A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Chasing Misery

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on April 8, 2019

What a sleepless night it must have been for Count Chocula, eh? He’s 3 more Chris Davis failures from getting off the hook. Of course, Velez made $400K back in 2011. Davis makes 23 million dollars a year. And he has 69 million more coming to him AFTER this season. With all due respect to the fat dollars Longoria makes, Chris Davis is the owner of the worst contract in baseball….

Let’s see what the Giants can do against Lauer tonight. Before yesterday’s game, Marty Lurie said he was *hopeful* about the offense. Then they got shutout again.

To put the Davis contract in perspective, I think we would all agree that at this point Buster Posey’s deal is awful. But he’s *only* making 22 million this year. And while he is owed 44 mil in 2020/2021 there is a 3 mil buyout in 2022, the same year Davis gets another 23 million….

So from that standpoint, Buster is looking like a bargain, aye?

Anyway, “Pura vida.”

I’m out for a bit….

Have fun, Flav. Great beaches out there. You gonna be near Manuel Antonio?

    • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on April 8, 2019 at 8:50 am

Love that place. Four buddies of mine and I were on the beach and you never, ever – all go in the water, without someone staying ashore. Why? If you do, the monkeys will steal your belongings.

Hah! We stayed in a hotel on the ridge overlooking the beach that was insane. $75.00 a night, and it was so nice. The Mariposa. wWe stayed in another hotel near the rainforest that had those Jesus lizards everywhere. Damn things were about 4 feet long and they could still run across the river that ran behind the hotel. And there were giant frogs everywhere as well.

They had a butterfly enclosure with like 500 butterflies in it. They were the size of dinner plates, and just insanely colored. We hiked 6 miles into the rainforest to see a huge waterfall, and saw shitloads of the poison dart frogs and a few sloths. Birds were everywhere. Man, what a blast. We drove all over the place. Didn’t see the volcano though. My daughters went there last year and went to Arenal.

        I absolutely love this picture.

Warriors nostalgia tour as last season in Oakland is cool, but one guy you still don’t hear much about is Bernard King who was flat out unstoppable in his time here. just saw stat that Nets DeAngelo Russell has had 10 30 pt games for them and is youngest to do it since King played for Nets 78-79. You match something he did it’s awesome.
Nice to see and hear some Sleepy Floyd highlights, cool player. Taking down LA in those days was awesome.

BF, 20 years ago I escorted my 20 year old surfer chick daughter to west coast of CR. Jaco, I believe, was the name of the town. great place to drink and hang out. SW crocs at least 20 feet long in nearby river. Watch out for the rivers by the coast. Have a drink for all of us.

    • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on April 8, 2019 at 11:13 am

Jaco is awesome. We stayed in the Eco-lodge there. Near where we hiked into the rainforest. The restaurant and lobby had no walls. Everything was wide open. There was a bridge over the river on the ocean where you could look down and see hundreds of alligators all swarming around going after fish. Crazy.

Tyler Austin from Minn/NYY. Dude has some RH pop anyway. 17 HRs in 268 ABs last year. That is enough to be Babe Ruth in this line up.

  9. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on April 8, 2019 at 11:17 am

I like the move. Connor Joe from Kokomo and Michael Reed are never going to do anything in the bigs. Pillar is looking like all glove-no hit, so we need power from somewhere other than Belt. Even Longo has cooled off.

At least it is better than the beginning of last week.

    • Locojuan's avatar Bozo said, on April 8, 2019 at 11:29 am

Hope you’re right, Unca. Still, if these are the planned moves Farhan had since last November, the plan B he mentioned when he didn’t get Harper, I have to wonder what plan C was.

      • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on April 8, 2019 at 11:45 am

I like the move in teh context that Reed/Joe absolutely suck and anyone would likely be better.

How these guys got om a starting roster is still baffling.

  10. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on April 8, 2019 at 11:22 am

    Posey and Crawford – 0 RBIs. Panik – 1 RBI. Longo – 2 RBIs.

Half of our starting line up has 3 RBIs. This is a BIG problem.

Meanwhile Bummis has 2 RBIs. Panda has 3. Duggar surprisingly has 5. Unsurprisingly Belt has 8.

  11. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on April 8, 2019 at 11:28 am

Is there any other org that has NO outfielders in its upper minor’s worth using? ZMan is Rolling dice with other orgs OFer castoffs because he knows the poor quality of SFs own potential castoffs. Mac the Oaf was supposed to be a starter. He ends up unclaimed off waivers and back in Sac. Now, if they even want to trade Bum for bats, they are in weak position unless they just put him up for auction to highest bidder with honesty that this is a lost season. Don’t wait to trade him till he hurts his arm or has a series of games where he gets hammered …

    • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on April 8, 2019 at 11:47 am

    • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on April 8, 2019 at 12:00 pm

Actually, he’s already been hammered (as I pointed out the other day). That pristine 1.38 ERA is a mirage, as 5 runs were taken off his ERA due to his own fielding error. IMO, they blew it by not getting rid of him a couple of seasons ago after his first injury . . . and will have probably definitely blown it by not getting rid of him during this off season. Wait and see. Also, his 1st 2 games were at pitchers yards. Wait until he hits Colorado, Arizona and the band boxes in the East.

  17. Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on April 8, 2019 at 2:44 pm

No reason to not go get Austin, again, essentially for shit. I bet Bobby Evans doesn’t even know who Pillar and Austin are. That’s the biggest and best difference for me so far. Zaidi is actively trying to make the team better. That’s all you can ask for in a GM. Evans would finish off a few signings in December and then sit on his hands for a year. Fuck that. I like what Zaidi is doing right now….

This is a great article about Michael Jordan’s attempt at playing baseball when he was 31. The author wrote a scathing piece for SI at the time where he mocked Jordan’s swing. Fast forward today, he thinks that if Jordan had stuck with it, he would have eventually succeeded and made the White Sox. However, this dude is a writer. What is more amazing is that baseball people who were intimately involved in Jordan’s experiment, say they he could have made it too, including his manager at the time, Terry Francona. Remember, this was when baseball went on strike, so he ultimately gave it up due to that strike, as well as his seemingly poor results. However, this article disputes those results . . . Anyway, if you get a chance, read the article. This is why I love baseball and understand when the Joes, Reeds, and Kratz’s of the world play the game. As one person points out, “one thing is certain. That summer did Jordan a world of good. “It was like a spiritual retreat” where he came back to basketball rejuvenated.

Bum was very outspoken about teams that don’t try to win NOW. Maybe he’s gone sour on the new mgmt because he sees the revolving door as not being serious about winning now. I don’t know, maybe. And maybe he’s actually angling for a trade. Not realizing that sucking is going to hinder said trade.

Have a great time in Costa Rica, Craig.

He could go 6-15/4.25 and still get 5/125 from someone as long as he’s healthy…

It’s just too long ago. Game has changed. I’d hoped he would retain enough value to piggyback on to a mid season haul but he’s just a guy now. He’s just a guy.
