I think Suarez could use a confidence boost,, say a 4 run lead type boost.
The longer he’s been up with SF, the harder it seems for him to get outs…
Suarez looks like Steph Curry — he must be good. Panik and Suarez, how could they not be good?
I have no idea who these Dodger TV announcers are. They’re pretty straight forward…
Possibly Joe Davis and Garciaparra or Hershiser?
Does Garciaparra pause after each time he talks into the mike to adjust his speaking gloves?…
Ha!
Time for a big hit from this non-descript fuck…
To which non-descript fuck were you referring?
I was thinking the same question ! …
Pick one…
With the Giants you have to get more specific.
Not really, because there are so many possible candidates….
Nice aggressive AB by Hanson in the 8 hole to get an RBI…
I still wouldn’t give Puig a fastball unless it’s eye level or at his ankles…
In his ear would be ok with me..
I thought the same thing, kat.
1, 2. 3, easy as dat.
More runs, please…
Top of the odor…
Make up call…
Like him or not, Cutch absolutely got hosed on that call.
If they aren’t going to have robot plate umps, how about 2 ball/strike protests per game. No repeats, just two whether you win or lose the protest. So, on a leadoff deal like that one, Giants could protest the strike 3 call using the K zone or whatever the tech is. Or, if you’ve got bases loaded and you throw a strike that’s called a ball, you protest to stop from walking in the run….
I vote not only for the robots, but enforcement of the strike zone as written in the rule book.
nothing will ever touch his angry rant about that pitcher last year but he gets it going here pretty good about half way through
A tumbler or two of bourbon will fix that.
Cheap bourbon, for this dude…
lol, no doubt. Or some pussy. He’s been quite clear about the fact that he’s never been laid and that has to wear on this motherfucker.
That’s gone in Yankee Stadium…
So is Turner’s double…
Both of ’em.
Yup!
That dude is a freakin nutcase!
Then again if he’s was a Giant fan, he would be like the rest of us screaming at are TV 📺 às we can’t fucking do squat with the bags full and no outs!!!! Fuck he’s got me ranting now!!
As K&K Would say well they really battled up there!! Fuck the battle cry “Score some fuckin runs!!!”
Time to get Suarez some more confidence. We need runs.
Never been laid? Say what? No wonder he’s so angry. Speaking of getting laid, we should be pounding Wood.
His best shot of getting laid is probably with his mom in her basement he lives in..
Lol 😂
Oooooh. This ump has an ameoeba-like strike zone, but I’ll take it.
Suarez, like Blach works fast when no one’s on base.
Get it and throw it…
I was in some zzzzs last night falling asleep to the game (thankfully one of the few games I have seen on tv this year) and literally waking back up with Slater down 0-2 and runners on the corner…I hate these true bums from the Lesser Half…Jansen’s injury has exposed their weakness…
Hanson has handled himself so far.
Get 2 or 3. This can’t go 1-0 forever.
Nice quick inning, got his pitch count under control.
Hey! Southbound with a hit. Love to see Cutch drive one.
He was overmatched.
He walked up to the plate like he’d just been roused from a coma…
I’m really starting to dislike that motherfucker…
Shit Suarez showing some wheels..
Suarez had a terrible slide at second base. Hope he’s not hurt.
Hundley came so close to hitting a 2-run HR. Would have been a game-changer.
Which honky didn’t understand “I got it!”…
Somehow, I think she’s not going to threaten Sinatra for legendary status…
Duggar was sayin “I got it on the last blast to dead left as well”
Hoooooooooooooooo that was close. more runs please.
Don’t get me screaming at the walls like Chris…
Suarez seems to be doing okay, so maybe I just need more runs for more confidence.
Wow. That was fun. Buster looked clueless.
Suarez has settled in to pitch his ass off.
More runs, Giants.
Else this one has the look of a Doghair bottom 8th or 9th comeback win…
Still and all, get the pen going now,
This ump has a giant zone.
Have we hit a m=home run in August?
MLB stats says 6 in August.
That, as Flemm would say, ranks 15th out of 15 teams in the NL.
LA has 22 …
I think I remember Duggar and Hundley. Is that it?
and Crawford…
Longo (2), McCutchen (2), Craw (1), Duggar (1) …
Cutch has 2 homers this month?
Yes…
huh?
Good question.
Get the pen going
Come on Southbound
LA leads the NL with 164 dingers.
SF has 107 …
they are also third in runs second in slugging and OPS
and they’ve scored 1 run in 15 innings vs. Giants pitching.
So F em. You pitch well you can beat them, bombs or not.
