#saladdays
When you talk about salad days, you’re talking about weekends like this one. I’m flying up to Portland tonight, Preakness tomorrow and then right after it me and BirdDog storm The Rose Garden—at least that’s what it was called when I was going to Lewis & Clark, not sure what they call it now.
I’ll finish cappin’ the Preakness by tomorrow am but right now I’m leaning towards Bourbon War as my top pick.
Giants in Arizona tonight. Smarge in the thin air, this might not work out too good….
The Rose Garden (great name) is now called the Moda Center (terrible name.)
Pfffttt. As we get older, everything, without question, gets worse.
Except for the whiskey.
Rose Garden was always sold out, “in front of 12.666” or something. The old unis and warm ups I thought were really cool, the black with red stripe across front to the waist, or red with black.
Fun fact: blazers 1-10 vs. GS in playoffs. See if Dame has enough Game to get another shot at one in Oakland.
I think that was the Memorial Coliseum that always had the 12,666.
Ha Mac always has the right answer. thx
Giants did pay Rays $1.1 mil of his salary for them to take Kratz off their hands in return for the dreaded PTBNL. Um, this is a development I could see applied to few others going forward.
Has anyone seen Altherr?
Btw, AZ does have a humidor. F/G did a study on this week or so ago and it does appear to have negative affect, if only slight.
Should be a blast to go to a game up there. Never been to Portland very much. Eugene a ton.
Pretty funny moment when Seth Curry passed the ball to Kantor, who was standing on the bench. Seth had a nice game tho. I think he was the only Blazer to score in the last 3:30.
yeah Seth had like 16, helped to balance McCollum and Lillard getting outscored 61-45 by Curry and Thompson.
Problem is with small LU and Leonard/Turner in there they can’t defend the other end. all the pick and rolls confused the rotations and Warriors got layups and lob dunks to guys wide open underneath the hoop
I missed most of it, but the Warriors must have had a lot of dunks and layups. Blazers outscored Warriors 54-27 on 3s — that’s usually more than enough to win — but Warriors made up for it by outscoring Blazers 66-40 on 2s. And only 1 blocked shot for the Blazers. So the difference was Warriors 21-17 on free throws. As you said yesterday, Curry (and Thompson) need to attack and get to the line, and Curry ended up 11-11.
Yeah, Looney killed Portland inside. He and Jerebko had 3 offensive rebounds each. 12 total. For all the 3s, the Warriors defense was stifling in the 3rd quarter to get the Dubs back in it after falling behind by 17 in the 2nd quarter. Bell had a pretty good game as well. Thompson had a weird game. 8-22 from the field. 4-8 on his 3s though. The usual solid D.
Sounds like an awesome weekend, Flav. Try and have ya some fun.
Posey returns and Duggar back in CF. What’s Pillar’s current FWAR?
2B Joe Panik L
CF S. Duggar L
C Buster Posey R
1B Brandon Belt L
3B P. Sandoval S
SS B. Crawford L
RF Kevin Pillar R
LF M. Williamson R
P J. Samardzija R
Good question. He still leads the team. I’d like to see a stolen bag or two tonight from him.
Keon Broxton anyone? Got DFA’d today.
I would take a flier for sure on Keon Broxton Dawg.
He has power 20 bombs with Brewers 2 years ago, has speed 54 career SB only 14 caught.Good fielder, does K to much and has only a career .216 avg but the upside and with nothing to lose is worth it imo..
Duggar gets back in CF. I like it.
I’m at a bar atSFO called “the San Francisco Giants clubhouse”. There are 16 TV’s on. Place is packed. Giants game is on one tv all the way in the corner
Plenty of craft brew places up there. 2 yrs ago we got tour of and dinner/beer at Widmer brewery, very cool.
what else are they watching—last night highlights maybe?
Dyson has career OPS of .669 in 2000 ABs. This season it’s at .800…hope that regresses to mean too starting this weekend.
How did AZ get 4 games over .500 after unloading all the guys they did?
Analytics or not sometimes things just work out. Dodgers traded Kemp and Puig to the Reds (who suck) then signed Pollock for $80 mil.
Pollock needs surgery and will be out for quite a while, not a surprise.
Meanwhile Pederson has 14 bombs already and .943 OPS, 330 points higher than Puig.
I stumbled onto a little something called Labatt’s Blue the other night looking for a cheap Tall Boy down by the beach. I thought it was outstanding.
Good stuff. Haven’t had that in years.
That was some Keith Hernandez shit right there.
Also why I like Belt staying at 1B.
Panda being selective, takes a four pitch walk. Has that ever happened before?
Bases juiced, come on Crawford.
Chance for Crawford to cause some damage here.
would have walked in a run.
Crawford sucks.
Pathetic Crawford’s got to have better swings there, every pitch was in the dirt..
Pfffftttt
Damn.
Yeah, walk this guy but don’t walk Goldilocks during the decade he molested us…
That 0.4 WAR is looking pretty good.
Yeah, we couldn’t use that guy.
Yeah Adam Jones RBI’s sure weren’t needed in SF I guess..
Smarj did his best to raise Jones’ WAR.
Rumor has it that the “brown acid” isn’t very good.
.His slugging was at .500 before he got to Smrdz.
I wonder how long of a leash Mac is gonna get.
Not looking so great right now.
Oh fuck Loo….that looks about right!
probably longer than Holland.
Krukow…Its rally time?
Isn’t that been all season long?
Maybe they should wear their caps inside out on to the field to start their games.
Jesus. At least Boch is getting his money’s worth. But really. How do 3 umps miss that?
Joe West crew, I guess.
Does Boch lead the league in manager’s tossed this year??
And why is dipshit Holland still on this team??
Just take him out to the desert and leave him there.
not much longer I’d imagine.
Did you guys see where Parra homered again yesterday for Nats? 2019 version of Actionless Jackson.
And Maybin’s helped the Yanks…
On this mound visit, I think Boch is gonna break one of Dutch’s fingers and tell him to get an x-ray.
I’m sure he would have Chuck, but he already got tossed on that phony hit batsmen play bunt. That was Curt Young out there, thinking the same thing though..
7th inning replay
Hard to watch Craw right now.
Greatest shortstop in SF Giant history? I think so, but this is rough.
Am I missing someone? Speier maybe?
Better than Aurilia, I guess…
Omar Vizquel? Jose Uribe? Besides Craw, I always rooted for Royce Clayton.
If nothing else can we see the new guy Altheer(sp?) get a hack in the 9th??
Is he on the 25 man already?
Altherr is one of the bench players in the MLB.com boxscore, so he must be there.
Here he is! Nice call AK!
Yeah here’s my boy Altherr!!
Yeah it’s now a choke collar on Williamson..
Or maybe not.
Well????? It’s ok kid Mac might have done the same..
Never heard of this pitcher, Sherfy.
Growing up in Woodland, we had a burger place called “Herfy’s.”
Not bad. My sister worked there and used to hook me up from time to time.
A Herfy 🍔 Burger? I like the sound of that dog!!
It was pretty damn good Kat. I’m doing some online research right now. Apparently they were a big chain in Washington state.
Who is this Solano guy?
Another Zman anal listics player Bozo..
Utility infielder. Came up when we blew out Solarte.
OK, he’s the last out. Brutal game.
https://gph.is/2RLGS8f
Spot on, Mac. Post of the day in my book.
This might be the Jim Beam talking, but I’m kind of enjoying this revolving door roster process.
Keep the line moving and lets see if we can’t get Keon Broxton in the fold.
Like I mentioned earlier nothing to lose Dog!
That’s my Jim Beam talking🥃🥃🥃
I would too if one of them would actually work out. Austin hit a bomb and then he’s out there in LF and botched a fly ball hit right at him in DRod last game. Vogt had monster opening and since then is 4-20 with 3 hits in one game vs. Reds.
Pillar had big op to help the team last night after Craw and instead popped out to RF with sacks loaded.
Broxton worth a look sure, and would add some speed.
Meanwhile good old Triple O Ehire hit bomb #3 for Twins last night.
7-0 ?
Sheezus.
Looks like it could be a broom weekend…
Craw had a bomb first of May amid reports he might be snapping out of typical April doldrums. Um, after last night 3-26 and 1 for last 15. Sure hope that Jalen Miller kid down in Richmond can help middle IF.
I’ve been saying Crawford’s out of shape for years. It’s probably catching up to him.
I would look at anybody in the system and try to sit Crawford twice a week.
He would probably benefit from the rest…
“might be the Jim Beam”, great line idk, every time I turn on Giants game I feel more like Lloyd Bridges character in Airplane.
Somebody on the radio here actually made a pretty good argument that your beloved Dubs are a better “team” without Durant…
With KD, a lot of iso. Without KD, no iso. Not necessarily better but different.
Already 11 back of LA in the loss column – like that matters.
We’re not even a pimple on the Roooster’s ass…
At some point the Bum trade talk in MLB is going to heat up immensely.
One game facing Giants pitching and Jones has bumped up to 0.6 WAR.
If he played for the Giants he wouldn’t get to face Giants pitching. That would be a bummer for him. 🙂
Those New York fans at Bethpage can certainly be brutal, golfer Zach Johnson was in rough so deep up to his knees on his second shot to the green that somehow he hacked it out and was just short of the green and one heckler yells out “Eat your Wheaties “you would of made it on!!
Loo you ever been over to that course?it looks like a poor mans municipal ( though nothing poor in golf) I hear these regular hackers get their at 4-5 am just to be in line for a tee time, crazy 😜 Yonkers..
I don’t pay much attention to golf any more. But, I saw that Brooks Koepka yesterday at the PGA tourney hit a wedge to 5 feet on the 473 yard par 4 16th, and sank the birdie. I read that three times. Unless he’s playing a Superball that nobody else is, that is insane…
Sounds like my game:) Koepka is a monster…I think he may be capable of getting to double digits in majors ..
I had my second ever shot for an eagle yday. Drilled my 2 hybrid about 200 yards and it rolled about 40 more to the green on one of our par 5s. I proceed to frickin three motherfucking putt. My course has championship level greens and looked like they just cut it for the weekend…playing way too fast for incompetent putting. I three putted the other par 5 but first putt was only for par:(
Three putted on a 200 yard par 3 after hitting the same hybrid about 180 and it rolled through the frickin green…
Who the hell decided to have the PGA in mid-May? In addition to MLB, it’s up against NBA, NHL playoffs and today the Preakness.
I like it MC Dog! It just got lost playing in August. Great for golf pools not to have to wait till the US Open for the next one.
Loo, lotta talk out here from local journalists on what you mentioned. Seems couple of them at least think Durant is new version of Bonds, great player/not such nice guy for an interview. Lot of complicated analytic stuff seems to point to GS being more effective without him. As long as dynamic duo are on, sure.
As Chuck said, team is different, since Durant and his 25+ shots are replaced by guys who shoot handful of times and get O boards. More ops and sets run to free up Curry and Thompson by the facilitators Iguodala Green and Livngston.
But no way I’ll accept fact that Warriors are better team with guys like Jerebko Bell or Cook on the floor in place of Durant. He is ultimate match up nightmare who can go get 40. He has the face up 3 (hi Lebron) the unstoppable midrange pull up and can get to rim and dunk over anyone.
The Dubs are no way better without KD, they are just different in game flow and we have seen them be good or great at times without him, but that has not been for a 7 games series with a team that poses matchup issues as the Bucks may be with Giannis.
I think without KD we are going to have our hands full with the Bucks. I am not sure we beat the Cavs two years ago without KD…
Stop fouling people and play defense. Jones had 3 fouls in 3 minutes, yikes.
Ah see Blazers taking advantage of Kerr’s chump LU Thompson and the scrubs, at both ends. They make Thompson work and give the ball up, and attack them off dribble at other end. There isn’t another scorer on the floor; Jackson talked about this before, make others beat you. And they haven’t and Thompson has 1 pt.in 4 minutes.
Belt hit that a long way. Would that have been a HR in SF?
Ha!
A first inning run!
Draymond looks like Magic from 40 yrs vs. Philly.
Come on Posey, man on 3rd nobody out.
Time out Portland as GS takes lead. wow nice comeback!
Wtg Buster.
Solid inning by the Giants hitters. Quality ABs all throughout the inning.
Posey looks lot better, couple hits last night too. That would sure help. Hank said Longo last year was 11-25 with 3 doubles 3 bombs in AZ. Godley sucks tho.
Mc Collum misses 2 FTs (Portland has missed 10 tonite) Quinn cook makes 2 hoops with scrub LU and puts GS up by 6 with starters on bench.
Bummie’s dealing as well.
Draymond is balls to the wall. He’s reverting to scoring somewhat by attacking the basket. Crazy energy.
Another bullshit call against the Giants.
Joe West has been umpiring for 42 years; that’s pretty ridiculous. He sucks.
100-89 with 4 minutes left. Second half score 47-23. Contributions off bench from Looney Jerebko McKinnie Cook, and Bell started. Group effort.
God, does Portland suck!
Wrap it up in 4 against Portland Suckablazer!!
R.I.P. City (stolen from Twitter).
Warriors defense stepped up big time second half!!
Heart of a champion never denied!!
wow Flav and his buddy must have had one helluva time.
And the evening’s young…
Heart of a Champion baby! Once again proving God is a Warriors fan. He had us play the Fail Blazers instead of the Nuggets allowing KD to rest!!!
Monster game by Draymond Green!!
Triple double 20 pts 13 rebounds 12 assists!
Warriors are 28-1 when Draymond has a triple-double…
Getting one of dem runs back. Nice triple by Craw.
And now 2. Attaway Mac.
Yep, got em both back.
Way to go Oaf!! That’s a nice job picking up Pillar who smoked his ball into and out..
A Johnny Cueto sighting on the Giants MLB page, great to see him throwing, personally I’ve missed the guy and I’m sure the team has too. Says he wants to be ready to pitch in September. Hmmm… not sure what the benefit of that would be, but I guess as long as he’s really ready…. I’m still amazed to watch pitchers throw so fast and so effortlessly. A 90-mph is considered slow. Last time I threw at a carnival radar pitch thingee, I was winging it as hard as I possibly could, and I’m not a super weak guy… never topped 65 mph.
I think they said he was already hitting 80 mph.
Bum looks like he’s running low on snot rockets, turn two Giants.,
Your right Bozo, their was no more snot rocket bullets left in the tank for Bumgarner.
