Whaaaaaaat?
The Dodgers were -220 last night. I thought that was off, my line would have been closer to -400. Anyway, I thought that was free money. Thank God California still hasn’t yet installed legal betting on sports…..
Our pitching continues to shock and awe me. Sprinkle in one of those thingy’s that go over the fence (Belt did one, I forget what those are called) and we win a game no one thought we could win.
Every Bum start is critical. He needs to build and sustain his value. If I’m Zaidi I am on the phone every day trying to trade this guy….
The team played a solid game last night. Today I’d like to see them drill that punk, Verdugo just for showing his inner Puig last night.
I know it’s early, but I’d still like to see our flurry of trades, our plan Bs to landing Harper, Joe, Reed and Kratz get batting averages in these games.
Much as I’d hate to see it, perfect landing spot for Bum would be….Oakland. they need a post season ace with bona fide rep. They’re probably gonna be in WC and have to face either Boston or Yanks, likely back there. This did them in last year, they haven’t done much about it and still have rotation cobbled together with mediocrity and kids coming back from injury.
And bevy of ML ready prospects to choose from that would help SF right now.
good point. And with Z at the helm now maybe Beane would do a deal with SF
And trading Bum for Andujar now off the board…bring Clint Frazier on down.
Btw, love last sentence in thread, “If I’m Z I’m on the phone every day trying to trade this guy.” Um, only question would be, how many current Giants would it apply to?
Sort of interesting how the company line has changed on Belt. No longer a big vag – he’s a funny guy, even keeled and good in the clubhouse!
Picked up Pillar. This is a very good move by Zaidi. He’s a legit CF. Dugger-like defense but a better hitter. Finally, Zaidi steps up! He gave up shit, too!
Not seeing the hitting. He’s RH, but career OPS .692.
This is ZMan’s MO.
He’ll be running guys in and out, up and down, all season.
He’s an accumulator. Start with a pen, keep making moves, end up with a Mazerati.
It’ll take more than one season, though. End 2019 maybe you’ve got a used Yugo…
He’ll hit here, trust me. He’s right handed, he’s got a shit load of speed, he’ll be better than what we have. I’ll take that.
Kevin Piillar, come on down. Goodbye Randy Hansen and Derek Law. Thank God Reed or Joe get a bus ticket to Sacto.
Pillar’s mediocre batting numbers are legendary around this outfield.
Bochy’s head is on a swivel with all these moves.
I’m loving this stuff.
How long do you think ZMan would have put up with Gorkys as a starting CFer?…
lol
I’ll take this compared to SabEvans sitting on their hands trotting out Gorkys, Parker, Span, Pence, etc. day after mind-numbing day…
Dats some crazy shit right dere.
Sitting like in the bleachers on this blog , I got to say I can’t remember the last time in 2018 this team came from behind to win in the late innings. But this was sweet. To me it tells SPs and pen to hang in and the offense could have its back and not always feel they have to put zeros up there.
With a little more chemistry and confidence maybe the offense can compliment a surprising pitching staff.
You don’t have to remind me it’s 5 games in; but it was a long winter of wondering if truth be told if we were going to see another disaster year; but beating LA last night was a very tiny flame of hope.
Giants having a little fire in the belly when I come to see them once each vs Yankees and LA and enjoy the fan atmosphere for my 70th would be priceless.
So what happened to this Kevin Pillar guy?
Had a 4 year run with Toronto getting AB’s showed pop 16&15 HR seasons, then last year 1-16 .063? Hurt? lost his job?
AK, look at his stats again, i.e., those stats you listed are this season.
I don’t think Harper understands some basic concepts of integrity. He was quoted this week as saying that he never was going to play on the West Coast, that he much prefers playing on the East Coast. So he used the Giants as a bargaining chip, I get that, but all that stuff he said about how cool it would be to play for the Giants was just a bunch of B.S. Then he trashed the West Coast in general this week. It would be hard to respect that guy. It’s not going to be a big surprise if the Phils end up really regretting that deal.
He’s a millennial. And he’s wealthy as fuck. He says whatever he wants whenever it crosses his mind and never looks back to see how ridiculous it sounds to everyone else. Because it doesn’t really matter to him. I[m sure he meant all that shit at the time he wrote it, But in the end, he went for the money. He played the Giants (and others) to drive up the price to get to the place where he stood to hit the most home runs.
He can blather all he wants because he’s worth millions. But if we had a short porch like Philly, he would have come.
If the money was right.
Connor Joe shoiuld start looking over his shoulder.
His stance is worse than Rowland!!
Didn’t realize today was b-day of great Memphis born trumpeter Booker Little, who unfortunately left us at age 23, dead from uremia I read, back in 1961. Announcer at jazz station I listen to just played his version of Bee Tee’s Minor Plea, just beautiful, Didn’t have time to leave a lot of recorded material but I am fortunate to have some, mostly with Eric Dolphy, another one who passed far too soon.
Two greats and a couple of favs.

Mac (under) the knife can learn a thing or two from Pillar. He can run into walls without getting hurt.
Will he be here in time for tonight’s game? God, I hope so.
That’s really the essence of the Dodgers’ problem. They do pound a lot of pitchers during the regular season, but the Dodger hitters also tend to be all or nothing, especially in the playoffs, when they are facing nothing but quality pitching. Great pitching does continue to shut down great hitting, usually. That’s still a golden truth of baseball. A problem for the Dodgers in the playoffs, and the World Series, is that they just don’t match up yet with the great pitching of the best teams. Kershaw’s strange highs and lows in particular have really hurt the Dodgers. But there are many other cases of implosions by Dodger pitching.
The Giants had such dominant pitching in the championship runs of ’10, ’12, and ’14, especially in the bullpen. As years go on I only appreciate more and more what all those pitchers did. The bullpen, even if it had its occasional struggles during the season, were lights-out in the playoffs. And there were all kinds of heroic starting pitching performances throughout those runs.
Listened to a clip on KNBR of Pillar crying his way out of town in Toronto. Eh, that’s cool. Shows he cares I guess. Hey, this dude isn’t going to be some savior but he makes us better, that’s all I’m looking for right now.
Looks like a decent pick up on paper anyway…
He’s from West Hills, CA…
If his mother had a TV in her womb, he could’ve seen the Dodgers win their last WS…
lol, solid fucking gold my man
I see Andrew Susac got traded from the O’s to the Royals, didn’t know that guy was still playing. That’s who the Giants traded (along with Phil Bickford) to the Brewers for Will Smith.
Bickford, a former first round pick (ouch), but at least the Giants eventually got something decent for him in trade. The Brewers no doubt wish they had Smith back.
In the 2015 draft, the Giants chose Bickford with the 18th pick of the draft, and then with the 24th pick, the Dodgers selected Buehler.
Although, to be fair, Bickford is still only 23, so who knows what will happen with his career.
he’s just the absolute worst at this….
Fun to see Harper getting relentlessly booed in DC.
He obliges with 2 k’s so far.
Say hello to Pilley
I think Brett Pill already owns that one, Chuck…
Pillary?
Based on stats, presumably a Pillar/Duggar platoon.
not happening.
Pillar is no better than Gregor or Gorkys then.
that’s silly. He’ll end up being your second favorite player. Just watch.
Hmmm, maybe a little Billy Hamilton irrationality at play here?
No problem saying goodbye to Law to bring Pillar, but kinda bummed Hanson is gone. He was fun to watch last season and certainly didn’t seem any worse than anyone else on the team….
I liked Hanson.
Fast, fast, fast.
The glove was a problem, but he created some havoc on the base paths, pressured the defense.
Nobody else does that…
Had some power, too…
Pillar will do all of that…..
Bum’s really nibbling.
Hanson did have some power puling the ball, unfortunately only from left side where Giants are already overloaded. I’d have been fine with Hanson/Solarte platoon at 2b. would have helped to un honkify the team a bit more too.
I’m fine with this trade for Pillar.Hanson though showed some glimpses of promise, will probably end up forgettable Goober for sure and the prospect.
Pillar has a track record, some power, some speed, and a go after attitude in the outfield! We dumped 3 players of a list of many we could,do anytime we can find a sucker it’s a bonus! Giants won this trade hands down imo..
Was it necessary to give Cain’s number to Joe of all people?
No big deal I guess when you consider the legacy of disrespect to #22…
Looks like it might be an early night for Bum.
BadBum.
That was a killer salami..
Pillar just announced his retirement…
April fools?
Not the same Bum…cant throw strikes consistently led to the mess…
Belli-bomb. That high strike that wasn’t called cost a bundle of runs.
Bum is getting squeezed, but his stuff isn’t very good tonight.
Jesus. Walk Ryu after the throwing error? Then the grannie?
Bumstock slipping a bit.
Flemm practically blamed Belt for not saving Bum’s bad throw. Can you assume a first baseman is to always save the fielder’s mistakes? I didn’t see it, just heard it…
Especially on an 0-3 count to the pitcher? That gets called a strike 99 out of a hundy
Are you watching the game in a mirror?
Ha! Yeah, I’ll use that!
I would rather watch Sarah Connor bat then Connor Joe!!
Giants may try to trade Bum a year too late…
Can’t freaking walk the pitcher. EVER I think over last 10 years we must lead MLB in that.
Reed is not a major league hitter. Duggar and Pillar should both play. See if Duggar can hit ML pitching. Reed not the answer.
Giants staff seems to often be very good at giving up the 0-2 hit, too…
They DFA’d Reed and not Connor Joe??? Get rid of both…who signed Cheesy Mac???
So now Joe’s to blame for the grand slam? I guess Krukow hasn’t seen Joe throw either.
By far our best hitter…
Better then Joe, Loo?
Maybe the Yanks can use him for their batting lineup.
The Bumster going Yard!
MadBomb. I think those are the first runs the Giants have scored directly off a starting pitcher.
Didn’t see the play. Was Bum;s throw bad? They did give the error to him.
HAlf time of the Dubs ame and I juuuust caught the bum bomb.
With the disproportionate number of lefties SF will face, Longoria and Posey need to produce. The latter, especially, looks Timmy washed up to me right now.
I don’t think you can bat Longoria and Posey back to back in the lineup. They’re pretty feeble so far.
It’s kinda hard to avoid back-to-back feebleness with this lineup.
Agree Joe&Reed scared the shit out of no pitchers..
They had a camera shot of how shallow the Dodger outfield was playing Posey. That was sad. Being a catcher beat up his body. We have to wonder what he has left.
Teams were doing that last year.
How much more suffering do we have to endure watching a Joe Blow’s at bat…
These dumpster dives by Farhan have proven to be as bad as we thought. Pillar is a little bit hopeful. At least he’s a bona fide big leaguer.
Well, back to the Warrior game. Pfffffft. Vincent Black Shadow seems like he has to give up a double to the first guy he sees every outing,
What in the wide wide world of sports is going on here?
Duggar is playing his way to Sacto as well.
Stupid play by Duggar giving up an extra bag..
Pillar fits right in with that K..
Hey, he’s got jet-lag. 🙂
Now Longoria gets a hit.
At least Gyros making the Doghairs sweat a little…
None of those close pitches have been a strike. Good for the ump.
Hey Now !…
Damm sweet comeback going on..
Janzen is hanging by a thread.
So, thanks Pablo, for swinging at the first thing you saw into a DP to end the game…
Damn.
Duggar’s mistake ends up being big in this game.
And just like that a DP to end it!! Oh well get em tomorrow…
Damn. Signs of life anyway. Pablo hit that hard. Too hard it turns out.
Now that I think about it Duggar’s fuckup didn’t do anything,
Correct.
The team is showing some life.
Yeah much better than life support at this time..
Still need to do something about Connor Joe from Kokomo.
I was thinking Thank god when they pinth hit for Joe. Panik no better. Ball down at 1st. Never a 2 strike take. Sigh. Mad them sweat vs rolling over. Posey is making me sad. No threat. I wait for him to do nothing so i can get to the next batter…
Yeah, Posey is proving to be nearly worthless i hate to say. 5 HRs may be out of reach for him.
