Friday!
Fun lil’ diddy in Cincy this weekend. Small yard so that should fix our offense, right? Derby weekend so I am focused elsewhere. The weather will be bad again at Churchill. Right now, I am picking Improbable to win with War of Will right there, too (he is my best longshot pick of the race).
Beede getting the call tonight. It’s easy to see this not going well. I wonder if his new bride will capture the carnage and post it on twitter/insta?
It’s on all Giants pitchers to do better on the road and away from the O. Let’s see how much Beede has learned and how well he’s prepared himself for pitching at ML level. More pitching the better.
Rain at the Derby will mean some questionable weather in cincy…
Reds top prospect Nick Senzel, the #2 overall pick in 2016, will start in CF tonight in his MLB debut.
My two picks are, Roadster and the longshot, Master Fencer. No Cajun jockeys so going with two French dudes. Master Fencer is from Japan and with the threat of ending on someone’s hibachi, will be a running fool.
It seems to me that long ago I read that on-field changes can only happen in the off season. It makes sense since the fences could be changed after a certain team plays and leaves then could be changed back when they return. Hence, only changes allowed in off season.
OSF
Quick shout out to long lost Bass Baldy. A fellow jazz bassist he knew who played with great Art Blakey bands late ’50s to ’60s, Jymie Merritt, turns 93 today. If he reads this, hope B B is also alive and well too.
Wow quick look at B/R numbers, the Reds are sure different. they aren’t hitting at all, team BA .207 and dead last, worse than the giants. 12th in runs, 14th OB 13th OPS. Votto is at .733 OPS and Puig is hitting .211.
But, they have best pitching in the NL and have given up fewest bombs.
Run differential has them at plus 10, yet they are 13-18 after getting shutout yesterday by Syndegaard.
Hmm . . . band box no help. lqtm.
Only a matter of time before those Cinci HR numbers regress to the mean.
#1 HR park in all of baseball last year by the numbers.
Reds have played only 13 of their 31 games at home so far. I was hoping to see what their home stats were, but that stat wasn’t working when I tried to look it up on MLB’s web site.
Here’s park factors . . http://www.espn.com/mlb/stats/parkfactor
Cincy ahead of Snoracle, but not by much. Also, right now our park favors hitters, i.e., a rate higher than 1.000 favors the hitter. Below 1.000 favors the pitcher.
Wow, Oracle slightly favors hitters? And Wrigley doesn’t? I never thought Wrigley was a band box, but it is the worst hitter’s park? Wind musta been blowing in that day.
During the beginning of the season (in cold weather), the cold wind blows in more times than not. When it starts heating up, the wind blows out more times than not. So in other words, Wrigley will incrementally improve as a hitters park.
Gerber UP, baby! Parra DFA’ed. No Mac and cheese today.
The turnstile roster will continue all season, and it should, for a team and minor league system this bad…
SanDog’s fave…
In 21 games, Gerber has a .357 average, six homers and seven doubles. He has a 1.057 OPS, although he does have 27 strikeouts to just five walks.
Kratz may be on the fritz as well with Vogt coming.
Yep, Kratz to 10-day injured list.
Kratz to the 10 day DL with persistent symptoms of sucking.
Parra was a dumb idea from the start. An aging left handed bat, not longer at Coors field, forced to saw wood at Oracle? That plan never had a chance.
Gerber’s been consistently solid at every stop in his minor league career. He’s either going to transition to MLB or go full Bowker.
I like the moves!
Schulman’s tweets get interesting when he’s pissed off at someone. Just now he tried to straighten a guy out by blurting: Gerber’s a Zaidi guy, Mac isn’t.
That’s ridiculous (what Schulman said . . . not you Xoot). I think what someone said the other day about Mac’s lack of options, makes this a move that is better. I hope Mac gets an opportunity. Same deal for Reed (who I think is still on the roster, right?).
Regarding Kratz, I have seen him make some outstanding defensive plays. He also has had a couple of moments batting (I think he had a walk off hit). I mean let’s be serious – he’s doing no worse or better than most of our starters. Than can be said for Parra too.
Is Gerber in an option year?
I don’t think he is. From the merc’s story on the moves: “Gerber was claimed off waivers from the Tigers this winter and was taken off the 40-man roster when the club signed Drew Pomeranz on January 23. Gerber cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A, which allowed the Giants to keep him in the organization.”
Personally, I don’t think it matters which of the two gets called up first. Either one could be a bust and then clear waivers again on the way back down.
I don’t think so Xoot (or the Zaidi statement about Mac not having options makes zero sense, as it would apply to Gerber too).
I think Gerber and Mac are both out of options. Maybe Gerber has a better chance of clearing waivers if he gets sent back down; both of them cleared waivers earlier this year, however, when they got demoted.
Gerber looks surprised at the news:
hard to believe he’ll turn 27 in two months
Baby in the 2 hole…
1. Joe Panik (L) 2B
2. Mike Gerber (L) LF
3. Buster Posey (R) C
4. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
5. Evan Longoria (R) 3B
6. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
7. Kevin Pillar (R) CF
8. Steven Duggar (L) RF
9. Tyler Beede (R)
Free game of the day on MLB TV.
Avert your eyes…
Our starting infielders’ season WAR so far:
Craw: -0.3
Panik: -0.2
Longoria is rocking in positive territory with a 0.1 so far.
Posey: 0.3
Belt: 0.3
That combines for a 0.2. The whole group combined has been worth 1/5 of a win so far, according to WAR.
Fortunately, we have that stellar outfield…
lulz
Go, Baby, Go!
Goo goo gaa gaa!
Diaper dandy!
Put it on a tee, Beede…
Well, that went south in a hurry…..
if he doesn’t allow an earned run for the next 5 innings he’ll earn the distinction of a “quality start,” right? How did that “stat” ever gain traction.
I’m in the minority, but I like that stat. You go 6 innings and give up 3 runs, I think you did pretty good these days.
Eventually they’ll change it to 2 runs in 4 innings…
earned runs? Christ the start could be 8 to nothing after 6 and still be “quality”
Flemming says that based on exit velo and launch angle, Dietrich’s flyball had an expected batting average of .110
In SF, it probably would have dropped in front of Duggar for a single.
Cincy announcers are keying on the fact that we haven’t hit a bomb in the first 3 innings of any game this season. One smart ass announcer alluding to the rest of the league going on a homer barrage, said, “The Giants haven’t received the memo yet.”
Now I don’t know what’s going on and apparently neither does Schulman. He is regretting his stupid earlier tweet, however. I also don’t know why I enjoy that, but I do.
https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js
Schulman is the biggest pussy out there. Dude rat holed himself into the game, never says shit to rock the boat, I’m shocked he tweeted that out. He never does that.
I’ve seen him lately get irrational and aggressive on tweeter in response to sharp criticism.
Thanks for sharing!
Not good for Craw’s Error to RBI ratio…
No error charged on the play, which is fucking ridiculous.
Clank Crawford’s having a bad season. Man, I miss Omar. Jeezus. Beede’ll be back in Sactown by Sunday.
Touchdown, Cincinnati!
. . . and they make the 2 point conversion.
Beede beating.
This was so easy to see coming. Lol. No more beede please
Damn! Craw’s defense this season has been poor (I think that’s his 3rd or 4th muff).
Pffft! Dietrich 6 ribbies and 2 bombs. Unfrickingbelievable . . . and another double. Bye bye Beede.
One and done Beede..
“Dietrich and DiMaggio”
Name that tune…
Dietrich reminds me of Cody Ross. Carries himself like he’s a total superstar. Usually cracks me up.
Not so much tonight.
Longo with a .241 OBP. That Is so bad, it is just hard to believe. Play Pablo…
Beede might be the first guy to get DFA’ed while he’s still in a game…
Bochy on the phone with his cardiologist…
Flav, any of your DK LUs stacking a Cincy 3some or 4some?
Yes you can find me in 67th place in the $4 but I have a couple others (that also have Dietrich) with even more promise). Just search in the bar, you can find all my teams
Now 28th. But again, a couple other teams with Even more promise
Good luck! They all sound promising . . . I haven’t been playing the last couple of weeks (busy with trip details, damage to my home, and stock market).
Thanks. Well you can’t find my teams if u aren’t in the tourney. Maybe Wilco I’d on that one
Beede and Blach
Then ship ’em to Sac
Kuiper is funny. Beede “threw very well”, except for a few mistakes. And JFK’s visit to Dallas was a success except in Dealy Plaza…
I can’t stand Kuip, but I agree with him! He was throwing gas and made some good pitches. I want to see another start!
And the Titanic was running smoothly until it nudged an iceberg..
If you can get past the explosion and the flames it was actually a picture perfect landing…
There is your post if the season Flav. .
It did settle in very gently—like a butterfly with sore feet.
Was anybody harmed?????
Nah, just a few scratches and minor abrasions.
I understand there was some confusion at baggage claim…
BTW, this happened on Willie Mays’ 6th birthday.
Two days later War Admiral won the Derby…
The number of people on the ground, running, escaping, has always astonished me.
“miraculously 62 of the 97 passengers and crew survived”
The relatively small number of fatalities has always surprised me.
I already like Estes better than Lopez or Krukow.
Sf has lost 7 straight in Cincy, outscored 60:15 or thereabouts, I forgot the exact Cincy number…
MLB story asks 16 GMs who is most likely to be the big trade piece this summer, and MadBum was by far their choice. But just because they think that, it doesn’t mean any of them would actually do it. Or maybe it does. One said he thinks Giants will trade Bum by the 4th of July. Hmmm..
No PH?
Vincent and no idea why.
WTF?
How is none of this almost 3 year mess on the manager?
At this point, BamBam is probably HOPING they don’t hand this mess to him….
A lot of the second half 2016 and Cubs playoff loss was on Bochy. Since then, he’s had a decreasing amount of culpability with a Bad lineup. Nobody could manage this sorry ass 2019 edition to much success…
Excellent question loo. I think bochy is good when he can fiddle around with the bp. When his team sucks he’s, as they say, a minus WAR guy
Well, we may have ourselves a good backup C.
Pawlie is texting Don Taussig…
Panik is very determined to get his WAR into positive territory.
Holy Crap.
Remember the Twins game years ago when Bum got absolutely shelled and we came back? Don’t remember if we won, but I think we made it close.
I was already thinking about that game cuz back then it impressed us that Bum hung on the bench and supported his teammates after a horrific performance instead of retreating to the locker room, and Beede did the same tonight—which impressed me.
Only one game he played against the Twins SD . . . We lost 9-2. However, I have no doubt he stayed on the bench and supported his teammates.
Great pull Blade!
Jeez lit 🔥 up Bum for 8 runs in the 1st inning, you know he was fuming 😤 inside..
https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/SFN/SFN201106210.shtml
That’s definitely the game. Bum went a third of an inning and gave up 8 earned runs with no walks.
I thought we came back to make it interesting. Maybe we loaded the bases or something—work with me fellas!!
I bet Loo remembers that game. He was on the blog that night too.
Loo—you still there???
I vaguely remember it, SD, but here’s a little tidbit from the blog that day:

Bum high-fives Eli!
SanDawg said, on June 21, 2011 at 9:35 pm (Edit)
Please tell me that really happened! That is fucken cool if Bum hung around after getting his ass handed to him and gave poor Eli some love.

It’s true, Dawg. A great moment…
You’re the man behind the man, my friend.
What a pull
Vogt old school catcher mask, nice 👍
I had a bad feeling about Melanoma, but in fairness to him, that was an extremely lucky hit.
Duggar playing outstanding tonight. Must have raised his batting average by 50-60 points, and 3 ribbies.
Love Flemming for calling out what a shitty at bat that was by Solarte.
The only announcer we got with the guts to do that.
Yeah, idiotic AB by Solarte.
Belt showed how to take an AB with the bags loaded, and deliver.
I can see this Solarte dude not long for the squad…
The worst 2 scoring teams in the NL and they’ve combined for 20 runs. I doubt either of them have scored 20 runs in a week.
Damn! Come on Craw . . . sigh. That hurt.
Been meaning to ask this, but keep forgetting . . . Was Posey injured? Cincy announcers are only saying that he was fatigued, thus Vogt came in (and Vogt has been outstanding), but aren’t indicating an injury.
wow
yeah, we definitely have a good backup C now
About fucking time.
Vogt!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow Shot heard in Flap Nation!!
A bomb 💣 by Vogt to tie it up with 2 outs in the 9 th??
Unfucking real!!!
That was no cheapie either!!
What’s funny is that Vogt and Gray were teammates and friends when they were in Oakland. Gray was going for his 1st win in 5 or 6 outings. Pfffttt thanks to his buddy Vogt.
This is about as good as it will get this year, so enjoy it…
This is a game you have to win now in extra innings.Nuthin worse then hearing Boch say …Welllll we battled back, I’m proud of the guys Voghty really gave us a lift to tie it, but….
This guys pitching motion reminds me of Danny Darwin.
Loved me some Danny Darwin back in the day. He was pretty done when we got him though.
Solarte is a disgrace to Hac-Man’s # 26…
Well whaddya know, I get home and it’s extra innings.
Love my main man Moronta, but occasionally he has command issues.
Si,…
The things that don’t show up in box scores…
